Any truth to the Benzema rumours?

Wellredknuckledragger

1.) 31 Mar 2018 09:01:04
No not happening.

2.) 31 Mar 2018 09:30:47
Hope not. Awful player and a dreadful man.

{Ed025's Note - half right there MrS, good player but a whole heap of trouble mate..

3.) 31 Mar 2018 10:17:18
He’s a bit of an unsung hero at Madrid and grafts a hell of a lot and is one of the reasons Ronaldo scores so many. He’s similar to Firmino but I’d say that at this juncture he’s not as good.
The whole blackmail thing is alarming, I don’t know the full ins and outs and I think the case might still be open? But to be involved with something like that against a team mate is disgusting and he must surely have lost trust from his other team mates?

4.) 31 Mar 2018 09:18:19
God I Hope not.

Rumour has it that Barcelona are to buy Griezmann and Athletico want replace him with Lemar. Any legs on that one eds? That would throw the cat amongst the pigeons!

Wellredknuckledragger

1.) 18 Jan 2018 06:53:17
Seems fairly common knowledge that Barcelona will be in for Greizman in the summer. If Atletico want Lemar that could put a spanner in the works for any potential interest we may have.

2.) 18 Jan 2018 08:04:14
If Monaco want an extra £20m, say, for Lemar in January, then why not do it now?
If he's good enough for Summer, he's good enough now?

Arsenal bit the bullet and are selling Sanchez. A bitter pill but at least it's sweetened with some income.
Could / should Liverpool do the same with Can - see if Juventus will stump up £10-15m and then get Lemar in this month?

3.) 18 Jan 2018 08:44:51
We are after Griezmann remember chaps. .

4.) 18 Jan 2018 08:45:09
I agree Juicer. Don't see the point in waiting unless the guy is desperate to join us which he isn't.

He will be in demand in the summer, the price is only going to increase. Monaco don't need the money and he's going to play the world cup in a good french team.

5.) 18 Jan 2018 09:37:53
I can't see it happening he's way overpriced even for us.

6.) 19 Jan 2018 15:22:38
Athletico are not a big club anymore and certainly won’t offer any kind of wages an English club could.

I was 7 in the augural season of the premier league so forgive my ignorance please. I am always hearing people refer to sky as sly and bemoaning Rupert Murdoch's influence on football. Whether that is just the English game i do not know, but i would just like to know the reason why people are against Sky and Murdoch? Is it due to the sudden influx of money or the 'destruction of the soul' of the game, for example? If it is money i would just like to point out that in 1979 Trevor Francis was bought for just over £1million and in 1991 David Platt was bought for £5.5million. It's not as if money wasn't being spent at a much more progressive rate anyway. As far as Murdoch goes, there aren't many more vile people in the world, in my opinion, but what harm has he actually done to football? I'm not saying he hasn't been or that Sky hasn't been detrimental, I would just like to know why they are so disliked?

Wellredknuckledragger

1.) 31 Mar 2018 14:39:43
Sly are associated to the newsgroup who have the infamously inaccurate newspaper that won't and shouldn't be mentioned on here.
There's more to it, but that's the standout.

2.) 31 Mar 2018 18:05:44
Ah yes, sorry everyone. I had a rather large brain freeze there and didn't ask my question with all due respect. Thank you for your answers.

There does seem to be a wider dislike of modern football practices/ finances/ culture etc that often seems to get blamed on Sky and the Premier League since its inception and I just wanted to know why? If it is purely for those reasons then fair enough, but it seems like there's more to it. I guess I've asked a question before working out exactly how to phrase it.

3.) 31 Mar 2018 20:43:01
What bothers me most is that they are allowed to advertise their own betting company which means there must be a conflict of interest when they're just making up stories about player x and team y. No one seems to ever talk about it.

4.) 01 Apr 2018 22:50:17
Agreed Nick.

Hi Eds. A question or two about Grujic, if I may. Is there still genuine hope that he will make it into a first team regular?

I understand the need to get him games on loan, for permit issues as well as personal development and I think the loan was a good idea, for all parties. Also, regardless of what he was told about game time that he hasn't had, he was clearly earmarked as a star of the future. With the uncertainty over Can's future, and the need to bolster the midfield do you think Grujic will have the ability to step up in the near (ish) future?

One more. Yesterday he was deployed as a defensive midfielder for Cardiff. Will Klopp or anyone at Liverpool have had an influence on where/ how they want him to play as well as how much?

Wellredknuckledragger

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what Liverpool expect but his family are far from happy. He was a young player who was offered too much money by the club who then lied to get him a work permit. There has been no plan for his development at all and it would be fair to say he has been entirely mismanaged by the club.}

1.) 21 Jan 2018 16:40:14
It seems the only plan we had for Grujic was pre season game involvement. Hardly inspiring.

2.) 21 Jan 2018 16:42:07
Must be awful being paid too much money 😏.

3.) 21 Jan 2018 17:05:59
Ok cheers ed. Well hopefully there's a way back for everyone. Would love him to succeed. He's looked pretty good whenever I've seen him.

4.) 21 Jan 2018 21:12:18
He had injuries and is way too robust with challenges but he should have been given more opportunities too. The loan will be good for him either way.

5.) 22 Jan 2018 02:06:59
I agree Amerigo, I think there may have been an initial plan - he was certainly getting games pre-season but injuries have robbed him of time to get experience and consistency. in that time others have come in and pushed him further down the pecking order unfortunately. he needs a loan as he looks further away than ever to the 1st team right now.

08 Jan 2018 23:55:47
Does anyone fancy a game of random name generator?

If you could pick one name in football, currently playing that we could spend the coutinho money on who would it be? (Whether they would come or not)

I personally love watching Marco Veratti play and although I haven't watched him all that extensively, he exudes class every time I see him. He would add everything we need in a midfielder.

I know nothing of his off field demeanour but on it, he seems to have got the lot.

Wellredknuckledragger

1.) 09 Jan 2018 00:16:21
Joshua Kimmich.

2.) 09 Jan 2018 00:29:22
Good shout, might mean curtains for Arnold and Gomez though.

3.) 09 Jan 2018 00:25:51
De Bruyne.

4.) 09 Jan 2018 00:59:33
Ha! Yea I like it. He'd probably cost more than Neymar at the moment, but what a player. Sorry if I'm swearing but he's the closest thing to Gerrard I've seen.

5.) 09 Jan 2018 01:03:40
Hazard.

6.) 09 Jan 2018 01:53:44
Luis Suarez back memories imagine him again the 2nd coming.

7.) 09 Jan 2018 02:06:24
Isco or de bruyne for me.

8.) 09 Jan 2018 03:25:38
Arturo Vidal - getting on a bit but think he would be the deep midfielder to take us to another level.

9.) 09 Jan 2018 04:49:53
Luan Vieira.

10.) 09 Jan 2018 06:16:16
KDB. end of story.

11.) 09 Jan 2018 07:32:48
Dybala for me.

12.) 09 Jan 2018 08:37:22
Verratti the closest thing you have seen to Gerrard? Like seriously? Verratti? Did you only watch Gerrard's last 2-3 seasons at Anfield when he played deeper in midfield? I am seriously curious. Because Gerrard and Veratti are 2 very very different players.

13.) 09 Jan 2018 08:39:04
Asensio.

14.) 09 Jan 2018 17:24:33
No sorry, not Veratti, De Bruyne. I was replying to Salah :)

30 Dec 2017 20:07:01
Frickin' love Gomez. Strong, quick, hardly flustered, tackles, intercepts and still only 20. Just thought he was worth a mention. Best player today for me. Him and Trent are exciting. Don't often say that about defenders.

Wellredknuckledragger

1.) 30 Dec 2017 20:25:56
Yeah a bit of alright isn't he mate, really like the lad, I'm excited to see him and VVD in the defence together because before VVD, Gomez was the only defender really worth a mention. I know TAA is class as well, Moreno has impressed me this season but the more notable is Gomez, he is excellent especially when you consider his age.

2.) 30 Dec 2017 20:45:10
Lots still to learn tho! But yh looking good. Best of luck to the boy, they all need it. 💪✌.

3.) 30 Dec 2017 20:53:13
When do we think Klopp is going to move him more central. Will it be this season, next or longer?

4.) 30 Dec 2017 20:58:41
Think it will be the summer Jayden, put him in there now with all our defensive issues and it could ruin his confidence. Give him preseason to build an understanding with VVD, don’t rush with the lad as he has huge potential.

5.) 30 Dec 2017 21:00:22
I'd like to see it this season with VVD Jayden the thought excites me I just can't see it happening, I think maybe next season.

6.) 30 Dec 2017 21:03:06
WYred agree on that mate.

7.) 30 Dec 2017 21:49:46
Back off guys. he's a work in progress! Encouragement is good but temper the expectation. He still has a lot to learn. his decision making is still developing and he will make mistakes.
I'd like to see Lovren given a run with VVD, I'm convinced he'll come good with a quick, mobile partner. Certainly in the short term. Matip for me brings nothing but frustration!

8.) 30 Dec 2017 22:41:48
Matip has gone from being our best defender to 4th choice in the matter of a few months. Obviously this an opinion based comment but I think it says a lot about his quality and consistency that this can even be an opinion. At his best he’s probably our best CB IMO, however now that a young unproven English lad, an aging Estonian and a mistake riddled Croatian are being preferred to him says a lot about how poor he has been this year. Surprised as he looked good at Schalke. What do we do so differently that brings out the worst in our CB’s?

9.) 30 Dec 2017 23:47:15
Westwood, it's all about systems. Matip confessed in the offseason about how he could not believe the pace and strength of CF's in the PL until he started playing in the PL. In the Bundesliga, you don't have that type of tempo and physicality. I remember Ed02 saying that Matip was decent BUT not great and he/ she was right. Matip has been exposed as a poor CB who can be very good BUT seems to just wanna coast thru games and is like VVD, a stroller only that VVD is very talented and needs coaching.

Lovren has always been a very good CB ability wise since his days at Lyon (he signed there from Dynamo Zagreb at 19) BUT his prob was what was btw his ears as he was so rahsh in the challenge as we have all seen here at LFC. That part may have been improved upon now BUT at Saints, he had Fonte (the leader of their defence) next to him along with two DM's in front of him. BR played him alongside the dreadful Skrtl with Wee Joe at DM for the disaster we know of now. To me, Lovren would be my pick to partner VVD as he needs a calmer head next to him and he is second only to VVD ability wise, IMO.

Well, apparently reports this morning that couti's agent (s) are now downplaying the links and saying he had to try a hardline stance to get the deal done, but having realised it's not happening, are making all the noises for him to get reintegrated into the squad and playing down his involvement in the transfer request etc.

Any truth in this eds? I didn't think it would happen anyway.

Wellredknuckledragger

1.) 22 Aug 2017 09:47:17
Good to see his back injury has cleared up.

2.) 22 Aug 2017 09:48:56
He seems like the kind of guy who could get led around easily by such people, ed002 already suggested that he could have been pressured into signing the contract in January.

3.) 22 Aug 2017 09:50:25
Well He need to do something to win over the fans. Blame others or apologize in public ( which I don't think will ever happen ) . I don't think this would change Klopp's mind!

4.) 22 Aug 2017 10:02:34
Theyve obviously realised its not happening and that its world cup year.

5.) 22 Aug 2017 10:13:33
That Joorabchian chap is one real snake. Outrageous statement after what has been said and done. This only degrades PC even more in my eyes.

Apologize and hang your head in shame, then work twice as hard to regain some level of trust.

6.) 22 Aug 2017 10:27:25
I think he needs a few games in the u23's to sort him out. He shouldn't get a fast track back to the first team if he isn't going to Barca.

7.) 22 Aug 2017 11:13:58
Just saying, he has not done or said anything publicly to justify any vilification from anyone. Not that I distrust 002's info, but footballers don't always possess the necessarys to think for themselves entirely. Especially when an agent or equivalent is pushing and pushing etc. If he comes back and knuckles down then I have no qualms with him.

8.) 22 Aug 2017 12:24:34
explain how that helps anyone Dennis?

an adult conversation around conduct will suffice just fine.

leaving him out of the team when we have city as our first game after window closes will only hurt us as a team.

9.) 22 Aug 2017 13:25:34
Spot on, 87red. What were we expecting from an agent like Kia Joorabchian, a real piece of work? We have known Cou for 4 years and we know how much of a nice guy he has been. As soon as I knew who his agent was, I knew it was his agent egging him on cos Cou just does not have it in him to do and say all that crap. He has his part of the blame for sure and should/ will be dealt with in house by Klopp and that should be that. and for those saying "he should not play here again" or "he should play some games in the reserves" or this or that crap should just calm down and breathe easy. That will benefit no one but our opponents. We need him and we all know it as the CP game suggests so he will be dealt with and will be ready for City in a couple of weeks.

Sometimes a thumbs down can be a no as an answer rather than a no to the question, it's not always a dig mate. That being said, I'd have either of them but they'd have to put up with the same situation in terms of game time, though the football would be better for them!

Well sounds promising if that is a position to make his own. Few stats (not that you can tell much from them) and an article of conjecture but then I don't watch the bundesliga really. I assume Klopp et al do and therefore, as there is previous interest at least, they will be taking notice. On a free? Might be worth a go. Any thoughts as to whether he would be worth it?

2 midfielders in plus Keita. Can out, lallana out, Milner out (unfortunately) . If they need time to settle - midfield of hendo, Gini and ox isn't bad in the mean time.

Man, I’m jealous. Angkor Wat is amazing. We hired a private guide for 10 dollars for the day and he took us round all the temples and stopped at his favourite places to eat on the way round. I’m sure you’ve been told, but if you can, try and get there for sunrise. It’s like nothing else I’ve seen, so beautiful. Anyway, I stayed in a place called Hak’s House. I was lucky that I got to watch it there but ask one of the tuk tuk drivers otherwise, they know everything you need to know. Have an awesome time man!

To me VAR is simple. The current format is there to protect the referee, not the game. In my version each team gets one appeal. If it is upheld, you keep your appeal, if it is not you lose you're appeal. It would makes teams think hard about appealing decisions and referees would be absolved of extra blame.

Secondly, instead of one VAR, you have three per game, in separate rooms, with no communication. They watch the same videos at the same time and have a vote. The decision is made. There would be more consistency as they would learn what is considered a correct decision and once again, no blame at the match referee's door.

The current system is whack, but designed by a referee, so what do you expect?
