Is it true Liverpool are talking with West Ham for a £70m deal for Declan Rice? I've heard a few whispers about it, apparently Liverpool, Chelsea and Utd are all on talks for him?

{Ed002's Note - Declan Rice (DM/CM) There may remain interest from Manchester United but they signed Casemiro so their need is less now. The interest of Manchester City went with the signing of Kalvin Phillips. Chelsea lost out on their preferred target in the summer and the club is supportive of looking again to have Declan Rice return to Chelsea, something that I understand would be acceptable to the player. A wildcard would be Bayern Munich. West Ham will resist a move, but if the player were to push for it they would have to reconsider that position. The player has rejected offers to sign a new contract. Will be significantly expensive. I am not aware of any discussions for a cut price deal with Liverpool.}

Overrated for me. Clumsy on the ball. I'd take any of the USA midfield 3 over him. All quick, athletic, comfortable on the ball. Could prob get all three for the price of one Rice or Bellingham.

I always love posts that say someone is overrated. he's played under David Moyes. Hardly going to set the world alight. Was a big part of their Europa push last season. he's a really good player with bags of potential. Klopp would undoubtedly make him a better player especially with better players around him to learn from. Price would be silly though as he's English and an International and there's better more experienced players available for that money.

I’d have either of Caicedo or Yunus Musah over Declan Rice as they’re more athletic, they’re quicker and more mobile, they’re both capable of playing holding midfield or box to box, plus they don’t come with the “English Tax”.

I do rate Rice but I don’t think he is the sort of player we need. Fabs is our DM so I would prefer us to bring in a or through a younger player as cover and eventual successor. We need replacements for the aging Hendo and Thiago, more B2B players with high work ethics, good positional sense, vision and passing ability. Rice in my opinion does not have the latter of these two to the standard we need to operate as a number 8 in our team. Elliot will learn more about the defensive side of the game so I think he is one sorted and I still believe Jones can progress. The other I am not sure. Bellingham fits the bill but I am not sure about him. The last time we signed a young next best all rounder worldy midfielder playing in the German league it didn’t work out to well. I trust Klopp will find the right player though. The player I am not sure about is Carvalho. I think he’s great but too attack minded to play as an 8 in our system and not quick enough to play on the left side of our attack. I rate him really highly and hope he does well for us but I really don’t see where he fits in our system. Hopefully he can learn the defensive side of the game as per my thoughts on Elliot and take a place in our midfield.

Stay away from Bellingham so because Keita failed. We probably shudna bought Virg from the saints either because Lovren was brutal.

I'm surprised that the majority of replies seem to be going after Rice's athleticism. If anything one of his biggest assets are his pace and strength. Probably only De Bruyne carries the ball forward with more power in the whole Premier League. Kind of smacks of people not actually watching him play and just assuming he's a lump who sits in front of the defence.

For me the question marks over Rice are his end product in the final 3rd. For his size he should be a much bigger set piece threat, and his final pass in open play is very erratic. It would effectively mean he can only play the same role as Fabinho in our midfield. Even for England he needs someone like Bellingham alongside him to offer the penetration and attacking threat. When he plays with another defensive player such as Phillips the England team suffers offensively.

I'd take him at Liverpool though as a Fabinho replacement. He is a dominant presence in midfield who can keep possession even when pressed, and he screens the defence very well. Everything Fabinho used to be before he seems to have inexplicably lost his legs at 29 years of age.

Ed001 what’s your thoughts on Rice, I think over the past 2 seasons Rice’s game has come on leaps and bounds he looked like a Center back playing in midfield and looked uncomfortable there but now I think he looks a great player and would be a great long term replacement for Henderson to play on the right side of are midfield 2 with fabs behind him think it would give Trent the cover that Henderson did a few season ago as I think age as caught up with him and he does not have the same energy as the title wining year.

{Ed001's Note - I think he is better in the holding role personally, rather than as a replacement for Henderson, I would see him as a replacement/rotation with Fabinho if he were to sign for LFC. A very good player, homegrown, has drive and mobility to go with good reading of the game. I would love us to sign him.}

Declan Rice could be a Roy Keane type signing for us.

Baring Thiago, Rice is better than any of or midfielders. And Thiago only better at passing and vision.
I'd go as far to say if we were lucky to get him, as things stand with all the top clubs I'd make us favourites for the title.
Obviously if we got him in January no chance but the 23/ 24 season would be ours to loose.
