Good morning one and all. Hope we are all happy at getting champions league football again for another year.

Questions for the Ed's regarding Nat Philips. Do you think that he has done enough for Liverpool to have him as one of our centre backs next year or do you think Liverpool will look to cash in? Thanks.

Mr K

{Ed002's Note - It is not a case of "cashing in" - I expect his future will depend on arrivals and other departures.}

1.) 24 May 2021 12:11:45
VVD, Konate, Gomez, Matip and Phillips. That’ll do for me, I’d definitely have 5 CB’s because we don’t know if VVD and Gomez will be fully ready at the start of next season. Matip has his injury issues and Konate needs time to settle. Keeping Phillips would be a smart move.
If he’s not had much playing time by January maybe he or Matip moves on in the transfer window.

2.) 24 May 2021 12:14:12
I think its more in the player's court than ours. He will at best be 4th choice once everyone is fit (VVD, Gomez, Konate/ A N Other will be ahead of him) . Matip is a better fit for our set up when he is fit. As that tends to happy on Tuesday evenings when we rarely has games, I think Nat's reliability may count in favour of him getting more games than Matip in a season.

If he wants to go hunting for regular first team football then I guess we will have to say goodbye. However, I can see him getting at least 20 games a season if not more.

If I was him, I would stay for next season, as VVD and Gomez will be coming back to fitness and new CB will be settling in, and then make a decision by Jan 22. He is in contract until summer 23 (AFAIK) so there will be plenty of time to either sign a new contract or to get a decent return on a sale for the club.

3.) 24 May 2021 12:27:27
I'd rather we kept Philips and moved on Matip. Matip is a great player just his injuries mean he's in for a game or two then out for eight. That's not a sustainable defensive strategy.

4.) 24 May 2021 14:18:38
Second that Baz. Phillips has proven his metal.

5.) 24 May 2021 14:45:20
Philips made 20 appearances this season.
I don’t see how he matches or betters that again next season.
Unless we’re really really unlucky again.
Theres big financial reasons for both selling and keeping Philips.
In all likelihood his value with us will never be as high as it is now. However if we want to save the £18mil on Kabak to use elsewhere (help fund Konate? ) we could let Kabak go and hold onto Philips as a 4/ 5th choice option. Down side there is his value will very likely depreciate. That would leave us with VVD, Gomez, Matip, Konate, Philips.
In football terms Kabak seems the better “footballer” than Philips but as we’ve seen Philips is aerially dominant. Between the 2 I think Kabak has the higher ceiling.

6.) 24 May 2021 15:09:16
I can see him being first choice in cup games (and I think he will be very useful against lower league teams in the early rounds) and I think he will get a handful of appearances in the prem in the early stages as well.
So for us he’s well worth keeping, he’s reliable as back up and doesn’t have the fitness issues of Matip.
But I do think he’s good enough to play regularly somewhere now so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go at the end of next season or even this summer.

7.) 24 May 2021 16:45:26
how much do people honestly think Phillips would fetch? My guess around £7m so he is a keeper for me.

8.) 24 May 2021 17:19:40
I don't see how anyone could doubt Nate Phillips abilities. He has shown in 20 league games that he has what it takes and at no time was he really exposed as not fit for purpose. Stick him beside Virgil for a few games and see how it goes especially with an operational midfield in front of them.
Why Liverpool are spending money they don't have on players they might not need when it could be used in other areas of the pitch is beyond me.

9.) 24 May 2021 17:56:29
I don’t see how Phillips hasn’t shown his worth. He’s never played in the prem and most of the time been the ‘most experienced’ centre half. He’s young, we can trust him and he’s not half bad! Typically we have been bad in the air, he’s good in the air. Say vvd got injured again. would you want Kabak and gomez or Phillips and Gomez. I know who I’d take. I don’t see any benefit of buying Kabak ad selling Phillips personally. Kabak is no quicker, not as good in the air and has a questionable history at best.

10.) 24 May 2021 18:01:03
I'd sell, unpopular opinion but i just don't think he's good enough. Eventually he will get found out and come in for dogs abuse on here. There was a time yesterday were trent gave the ball away to Townsend and Nat looked like he was in slow motion trying to catch him. When Virg/ Gomez returns we'll be defending near the halfway line and in that case Nat will get exposed big time.

11.) 25 May 2021 06:15:53
Gomez and Matip will miss 30-50% of games through injury. Nat Philip's should at least be given another season if he wants to stay as back up.

Suspect he will want regular games and that would mean move. And good luck to him if he does, he has been fantastic this season.

27 Jan 2019 21:52:05
Speculation that Liverpool has opened talks for Sandro Tonali. Reds scout has watched him in Brescia Spezia today. Cellino wants for the young midfielder (born in 2000) €35M. Any truths? Thanks as already Ed's for your fantastic work.

Mr K

1.) 27 Jan 2019 22:42:28
Nah. Not happening mate. Not buying this window.

{Ed0333's Note - the rumour is to buy him for next season not this.

2.) 27 Jan 2019 22:53:01
The lad was belting in my Footy Manager Liverpool team.

3.) 28 Jan 2019 01:21:52
Definitely signals the end for Lallana and Milner. And looks like Keita will be fighting with OX for the creative midfielder position while Fab, Hendo, Tonali and Gini will rotate for the deeper midfield positions.

4.) 28 Jan 2019 09:52:27
Surely if we are going for a midfielder. It has to be Adrian Rabiot. young, quality and a bargain buy.

5.) 28 Jan 2019 09:12:21
If we’re not buying anyone then when the incessant questions from you Virgil? It’s massively hypocritical of you.

6.) 28 Jan 2019 13:12:15
In response to Shaq Attack. I don’t constantly ask questions about bringing in players in this window. Ed’s has said over and over highly unlikely to bring anyone in this window as it could upset the apple cart and potentially up skittle a winning team. I am on here frequently as no doubt you are and I like many others look for information. Ed002 said last week our interest in this player had passed so I was pointing that out. Try to add something positive or constructive and not pull people up on things that are factual.

7.) 28 Jan 2019 13:49:51
How’s Rabiot a bargain buy? He will still command all expected as a free signing plus now there’s also an actual transfer fee of £20m, minimum.
I can’t imagine anyone unless desperate, would pay now £20m for three months of playing time rather then wait for the summer and no fee.

8.) 28 Jan 2019 14:27:14
Virgil, you are always asking for updates and that is a fact.

It’s just a bit rich of you to dismiss other people’s questions when it’s what you do on a regular basis.

9.) 28 Jan 2019 16:04:55
Rabiot might not command a transfer fee but he will be far from a bargain.

10.) 28 Jan 2019 16:29:48
Ok Shaq fair enough your opinion. Not after an argument. Like I say why not add something positive instead of pulling me or others up for our opinions.

11.) 28 Jan 2019 07:10:06
Ed33 would we buy now and loan back or wait till the summer.

{Ed0333's Note - no idea mate. I would assume if there’s any truth to the rumours that his team would hold out till the summer so there’s a bidding war.

12.) 28 Jan 2019 09:07:00
Ed0333 sorry mate was just going on what Ed002 said last week that our interest was a while ago and has ended.

{Ed0333's Note - Ed’s 002 is the oracle on all things transfer related. There’s not much he gets wrong so if he says our interest has gone I would take that as we’re not signing him.

Question for the Ed’s. Sometime ago there was talk of Trent migrating to a midfield role. Do you think that this could be a solution to the Gini problem this summer?

Mr K

{Ed001's Note - what Gini problem?} Become a Patron!

Dear Eds
With the Champaign’s league draw coming soon I wondered about how the governments 2 weeks isolation was going to impact here. Are football teams exempt from these rules? Thanks.

Mr K

{Ed002's Note - The rules have been relaxed to allow Champions League and Europa League teams to be exempt from travel quarantine rules. At least for now.}

1.) 01 Oct 2020 11:25:44
I can’t wait for the draw tonight. Hope we get a decent pathway out of the group, looking at the pots though I think it will be tough whoever we get.

2.) 01 Oct 2020 12:34:03
OP, sign me and my wife up for the Champaign's League anytime, bro.

3.) 01 Oct 2020 12:56:56
the g is nowhere near the o . sounds likes a Snoop Dogg tune!

4.) 01 Oct 2020 14:36:38
Champaign's league must be for the "elite" teams, which we aren't one of them. isn't that right Ed002 😜.

{Ed002's Note - There is an "elite" side meeting tomorrow.}

29 Aug 2019 11:44:59
Dear Eds

Klopp made comments today about the proposed breakaway league. I wondered if there has been any further discussions between clubs or any advancement on this.?

Thanks.

Mr K

{Ed002's Note - There is a meeting between the "elite" clubs to discuss it tomorrow morning.}

1.) 29 Aug 2019 12:28:44
is he coming out against it because he knows we won't be one of the clubs chosen to participate.

2.) 29 Aug 2019 14:10:11
Hi Ed002,

Are you able to confirm whether Liverpool are one of the "elite" clubs that will be attending tomorrow.

Many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool will not be there.]

3.) 29 Aug 2019 16:39:21
Aww we are not elite then😭😭😭😛.

4.) 29 Aug 2019 16:55:14
Most likely the Manchester clubs and Chelsea.

5.) 29 Aug 2019 17:23:17
Maybe another Champions League trophy might swing it! 😁.

6.) 29 Aug 2019 18:03:32
Correct me if I'm wrong Ed but I believe Liverpool are not there by their own choice.

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not the reason.}

7.) 29 Aug 2019 19:15:20
Ed2 is it we aren’t invited or have chosen not to attend?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not part of the group.}

8.) 29 Aug 2019 19:46:54
You can't have a new European league without the best team in Europe. We are not in the group as these discussions have been going on for years, when we were pretty useless.

If English teams win the finals again this year I would imagine there will be even more clamour for the new competition. A premier league with Celic and Rangers in would get better viewing figures than the new European league in my opinion.

9.) 29 Aug 2019 19:58:27
Mark, clearly you can.

10.) 29 Aug 2019 20:10:13
These are just discussions, by whatever criterea you use LFC will be invited to take part. Nike won't be paying £80m a year if we are not at the top table.

Who wants to see Juve v PSG evry few months? Take Ronaldo and Messi out of it in a few years and there is no point.

11.) 29 Aug 2019 20:11:02
oh no have we not been invited to play in the Mitsubishi Shield break away league that'll be held in pre season 2079? Gutted.

12.) 29 Aug 2019 20:17:09
Klopp clearly against it but is that his opinion or due to Liverpool not being at the group meeting? And please don’t tell me liverpool aren’t an elite club now though understand we have been in wilderness for many years but this competition can’t happen for a few years so I’d imagine we will be invited.

{Ed025's Note - im certain you will 1jj, but it will be the end of football as we know it mate, the gap between the have,s and have not,s will be even wider and the likes of bolton and bury now will be the southhapton,s and norwich,s in the future..

13.) 29 Aug 2019 20:35:13
Ed25 I’m with you on this. If it was up to me all clubs would have a level playing field spending cap but sadly capitalism doesn’t work that way!

{Ed025's Note - your right 1jj..

14.) 29 Aug 2019 19:41:35
Thanks ed2. Do you think that will ever change ie will we be invited in to the group or are we not interested?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are interested but there is no chance at this time.}

15.) 29 Aug 2019 23:26:42
Klopp may not be in favour of it now, but when he's managing Bayern in the break away league in a few years, I'm sure he'll be singing a different tune.

16.) 30 Aug 2019 00:35:49
I don’t think klopp will ever manage Bayern. He doesn’t really like them. It would kill his relationship with Dortmund. Can see him managing Germany one day though.

17.) 30 Aug 2019 06:19:43
I definately can't see him at bayern and I doubt Germany too as he's often stated he's an all or nothing guy. I wouldn't think international part time commitment would appeal to him.

If he was to take another job I'd predict he'd want a similar project like Dortmund Liverpool. A club looking to get back on top after falling behind, with full control and backing to do it his way. I can't picture him going to a club already dominant and lacking that challenge he seems to love. He could have chose probably any club instead of us that time when we were far from appealing. He loves the passion and heart of football so a team within the mould of us and Dortmund would be my guess.

18.) 30 Aug 2019 14:40:58
I hope it doesn't happen. I don't see the point of it (except in a financial way)
It makes the english and scottish leagues weaker. If wolves win the english league when all the top teams are gone, it takes away from the glory.

Is there a promotion/ relegation angle to it? There must be. Also, is it only European teams?

19.) 30 Aug 2019 15:22:28
I think klopp is the next germany manager. If i worked for the german fa i would be working towards it.

And i imagine, after years managing at the top level of club football, especially in england where the press are crazy, that the international job would be quite appealing.

20.) 30 Aug 2019 21:17:41
I see your logic Robbie but I just don't think klopps persona would make it appealing to him. Same with guardiola wouldn't seem like an international manager. It's a job that doesn't require the constant focus, dedication, obsession and commitment that klopp or pep both show as traits.

Couldn't see klopp taking on a job where he can't fully immerse himself on a regular basis. He's even said lately his work needs to be all in or nothing at all, no in between.

Listened to a mourinho interview lately where he said international offers don't appeal to him for the same reasons, . It's a job you see many veteran managers in 60s or 70s in charge as it's more suitable slow paced demands. Klopp still pretty young, full of energy and in his prime in regards of reputation as one of if not the worlds best manager. International role would be odd for his next move, maybe later in his career.

16 Aug 2017 21:01:04
Hi Eds

Not asking about the Coutinho itself but do you know if it's true that he has told Klopp that he will not play again?

Thanks guys great work as always

Mr K.

Mr K

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

1.) 17 Aug 2017 08:38:09
The same media outlet reported that couts will sign for Barcelona in the next few hours. . which was sometime last week or the week before that.

05 Jan 2016 22:48:44
Question for the Eds. With Kolo are only fit center back where do we stand in terms of recalling Ilori from Aston Villa. Do you see this as an option?

Mr K

{Ed002's Note - Well they don't want the Messiah.}

1.) 05 Jan 2016 22:58:18
Hes not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

2.) 05 Jan 2016 23:28:06
I thought we had recalled Illori?

3.) 05 Jan 2016 23:50:01
All I said it was good enough for Jojoba.

4.) 06 Jan 2016 00:23:30
From what I've read, I'm led to believe illori will be returning, not sure if it will work out. Lot of people have been wanting him to play for a while now, myself included, just concerned with the lack of game time he has had and the fact he hasn't even been around our squad a whole lot, but there's only one way to find out if he will make it and I'm looking forward to seeing what he has to offer. Not saying he will be brilliant but if he can give consistent, solid 6/ 10-7/ 10 performances for a month or 2 then that's going to take some pressure off and give us another option, let's just hope that's the way it goes.

5.) 06 Jan 2016 21:34:13

Not to be the party pooper. Ed002 said an offer has been made. He didn't say it has been accepted! ED002 do you have any view if the offer made is acceptable? Thanks.

Mr K

{Ed002's Note - Porto have not said anything that I am aware of but one of three player representatives involved has said something which means agreement can be reached.}

EDs, are you aware of any discussions on going about a replacement for Klopp. As the owners knew since November and the announcement today I wondered if there has been any?
