Lyon relegated to league 2 (pending appeal) would LFC go for forfana? He may be dirt cheap and I assume he (all) will want to leave.

Riomazy

1.) 24 Jun 2025 21:24:57
Do people really think that because Lyon have been relegated they are just going to start giving players away?

2.) 24 Jun 2025 21:26:08
I doubt he will be that cheap as there are other clubs, including Chelsea, interested in him.

Will be interested to see where he goes and for how much as he has been reported as costing €50m, obviously before the relegation was confirmed (pending appeal)

3.) 24 Jun 2025 21:35:48
they will apeal and since Textor sold his stake in CP for 200 million, I guess they will not be relegated after all.

4.) 24 Jun 2025 21:45:51
Fofana is more like the PSG front line. yes please.

5.) 24 Jun 2025 21:52:23
Chief Scout Barry Hunter highly rates Fofana. So does another Ed on this site who cannot mention his name for fear of incurring the wrath of a certain Irish man ?.

6.) 24 Jun 2025 22:00:53
The owner sold his stake in Palace because he was not allowed to own 2 clubs in the same competition (Europa League) . Lyon won’t get that money, it is his. They will still need to make further player sales to balance the books (either to appeal and avoid relegation or because they have been relegated) . They will likely hope to start a bidding war for their 1 remaining valuable asset and if enough clubs are interested he might lot be that cheap.

7.) 24 Jun 2025 23:25:11
Fofana allegedly has a relegation release clause of 30 million euros.

8.) 25 Jun 2025 02:45:29
There was some (probably pre-emptive) click bait the other day that said the boy wants to play for Liverpool, or rather his agent said that the boy wants to play for us) . I didn’t actually read it myself as I’ve been warned off clickbait by a range of self appointed censors but my personal proof reader informed me of the content.

9.) 25 Jun 2025 11:09:12
I don’t think the notion of a club having something of a “fire sale” after an immediate relegation for financial misdemeanours is that wacky.

A clubs bargaining power is if the club are an attractive option for the player who is under contract to remain at. They are not. So the players will be motivated to leave, this reduces the fee.
The second issue is they can only afford to pay the wages they currently pay because they will receive Ligue 1 finances. They will not. So financially it is contingent upon them to sell their best assets as quickly and effectively as possible.

The players they let go, and it will be a significant amount, will likely leave at a reduced fee compared to the fee received if they remained in Ligue 1.

{Ed077's Note - will the Europa league money not offset some of the losses?

10.) 25 Jun 2025 11:28:07
Will Lyon still be in the europa league this season despite being relegated for financial matters.

11.) 25 Jun 2025 11:42:32
Some, but given the uncertain nature of the next five years those monies would likely be ring fenced.
It’s not a certainty they will be promoted back to Ligue 1. If the squad is decimated they may endure a longer stay out of Ligue 1 and will likely struggle in Europe.

All speculation, they may only get a fine and the relegation might not happen, or the Europa League place maybe in doubt. But I do suspect a lot of players will be eyeing the exit regardless.

{Ed077's Note - it won't be a surprise if players looked for a move instead of a season in Division 2. For a lot of them, it's a World Cup year too. I was just saying, unlike other Ligue 2 teams, they would have revenue from European football to help with their finances, provided they didn't get banned from UEFA competitions too.
It would be hella funny to me if they won the Europa and qualified for CL footie but didn't get promoted next season and were still a Ligue 2 outfit. ?

Ed. Do you think that they are more interested in transferring salah wages onto treats contract as he's still has sell on potential.

Whereas even if they do extend his contract in 3 yrs he will still effectively leave for free and 20m a year won't be recovered. Even after 2 I doubt saudi would pay 40m.

Riomazy

{Ed001's Note - no.}

1.) 28 Nov 2024 05:29:17
If salah gives another 2-3 years of 25-30 goals and 10-15 assist i don't mind loosing him for 40m instead of say 100m right now.

{Ed025's Note - what makes you think you could get £100m for him now Liverbird?, he can go for free in the summer mate..

2.) 28 Nov 2024 06:25:37
I meant if his contract wasnt up and then bidding it mate. But ya right now our contracts are all messed up. fsg really need to sort out the guys who handle it.

3.) 29 Nov 2024 10:58:08
Presumably Riomazy sees us signing a Salah replacement who'll play for nothing.

4.) 29 Nov 2024 13:13:17
What? . that's my point entirely.

Are they thinking move salah on. Bump up trent another 100k and replace salah.

Marmoush eg. isn't going to command 350k. It won't be like for like wages and would allow flexibility,
Personally I think they can't afford all three in wages especially trent payrise and aren't sure which ones to keep

Salah should stay and invest replacement same time. 20m in 1 year salary won't break the bank. If you can recoup in a transfer. Not offering a contract makes no sense to me. The only risk is whether he goes downhill fast and sits it out rather than move on.

Ed. Your answer was a straight no, so explain why no one has a clue what's going on.

{Ed001's Note - why do I need to explain it? No one has a clue because they aren't involved in the club's finances directly to have a clue.}

5.) 29 Nov 2024 17:53:27
Nobody having a clue what's going on is the way it should be.
Comical demanding that an Ed explain why the club doesn't make it's private business public.

HI Ed. there was lot of smoke over the last couple of months which turned out to be fire regarding Diaz. similarly with Bellingham. Will he now be the no.1 summer transfer.

I'm aware the cost would be £90m and LFC are skint but with outgoings fees/ wages. do you think a deal is likely to be struck.

Riomazy

{Ed002's Note - Jude Bellingham (CM) Manchester United and Chelsea were keen before he moved to Germany and will be interested again when he is made available for sale – and expect interest from Manchester City and potentially Liverpool as well. Dortmund will not be forced in to selling him next year and will seek a huge fee (more than €£90M) when he is sold.}

1.) 31 Jan 2022 11:28:11
cheers ed. i think the eye of klopp should definately be in a midfield player. milner will go to leeds. keita is useless. thiago is a crock. jones not good enough IMO.

2.) 31 Jan 2022 12:01:26
Why is Jones always written off?

3.) 31 Jan 2022 12:07:06
Phillips from Leeds or bissouma I reckon we will end up with …and I will be happy with either 😉.

4.) 31 Jan 2022 12:09:12
Harsh on Jones mate. But I do agree we need a midfielder, only one though.

5.) 31 Jan 2022 13:12:55
Jones is a perfect ManCity type player - they have a stack of them and he’s pretty much our only one - we need to keep him and play regularly for that player with a bit of guile.

Hi Ed. Kacper Kozłowski has been linked apparently trying to steal him ahead of brighton for £10m with jan loan back option as they are trying to win league. Any news he looks good but dives/ roles about an awful lot.

Riomazy

{Ed002's Note - Kacper Kozlowski (AM) Szczecin have denied that an agreement is already in place with Bayer Leverkusen although an ex-player has been allowed to advise the youngster on what is best moving forward. Bayer Leverkusen are smart and replaced Havertz with Wirtz and perhaps KK is next in line. The Red Bull group will make a proposal to take him in to the fold in the summer at RBS or RBL who are looking for a Dani Olmo replacement. A number of English sides have sent scouts to watch him with Brighton best placed to challenge Bayer Leverkusen.}

1.) 17 Dec 2021 14:11:26
Looking for a dani olmo replacement, any idea where he will be going?

Parish (Palace chairman) has just rubbishd the brewster. rumours on talk sport.

Riomazy

1.) 21 Sep 2020 15:46:40
Sly trying to funnel some money to Sky Bet again no doubt.

2.) 21 Sep 2020 15:48:04
Talksport are owned by the same media group that owns the S*n. Why are you listening to that rubbish?

3.) 21 Sep 2020 16:35:10
I suppose you don't watch sky sports either.

4.) 21 Sep 2020 18:24:03
Talkrubbish.

5.) 21 Sep 2020 20:48:37
heard from other sources this is accurate, offer was made.

6.) 22 Sep 2020 07:17:28
I don’t believe palace have made that bid. They outlay £25m the the lad becomes a premier league star but they only make £12m on him seems a bit of a stretch.

7.) 22 Sep 2020 10:31:22
Exactly grino, as soon as I heard about the buy black clause figure I knew it was BS. Never in a million years is this true.

8.) 22 Sep 2020 10:48:12
It may be a strategy not to drive up the price.

9.) 22 Sep 2020 12:01:47
Why don't you think its true? Liverpool had a buy back clause when Ibe left. He flopped so it wasn't excersized and he's on his way out to Derby.

Personally i would prefer ekitike. LFC can cope with a 15 goal striker until he finds his feet. They won the league without a striker last year and Isak only scored 10 in first season.

I think newcastle are trying to buy Ekitike before they sell so they try and get a reduced price, otherwise frankfurt will not sell at a deal knowing they have 120m in the bank.

Yes jota is injured but still scores more than nunez. So keep jota for sub sell numez and bring in gykores. A natural finisher. Haalands rubbish but a great finisher. Numez runs around but can't score.

Can't understand why they just don't offer what he wants. what have they got to lose if they also buy replacement.

Salah can be rested and replacement intergrated.

If salah form dips and replacement proves promising. Then sell next year to saudi.

If replacement is rubbish and salah maintains. Then sell replacement and look elsewhere.

Look I get it that Southampton want £50m but if LFC offered £41m surely they would take it.

1: City can have him for £40m next year
2: If no one offers £50m then a year in the championship will see his value plummet.
3: he could get injured / form dips.
