Hi Eds, I've read that we've agreed a deal to sign Gleison Bremer from Torino. Is there anything in it. I'm thinking more importantly we need a midfielder and an attacking player but he's a young defender so maybe there's something in it.

Wuger12

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any deal being agreed with Torino.}

1.) 10 Nov 2021 17:54:54
Would doubt we’d be looking to add another defender given the summer investment and Gomez and Van Dijk returning.

Seems to be just lazy journalism recycled from 12 months ago.

{Ed0666's Note - we have 3 centre backs that never play now why would we recruit another one?

2.) 10 Nov 2021 19:07:34
£6.8m defender, not sure it's a first team defender maybe just for under 23.

3.) 10 Nov 2021 20:16:47
Why would a 24 year old with almost 70 Serie A appearances leave Torino to play for Liverpool under 23?

4.) 10 Nov 2021 23:00:18
Matip was a free transfer and Robbo was £8m. They must have been for the reserves ;)

5.) 11 Nov 2021 00:27:35
Wuger Andy Robertson mate don't judge a price of a signing for where they will fit in.

6.) 11 Nov 2021 07:43:53
This is an old link that’s been recycled. There’s no way we’re spending whatever money we do have on another centre back, given that we have VVD, Matip, Gomez, Konate and Phillips in the squad. It would make no sense unless one of those was being sold.

7.) 11 Nov 2021 13:18:34
Gomez to Villa or Newcastle in January.

8.) 11 Nov 2021 21:18:26
We were linked to this player last Jan. Recycled rubbish, IMO.

Hi, I've had a look, seems like a new name, do we hold an interest in Noa Lang. I know nothing about him btw.

Wuger12

{Ed002's Note - Noa Lang (LW) was purchased for a €6.5M option from Ajax by Brugge in the summer and was due to be sold on at auction. Brugge say there were no offers but Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Leeds have sent scouts to watch him each has declared an interest. The player comes with serious baggage which is why Milan seem to have stepped away. I am not aware of any approach by Liverpool but they may well have had scouts watch him as he is doing well. Brugge will look for perhaps €30M in January or next summer.}

1.) 19 Oct 2021 00:04:20
A quick look on wikipedia shows that Noa Lang got into trouble for signing an anti-semitic song with fans. It was investigated and he refused to apologize. In the link to the article says that "He would rather die than be a ____". That is some serious baggage.

2.) 19 Oct 2021 06:19:01
I would be more concerned with how dumb a kid like this is.
He may be able to score a header from outside the box or destroy Norwich on a regular basis but he is just not worth it if he does not possess minimal level of brain cells.

3.) 19 Oct 2021 10:01:22
Guy sounds like a complete idiot - doesn’t matter how talented he is that sort of baggage will only cause problems.

4.) 19 Oct 2021 10:08:02
It’s bad enough we had a bitey racist, let alone an anti Semite. Hard pass on this one.

5.) 19 Oct 2021 16:17:53
There were other disciplinary issues that led Ten Hag to show him the door at Ajax.

6.) 19 Oct 2021 18:24:08
All ends up he sounds like a bad egg, Redplanet.

7.) 19 Oct 2021 22:09:39
Not like we've never signed a player that was moved out of Ajax, last one caused no trouble whatsoever.

8.) 20 Oct 2021 20:04:21
Looks a talented.

07 Oct 2021 12:19:03
Hi Eds, I know what midfield players we're targeting, Bissouma, Sanches or Kessie, I'm aware of forward players of Sarr, Traore or Bowen but no idea what strikers we're looking at, do you have any insights?

Wuger12

{Ed002's Note - Karim Adeyemi (S) Interest from several sides who have been watching including Barcelona and Liverpool but will not be sold in January. Bayern Munich were told Adeyemi is not for sale and his agent says eventually a move to RBL is planned and I would expect him to be playing in Germany next season. However, Bayern Munich will look to early discussions to try and strike a deal for next summer or just possibly 2023. RBS will continue to resist an early sale but will be will open to an auction next summer. I would not rule out an offer from Borussia Dortmund.}

1.) 07 Oct 2021 15:56:46
Hi Ed2, Thank you for answering all of my annoying questions but I was under the impression that he was Bayern Munich bound which I'm sure you said the other day? Is there a plan b striker we're looking at? We've normally got 3/ 4 names were looking at/ chasing.

{Ed002's Note - As I said "Bayern Munich will look to early discussions to try and strike a deal for next summer or just possibly 2023." Those discussions have started. By next summer I am sure there will be others but I expect the midfield to be the focus first.}

2.)

05 Oct 2021 15:46:42
Hi Eds, my question regards Neco Williams, is he not trusted at right back or is there another issue I'm not seeing, if that's the case why is he not going out on loan. He needs minutes or his talent will stall. What's going on?

Wuger12

{Ed002's Note - He would have been sold in the summer but there were no takes. The interest of Southampton switched to Livramento.}

1.) 05 Oct 2021 16:18:43
And Livramento is the far superior player, let's face it. Neco has been surpassed by Bradley it seems, and so surely a cheap move is on the cards sooner or later.

2.) 05 Oct 2021 17:01:27
It's a shame because he's not a bad RB at all, he's just not TAA.

Maybe our back up RB should be someone slightly older and experienced in the future who's okay with no being 1st choice but is reliable enough when needed.

3.) 05 Oct 2021 18:13:17
Like Milner?

4.) 05 Oct 2021 18:18:25
No top quality RB is going to want to sit on the bench week in, week out. We either use the kids or we use one of a number of versatile players we have already, to cover TAA absences.

5.) 05 Oct 2021 19:09:37
Not Milner War Machine, I think Milner can slot in if there's an emergency but not push TAA for a spot or be a relying back-up for a whole seaso, I think we need someone who had played RB for a career. Its tricky obviously to get good back ups but I'd rather an experienced RB than someone out of position or always relying on a kiddie.

You'd like to think there are some quality 30ish year old RBs out there who would be a good addition to the squad and be a solid enough replacement for TAA.

6.) 05 Oct 2021 19:59:41
When Milner finally retires, or goes to Leeds (same thing maybe), we will certainly feel the loss. Bloke has been immense, and will be tough to replace someone happy and able to fill in here there and anywhere.

{Ed025's Note - im a massive fan of his robb..

7.) 05 Oct 2021 20:06:43
Agreed. I think Milner can cover against mid table teams but against quality opposition he struggles but do we buy someone on the rare occasion Trent is injured for top of the table clash. Personally I’d have played Gomez all day long.

8.) 05 Oct 2021 21:07:09
We now have Timiskas challenging Robbo at LB, surely the same could be said for challenging Trent at RB? Tn17.

9.) 05 Oct 2021 21:09:41
Milner would be grand against literally everyone in this league bar City. Not that he let us down on Sunday but they're a top side in fairness, the only ones who can go head to head over 90 mins with us.

{Ed025's Note - you have yet to face demari gray JH, be afraid..be very afraid.. :)

10.) 05 Oct 2021 20:42:51
Eds, is there a plan to buy another RB when Milner retires, maybe at the end of the season or is the plan to utilise one of our other players to be utilised in a kind of James Milner way?

{Ed002's Note - I doubt it is top of the list.}

11.) 05 Oct 2021 22:24:33
We have Bradley, Gomez, Konate, van den Berg (playing RB / RWB on loan at Preston) and we also have Fabs who can cover the spot. Given we have TAA and Milner isn’t retired and Neco hasn’t gone we have basically 8 players to fill or cover the one spot.

Anyway, I rather suspect the post-Christmas airwaves will be full of the magical word Bissouma once the transfer window opens …….

12.) 05 Oct 2021 22:45:55
I think Milner has proved against teams like Porto he can do a job at right back but against quicker better opposition it has to be TAA and Milner maybe cannot do 2 games in 3 days. A very capable versatile sub is our Milner but not for back to back stuff.

13.) 06 Oct 2021 03:14:28
Dani Alves is knocking about somewhere.

14.) 06 Oct 2021 03:27:09
There were 5 days between the Porto and City gamesTAA is the established RB and given h3 is just about turning 23 he is going to be first choice for a while.

15.) 06 Oct 2021 06:42:45
It is exactly this reason I was a bit gutted we missed out on Leicester’s perrerra (apologies spelling) as we can play both sides to a good standard. If we had someone like that we could have effective cover for both full back positions instead of having to find another player. As much as I rate Tsimikas down the left and think he could start for us I would prefer one player who could cover multiple positions. Yes Milner is good but he lacks the pace these days for that position especially and needs to foul to keep the defence protected, as we saw on Sunday. Can’t remember the last time Milner played and didn’t get booked!

16.) 06 Oct 2021 08:55:02
as WDW said, we have plenty of options at RB, even without Williams (if he were to be sold) .

Personally, out of the players that are not on loan, I see Gomez and Konate being cover through this season. Bradley will hopefully get more chances in the cups, but he looks a season or two (a loan or two? ) away from pushing Trent.

RB is not an issue, so far as I can see.

I see Ox as being the utility player who steps into Milner's shoes, at least in the midfield and forward positions. Jones also is pretty versatile too, albeit I expect him to cement a starting place in the middle 3 very soon!

17.) 07 Oct 2021 14:10:25
Ox as a utility player? I had a lot of hope for him when he joined but the lad isn't focused enough for me. Switches off so easily and sluggish of late. Perhaps he just hasn't been able to get a good run of games beneath him, but I'd have squeaky bum if he was the new captain (un) reliable. Jones would definitely be my preference. He dominated KDB in the City game, always getting infront of the pass and we all know he can go forward. I don't think Curtis will ever be a "worldie" but you need work horses in a team and he has that quality already.

18.) 10 Oct 2021 09:18:24
We seem to be fully stocked at rb. Konate, Gomez, Nico, Milner and Trent will play when fit. I think in defence we are the best of the best.

02 Oct 2021 12:01:13
Hi Eds, just wondered do you still think the most likeliest midfielder we're going to sign is Bissouma or do you think it may be someone else, perhaps a so far unmentioned name?

Wuger12

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer "most likely" questions but the options right now appear to be:
Yves Bissouma (CM/DM) Brighton would like to continue to resist any approaches although time may be running out now - with the player having made known his desire for the club to consider offers for him although has not formally requested a transfer. He shares a "representative" with Pepe who he spent a season with at Lille and he failed to persuade Arsenal to move for him - and they have now likely moved on. Interest of Spurs may not have departed with Mr Mourinho with them moving on Sissoko and looking for an upgrade on Ndombele - although he will not be first choice. Monaco may have provided an option but I suspect the price will be too high for them and they have a first choice preference. he is not home grown which makes him less attractive to most English sides although Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have spoken with his representative. He is not first choice for Manchester City but they could return - Manchester United do not currently have space in the midfield and have a preferred target to replace Pogba and clear DM targets, but don't lose sight of them - Liverpool interest remains but they may not have the money without sales. Leicester were also keen but opted for another. There is a further complication in that his family is directly involved in all major decisions. Brighton have made clear to one side who enquired that they will be looking to get as close as they can to £50M.
Renato Sanches (CM) Lille are happy to let the player move on due to the constant muscle injuries he suffers; they wanted €20M cash or €30M with payments spread out although that could increase if Jorge Mendes can find multiple bidders or if there is no sale in January. Klopp has praised him in the past and he would be a more affordable replacement for Wijnaldum, but interest is not yet firm again. Barcelona had a sustained interest but they have moved on. I had thought prior interest of Wolves would likely have left with NES but they could take a chance on him joining on a loan to buy deal after his recent injury - they may even be in a position to look for a cheaper straight cash deal in January. The concern would be injury issues and, although talented, he is inconsistent.
Franck Kessié (CM) Efforts are being made to secure a new contract, but the issue is over the wages continues with Milan struggling. Could potentially be sold but I expect agreement to be reached eventually else there will be a lot of interest with Juventus looking to meet his demands. Interest of Mr Mourinho at Spurs and now Roma remains. Spurs also want him as an Ndombele replacement but the player remains keen to move to Chelsea to eventually replace Kante - but Chelsea turned down the offer from his agent initially although a proposal is on the table that would suit both clubs and the player. His agent has also approached Manchester United and PSG but both sides would need to move a player on in order to add Kessie - but both are interested. His agent has also spoken with Liverpool and Leicester who may be interested in agreeing a pre-contract in January but both have preferred targets.}

1.) 02 Oct 2021 14:19:58
Bisoumma is infinitely better than the other two options. Premier league proven and a genuinely dominant player in the middle of the park. Sanches is an inconsistent sick note at best and Kessie is an unknown quantity and didn’t look all that good when we played Milan.

2.) 02 Oct 2021 15:31:43
Bissouma outa them 3 alright. Can see the Ox maybe wanting to move on in January in the hope of doing a Lingard 2 get on the plane to Qatar.

3.) 02 Oct 2021 15:34:44
Ed02 - going forward, can we call Sanches ‘he who must not be named’ please? His name just starts the emotionally unstable off every time it’s mentioned.

4.) 02 Oct 2021 19:48:14
Ox leave in January potentially missing out on Prem/ CL winners medal to get a seat on the sub's bench at Qatar?
Seriously?

5.) 02 Oct 2021 21:10:54
Yeh, he's not going to play!4th choice at best now (more 5th cos Keita starts ahead of him) nd will be 6th when Harveys back. Why do our fans think players like Phillips and Ox will be happy to never play. It would be his last World Cup and what player wouldn't want to play in one. Why do you think he left Arsenal to come to us in the first place, because he thought he'd a better chance of playing centre mid.

{Ed0666's Note - Does a firing on all cylinders Ox get into the squad for the World Cup yes I think he does. But a firing on all cylinders Ox won’t happen at Liverpool. So this is a real conundrum. What to do what to do? Me personally I’d stay at Liverpool and potentially win things than throw it away on the odd chance he plays in Qatar for 3 weeks and playing for a lesser club side.

6.) 03 Oct 2021 13:03:40
Yeh but he'd be PLAYING for a lesser club side.

7.) 03 Oct 2021 17:26:17
Ox came to Liverpool to win things. Preferably in centre midfield, but to win trophies he could see (correctly) he wasn't going to win at Arsenal.
Chuck that away and probably take a big hit on wages for a chance to get splinters in his hoop at Qatar?
Doubt that'll happen.

Hi Eds, I'm reading we are signing a Brazilian goalkeeping coach to help Becker. 2 questions, what does this mean for Acterburg and are we still looking at signing Becker's brother?

Wuger12

{Ed002's Note - I understand that Alisson has pretty much demanded Claudio Taffarel help out but he wont be leaving the national set up. I don't think it will impact the other coaching staff.}

1.) 30 Nov 2021 20:14:50
Taffarel was a brilliant keeper can only see this as a good thing.

2.) 30 Nov 2021 22:00:27
I'm presuming this will also help Ali get in the Brazil team ahead of Ederson too. If Taffarel is coaching him every day he can be in the Brazilian manager's ear about how amazing he is.
If it keeps Ali happy then it seems like a good move.

{Ed002's Note - AB is a very good goalkeeper and it seems weird that he is looking for Liverpool to employ the national goalkeeping coach to help his chances of playing for the national side.}

3.) 30 Nov 2021 22:04:08
Acered, I remember the first time I watched Claudio Tafarel play and it was during the U20 WC in 1985. He was the one who put to bed this notion that Brazil could not produce good GKs cos allegedly “You only play in goal cos you’re crap out on the pitch” in Brazil. Now, Brazil cannot stop producing great GKs. A true legend and and great humanitarian.

4.) 30 Nov 2021 23:30:20
Taffarel and Alisson have worked together since years and years (ever since Alisson's Internacional days in Brazil) . I don't think it has to do with Alisson's national team aspirations only. I think the club is thinking forward with Marcelo Pitaluga down the line after Kelleher. There's no doubting Taffarel's goalkeeping experience and knowledge, and both he and Alisson form a mutual admiration society.

5.) 30 Nov 2021 23:44:06
I don’t think it makes any difference to Achterberg’s position, he’s well liked by Klopp and is a very good keeping coach. Having someone like Taffarel on board only strengthens a decent set up.

6.) 01 Dec 2021 01:06:58
Good for our Brazilian contingent to have another member join them as well, I’m always impressed that they’ve settled so well and seem content with life in the NW and fried curry and chips.

7.) 01 Dec 2021 05:21:27
@ArAy, if Alison is here for the next two or three years I think Kelleher may well be bypassed in favour of Pitaluga. He’s already playing in the U-23s ….

8.) 01 Dec 2021 06:39:18
WDW, you may be right. It's certainly pointing in that direction, but you never know. Pitaluga is only 18 to Kelleher's 23. And there's Davies right behind Pitaluga. Either way, our goalkeeping set up is getting better and better.

9.) 01 Dec 2021 10:06:04
Is he definitely demanding the coach to help his chances of getting into the national team? Is it plausible he just likes the coach a lot?

{Ed002's Note - I don't know why he is doing it. Most clubs would not agree to such demands.}

05 Oct 2021 15:46:42
Hi Eds, my question regards Neco Williams, is he not trusted at right back or is there another issue I'm not seeing, if that's the case why is he not going out on loan. He needs minutes or his talent will stall. What's going on?

Wuger12

{Ed002's Note - He would have been sold in the summer but there was no interest.}

27 Sep 2021 21:45:57
I do believe there's been a premier League shift in the last 4-5 years which is teams who won the premier League as a rule would go for draws on the football equals which would earn you 85-90 points. since the introduction of Klopp and Guardiola they both seem to try for wins and earning in excess 97 points. Tuchel went for a draw with us and City and for this reason I don't think they'll win the prem, I also personally think he'll p. of most people at Chelsea.

Wuger12

1.) 28 Sep 2021 06:27:11
Don’t agree. Sorry. Tuchel and his level will not set out to draw. They may adjust line ups and tactics, but it’s to win. If any argument is there it could be respect. Did he show too much by not playing his game and trying too hard to out think his rival? But honestly if a manager at this level starts a game or sets out a plan to hope for a draw? Ridiculous. I’m obviously not including teams like a Burnley or Norwich who may not expect to beat a top four side. Even then I doubt either of their managers set out to draw. In fact I doubt they or their players train all week to hope for a draw. At some point in the game if it’s not going as planned or the underdog achieves the lead, then yes adjust to keep the point (s) or salvage. But to plan. Nah not for me.

2.) 28 Sep 2021 08:56:53
Grobs, Tuchel plays negative football and has been doing that way before he got to Chelsea. Since he arrived at Chelsea, they play with up to 7 defensive players regardless of where they play home or away. If Allardyce, Jose and Pulis play that way we would have said they were playing for a draw as that would be their plan at least at the start. Why is that different with Tuchel, exactly when that is what he has been doing at PSG and now at Chelsea? I don't get it.

3.) 28 Sep 2021 09:17:00
Difference is that Chelsea are towards the top of the League. Its boring football but effective and gets results clearly.

4.) 28 Sep 2021 09:30:12
Even the teams you mention don't set out just to draw a match. They may have to set up tactics for a smash and grab kind of game but with something like that you have to stay in the game for as long as you can and wait for the opportunity to arrive. You can't win a game in the first 5 minutes but you can lose it.

5.) 28 Sep 2021 09:58:03
Chelsea have the funds to buy the quality of striker that Tuchel thinks they need to get the goals that will scrape them 3 points. Make sure the defence is nigh on impregnable and hope the attacking midfielders and forward do their bit.
Effective with the right players, but I wouldn't be paying a fortune to stand and watch that for 90 minutes.

6.) 28 Sep 2021 10:44:43
There’s nothing wrong with giving others credit. Chelsea for me are nowhere near as exciting to watch as we are but they aren’t exactly a park the bus and try and pinch a goal kind of team. In their opening 6 fixtures they have scored the same amount of league goals as the free scoring Man City and are only 3 goals behind us. They are currently averaging 2 goals a game. The big difference I would say between us and them is when they play City and maybe us they are far more conservative. But when we play them or City we do not change the way we play every team. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn’t. Hence why we have given City sone thumpings over the last few seasons but they have also returned that favour on more than 1 occasion.

There’s nothing wrong with giving a little praise or appreciation to others. It doesn’t make us less of supporters.

7.) 28 Sep 2021 11:35:14
I wouldn’t have said Chelsea were playing for a draw against Liverpool until James was sent off. Which of course changed the dynamics and set up to hold on to the point.

8.) 28 Sep 2021 15:50:54
Exactly Fuser, Chelsea didn’t play for a draw in the first half. In the second half we could very much be accused of playing for a draw.

27 Sep 2021 16:34:21
Hi Eds, we were linked with Donyell Malen and Patson Daka over the summer, do you see that as a good miss or do you think we might regret it?

Wuger12

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool is "linked" with many players but never made approaches for either.}

1.) 27 Sep 2021 17:41:17
The stats suggest that neither is pulling down trees in their respective league though. I must however admit that I haven't seen them play.

2.) 27 Sep 2021 19:04:51
Pulling up trees?

3.) 27 Sep 2021 22:04:43
Definitely up Jay.

4.) 28 Sep 2021 05:04:45
Cue Michael Palin.

5.) 28 Sep 2021 07:54:57
Sorry lads, my bad. I meant "pulling up"

6.) 28 Sep 2021 09:41:09
Ugbes if the trees comes down does it really matter if it’s being pulled up or down mate. End result is the same.

Not sure if the Brazilian contingent will be able to play in that game. Anyone know?

4/ 5 years ago, our best player was coutinho, he left, and our players all stepped up a gear and now we have lots of good players. Salah is not irreplaceable, and whoever Klopp chooses to replace him, I'm behind the decision. Personally, I'd love Chiesa to replace him and I wouldn't be gutted if he did.

I thank my lucky stars that I'm old enough, to be alive when Liverpools 4 greatest club managers imo we're at the helm. Shankley, Paisley, Dalglish and Klopp. (perhaps not quite wise enough at the time) . It strikes, the impossible job, in what order do they go?
