Hi eds, lots of talk about us/chelsea signing Falcao at the end of the season, sounds like he agent is doing his up most to drum up some interest from premier league teams

JayIreland

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of his agent doing any such thing.}

1.) 24 Mar 2015 17:31:38
Hi Ed, so do you think this is made-up rubbish or do you think there is a possibility of him joining either team? Surely Chelsea wouldn't be interested and Liverpool wouldn't be interested due to his extremely high wages

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea have no interest in him and are actively looking elsewhere for forwards. I wouldn't hold your breath about him joining LFC. Cavani and Ibrahimovic last week, Falcao this week?}

2.) 24 Mar 2015 20:17:25
Hi Ed, I think (and hope) Jay is asking in incredulity rather than hope! I'm pretty certain that there's not a single LFC fan who would want to see him here. Its unfortunate the toll his injury seems to have taken on him, but he has shown nothing in his season in the premiership to indicate that he is worth even a fifth of his wages and purported transfer fee.

I would become even more disillusioned with the transfer strategy if we spent so much money on a guy nearing the end of his career who hasn't demonstrated any inkling of being able to perform at the highest level in our league.

What's does everyone make of klopps assessment of firmino as a striker who sometimes plays in midfield and not a midfielder who sometimes plays as a striker.

JayIreland

1.) 23 Nov 2015 20:04:28
It wasn't an assessment of the player, Those were his instructions to Firmino for this specific game.

2.) 23 Nov 2015 20:32:18
Semantics.

Football is football, intelligent players can adapt their game to different role.

3.) 24 Nov 2015 00:18:14
He's played false 9 and no.10 before, and then every so often on the wing, and capable in all 3 positions depending on what you're looking for in terms of strategy (obviously perfect for high press and counters rather than crosses into the box) . I still see him more naturally as a no.10 though.

Having said that, Klopp played Lewandowski as a no.10 for a while to teach him how to be a striker so perhaps he really does see him converting to that mould.

Personally was surprised he wasn't used before as a striker when our forwards were injured, have always seen him as a possibility there, especially after seeing him and Coutinho play exactly this setup for Brazil a while back and their link play was obvious then too.

4.) 24 Nov 2015 07:52:28
I am not sure his finishing is good enough to play as a striker at the moment although it can improve of course as it improved with couts.

5.) 24 Nov 2015 09:23:54
Klopps as u know is a master of motivation. he is good at telling people with pictures and analogies what he wanted. he wants firmino to see himself as a real striker not some part time striker. i remember ronaldo was once a winger at man united until he receive some kinda mental training that ask him to picture himself scoring goals from all angles.

Read this today, can see why they want Balotelli gone:

Two stories reflect Balotelli’s listless attitude. During training Colin Pascoe, then Liverpool’s assistant manager, gathered the squad in a huddle close to Melwood’s perimeter wall. Thirty or 40 yards away, Jon Flanagan was hobbling by, an injured player facing almost a year on the sidelines. Balotelli started shouting towards him for no apparent reason, “Hey, hey…” interrupting Pascoe’s flow. For that, the Italian was threatened with banishment to the changing rooms.
Later in the afternoon, Balotelli scored a jaw-dropping goal from near the halfway line. Witnesses stood open-mouthed: first-team players shook their heads in disbelief, youngsters smirked nervously at the brilliance in front of them. One problem: the goal was at the wrong end.At 1-1 during a 10 on 10 match, with Balotelli on the weaker team made up of likely substitutes for the weekend’s game at Arsenal as well as teenagers from the academy, he deemed it appropriate to turn around and fire a shot towards Brad Jones. The goalkeeper was helpless. Balotelli thought it hilarious, laughing away by himself in the centre circle.

But none of this is new, its not like he's become like this in the last 12 months.

What I still can't understand is why the 'powers that be' sanctioned his move to us 12 months ago.

2.) 13 Aug 2015 12:52:39
I'm not sure who's more idiotic, him or the club for buying him! He wasn't going to suddenly change because he's playing for Liverpool :/

3.) 13 Aug 2015 13:02:19
The one who bought him without any doubt. We just went and handed our head to him. simple.
But nothing to take away from the fact BR never played to his strength at all.

4.) 13 Aug 2015 13:16:50
The first thing I do Jay when I sit down to breakfast is type into google the word: Liverpool. I did this earlier and came up with the Irish Independents article - that you posted above.
Question: does anyone else open their day in the same manner?

5.) 13 Aug 2015 13:32:29
Mind you I think the second story is funny

6.) 13 Aug 2015 13:40:08
I was shocked just how many were excited by his arrival.

They have obviously never watched football to even judge him as a good player.

Disappointed by the Kop too for singing his name when many players struggle to even gain a pinch of that accolade.

7.) 13 Aug 2015 13:48:10
Somefella

I open my day by category coming on here. I remember coming over here i'm the morning and seeing the Firmino posts and being shocked as there had been no previous links

8.) 13 Aug 2015 13:53:52
somefella, that's exactly what i did this morning

Lads (and ladies)

Can we please just get behind the team, i'm sick of people moaning after one game

Lets see how they perform before righting the team off before the season has properly got underway

10 games in if we are way off the pace i'd understand it, but not after one game when the team is still finding there feet and haven't got there sharpness yet

There is a lot to look forward to this season, coutinho and Firmino, better backroom staff that might get the defense organizing better etc.

Lets be optimistic. this season could turn out to be a surprise

Jay

Until we beat so called top 4 team 10 - 0 majority won't be happy.

Away at stoke first game 1 - 0 is a good result to me. It's first game so performance is not something to go by.

If I remember correctly 2 seasons ago we beat stoke 1 - 0 played rubbish and begovic made a hash of sturridges long range shot , then mignolet saved a penalty at the death.

I think we nearly won the league that season. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

2.) 12 Aug 2015 19:52:41
We actually played well for 70 mins and should have been 3 up then last 20 mins were hanging on

23 Jun 2015 11:07:26
I really hope if we do get firmino that we use him as a striker rather than an attacking midfielder

JayIreland

1.) 23 Jun 2015 11:49:05
He will not be the player he is if we buy him and play him as a striker.

2.) 23 Jun 2015 12:28:10
When i say a striker i mean a false 9

It would be ridiculous just signing another attacking midfielder

3.) 23 Jun 2015 12:39:12
Brendan is buying him to put him out for loan in the left back position.

4.) 23 Jun 2015 13:08:18
I actually wouldn't be surprised ha

5.) 23 Jun 2015 13:09:09
Or we can buy an actual number 9? What point is buying an attacking midfielder to play him out of position, in the hope he scores more goals than an actual striker.

6.) 23 Jun 2015 13:34:04
Currently with the Brazil squad at the Copa America Firmino has been deployed as a false nine by Dunga and has shone. His link up with Coutinho in particular has been sensational.

7.) 23 Jun 2015 15:19:29
Firmino played as "false 9" in 1 match, when Neymar was suspended and alongside Robinho in another; hardly evidence enough to suggest him be a better acquisition than an actual striker. He is an excellent player, but not what LFC need right now.

18 Jun 2015 13:38:57
Hi Eds, anything new on Firmino? I seen yesterday Ed1 say a deal had already been agreed, he just didn't know who it was with.

I'm sure its either us or united at this stage?

Let's stop slating players before they've played a game, to say he wouldn't get his game at Sunderland is absolutely disgusting

Ed, you say the contract was offered to him a while ago, so it is odd that they are just letting the story come out now. Could this be because we are selling him and the club want to make it look like they did everything to keep him?

JayIreland

{Ed001's Note - it could be or it could be that he has been persuaded to stay now and so they are releasing the info as they expect him to sign.}
