I read the Athletic article and I agree, there isn't any hard evidence pointing to an imminent departure. It's just a lot of loose dot connecting with parallels to Gini's situation. They're filling the void of the summer with a provocative story. With that said, I don't believe it's a given he's here beyond his deal. This is just how it goes when you have an aging star player.

It seems very much like other sources have taken the Athletic article and used it as a basis to generate clicks etc for their own sites.
The links between Hendo and PSG/ Atletico are tenuous at best. It states that Pochetino has praised Hendo in the past and that he’s still friends with Suarez. Hardly concrete links.

There is no comparison between Hendo and Gini, one is a captain a leader both on and off the pitch. One was our best player when we won the title and got PFA player of the year. One got an MBE for his charity work. The other plays for PSG.

Harrison very likely wanted to go back to Leeds so that will have helped. The clubs must have a good relationship too which would have helped.
Can't compare his price to others like Wilson in my opinion as £11M is a crazy price for Harrison. He is worth double that. Maybe he had just 12 months left on his contract?

Not too fussed about not signing anyone, I do believe we need to strengthen up top but the only players worth looking at have moved or cost 200 mill like mbappe, haaland.
I do think they've used contacts as a good distraction technique.
I would've maybe entertained offers for mane this summer if it meant haaland was 100% available, but I believe top 3 and maybe a domestic cup is achievable. I just see city and Chelsea being too strong especially city can sore for sun.

Jurgen Klopp was asked today about the need to replace Gini Wijnaldum at Liverpool FC this summer.
This was his answer.
"You don't have to hide the relationship of Gini, how much I loved his way of playing, how reliable he was as a player. But he's not here anymore.
"You tell me, if you would sign a midfielder, tell me a name? We can count our midfielders and you tell me we need to replace Gini. Hendo and Thiago haven't been involved in pre-season apart from a week, we played quite a few games with Milner, Naby Keita and Harvey, we have another midfield that played that was Oxlade, Fabinho, Curtis Jones. Curtis is another player who can and will make the next step and is an exceptional talent.
"Different profiles, now you tell me which player we need? What should the player have? Should he score more goals that Gini? Should he defend better than Fab? Should he be more creative than Naby, Curtis, Ox, Harvey? What do you want?
"So he should score more goals? Okay. Makes sense. I don't know which midfielder it is then that scores more goals from that position than the boys we have. We've never said we don't have to improve - we have to improve - but to score more goals from midfield positions you have to create the situations for that.
"You can't just say we need a midfielder to score more goals, if a midfielder plays for us it's not that easy they are always in goalscoring situations, they have to do different jobs, we have a specific set-up of our team, you see where our full-backs are and who is in the box. It must be very hard for Klopp having to put up with the lack of funds. I feel his frustration when he talks like this it’s happened a few times in his Interviews/ conferences.
Ageing Squad, getting stale. We have a great 12/ 13 starters and the rest are bang average. We’ve been caught by Chelsea and United in terms of quality, they were nowhere to be seen 3 windows ago. Klopp deserves better.

I posted on this that Klopp has given the answer about the midfield. it's not an easy job in his system and he knows it. I'm all for trusting what we have in the shed rather than, more than likely, paying over the odds in a congested area of the pitch on a player who would likely need the season to integrate themselves into the squad.
We play the way we do, it has been successful and that is it.

So been watching the best goals from 01/ 02 season as I was only 9 (sorry lads) at the time, was there a reason as to why we didn't make the anelka loan permanent.
With the 4 strikers of Owen, anelka, heskey, fowler we had although fowler was injured for most of it. Owen being a poacher, fowler scoring from anywhere, anelkas pace and heskey target man was probably one of the best front 4 I've seen from us.

Fowler was already gone when Anelka arrived, there was no way all 4 would've been at the club even if Houllier had wanted Anelka permanent.
Litmanen was the 4th striker. Also I think we had Baros by 01-02 as well, although he only played once that season.

Boot22, Diouf was already earmarked to join Liverpool even before the WC began in 2002. And if you think Diouf was crap before he signed and only signed cos he scored in the WC ( which in fact, he didn’t) then you have it all wrong, IMO.
The fact of the matter is that Senegal don’t even make it to the WC, the AFCON final (lost on pens to Cameroon), and nearly leading a modest Lens team to the French League that season (lost on the last day to Lyon, at Lyon) WITHOUT El Hadj Diouf, end of. He was absolutely unplayable that season for club and country so I have no prob with us signing him at the time.
Now, all the glory would later go to his head and became a true piece of work and in hindsight, it was not a good move BUT that was not the impression at the time, IMO. Personally, I would have signed both him and Anelka.
