Not a rumour but just a suggestion. At the moment there is a lot of talk about needing homegrown talent, so have why not consider Connor Coady. I assume he would be quite expensive so I do not expect it to happen, but he is a Scouser who started life out at Liverpool, has developed in my opinion in to a top class centre back. He is very vocal, which I think is needed with Matip and Gomez as our other options.

Just a suggestion but wondered if other people agreed?

klucas87

{Ed002's Note - Coady is not just home grown but he is also "club developed" by Liverpool which is what is giving the club issues right now and going forward. I would howver doubt that the player would be interested in returning to Liverpool to effectively become cover when his career is going very well and he is a starter at Wolves.}

1.) 20 Oct 2020 12:00:04
Would he be cover? He is arguably better than Gomez so could start.

{Ed002's Note - He is not one of the CBs that Liverpool has shown any interest in.}

2.) 20 Oct 2020 12:20:45
He was gated out by LFC why would he leave a well ran club where he’s captain loved and adored?
He’s a scouser so bring him back?
He built back up his career well done to him leave him be!

3.) 20 Oct 2020 12:27:01
Merely a suggestion of someone who would solve a lot of issues for us and I think Is a very good cb.

4.) 20 Oct 2020 12:31:07
No, not for me.
He’s a decent player as a ‘sweeper’ type in a back 3 but not for our system with a high (ish) line of defence. He’s not got the pace for that.

5.) 20 Oct 2020 16:00:26
Agree with you on that, Juicer. I know a lot of Wolves supporters who rate Coady but say he lacks pace.

23 Apr 2013 11:49:35
I understand that for the right price Jackson Martinez could be available in the summer. I really like what I have seen from this guy and think would offer something different for LFC attacking line. Eds what do you think the chances are of Liverpool taking a look? {Ed001's Note - we have been watching Porto (also keeping a close eye on their youth system too), hence the initial rumours. I have no idea at all who we are watching though, at senior level. At youth level, it is simply keeping an eye on their young players to see who is developing etc, rather than a specific target.}

Why is hyppia never mentioned as one of the Liverpool greats? For me he's up there with the best defenders I have ever seen put on a Liverpool shirt.

1.) 10 Dec 2021 12:32:29
I was actually trying to add him to yesterday's thread about transfers that broke your heart but my phone died as I was typing. His last game was so emotional and I don't know if people are winding me up but we were attending an end of season party after it round by the old grafton but stupidly went for a pint before it. Me and the lads I was with started getting messages to get to the venue coz the big fella has turned up coz the organisers were presenting him with an award. Sadly he was long gone by time we arrived.

2.) 10 Dec 2021 17:08:27
Good player but not a great. He wasn't quick or mobile enough to be a great. I remember Henry outpacing him and Henchoz once; and one was covering behind the other!
Hansen and Lawrenson, on the other hand, should be regarded as greats.
The likes of Hyppia and Carragher are not, for me.

{Ed025's Note - he was good rigsby but not a great, i agree with you mate and carragher is well below him..

3.) 11 Dec 2021 00:04:08
Scored an absolute belter of vital importance against Juventus in 2005.

Only surpassed by Luis Garcia’s audacious strike!

I believe Buffon was in goal that day, my son was 2 day’s old and is now almost 6 feet tall. Bloody hell I feel old now lol.

4.) 11 Dec 2021 02:12:27
I was working in Holland when we signed him from Willem II and he was a legend to the Dutch. The Dutch have a very healthy ‘disrespect’ for their near neighbours from Germany. Not long before he signed for us he had played an absolute blinder for Finland against the Germans and overnight became a hero in Holland.

I have to say have always rated him .

5.) 11 Dec 2021 10:31:31
Certainly a great player for me. Was it circa £2.8 million for him for how many seasons and rarely injured? Maybe not a Hanson or VVD but a great player and the best piece of transfer dealings ever, up there with Robbo.

Hi

Question for the Ed's.

When FSG took over Liverpool, a big deal was made about their vision for the future. One of the main points was the ideal of developing youth through the academy and making them ready for the Liverpool 1st team.

My question is, does this philosophy still stand, and if so which of the managers being linked with the vacant position have the best track record of doing this? If none of the managers being linked are particularly astute at developing youth are there any managers available who would fit that criteria?

klucas87

{Ed002's Note - I am not so sure that the Academy was too much of a deal. In reality all clubs look to buy younger players and would like to develop them. But there is always a need to have a mix of youth and experience. Klopp has certainly done well in Germany with making the most of younger players.}

26 Aug 2015 12:21:34
He Ed's.

Quick question, but do you know if everything is going according to plan with Sturridges return from injury?

Can we still expect to see him returning to the first team around the end of October?

klucas87

{Ed002's Note - The club has not said anything further.}

1.) 26 Aug 2015 15:19:37
Most reports (e.g. the the physio room injury table) talk about the game against united in two and half weeks.

Given peoples inability to take anything written on here as someones opinion without it being spelled out, i state that everything below is "Only my opinion"

So to start with I must say I am now starting to get excited about the season ahead of us. I did come in to the new season with a thin veil of negativity about the manager and team. However 3 games in and that veil is slowly being lifted. We have a new defensive resilience that can only improve the more that Lucas is played, and Benteke looks like he may actually offer more than just a big lump up front, that I initially thought he would be.

A couple of opinions about last nights performance however:

1 - We lack width. With both of Gomez and Clyne being instructed to provide a lot more defensively than in previous seasons, Coutinho and Firmino are being heavily relied on to provide the width. Both players prefer to cut inside which makes the whole team played a lot narrower. Benteke thrives off balls in to the box from wide positions, hence our best chance last night coming from a great ball in to the box from Firmino out on the left. MORE WIDTH=MORE GOALS.

2- Youth need to be managed carefully. Joe Gomez was a stand out performer and is in the team on merit. However at some point his form will dip and when he gets removed from the team for a short period this will be the best decision. No calling for Brendans head. Ibe is a perfect example. He has not been playing well, making bad decisions so was dropped to the bench and given a 30 minute cameo (which was poor). Rossiter also got a good run out. He obviously needs time so let's give it to him.

3- Optimism. I am now optimistic. I believe we can go in to every match and get a result. All fans should be optimistic. I believe al the pessimists are only that way because it makes bad results easier to swallow. Stop being negative and let's all unite under the liver bird.

Think Lucas might be going mate.

2.) 25 Aug 2015 09:34:29
I agree with your first point. We lack Genuine pace on the flanks, Players like Walcott/Depay/Sanchez for examples.
Its high time for BR to swallow his eggo and bring back Markovic and use Moreno if its an option.

I have said this earlier but made to shut as Posters wanted Lallana and all ACM to play on the flanks.

3.) 25 Aug 2015 09:50:20
I agree that our best talent is in the AM position, although I do not include lallana in that category as he is rubbish IMO. However that talent will get us through matches with lesser teams, but against the bigger clubs you need to make the pitch as big as possible to create the space for Benteke/Sturridge. Look at Man City this season. With Navas and Sterling staying out wide, there are even larger pockets of space for Silva (best player in the premier league) to play in, which allows him to play cute balls in to Aguero/Bony/Toure. I honestly believe that COutinho can be as good as Silva in time and if we play with width.

4.) 25 Aug 2015 09:53:15
Lallana u=isn't bad on the flanks. You were told to drop the pace is everything as a winger. As you had nothing to back up such a claim.what exactly have walcott and depay achieved so far in the prem on the flanks.
Sanchez got most his goals an assists last year playing centrally. but he's a good winger that doesn't rely on pace,he relies on his trickery and movement.

5.) 25 Aug 2015 10:00:57
Bobatron, I have not mentioned pace once, just players whose natural instinct is to stay wide, and make the pitch bigger. Of course all wingers cut in from time to time when the opportunity presents itself, but when all a wide player does is cut in, it allows the defence to stay more compact and reduces the space in the centre of the pitch for Coutinho/Sturridge/Benteke to play in

6.) 25 Aug 2015 10:32:52
lucas I was talking to harry aka European Glory

7.) 25 Aug 2015 10:34:44
I am not sure how could you not ask for pace, when you play a counter attacking free fast football.
Y isn't Oscar preferd on the flanks and Pedro/Willian/Cuardado makes it

8.) 25 Aug 2015 10:37:28
All good points klucas87 and i appreciate your optimism. You just forgot to mention the one overwhelming negative aspect of our team - we still have BR as our manager. So long as we do, we will never go as far as we could with the players we have. The man as an absolute muppet.

9.) 25 Aug 2015 10:42:43
Lallana is not rubbish!! If you think he is then go to specsavers! LOL

10.) 25 Aug 2015 11:07:35
klucas87 i think bobatrons post is meant for EG, and i agree with him. i still don't see pace as the best attribute of a winger.

11.) 25 Aug 2015 11:33:19
EG exactly how much have those boys done on the flanks with their pace,the likes of kuyt,beckham,Milner etc can't do.I would take any of these 3 ahead of Cuardrado,Pedro and Willian personally none of whom have an end product on their cross.Playing wide simply requires discipline to stay wide,cross overlap and dummy run,you do all these things right you create space and time. Simply being able to run 100metre in 12 seconds won't turn you into a good crosser or give you the ability to get back if you lack a work ethic.

Are you telling me Chelsea play counter attacking football now?

12.) 25 Aug 2015 11:46:25
Apologies Bobatron, I thought you meant the comments for me.

As for Malak, I hope the LOL at the end of the statement implies a large dose of sarcasm, because lallana is very very average.

Finally for Redtastic, I suggest you go and set up a Brendan Rodgers hate campaign site, because I am frankly sick of all the haters. Yes there are better managers out there, but there are worse. He is already showing signs of changing his approach this season, and anyone who is willing to learn from there mistakes/take guidance from others such as the backroom staff, has my full support. Also I am a Liverpool fan so want to believe he can bring success.

13.) 25 Aug 2015 11:57:12
Kaizer

If pace isn't the best attribute, then what's Jordan IBE? What's he doing on the flanks?

Ed01, Y don't you clear up the primary attributes of a winger?

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on how the team is set out to play. No point having pace if the winger has no space to run into.}

14.) 25 Aug 2015 12:23:34
The Lol was for your inability to see that Lallana is far from an average player that is being used completly wrong, you just don't undrstand football i guess, just like BR ;)

Hi Ed's

I have been watching the U21 championship and there have been some real standout performers already. The Czech Republic hattrick hero was very impressive, but also Emre Can.

Being played in his preferred Midfield role, he has been the focal point of everything Germany have done.

My question is, will Brendan Rodgers and/or any scouts be there watching our own players to assess their development? If the answer is yes does Can's performances make it more likely he will be given his chance in Liverpools MF next season?

Cheers

{Ed001's Note - Liverpool always have scouts monitoring tournaments like this and videos of the games our players appear in will be available to the coaching staff to look at.}

1.) 22 Jun 2015 21:22:32
Roberto Martinez is always at the Everton academy home matches. Never seen The One with the Huge Nose at any of our Academy games

2.) 22 Jun 2015 21:50:15
More abuse for the manager of the team you support - why do you not like his nose?? I so do not like noseists, this should be a hate crime!!

3.) 22 Jun 2015 22:42:33
Why on earth do you expect Thommo to be at our academy games???

I’m not saying it’s Salahs replacement, but I think we already have our next “talisman” and that is Dominik Szobozlai.

I think it’s a blessing we didn’t get Bellingham as this guy is fast becoming my favourite player and future Liverpool legend.

Szob definitely looks the real deal. I also think Nunez looked menacing whilst on the pitch. He seems to have worked on his finishing, snatching much less and getting a cleaner contact.

I’d rather him on the pitch than Gakpo, who for me looks great and silky smooth but offers very little. Doesn’t seem to have an eye for a pass, doesn’t press particularly well, just good first touch then simple pass off.

Each to their own. I grew up with impairments and my youngest son is Autistic so I am not oblivious to what goes on. I just think getting offended every time someone says the wrong word or is derogatory is tiring. I always found it best to just rise above and ignore. Not everyone’s approach but works for me.
