Not saying it's true but read reports we are actively seeking to seal a deal for Upermecano now for his release clause of 36.5.
Apparently we want it done so he can move on 1st January, not saying it's true but that's what I have read. Anyone know if there is any truth to this?
I wouldn't mind him to be honest and I personally think it will be one of Upermecano, Carlos, Kabak or White.
1.) 22 Oct 2020 20:58:56
Seeing as the release clause comes into effect next summer I doubt we’d be getting that.
2.) 22 Oct 2020 22:26:42
Release clauses have no relevancy to English clubs. Could bid £100m and the offer still be rejected.
3.) 22 Oct 2020 22:01:50
Are you sure it's TRUE?
4.) 22 Oct 2020 22:05:46
Release clauses usually mean very little for prem clubs it prob only applies to German teams. Seems to low to be true.
5.) 23 Oct 2020 10:38:44
No chance of Upamecano. Why do people act as if VVD has died? He will be back next season.
If money is an issue, look for better value in the market like Konate or Ndicka. Less over hyped players that will be worth way more in the next 12 months.
6.) 23 Oct 2020 11:17:51
Because buzzer without vvd we will struggle to make a challenge on most fronts this season we need a decent first choice defender to see the season out from January onwards.
Klopp wanted a CB but chose against signing one so I’m guessing he will be pressing the Howard for more money to get his first choice. Don’t be surprised if we go for Carlos.
{Ed002's Note - It has been a bit of a shock to find out that not every Liverpool player is world class then - and it seems you now all think it is pretty much a one horse club.}
7.) 23 Oct 2020 11:52:24
Give Gomez and Matip a chance, if were a few points clear by Xmas a lot of people will have calmed down. can't see us splashing if were in a position where we could win the league without reinforcements.
8.) 23 Oct 2020 13:11:17
Jason, we definitely need a CB without doubt. We cannot last the season with only Matip and Gomez.
But asking for the likes of Upamecano is just some fans being spoilt. Vvd will be back for next season and what we need to look for in January is a cost effective and hungry CB looking to take the next step in his career. Upamecano may be most of those things but we will simply be tempting a bidding war with the like is Barcelona and Man Utd who are both apparently very interested in him.
Like I mentioned earlier, there are some high potential quality young CBs like Ndicka that can be bought for a fraction of what Upamecano would cost and are of similar quality or will be if coached properly.
9.) 23 Oct 2020 13:33:19
Pretty sure Man City missed Laporte last season and that's with other £30/ £50 million players to chose fromðŸ‘.
10.) 23 Oct 2020 14:03:57
Spot on buzzer.
11.) 23 Oct 2020 15:43:52
Not a one horse club at all Ed002 but it takes class all over the pitch to compete and at cb he was our class the front 3 are still world class the full backs are still world class, the sheer amount of games means you need it everywhere but who am I to deny you your daily pop at the reds 😂😂.
12.) 23 Oct 2020 17:58:57
Carlos is the only one who's stats stack up. check out sam mcguire's articles on the candidates.
13.) 23 Oct 2020 18:37:32
Don’t think Ed002 was having a pop at the club more the fickle fans who claimed we have world class players all over the pitch who are now claiming the worlds about to end. VVD is a stallion though.
14.) 23 Oct 2020 19:14:53
Alisson is should be back at the weekend so I’m sure Matip, Gomez and Fab can hold the shop til VVD comes back.
15.) 23 Oct 2020 21:09:35
Vvd was not in form and wasn’t for a while needs to use the time to actually watch the game.
16.) 23 Oct 2020 23:46:48
Fuser how did Arsenal triggered the release clause of Thomas P from At Madrid?
{Ed002's Note - You need to search and then perhaps you will understand.}
17.) 24 Oct 2020 08:00:05
We will miss Van Dyke of course. Despite comments here, we are still very lucky to have a team mixture that is made up of experience, world class skill, very hard working team players and a wonderful set of exceptionally talented young players.
The world class players at present I would class as:
Alisson
Van Dyke
Trent
Robertson
Thiago
Fabhino
Mane
Firminho
Salah
Closely followed by
Henderson
Wynaldum
Jota
Keita
Gomez
Shaqiri
Minamino
Origi
Milner
Matip
Tsimikas
Ox
Plus our youngsters
Jones
Rhys Williams
Neco Williams
Billy the Kid
Nat phillips
Van set Berg
Kelleher
Oh yes, we have a great squad, great manager and a bright future. Hang on for the ride, it's going to be exciting.
18.) 24 Oct 2020 01:31:32
Hi Ed002 I’ve tried searching before and again just now and anytime I do most articles just says how Arsenal went in with a lower offer to start with and couldn’t get the player. They then triggered the release clause and got their man not that At Madrid we’re happy about it.
That’s why I was curious as fuser said a release clause has no relevance to English clubs but it did when it came to Arsenal getting Thomas Partey.
{Ed002's Note - Because he was playing in Spain where the rules are different. I have explained that on the site numerous times.}
19.) 24 Oct 2020 10:12:06
Cheers Ed002 I Put his name in the search bar and couldn’t see anything like that.
Cheers for letting me know. I now know basically you can meet a release clause in Spain and it’s excepted but rules are different in Germany and a release clause is only any use to German clubs and not else where.
Thanks mate have a good one.
{Ed002's Note - Try searching on termination.}
20.) 24 Oct 2020 11:12:23
We went into this season a senior centre back short. Fans were concerned by this but thought this could possibly be rectified in Jan. However, the situation now is that we have 2 senior centre backs and a midfielder who is quite adept at playing centre back. Very reminiscent of City’s predicament last year. This is going to be the most intense season yet with the condensed fixture list and one of our remaining centre backs (Matip) in injury prone so it’s hardly unsurprising for supporters to wonder how we’ll cope and think it’s a good idea to bring in a new centre back in Jan.
21.) 24 Oct 2020 12:38:31
I still don't understand why we need to buy in January. That's why we have the youth system to suppliment when necessary. Williams and Phillips need to be given the opportunity to prove themselves in my opinion. Plus Phillips is home grown. Save the money and use the system as it is intended.
22.) 24 Oct 2020 15:55:09
I can see were you are coming from Stone, but its quite possible that both Gomez and Matip will be out injured and we will be stretched at the back,
for me, I think that we now need one more centre back, 3 have been mentioned recently but Upacamano would be my choice, great defender and only 21 yrs old,
Ed says that he can play on the left and right side,
again, funds might be a bit low, so maybe not .
23.) 24 Oct 2020 18:04:21
Cheers Ed002.
24.) 25 Oct 2020 12:41:54
“ I still don't understand why we need to buy in January. â€
We went into the season a senior centre back short. We now have 2 senior centre backs, one of them is injury prone and we are playing in a condensed, more intense season is probably the response.
Nat Philips wouldn’t be here if an appropriate price had been received so I guess he’s been assessed as not being up to standard.
Rhys Williams was playing non league football 7 months ago so I’d imagine he’s been deemed not ready to start week in week out for one of the top teams in world football now.
25.) 26 Oct 2020 17:43:03
but no one is suggesting that r williams, or billk k would be needed "to start week in week out". There's plenty of options before that scenario. Why buy someone in Jan who will be with us for 4/ 5 years, on 100K a week when VVD might be back in 8 months. Matip might be back next week and could be fit, in great form for the whole season.
Lets not be so reactionary and instead trust that the club finds another solution. Kompany was a DCM before being moved back by City and it worked out well for them, plus fabs being back there gives Jones more opportunities which we all wanted for him too.
Just my opinion.
26.) 28 Oct 2020 13:08:03
Who are all these options that can play “week in week out†when required?
Matip is injury prone.
Even if he returns next week he’ll still be injury prone.
His entire career with us is littered with injuries.
He can’t play 3 games a week which is exactly what we’ll be doing for most of this season.
It’s not reactionary to think we should have 4 senior centre backs so that when 1 or 2 aren’t fit we have options.
11 Oct 2020 13:21:29
I know we aren't moving for Butland this window but I'm reading he is out of contact at the end of this season. Would it be feasible to agree a move then?
I only ask as I think this would be Adrian's last season with us so we may need another number two at this point.
He's still only 27 as well which surprised me.
{Ed002's Note - I would have thought that Liverpool could look to their well thought of younger goalkeepers as a number two rather than a Stoke City reserve. As such I really can't help with what will happen with him next season.}
1.) 11 Oct 2020 15:13:06
Completely agree Ed, we have Grabara and Keheller, not to mention a number of others who should be able to step in.
If they aren’t at that level then we should allow them to move on.
Butland was a decent young, and importantly, English keeper who we were interested a while ago but I don’t believe it is the case anymore.
2.) 11 Oct 2020 22:26:09
Ideal if their ready to be not at a top club. With Adrian out if contract in the summer id be amazed. If an experienced not never came in. Look at our rivals. Man utd- De gea, Henderson and Romero. City- Ederson, Bravo? And Carson. Chelsea- Mendy, Kepa and Caballero! Obviously utd and Chelsea will be looking to move 1 of their's on in the summer id imagine. But will still be left with 2 established goalkeeper's.
3.) 12 Oct 2020 08:09:18
Yet all those clubs have inferior defensive records to ours despite us spending more time without our no.1 available. Caballero and bravo have been very poor and error prone when used so it's not like those clubs have a successful blueprint that we need to match as it's not shown to give them any advantage over us to date.
4.) 12 Oct 2020 03:16:25
I would have thought that myself ed. Why give Kelleher those mins in the cup last season to be replaced this year?
How's Liverpool's gk coach these days? Still a good lad? lol.
02 Jul 2020 11:22:48
Ed's
Could I ask if Fekir is still considered a viable option, even after that happened a couple of years ago?
Just wondered if the club still seen him as an option, especially now that he is with a different club so no Alaus .
{Ed001's Note - we dropped all interest. It would be very surprising if we now saw him as an option.}
1.) 02 Jul 2020 14:11:33
Cheers Ed.
25 Jan 2020 09:21:16
I'm assuming the reported 47 million bid for Isco which has reportedly been rejected is bull?
{Ed002's Note - Is Isco a Havertz replacement.}
1.) 25 Jan 2020 11:21:53
i read we have moved on to fabion ruiz after isco bid rejected.
17 Jun 2019 09:15:03
Hi Ed's just wanted to ask has there been any new developments in Clyne at all?
{Ed001's Note - not that I know of. I had expected him to make the loan permanent, but they are having a rethink due to his lifestyle.}
1.) 17 Jun 2019 09:38:53
Saw him stocking up on pizzas and junk in Waitrose by ours with his boys. Clearly living his best life!
2.) 17 Jun 2019 10:20:12
He got the munchies!
3.) 17 Jun 2019 10:36:17
Should have never signed him. The Southampton defence at the time before he moved made him look good.
He is just costing the club more and more money the longer he stays on.
We would be better off terminating his contract and pay what is due to him as he is on holday at Anfield and unlikely any club going to take on his wages.
{Ed001's Note - he never looked good at Southampton or Palace, it was a bizarre signing caused by bad scouting. One of the most important things is to check out a player's background and lifestyle and no one did that.}
4.) 17 Jun 2019 12:33:50
Such a short career in football so why waste it? Can party and do what you want at 36+ when you retire!
5.) 17 Jun 2019 15:18:48
What lifestyle choices is he making? Is he a smoker? Party man?
6.) 18 Jun 2019 22:35:57
What's all this about his lifestyle?
02 Sep 2020 12:37:23
Have to agree really like Van Der Beek. Think he would suit our system very well. Oh well I trust the club fully still.
24 Jul 2020 15:32:50
Why has the Shaqiri interest faded Ed?
{Ed002's Note - Sevilla signed someone else.}
03 Jul 2020 11:26:16
Thanks Ed
I meant hypothetically on Brandt I realise you mean a slight possibility rather than anything concrete.
Great info from yourself again.
Take care.
{Ed002's Note - Yes. There are players out there who can offer more than Shaqiri and the versatility to cover several positions. Brandt would be one such player.}
03 Jul 2020 08:38:44
I’d say we will likely see some funds from sales of Lovren, Karius, Grujic, Wilson, and Shaqiri off top of head. Lallana and Clyne are free so no money there.
May not be enough to pay for both Brandt and Carlos, if Brandt came would we move on Origi as well? We do have Brewster who could be a sub for the front three but he hasn’t looked ready when he’s been given chance so for me another season at Swansea would be far better for his development.
Would Dortmund have any interest in Grujic?
{Ed002's Note - Brandt is very much a wild card, but a player liked by Klopp. The situation with game time would also be a concern with Brandt so he may have no interest. What he offers is far more flexability than most - certaily more than Rashica. There is no interest from Dortmund in Grujic.}
02 Jul 2020 18:14:32
Must admit, if you said to be by end of window we would see both Diego Carlos and Julian Brandt arrive with Lallana, Lovren, Shaqiri and both Karius and Clyne leaving I would be more than happy with our business. Plus we have Elliot, Jones, and Van Den Berg plus Hoever from the youth side that’s enough.
We also have Keita and Minimino to settle in as well as Brewster.
