If we are to lose Coutinho, Eds do you think it’s would be a good shout to ask for Umtiti as part of the deal and if so do you think Barcelona would sell him?

{Ed002's Note - (a) No and (b) Yes if they get the replacement they want - but he won't be moving to Liverpool.}

1.) 03 Jan 2018 19:49:00
I just want to say Phil Countinho is a fantastic player, saved our season few years ago when we signed him in JAN window i think.

Nothing wrong with a player wanting to move, I've done that in my working career always striving for a better job and better pay and conditions. and a footballers career doesn't span as much - nothing wrong with his desire.

Thanks for your service Phil if you go.

2.) 03 Jan 2018 23:00:56
But there's ways of doing it.

3.) 04 Jan 2018 00:33:40
I just hope we do a deal for next summer so Phil can put in a good run with us for top 4 and CL without the stress of worrying about his dream move knowing it's done. It's not in him to dog the second half of the season. I think it would be a great farewell for him with supporters and would cement his status with the club. I think if he goes in January some will hold it against him.

4.) 04 Jan 2018 12:31:10
Stay to summer, deep run in Champions League then take the big move. Both sets of fans will respect you.

24 Dec 2017 09:49:10
A year ago there were rumours that Liverpool were interested in Sessegnon (spelling? ) but Fulham were not interested to sell. Now I’m reading Spurs and Man U are battling it out for him. Eds. Have Liverpool dropped interest in him?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool moved for someone else.}

1.) 24 Dec 2017 10:10:48
Just as well. The poor lad would have been ruined in our team this season.

{Ed025's Note - lighten up ron...its christmas mate!!!..

2.) 24 Dec 2017 10:25:16
😄 it’s not just sour grapes though ed, it’s true! Ed002 called it in the summer.
If he had come to our club 1) he wouldn’t have got much of a chance because Klopp favours Moreno 2) when he does play it’s usually 6 against 4 (and a “keeper”) and 3) the other defenders are oblivious to the basic principles of defending.
He made a smart choice IMO.

3.) 24 Dec 2017 13:35:42
I am as frustrated as everyone else by our defensive frailties but Klopp is still the right man to lead us and our team plays some of the best football in the league

It will all come good and we will get a proper keeper

And for Ron we will field a strong side against Everton in the cup and we will batter the living daylights out of them

Merry. Christmas to one and all.

01 May 2017 18:38:21
Just got a wave from Jurgen Klopp getting off the coach. It's a positive sign we're going to win well tonight.

1.) 01 May 2017 22:51:30
2 out of 3 ain't bad g1dgo "win and tonight"

03 Oct 2014 13:09:11

Any truth to the Sterling won't sign a new contract being reported or is it simply paper talk?

He has been the only positive I can take from our season so far. I do agree to some of the notes below that he has put too much pressure on himself to save the team. He needs to learn that he cannot fix everything by himself and play the simple ball sometimes so that the team can fix the problems.

That's the only coaching I give to my son so I'm out of advice now.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what the press are saying but my understanding is that Real Madrid are still interested in him and is agent may well be told soon what sort of package and conditions they will be offering. Liverpool have made an offer and I would think they would want time to consider what is his best option going forward. I really don't see any big deal at this time.}

If Klopp is only looking for the ‘right player’ does that mean no left footed players are allowed?

1.) 29 Aug 2022 14:48:57
Boom boom, g1dgo.

Arsenal seemed to have a crazy number of left footers on their books - Tierney, Zinchenko, Xhaka, Odegaard, Viera, Saka, Tavares, Pepe off the top of my head.

On a serious note though, we probably are a couple of left footed players short in the squad (CB and CM) .

Of the various transfer links, I think Luka Sucic is left footed.

2.) 29 Aug 2022 16:06:13
Ye can take Salt and "Pepe" away he played on loan for Nice last night.

3.) 29 Aug 2022 20:16:26
Who do we have? Off the top of my head Robbo, Tsimikas, Salah, Elliot. Can’t think of anyone else?

29 May 2022 10:29:17
The higher the expectation the harder the fall if not met. Remember those days when we used to hold back our expectations so as to avoid the pain of not meeting them?

Today let’s not be angry nor sad. Try and reflect. However if it means not kicking the dog or the missus then by all means rant away if it helps.

I declare today as ‘get rid of the nonsense thoughts’ day and ask that the Ed’s give us an amnesty from their cutting retorts!

1.) 29 May 2022 11:47:01
It was such a rollercoaster of a season. Sublime highs and devastating lows like last night and last Sunday, but still wrapped in a sense of incredible pride, awe and hope of even better times to come.
There are some players I’d personally like to see moved on. Not owing to anything that happened over the last week but because they simply won’t keep us at the level we’re at or improve upon it. Namely Jota and Keita.
If Salah and Mané move on then best of luck to them and thanks for the wonderful memories.
I’d like to see a more defensive minded right back signed and Trent pushed up into midfield. He’s a gifted player who would flourish there, and a central midfielder bought. Hendo has been superb in every aspect and such a leader on the pitch but we can’t expect him to play the full 90 minutes in every game. Time catches up on all of us sadly.
It’ll hurt for while but what a ride this year has been.

2.) 29 May 2022 12:40:39
Why would we push one of the best attacking right backs in World football into midfield? Trent is integral to the way we play in the position he plays.
We understand we will be looking for a back up to Trent, so I'm happy with that. If Mane does go, like we all suspect, I would like to see us go for a target man to offer us something we don't have currently. Also, I would like to see us go for a box to box midfielder, as I don't have faith in Keita. A dream would be Declan Rice, but that won't happen.
An absolute fantastic season where we just came up short in the big 2 competitions. I look forward to a few months break where my heart rate can return to normal!

15 May 2022 19:38:34
Anyone else notice the backspin on Mounts penalty save? Thank goodness Alisson has watched the YouTube videos where the goalie celebrates too early!

1.) 15 May 2022 21:24:12
Yes I did and was mightily relieved he was on the ball, literally! Imagine if they had scored and we lost because of a spinning ball.

{Ed0666's Note - imagine the memes??? Thank Christ he watched it

2.) 15 May 2022 21:40:11
Talking of penalty’s I though Richarlison was lucky that he didn’t have to retake his peno as your not allowed to stop and start your run up!

3.) 15 May 2022 22:34:14
OP, you won’t believe this but there was a Chelsea fan on YouTube who made a comment in the comment section complaining that Ali’s save should not have stood due to the very thing you pointed out. This is the level of salt rival fans are having to swallow due to our success. It’s mental.

4.) 16 May 2022 04:53:37
Seen that Oli. Something about it being classed as a "double save" as the rules apparently state you can only touch the ball once.

5.) 16 May 2022 07:05:16
Bless! Will give them a new thing to moan about since Garcia’s was it wasn’t it over the line. Can’t see anything in law 14 referring to this.

6.) 16 May 2022 11:41:59
Whats a meme?

7.) 16 May 2022 13:07:46
Ahh midfeilder, plays for Bayern.

8.) 16 May 2022 13:31:43
Mememes sister.

9.) 16 May 2022 16:03:18
It's all meme me with you, Wiltshire.

11 May 2022 07:37:52
The annoying thing about the Chelsea game being this weekend rather than the final domestic fixture is I don’t get to say “every game from here on is a cup final” and for once be factual

Whatever happens from this point the team have been remarkable this season. Certainly several levels of success higher than I could have imagined at the beginning of the season.

1.) 11 May 2022 08:21:19
If the team end up losing two finals from here on then It’s a massive failure and shame. Let’s not butter polish it. I don’t know what people mean by enjoy the ride and then the same people say it’s all about 3 points lol.

2.) 11 May 2022 09:13:30
TT, you raise a good point actually. I would be interested to know who on here would class the season a 'failure' if we only end up with the league cup. What determines a successful season for us at this point?

3.) 11 May 2022 09:29:56
We’ve lost 3 times all season, with only 4 games to play.
I’m of the opinion that should the worst happen and we don’t win the finals, losing 5 games in a season of over 60 games has to be a good season.

4.) 11 May 2022 09:55:28
Harry in 19/ 20, your favorite team won ONLY the League Cup while bottling it vs Lyon in the CL, got dumped out of the FA Cup and got pummeled by LFC to win the league. Was that a successful season for them?

5.) 11 May 2022 09:56:55
For me, if we only end up with Carabao then it’s a failure despite us being impressive. I think the champions league makes it a huge success.

6.) 11 May 2022 10:02:26
Stuie I think it could be as simple as juggling the words around mate.

If we don’t win anything else from here on then it’s a case of we’ve had a very good season battling on all fronts and trying to achieve our goals but we ultimately failed to achieve 3 of the goals of winning the League, CL and FA cup.

7.) 11 May 2022 10:36:30

It depends. For the ambitious set of fans it’s a failure and the rest would find an excuse if the team lose the finals. Success is and would always be measured by trophies. Anything else and you are pretending.

8.) 11 May 2022 10:38:43

Liverpool did not win a single PL trophy for 30 years. What do you call this period? Impressive successful period without trophies lol. Success is measured by trophies. Stop daydreaming.

9.) 11 May 2022 11:19:25
For me I expect that we compete for trophies year in year out. we're doing that now. This whole successful / failure of a season narrative is a bit shallow to me. I mean if we end up with only Carabao CUp some will class that a failure for sure. but what does that mean? Sack Klopp? Drop Hendo? what is it? Win or lose, we're loading up again to come right back and put ourselves in with a shout and that's the least I ask for.

10.) 11 May 2022 11:21:49
If we win EPL or the Champions League it’s a brilliant season.

If we win FA Cup and Carabao cup it’s very good but tinged with disappointment.

Bottom line is if we get to a final we have to win that final or it’s a let down.

If we win both FA Cup and Champions League then it’s great.

Big parade for EPL or Champions League wins.

Satisfied smiles for FA Cup and Carabao Cup wins

If we do the lot then it would just be bonkers.

11.) 11 May 2022 11:54:42
Interesting set of responses and judging by the above, I think most people feel the League Cup by itself isn't that big an achievement. It is a difficult one for me. I think if City weren't the team they currently are, just winning the League Cup would be a failure to me, but the fact that we have kept pace with them this season has to be applauded to some degree. I will be so disappointed if we don't win the FA Cup and CL but at the same time be elated with the progress the club has made on and off the field in the last few years.

12.) 11 May 2022 12:01:19
Harry, and you stop deflecting. City didn't win as much as an argument for 30 years (NO TROPIES) did not win the league for 40 years till they won the lottery with the Sheikhs. Was that successful for them too? See, I can do the same thing. Also, we won 15 major trophies during that 30 year spell (EVERY single trophy on earth) of not winning the league. Let me know what City's record was during that time. Oh, please see in above paragraph.

In the end, stop deflecting cos nobody asked you about what happened 30 years ago. I asked you a simple question via a proper comparison between this season and the 19/ 20 season. Let me know when you are ready to answer the question.

13.) 11 May 2022 12:52:48
If we end up with the league Cup alone there won't be thousands upon thousands lining the streets of Liverpool for a parade. League Cup and CL gets the open bus treatment. League Cup and fa Cup can get that treatment aswell I guess.

14.) 11 May 2022 12:56:12
So when city win the league as expected now this season. is it a bad season for them? Afterall they are expected to win the league and a cup. We weren't even expected to challenge by all the pundits. But challenge we have, for every god damn thing.

15.) 11 May 2022 13:11:20
Oli, why do you even bother.

16.) 11 May 2022 13:55:33
My god Harry, I find your posts so repetitive it’s now tedious. Why on earth did you ever switch back from City to Liverpool. I for one wish you had stayed there.

For me, a measure of success is how well you’ve performed as a team against expectation. At the beginning of the season, given the AFCON I was hoping for a top 4 finish and a decent run in the champions league …. we have far exceeded that and I’ve loved every minute of it, regardless of what happens from now until the end of the season. I’m immensely proud of the team and how far we’ve come.

We have come a hell of a long way from the dark days of Hicks and Gillette under FSG. We have a brilliant manager, the best squad in my living memory, a bigger stadium, new training facilities, doing far better with commercial revenues and as a club overall … for me, that is a true measure of success.

If you want to measure success purely on trophies won, then you’ll be far better supporting City again where they will continue to cheat FFP and buy their ‘success’.

17.) 11 May 2022 16:08:51
Harry Sterling doesn't support Liverpool, he is just here for the attention!

18.) 11 May 2022 17:07:02
Just a point then Harry. Could you not then regard Pep’s time at City as a failure?

His task was to win the champions league. Hoover up all the other competitions yes but conquering Europe was the goal. That’s the trophy they wanted and so far he’s failed. Despite spending over 1 billion in trying.

So in that context do the trophies we has won mean it’s a success? Given with the squad he has had and the money he has spent he frankly should win the league every season.

Success is measured by what your goals are. Those goals aren’t always necessary trophies or the number obtained. They also change throughout the year. Staying in the league could be a success. Europa League Qualification could be a success.

For instance last year Liverpool qualifying for the champions league was a massive success given the season they had.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree with most of your musings wassa but is success really measured by your goals? I could say I’m gonna earn 5 million pounds this year and by a Ferrari if I don’t achieve that will I be a failure?

19.) 11 May 2022 18:38:33
How did Harry Scouser transition to Harry Sterling? 😲.

20.) 11 May 2022 18:39:22
What are the goals at LFC if not trophies Wassa? Pep has been a massive failure in terms of CL trophies at city. This has been running on this page ever since they were knocked out by Real. What’s next?

21.) 11 May 2022 18:58:58
And who's been making sure the subject keeps running on this page, with consistently repetitive, self-serving posts?

22.) 11 May 2022 18:25:01
The answer is Yes, Ed0666. I, and I think most people should, measure success in terms of the goals you have set for yourself. Of course there are many caveats and contextual points, but in general that's how I think it should be. States of mind like success, joy and happiness are all very relative so if you are going to measure them then you have to set a measuring standard. Didn't get the 5million and the ferrari, then you're a failure. Decided you only want good health and long life, then you've had success thus far.

(It feels so creepy talking about non-football issues over here) .

{Ed0666's Note - in everyday life why do we need to measure success or set goals? I understand it to an extent in the workplace but meritocracy’s are not all bonhomie and roses

23.) 12 May 2022 12:37:47
How many times have Man City won the League? How many times have Liverpool won the League?

How many times have Man City won the European Cup / CL? How many times have Liverpool won the European Cup / CL .

How many times have Man City won the World Club Championship? How many times have Liverpool won the World Club Championship?

How many times have Man City won the FA Cup? How many times have Liverpool won the FA Cup?

How many times have Man City won the League Cup? How many times have Liverpool won the League Cup?

Given your preoccupation with winning cups Transition_Time who would you say has won the most trophies?

24.) 11 May 2022 19:42:10
Goals are purpose. We all need purpose in this existence, Ed.

{Ed0666's Note - that’s subjective mate

04 May 2022 12:59:50
Remember back in 2012 when we were talking about the other Luis that if only he could improve his finishing he would be world class? Well 10 years later I’m saying the same thing. The difference is that Diaz has been a tad unlucky. Defender and attackers blocking his shots at the latest moment

I called out Diaz when we signed him due to my Colombian connection and knowledge about him already. However even I am surprised how well he has adapted to English football and how quickly.

Im saying it now. He will be winning all awards next year including balón d’or. His ceiling is so much higher than we’ve seen so far and it’s not far away.

{Ed0666's Note - agreed mate

1.) 04 May 2022 14:15:02
Totally agreed mate.

2.) 04 May 2022 15:05:37
I think Suarez was world class; without a doubt. And his finishing wasn't bad either. He was no Ian Rush but he was more of a number seven and a top class one.
After all he did to us, I still can't deny that he was a superb player for us.
Diaz is very exciting, too. I love his attitude as well as obvious ability. I can't understand how he wasn't much more in demand.

3.) 04 May 2022 15:27:32
Rigsby, I think he was talking about Suarez in the first season. Mesmerizing footballer, but inconsistent as a finisher.
With Diaz, I have the same feeling. His finishing is just not elite right now. But my God, everything else is. And he looks a lovely guy too.
On a side note, I started watching the Reds only since 2011 onwards, but how good was Sturridge's finishing. If only he could stay fit, he would have finished as an absolute legend of the club.

4.) 04 May 2022 15:34:37
Rigsby, I disagree. Suarez had world class talent BUT his finishing was pretty poor in his first 18 months under King Kenny. It was Rodgers (credit to him on this one) that turned Suarez into an absolute beast in front of goal starting from the 12/ 13 season where BR created a system to get the very out of him w: Gerrard's passing ability, Studge next to him, Sterling on the right and a young, talented PipCo. Suarez got 20 plus goals in all comps. since Torres that season, as well.

As for Dias, the guy is only going to get better so let's all jut relax and let the guy develop at his own pace. Klopp said a while ago that they are letting Dias play the exact way he played his whole time at Porto so as to let his transition into the team would go well hence, he has not even been fully assimilatad into the Klopp way of playing. When that happens, look out.

5.) 04 May 2022 18:14:14
In fairness to Suarez, he was given the "foil" role next to Carroll in his first 18 months under Kenny. In hindsight, the whole "big man, little man" was not the best way to get the most out of him and was a disservice to his skillset. It wasn't until we started playing a more free-flowing style of football under Rodgers that we started to play to Suarez's strengths.

6.) 04 May 2022 18:15:32
Diaz lost the ball yesterday and the determination he showed to immediately win it back was Robertson-esqe.

Him and Konate going to be immense next season.

Side not on Jota, his quality and impact cannot be understated he has done well this season and I believe will only get better.

7.) 04 May 2022 18:42:53
Oli, so it was the system and playing with better players that allowed Suarez to start scoring?
I would agree. If he wasn't getting chances, he wouldn't be scoring regardless of his finishing.
Maybe my memory is letting me down but I remember Suarez as being a world class forward. I can see Diaz going the same way but I don't think finishing will be his forte and Suarez was the same.

8.) 04 May 2022 19:50:07
If Diaz reaches Suarez quality then I would be one happy man.

9.) 04 May 2022 21:44:38
Absolutely Irish, but without the biting and racism.

10.) 04 May 2022 21:58:31
Naturally Kimuraking 👌.

I am hoping Liverpool change their mind. I suspect they will due to the response they have received. We are in unprecedented and uncertain times. We are ALL making on the spot decisions and changing our mind regularly. Society has been given the opportunity to be more community minded. Let’s take advantage. That includes football fans. Let’s also get the rid of the hate which I think football justifies as banter. We have an opportunity.

Peace out.

Ed. I don’t agree with the furlough. You’re right that this is govt money that should be reserved for struggling companies. I’m just saying that I am going to judge the behaviour of the club at the end of crisis not during.

{Ed025's Note - companies like LFC should be setting the standards though g1, they are letting the employees down as well as the city mate, its very hard to justify..

I’m probably in the minority here but the use of words like disgraceful and shameful are in my opinion overboard. I wold have thought Liverpool are topping up the part that the govt won’t cover but not disclosing this to the press.

This is a global crisis. Why are football clubs immune? The majority of football clubs are fragile at best.

Let’s save the finger pointing for a point where normality resumes and we judge (if we must) on behaviour over a period of time.

It is a very stressful time for everyone. Let’s try and be kind, helpful and community minded. The main thing for me is that the staff are receiving their wages. End of.

{Ed025's Note - lets get this right g1, liverpool are a very rich and stable club and for them to use government money to prop up wages is indeed disgraceful, that payment is for firms who cannot afford to subsidise wages not a company who pay millons to players and top staff especially at this time mate, why not cut the playing staff wages to afford the lower paid staff their income?, you can make as many excuses as you want but i think we all know its wrong my friend..

Was thinking the same thing. If it were a slugfest last game of season City would always win by more goals. Paradoxically we have more chance of City drawing than us winning by more goals last game of season.

That makes sense in my head!

I’ve been saying this for the few months. Jota will help Liverpool win 1-0 with an important goal but we would have won 3-0 if he wasn’t playing. I love the guy for what he has done this season but I would cash in and reinforce / reinvest money into midfield.
