Hi Eds/ All,
What is everyone's thoughts on less foreign player now coming through the youth system? What I mean to say is, are there less foreign and more players from England / Home Nations coming through most youth systems rather than stock piling of foreign youngers.
You look at Liverpool for example and the young players looking to break into the first team. Trent-Arnold, Gomez, Solanke and Woodburn.
Is this a result of changes in rules.

It's always been mainly English players coming through, but the top clubs always seemed to sign 17-18 year olds from abroad which blocked the paths of the English lads.
With St George's Park, the new home grown rules, and just a general increase in the quality of English academies; we are now seeing more young English players come through.
20 years ago, the main decent academies in England were Everton, Man United, West Ham and Liverpool.
Nowadays you can add Chelsea, Southampton, Man City, Crewe, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leicester and Tottenham to that list. Clubs seem to be putting more emphasis on developing there own players.
Sadly though, some clubs have given up on it because they are sick of developing players only to have them poached when they are good enough. Huddersfield are a prime example.

I don't know of any significant rule change I would tend to look more towards the foreign players and the different styles of play having an influence on the younger home nation players which has been a positive. That coupled with the fact we have two sets of world cup winning English players!

Spaceman - Any player/ players bought would be financed by the club not FSG, eg. from current club revenue or borrowing/ payment etcs. So would make little difference to the valuation, they may even have a negative effect due to increased liabilities on the balance sheet.
I would think that we would not sign anyone in January unless a buyer is found and an agreement is struck to make signing presale but I would not think that is possible.

It is difficult to see how they can sell, the club is significantly devalued at the moment due to reduced revenue with the ongoing C.V. situation. If FSG want as much money as possible they will have to wait for a better economic environment, that could be another year away.
If C.V. hadn't come along, the club would have been worth the most last summer.
Who is going to buy the club with the current situation going on.

Has anyone noticed that the positioning is no way near as fluid as before. It used to seem like the forwards all swapped round and popped up in each others position. I think against Man U I saw salah and mane switch once, salah was soo wide on the right all game. Maybe it is just a confidence thing and they are just trying to keep it simple to get back into form.

Redman84, what a ridiculous comparison, a striker who deserved to score but didn't had 90mins to prove it. We have not had our 90mins yet and that is the point, we are 10-1 up with 10 minutes to go, we deserve to win. The manager, staff and team deserve to win it, I don't think anyone can argue with that.

Damn Joe Gomez on high injury proneness, breaking his ankle every few months! Maybe he is really clumsy.

How is our attack better without him, we have hardly made a chance from open play!

Ed001, is that any different to the comment above about tsimikas over hitting a cross early on it setting the tone, I am saying the Nunez miss had a similar effect. All of our forwards are struggling with taking chances, that is literally a fact. They all have to take some responsibility for our downturn in form, along with the bizarre team selection from the manager.
{Ed001's Note - how could the Nunez miss change the course of the match if we are saying it was already set from the beginning? You are clearly missing the point. It changed nothing, we were terrible from the start, that was a symptom not a cause.}

I think the Nunez miss was where the game turned, if he had finished what was a great chance then the game looks very different. It was a shocking miss.
{Ed001's Note - oh here we go, blame Nunez for missing when the whole team was playing terribly from the start and the crowd were non-existent. The game never turned, it was the same from start to finish.}

I always defined 'world class' as - If there was a squad of players that were made up of the best players from around the world, would they be included? That's my definition anyway.
Salah gets into that squad, particularly based on how many goals he would score, hence in my opinion, world class.

Technically no because there are currently only 4 spots for the champions league and we are 11 points off 5th with 21 available.
But it is looking increasely likely that there will be an extra spot awarded for the coefficient points due to how well the English teams are progressing in the european competitions but it is not decided yet.
If we do get the 5 spots then yes, we are 22 points infront of Man U in 6th.
