Rumour that Newcastle willing to pay big money for Harvey Elliott. Not sure if it’s April fools or genuine.

Trent’s a really talented guy, very good player at his best.

Three or four years ago when he and Robbo were in their prime they redefined the fullback role for us where they became the main source of assists. We haven’t had a better attacking duo in the last twenty years even if defensively they’ve been lacking for parts of this season and last.

Part of that’s tactics, part of its been form and injuries. It’s a shame we didn’t get a fee to help the rebuild, but that’s how RM work and he may not have got the move without it.

I don’t put him in the same bracket as others who’ve left on frees before, I get why he’d go. But I wouldn’t say he’s quite the great either.

I say good luck to him genuinely, it should be a great life experience and place to play football for him.

J1970 is spot on in terms of how this has played out in the last twelve / eighteen months though. Once it gets to that stage and a contract is offered it’s the players decision not to sign, it’s not on the club .

Even if we’d tried to sell at that stage RM and Trent would have driven down the fee to derisory levels, or waited it out. We perhaps could have offered a deal two years ago, or a longer deal originally but it’s all ifs and buts now.

Szob has had a very good season, but like others I’m not sure what his best position is, or where he's played for previous clubs or internationally. General view is that Mac should be the 10 with Szob deeper but two top class coaches have now played them the other way around. It’s probably because Szob hasn’t got the discipline to play deep, but is great at pressing further up the field. I don’t think we have the solution in the squad, which is a more physical centre mid. We could then rotate Szob and Mac at 10 depending on opposition.

Interesting comments from Arne in his press conference. Among other things he seemed to suggest Trent’s future isn’t sorted. I’d take that as a positive as I’d assumed like most people his future was decided, and it must be elsewhere otherwise it would have been announced.

I would have thought we’d look for a free transfer utility option that can play right back and other positions, with Connor as first choice.

The experiments with Quansah and Jones haven’t really worked, Jo Gomez has been better there when fit so could do a job depending on his injury status.

I’m sure many rival club supporters can’t believe we’re winning the league again, it’s a shame for them that they’ve performed so badly this season. It’s an even bigger shame they have to come on here telling us about it.

I’d happily take a few tickets and push that up to 6002! That’s crazy, and I’m even surprised at the Everton number. I would have thought it’d be about 60/ 70% local for both clubs, with over 1m in the city region those figs are really low.

{Ed025's Note - yeah JS i would have guessed in that region mate, it just shows you how much its changed in recent years, a lot will be down to cost i imagine..
