My take - he felt an obligation to get the club back on track after last season. Hence the extension. Then first half of the season the team have convinced him that he can leave knowing he’s not leaving a sinking ship. Hence taking this decision to leave at the end of this season and hand over a team on the up.

Admirable to me. I think trying to lay blame is a natural human response but I’ve not seen anything in his entire time to suggest there is acrimony with the owners.

In the end he is leaving like the complete Boss he is. On his own terms and with a team on the up.

Would have liked one more season to replace Salah and get a new CB in but you are right he has defs left us in a better position than if he left last year which at times it looked like he might do.

I had the same thoughts too, Faith. Ideally, he would have liked to leave at the end of last season but after our poor performance in the first half of the season, he felt like he had an obligation to correct it. Our form this season has been great so he felt like he could leave us as he would have liked - a team on the up.

Spot on, Faith. Klopp kept ALL his promises, IMO. He promised that he would win a title by the time his 4 years was up (got an extension and all the rest) . He challenged us to turn from doubters to believers and he helped us do that with his immense efforts on the pitch with these wonderful players.

Now he also promised that he would be coaching in to his 60's like Fergie did and well, he kept that promise to himself and his family. Klopp is a man of great passion, compassion and great integrity. As Robert Meuller III (former FBI Director) said once, "If you have integrity, that's all that matter. If you have NO integrity, that's all that matters. "

As for whether there is a rift btw Klopp and his owners, I don't believe that for one second. Can they disagree on things at times? That's plausible of course cos that's just human. But to say he and the owners don't see eye to eye in that way, is just some some projection from the FSG Outters. I would ask them to go listen to what Klopp said about the owners in the Daily Mail about how grateful he is that FSG supported him thru and thru BUT I know they won't cos it doesn't suit their FSG vs Klopp fantasies.

Really sad to see him go, but it's football, players/ managers come and go. I did question the timing at first, but now I think it makes sense. Klopp loves Liverpool, that's clear to all. He wants to leave the heir to his throne in a good place. I heard months ago that Alonso has practically agreed to be our next manager, and apparently it is written in his contract.

Jurgen Klopp is a great manager and more importantly an even better man and we are luck to have had him with us for so long. Some posters have alluded to ulterior motives for his departure but I believe it his integrity that has lead him to his decision to leave when he could still enjoy the accolades that someone driven by ego would find hard to resist.

By leaving now when he feels he will not have the energy to keep going at his current intensity allows us to recruit a successor who will inherit a team is excellent shape rather than on that has gone into decline. Although some of us posters find it difficult to imagine a life without LFC at the centre of it I wish him well and am sure there will always be a special place in his heart for the city, the club and us fans.

"Some posters have alluded to ulterior motives for his departure but I believe it his integrity that has lead him to his decision to leave. "

Spot on, KemlynKat. The man told us what he would do and what he would not do. He said he did not see himself coaching into his 60's from the off and well, he won't do that for now.

So to those who are posting ulterior motives and and projecting their feeling onto him as a coping mchanism or just lashing out, if you are upset that a man told you the truth based on his words and deeds then that's your problem and yours alone.

Klopp kept his word thru out his journey with us. Honor, dignity and integrity till the very end. Herr Klopp, I salute you! YNWA!

Perhaps Jorg Schmadtke joining transfer meeting calls from his villa in Ibiza got Klopp thinking yearning for his inevitable retirement to the Balearics.

@Faith - totally agree mate. The extension was to ‘put it right’. He’s happy that we are back on track and he’s leaving us in great shape and admitting that he needs a rest and can’t just keep doing what he’s doing without it damaging his mental and physical health.

All the very best for what lies down the road for Jurgen and his family in the future and a special thank you to Ulla for letting him lead us for so long and for the brilliant image of her standing on a wheelie bin waving at the team as they were on their lap of honour through the city after winning the CL.

The Klopp’s are a big part of our legend and will stay in fans hearts as long as there is a club.
