Can I just put this out there.

I feel that a lot of posters are just going of the eds comments regarding the signings of benteke and clyne ie. clyne can't defend and benteke is lazy.

Agree. Some people base their opinions wholly on what ed says. It's ok when once or twice but when you take every word from an eds mouth as gospel then you really got to make your opinion.
By the way u fully respect ed01s views but don't take it as bible and always find myself disagreeing with him

Have to agree lavers. I think clyne is better than anything we have now though it would be good to see wisdom get a chance at pushing for that spot. So he would make my first 11 initially, I think Benteke is still better than any of our current strikers bar sturridge. Firmino I think will make the first 11 too so at least on paper we have 3 better players than what we had last year. It's by no means perfect and not necessarily the the 3 spots I would have picked to strengthen but we are still stronger nonetheless.

Borrowed Adams specs then lavers?
I can't recall calling benteke lazy, more precisely he is vastly overpriced, will look lost in our team, does not make anywere near enough runs to make space for other players and will weaken rather than improve our attacking threat. He has ability no doubt but needs to significantly improve when playing for Liverpool. We will not be crossing at every chance. He will need to use his feet a lot more and bring other players into the game. We do not have players that suit playing to his strengths and he offers little to the players we have. Sturridge offers the team a hell of a lot more than benteke.

Clyne just needs to work on his delivery and on his day benteke is unplayable! We have the players already that can run off him when he holds the ball up! Both good signings, if the rumour of big ben are even true!

Well said mate. Clyne can defend quite well, he is just very offensive so gets caught up the pitch. That will be the case with all attacking full backs tgough so I suppose we better get used to that. He doesn't make many dedensive errors though.

Benteke only tends to be lazy in games where his team are losing which does worry me. I'd rather see some passion. Perhaps he just got fed up of losing at Villa though under Lambert. He didn't seem lazy under Sherwood when they were getting points every so often. Wouldn't have been my pick but the abuse needs to stop. He will be a Liverpool player so let's judge him after a season in the shirt.

Big Al did he mention your name at all?? The fact that you obviously think it could be directed at you says it all

my issue is not the individual players but who we play around them.
If persistent rumours are true then it looks as though we are aiming to offload Lucas.

If we play Clyne and Moreno they are both better at going forward, you have to play 2x holding-type midfield players to cover our centre-halves.( we haven't got 2)

* If we play one we will get ripped apart.
* If we play 2 then we have too many attacking midfield players on the books to fit into a starting 11.

It looks, at this stage anyhow (and IMO) we do not have a set style of play for next year and I believe, as other posters have stated elsewhere, we have not concentrated on rectifying our issues from last season (yet. )

another point, where is all the money coming from - surely the club will get approx. £40 million for Sterling once we pay QPR their cut?

benteke is not a bad player. bt i just don't think he is the right type of player for us. even messi can look a bad player in the wrong team.

I don't know if Benteke is lazy but Clyne is a better choice than Rodgers shoehorning wingers/Lallana into that right sided slot.

My worry is Benteke is that he isn't the most mobile and his workrate (pressing) isn't great and we never cross the ball but if he comes he is welcome to prove me wrong

Big Al

I can't remember who commented on clyne not being able to defend or benteke being lazy and to tell you the truth I couldn't give 2 hoots who said what. But if you read a lot of the posts they lean towards ED01s opinion of the 2. We all appreciate the news the eds share with us but when it comes to commenting on things it is there opinion that's all and that's what we're on here for each others opinions.

Sturridge does offer more to the team but I've always preferred two up top so you've best of both worlds with them 2. Someone has commented on Sturridge not being the same without saurez and he won't be because he looks around and no one is there.

Benteke is overpriced if that's what we're paying but put him into a better team and let's see if he steps up. If your playing with a team that can't be arsed then it tends to rub of.

Good post lavers
But on sturridge I believe he has the world at his feet if he's in a good side and fit. He has to be fit. He has his best years ahead of him hopefully if he gets past his injuries

Big Al

I'm with you on Sturridge I've always thought the lad is class, he left city to move to a bigger team (Chelsea).

Chelsea at the time had superstars all over the field so it was never going to be easy for him.

Chelsea played him out wide then I remember running upto Xmas one year Torres was misfiring and became injured so up stepped Sturridge who if I remember correctly was scoring most weeks playing as the main striker.

Back came Torres and out went Sturridge.

Sturridge fit is world class and having benteke will give him the room he needs which he was missing when he was playing last year for us.

Spot on Lavers. I honestly think some people believe that by whining on here they affect the clubs decision making. Everything is so personal for them. At the end of the day it's just football. Like most clubs we will get more signings wrong than right. But unless you have a crystal ball you can't tell the hits from the misses in advance (apart from Balotelli!)

I said Clyne couldn`t defend because when left one on one, he isn`t better than Wisdom in that area and that Benteke was lazy and i`m not the only one who said that. marc Wilmots, belgian manager said the same thing about benteke as well and I saw with my own eys how Benteke didn`t even show up at an FA Cup final as he strolled around the pitch w/o being arsed to even chase a ball, for heaven`s sake.

You're describing the life of a footballer though redohio. They all have bad games! If you only ever refer to the bad performances and never anything positive then you are just being selective in the evidence that you use to support your position. We know you think he'd be a crap signing but you haven't nailed what type of player he actually is nor why he couldn't play a similar role for us as Diego Costa does at Chelsea. The Villa fan who posted the pen pic earlier paints a completely different picture to you and he watches him week in, week out. And his fee is his fee. We want 50m for a guy who scores half as many goals. Why would they sell their best player for less than the clause in his contract after he finished the season as the most in-form forward in the league? What we need quite frankly is to forget all this "type" stuff and find someone who has a knack of sticking it in the onion bag.
