Hi Eds,

With the chances of Sterling leaving increasing, are we likely to revisit Konoplyanka? I presume Pedro is still not viable?

Cheers

Kiddfan

{Ed001's Note - so far we have shown no signs of resurrecting the Kono deal.}

1.) 13 Jun 2015 14:16:11
I don't understand why not. How can he be identified as a top player one minute and then not good enough the next minute eds? As a free signing it's a no brainer even if sterling stays.

I agree with other posters, we should not let the two late goals overshadow a phenomenal performance! So many wonderful performances!

Ed001- with Ox injury looking bad, hendovand Milner picking up yellows (if I saw correctly), we are suddenly very thin in the middle of the park, with 4 big games to go. any chance of Can or Lallana being fit in next couple of weeks? Could we recall Grujic if required? If not who would you see us trying to slot in there if required?

Still buzzing!

Cheers!

Kiddfan

{Ed001's Note - no chance and no we can't. We could put a few of the younger players in, though the yellows are irrelevant in the league anyway. Remember there is a 2 week gap between the final Prem game and the CL Final (if we get there) for players to rest.}

1.) 25 Apr 2018 07:58:45
Only Lovren, Henderson and Arnold were booked.

Plus Juan and Fazio for Roma of course.

2.) 25 Apr 2018 08:29:04
So if one of the above pick up a second yellow in the 2nd leg then they would miss the final?

Hey Ed001

I know you have commented on Can a fair bit, but if I understood correctly his big requirement was guarantees around starting, and playing in a settled role. If that's the case, do you think the fact he is starting all games may give him the comfort so he reconsiders his position and signs new deal? Or does he think he can get a big move?

I agree with your assessment of him Ed, in that he has been immense over the last 12 months and I don't understand why we aren't giving him the warm feeling he needs. he always seems to get in well with Klopp at full time etc.

Got to be honest, I would see him signing a new deal as far better news than any signing right now. Is there any grounds for optimism or should we interpret Keita news as our resignation that Can will just run his contract down?

Kiddfan

1.) 28 Aug 2017 18:02:07
I don't think anyone should get guaranteed playing time. Surely that is earned on a weekly basis.

2.) 28 Aug 2017 18:02:28
I think we all also underestimate the importance of winning titles and trophies to a lot of these players. It's just an ego thing, and nothing wrong with it since it is a competitive sport after all. It's no coincidence that he's talking to Juventus, leader of the pack in Italy. I'll bet you anything that if we won the title this year, won also one of the cups and went up to the semis in the Champions League, Mr. Can's stubborn posture will appear to soften a bit.

{Ed025's Note - yeah ra, liverpool do a league and cup double, then we find out katie price is a virgin, john bishop becomes funny and adele wins slimmer of the year..

3.) 28 Aug 2017 19:33:38
You start drinking way too early in the day, Ed025. Bad for the liver and kidneys. And makes the head see everything in shades of blue. 😝.

{Ed025's Note - some of the pages do drive me to drink ra...and i have never really thanked them mate.. :)

Not Liverpool, but.

Watching "The Debate" on Sky.

Alan Pardew is talking about Lukaku and how José spent nearly £100m on him. then goes on to say "Jose has bet his house in him. "

All I can think is how behind the times Pardew is. a few years back managers may have bet a house on strikers, but these days they are betting an exclusive housing estate . £100m . betting the house.

Blimey!

Apology/ confession

I have a 7 year old son who has had the joy of coming to4 games at Anfield with me. Only problem is . Every time he comes it is 0-0! hull, Bolton, Blackburn and now West Ham!

I know I should stop taking him but I am desperate for him to see a goal ( so is he)! With 10 mins to go against Bolton he looked at me with big eyes and said "will I never see a goal" at which point I was nearly over the hoardings to try myself!

But at least yesterday I made £100 on backing 0-0! Would be up £100k if I had backed that for each of the four games and rolled it over.

Will let you know next time he comes, firstly so you can avoid watching the game, and second so you can put your mortgage on 0-0!

But, as a dad as much as I fancy rolling the £100 over I would love for him to share the excitement of a good game and a goal!

Good stuff mate, you made me smile. And sorry for the kid, is he still an LFC supporter?

2.) 31 Jan 2016 14:14:17
I had 4 2-0 wins in a row once back in the day.
But the last 2 times have been 0-0 for me as well actually. : (
Really want a mad one like that Norwich game.

Sorry if I have missed an injury, but is there a reason why Lucas doesn't even make the bench?

A few of those who haven't made the squad today are a bit of a concern.

Probably the same reason he didn't beginning of last season either.

Many thanks Ed001. I had a feeling you had said something along those lines, but I am getting older and my memory is going. Good to hear your view, I appreciate it!

Kiddfan

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate. I really rate him, he does have the modern keeper's obsession with a punch rather than a catch, but they all do that. His reflexes are lightning.}

Sorry Ed001. I get quite a few hits when I search for Alisson. so I have tried to RTFP. Can I ask (although i am sure others have already. sorry), what is your view on Alisson? Is he a step up from Karius/ Ward, could he be the answer? Would there be someone else you would prefer?

Kiddfan

{Ed001's Note - you obviously haven't read much I was saying last season then! Alisson is a quality keeper with the potential to be the best in the world.}

Ed, would Grujic be on loan or permanent?

Kiddfan

{Ed001's Note - either is possible right now. He and his family are unhappy with the way he is being handled.}

Ed002. please don't shoot.

Do you know that Edwards was unaware, or do you know that Henry made the contact personally? They are two very different things of course.

If I were Edwards I would be more than a little pissed if the owner made a decision about something clearly in my remit, without discussing it. That in most circles would be considered poor management (I am not saying it doesn't happen, but it would likely erode trust with Edwards) .

On the other hand, if Henry and Edwards discussed it, and agreed that the only way to get it done without risk of it blowing up, was for Henry to handle it directly with Southampton ownership, then that would be quite understandable. It is not uncommon for contacts to be made directly between principals to "get things done", but if it were done without synchronising with Edwards first that would be interesting, and may give Edwards cause for concern.

Genuinely interested to understand whether we know whether it is one or the other (retreating to bomb shelter. )

{Ed002's Note - FSG dealt with the transfer from Boston and those in London did not. It is simple, try not to make a big deal of it.}

I think this sounds legit. whether we want to believe aspects of it or not.

Vvd wants to join Liverpool. I think that is public knowledge, but I also have that from another source that I trust and who has direct contacts to vvd.

Klopp wants vvd! We know this from what went on earlier in the summer, and from the fact that we didn't sign any old CB. Klopp wants vvd, and is prepared to wait for him rather than sign just anyone at CB, otherwise we would have bought someone at CB as money is not an issue right now.

So all it comes down to is politics. FSG apologised and don't want to renege on that. But once a market emerges for vvd they will go back in. Likely that will be January.

So regardless of decorators or not, I would expect us to pursue vvd in January if a market emerges. Even if it doesn't, fsg may decide that 6 months is long enough to flagilate ourselves.

Eds I know we have made serious missteps with vvd (and others from what you say) but business is business and I fully expect we will go for vvd in January (just as I expect Barcelona will. E back for Courinho. )

I think he can do a job for us! Has ability, and Klopp seems to get people working, so this could be a steal. Really wanted him to sign 4 years ago.

I didn't hear the chant directed at Evra, but I thought chanting Suarez' name was too much.

Suarez was/ is a wonderful player, but we all know he has/ had a dark side. He was found guilty of the offence with Evra and of course a few others. I think he falls neatly into the flawed genius category.

So, whilst I would like to think that the Evra incident was a heat of the moment thing, it happened, it was completely unacceptable, and we should accept that. Boo Evra all we like for being a Manc, but to celebrate Suarez at the same time is a little tone deaf in the current climate. Also, how do we think young Brewster feels if he hears our fans celebrating Suarez in such a way.

Think Liverpool fans are best in the world, but that was a little tone deaf yesterday. I have no problem continuing to idolise Suarez the player, but please not when Evra is on the park!

YNWA.

Look I hated watching that 2nd half, and I don't deny that I wanted to see a lot more fight. I would have been okay going down to 9 if we had shown some fight.

But I think we all need to settle down. Two down and down to ten the game was over. And I think the team were probably very flat after what happened. But whatever way you look at it, I kinda think that Juergen started looking at Wednesday from half time. He gave up the game as gone, probably rightly, and brought off Salah, and then Giji and Roberto probably to rest them ahead of Wednesday. As fans we probably hate it, because we want the team to fight and fight for each game, but I figure Juergen has to look st things a lot more coldly than we do, and he knew the race was run and he had to look ahead to Sevilla!

So I hated that second half, but dispassionately Juergen probably made the right call from a coldly practical viewpoint whether we as fans like it or not!

Bad day at the office, but let's take the roof of on Wednesday night!

Hi Ed001,

Realistically do you think there is a chance Can might stay, or has that ship sailed so to speak?

I will be gutted if he goes, as I think he is developing into a real quality midfielder.

Thanks for all your insights as ever!

KF.

Kiddfan

{Ed001's Note - there is always a chance but it is unlikely. He was keen to leave for Juve in the summer but we rejected their bid. I believe he has made his mind up to leave. There are still a few months left to persuade him though.}

Ed, sorry I was not suggesting that you were saying that they were no value, that was my interpretation from you saying"ignore the contract". Also my comment was not suggesting anything strange is going on here it is universal, and to me vvd is the same (and no doubt many more), so this is in no way me playing a poor old Liverpool card, I think the power balance seems a little lopsided at the moment, and players sign long and lucrative contracts and want to leave 5 minutes later.

I understand by one of your other responses that the reason that the contract has no relevance in your view, is because the owners will either sell, or they won't and therefore his contract is not relevant. That makes perfect sense from a completely objective perspective. However it appears that it is not that simple, because players these days seem to agitate for moves more, behave shall we say "interestingly" if they don't get their way. don't train properly, and even refuse to play (or even return to the country) . Worse is the suggestion (not from you) that many of them are "advised" to behave a certain way to get what they want.

Honestly not suggesting the Pipco situation is in any way abnormal, if anything it is becoming sadly too common.

In your view did players always do this, but it was less visible to fans before 24 hour multi-platform news, or is it as it seems a more recent phenomena?

Kiddfan

{Ed002's Note - It is common for players to want to move on.}
