Hi ED002, thanks as always for your nicely detailed update on potential transfer names. May I ask if there has been any bid from Liverpool for Saul since your update? A 'not so reliable' media outlet is reporting a bid. I'm sure its BS but wanted to check with you in any case. Many thanks!

KPee

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any change in the situation. Saul Niguez (CM) Nobody will pay his release clause, but Atletico could look to a very high fee for a player who has a contract that runs for years in order to get his €300k weekly wage off the books. Bayern Munich's first choice to add for midfield and his agent has spoken with several sides as Atletico want to make very significant savings on salaries and could be forced into a corner by the player and his agent. But Bayern see his cash price at €60M (or €75M on terms) and wages of €300k as too high and will want to negotiate - they will almost certainly turn elsewhere. He is being offered to the usual suspects who have money – Barcelona (who would need to include players in a deal), Manchester United (who would need to offload Pogba), Juventus, Manchester City, PSG, Chelsea as a Kovacic replacement - many of which are looking to add a player in his position, but his wages are a major issue for most. Atletico have effectively signed his replacement in de Paul but may make other midfield changes as well. I am not aware of any bid from Liverpool to Atletico at this time, but he would be an excellent choice, but a lot more expensive than other options. Atletico have said that there has been a discussion with Barcelona. It is difficult to second guess what will happen. I think Barcelona will push for some sort of package deal including other players and cash. Atletico would prefer the cash. Other clubs could become involved if players are sold, Pogba for instance.}

Is Saul all that, just don’t get it. Only my opinion.

2.) 13 Jul 2021 20:51:00
Acered Saul is friggin brilliant mate! There’s no way that all the clubs named above would be interested if he wasn’t. I would hate for Man U to get him if am honest.

3.) 13 Jul 2021 21:19:19
Thanks for that ED002. Although money is extremely tight, hopefully some player sales can help finance a move. He seems a decent player and what we need.

4.) 14 Jul 2021 18:33:37
Acered, Saul is pure filth. An absolute baller. Tielemans is nowhere near this guy. Normally we are not interested in players like him due to his wages BUT he has been made available so it is only normal we explore it.

He signed a 9 yr deal at AM for a reason. They made sure no one would b able to get him at the time. Obviously things have changed financially for all clubs so AM are willing to let him go in order to save wages.

Controversial post incoming.
Based on the game yesterday (apart from 20mins 2nd half) was the the first time I would question desire and attitude of the players. This is a very dangerous time now. The players are rock bottom in terms of confidence, have lost faith in the tactics and are not now willing to put a shift in.
As Ljinders is the one the one holding the reins, I could guess that it's his influence that is not working. Possibly players have voiced concerns to Klopp and nothing much has been done. We see the results of that on the field. This is all guessing on my part but this is generally what tends to happen. The upshot as we know is that the buck rests with Klopp and what he decides next.

KPee

1.) 05 Feb 2023 12:19:20
Klopp looks fed up tho he are clearly getting to him. It’s weird to see the man lose his cool when he has the power to improve fortunes. People can argue about investment etc which is a valid point, but the players we have are not playing to their ability. It seems to all be falling apart behind the scenes.

2.) 05 Feb 2023 12:33:50
Spot on, OP. The whole lack of investments schtick is a mythe royally debunked by the report that came out last week or so saying LFC were 3rd in player investment in the calendar year of 2022 alone.

Also, I have no idea how anyone with any common sense could say a lack of investment leads to a distinct lack of effort on the pitch from players on big wages. Sorry, that is hogwash esp since we are top 3 in wage bills in the PL.

If the players have downed tools fir whatever reason then, something MUST give. It’s either they leave or the coaching staff leaves. Not sure how this is going to play out.

3.) 05 Feb 2023 12:37:26
He looks more than fed up. He looks tired and unwell.

4.) 05 Feb 2023 12:54:14
I wouldn’t believe that report Oli. Still trying to work that out ?.

5.) 05 Feb 2023 13:20:40
I wonder if, and when, Klopp does leave / retire just how much of the back room staff will go as well.
It’s my impression that much of the current set-up was put together by Klopp.

I read an interesting article recently about FSG’s sports model, equating what has happened in US baseball with our PL.
The Red Sox went from World Series winners to finishing bottom as their analytical, self-sustainable spending model was out-done by a huge spending Boehly, distorting values in the player market and making ‘value for money’ increasingly difficult to achieve.
Boehly has certainly started in this vein at Chelsea, Fernandez was rated in the £40 - 60 million bracket at the start of the World Cup.
There is no way, in my view, that Bellingham will be signed by Liverpool at anything near £150 million.
The problem is that Boehly might or at least he’s distorted the market so that someone will have to.
It makes a rebuild at Liverpool difficult.
All this “needs a clear out” has massive implications at all levels.

6.) 05 Feb 2023 13:22:30
It doesn't look the players have downed tools though. We have see
players down tools before and we look nothing close to that. They just look bereft of confidence and are second guessing themselves.

7.) 05 Feb 2023 14:02:32
Klopp questioned the desire and attitude of the players after the first game v Fulham. But it was his job to change that and for whatever reason we are still questioning the hunger and desire of the players.

8.) 05 Feb 2023 14:46:52
Mark, I couldn't recall Klopp saying that and I thought I missed it. But reading the report again, Klopp said nothing of that sort. He just said that we played a bad game, that we didn't move the ball fast enough or precise enough. That's it. He didn't question the player's attitudes and desires. I'm not sure how you arrived at that conclusion.

9.) 05 Feb 2023 20:01:10
DR, he made it up in his mind. Feel like some fans just want Klopp out and this is the best time. Some may be trolls but many so called fans as well. Its rather sad but hey that's modern football for you.

10.) 05 Feb 2023 20:09:46
Dracred confidence is believing in your own ability and there is loads of ability in our squad.
I can't believe 10 to 12 players have lost confidence in their own ability together at once .
I believe it is down to money and what Mo received in his new contract. If you were a player on 100 grand a week and your team mate is getting 350,000 per week would you break your town halls?

11.) 05 Feb 2023 20:45:10
Oli Red a myth (which is the spelling) . It’s a compendium of years and years lack of investment. Top teams replenish each year to stay fresh and motivated. Our sell to buy model isn’t working. They did the same to Rodgers, the difference is Klopp’s class has shrouded their poor off field activity. F$G are happy to turn up when we’re winning but they refuse to face the music now.

08 Feb 2022 22:00:47
It would be interesting to see who would win in a sprint: Salah, Robbo or Diaz. Any thoughts?

KPee

1.) 08 Feb 2022 22:05:17
Robbo wouldn't stand a chance 😂 doubt he'd even put himself in that company.

Virgil, Konate, Mane and Gomez would probably run Salah/ Diaz close though.

2.) 08 Feb 2022 22:07:50
Joe Gomez.

3.) 08 Feb 2022 22:08:53
Apparently, Diaz hit 35.5 mph. Salah was 33mph. don't know if is true.

4.) 08 Feb 2022 22:23:47
Highest speeds recorded by Liverpool players this season

35.5 km/ h Diaz
33.2 km/ h Salah
32.3 km/ h Mane
32.3 km/ h Jota.

5.) 08 Feb 2022 22:39:04
If players are hitting 35mph they'll be getting speeding tickets.

6.) 08 Feb 2022 22:41:11
Most interviews with the players when asked is Gomez and VVD are rapid.

7.) 08 Feb 2022 23:39:57
My money is on Gomez.

8.) 09 Feb 2022 03:18:19
They would also be Olympic sprint champions too Flash 😁😁

I think IDream got in right with kms/ h.

9.) 09 Feb 2022 09:17:18
For perspective Usain bolt hit 44.72 on his way to his WR.

10.) 09 Feb 2022 10:02:19
Mane was asked the question once and said virg wins over 100m but him or salah over a shirt distance. Was before konate and Diaz joined though tbf.

11.) 09 Feb 2022 10:20:43
Yep, confirm on the mph vs km/ h, definitely the latter! Usain Bolt didn't even hit 30mph during a 100m, I think he peaked around 27/ 28 mph IIRC.

Not sure who'd win in a race, but Milly would be the only one still sprinting 4 hours later ;-)

12.) 09 Feb 2022 12:32:54
Robbo would win an 800m sprint or like if they were doing lots of 100m sprints. I think that guy could probably sprint all day lol.

13.) 09 Feb 2022 14:41:09
Regarding Mane's comment about either him or Salah would win over a short distance; that says to me that Salah is the quickest.
If he was that confident about being quicker than Salah there would be no 'or' 😆.

14.) 08 Feb 2022 23:39:57
My money is on Gomez.

15.) 09 Feb 2022 17:24:26
Deffo kmh not mph. Usain Bolt hit 27.78 mph which is the fastest ever by a human.

16.) 09 Feb 2022 20:18:57
Jan Molby used to hit 40mph but that was through the canteen.

17.) 09 Feb 2022 21:06:05
In his car, while blind drunk.

As I write this, i see that Arsenal are beating City. I will not watch on TV as whenever I do City seem to conjure a win!

Being helped along by a useless ref Barry. Never a pen, and really a second yellow for sending off? Arsenal are being done here.

Hi ED001, hope you are doing good man. I wanted to ask you if you think in light of the various muscle issues this season whether Klopp and his staff may decide to change their style to become even more conservative than was the case? Appreciate this season has been like no other and mentally and physically they have been suffering. Also, it would be interesting to see what other learnings do you feel Klopp can take from this season? For me I would start to look at improving the squad players and have a plan for moving on the more injury prone players. Thanks in advance.

KPee

{Ed001's Note - most of it stems from the lack of proper preparation, not really the style of play. Look at Newcastle, they play a very conservative style under Bruce but are suffering just as badly. So the style of play would not have mattered.

I do think Klopp will be looking at who he can rely on and who he can't. There is no point having players like Matip and Keita in the squad as they are never there when needed.

Most of the changes are within the rehab dept really, with the new fella. There is not a lot that can be done with the rest when there is so little training time available to work on anything. That is why I could not understand why people kept calling for changes, when were the team meant to work on a new formation or style of play?}

Thanks Ed. Appreciate your response.

Thst is the same list I had in mind too pretty much. Another potential for the list could be the Ox. He has also been unfortunate with injuries. I'm sure they will be thinking of 'lightening' the injury prone player's list and at the same time the wage bill. Just my thoughts and happy to be proved wrong. I like the Ox. He always gives 100% and seems a good professional. But he may be a victim of some tough decisions.

Just an out there conspiracy theory, but perhaps there was a side discussion between Klopp and Hendo due to injury issues of late to 'push the issue' of coming off in the second half. Hopefully it was all precautionary and he will line up against Leicester.

Couldn't agree more! The new way of playing is almost like let's purposely f*** up what we spent years building. I can only think that there is a directive from the medical team to play with this reduced intensity 'heavy metal' football where even Klopp us not able to dispute.

I think Real are a good experienced team and know how to win games. I wouldn't say they are anything special by any means. This season we have made teams look better than what they are by the poor performances (versus our standards of last season) .

Hi Ed002,

Hope you are good.

Apologies in advance if you had covered previously. In terms of being put up for sale, Liverpool had announced this first, then shortly after Man Utd followed suit. Was this a coincidence or was it that the Man Utd owners thought it would be a good time to compete with Liverpool for potential suitors as it was in the pipeline in any case? It's surprising to hear they are ahead of Liverpool in the process as we announced before them but I guess it's not as straightforward as that.
Good to get your thoughts as always on such matters to educate me. Thanks.

KPee

{Ed002's Note - Not it was no more than a co-incidental timing.}
