Any interest from Liverpool in Dominik Szoboszlai Eds? Now Mount looks to be less likely I think he could be a decent alternative. Thanks for all the info so far, legendary stuff.

HBRed

{Ed002's Note - I have already answered this.}

12 Jul 2015 18:11:30
BBC have confirmed that Sterling has been sold! £49 million by all accounts. Take that all the way to the bank.

HBRed

1.) 12 Jul 2015 18:22:31
If only it was all upfront. Probably about £20 million up front, the rest is probably staged payments, add ons, fees, taxes, QPRs cut etc etc. the best thing aside the money is that he's gone now and the club can move forward.

2.) 12 Jul 2015 18:23:14
Great news but I just hope we really spend it well unlike our last 50 million cash sum which was spent partly on Andy carrol

3.) 12 Jul 2015 18:26:55
Haha, good piece of business there!

4.) 12 Jul 2015 18:27:04
Now Sky too.

Good riddance you vastly overrated punk. I for one will be surprised if he's ever worth as much again. He's developing Ballotelli-esque mental issues.

5.) 12 Jul 2015 18:28:38
Good business financially and glad he's off but still a little gutted it got to this.

6.) 12 Jul 2015 18:31:29
Also on a couple more places. Looks tobe true

7.) 12 Jul 2015 18:32:47
Can't take it all the way to our bank we'll have to drop some of it off at QPR's bank, some £10m of it if that sale figure is correct.

8.) 12 Jul 2015 18:33:16
Fees £44m apparently with the add one amounting to £49. Anyone know what percentage of that QPR get? Eds? Reus next for you boys

{Ed001's Note - 20%}

9.) 12 Jul 2015 18:40:46
Good business by LFC.

Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and spend wisely. I'm pretty happy with the window so far, let's hope it continues.

10.) 12 Jul 2015 18:41:22
Thank god. Time for a poll who should we buy to replace grabbing sterling.

11.) 12 Jul 2015 18:55:52
ed001: i thought citeh wouldn't go that high because of FFP?

{Ed001's Note - only if it was all up front, which was the issue, as we wanted a bigger up front payment.}

12.) 12 Jul 2015 19:02:01
Cosgey, I think we have enough players in his position, no need for a replacement. Striker is the main concern.

Benteke seems likely of course, not sure who else I'd choose from who's available. Lacazette probably, but eds have said in the past no chance.

13.) 12 Jul 2015 19:11:48
Yes I know we need a striker but if utd come in for benteke if honestly don't think he will come as not in C L. I just asked who we should look at buying with the money if available and wants to come

14.) 12 Jul 2015 20:38:11
Great news, especially that it was closed out in time so that we didn't have to drag the tosser over to Thailand with us

15.) 12 Jul 2015 20:53:27
But this money has already been spent.

16.) 12 Jul 2015 23:11:06
Most people laughing about the sale - wonder if Raheem will be laughing when he picks up his PL medal, and other trophies that he wouldn't be winning with us - same as Torres, Suarez. McManaman, and even Michael Owen - yes it's official LFC are now a selling club of decent talent. We should be gutted he was forced to leave, whether it be just BR, or our obvious lack of ambition. Whatever forced him out should be a major worry for those in charge.

17.) 13 Jul 2015 00:04:05
Nope Chris as the eds have previously said Sterlings departure has nothing to do with transfers coming in 😉

18.) 12 Jul 2015 21:08:10
Ed001, please don't tell me that we paid AGENTS fees on this one ?
Sterling gets a 5% 'Loyalty Bonus" as well, I think.
JOKE.

{Ed001's Note - ok, I won't tell you....}

Palhinha deal confirmed off - does that mean we won't be getting Gravenberch?

HBRed

1.) 01 Sep 2023 17:24:22
Two things aren’t dependent on each other, Munich are happy to respect the players wishes and the relationship we’ve got with them apparently.

2.) 01 Sep 2023 17:32:01
Is the deal off as Fulham can't a player in? If so it probably happens in January anyway.

3.) 01 Sep 2023 18:02:41
Imagine the madness, if we go and SIGN Palhinha now!

(Loan Curtis to Fulham, if they struggle to find a replacement. )

4.) 01 Sep 2023 19:35:22
I don’t understand all this Jones bashing, for me if he I fit he plays. I really rate the kid.

5.) 01 Sep 2023 20:29:42
Not bashing Jones. but palhinha is class and what we needed. Could of been win win both parties.

6.) 01 Sep 2023 20:47:14
Magico124, Palinha is a very good player however, he is not what we need at that price (80m) and at that age (approaching 29). We can't complain that the midfield needs to be rereshed with young players and then, go spunk 80m on a near 29 year old. That don't make that much sense to me, respectfully.

7.) 01 Sep 2023 21:07:32
Wasn’t Bayern meant to be signing him for 60 mill euros or have I read that wrong.

8.) 01 Sep 2023 22:23:10
Man. of. todd, To be fair I don't see anybody bashing Jones in this thread.

Yes, JK, it was £58 million (50+8). Nowhere near 80 million. Also, Paulinho turned 28 in July.

9.) 01 Sep 2023 22:46:14
The club wanted to buy Gravemberch - the right player at the right price.

Time to move on from the window. midfield has been overhauled. We bought two national team captains, a World Cup winner and a young lad we’ve been chasing for a couple of years. The midfield looks a fair bit more promising than it did in May.

The forwards look pretty good too - seem to have quite a few options.

Let’s dig in and slag the defence off - at least until the next window. Roll on January.

10.) 01 Sep 2023 23:12:57
We the reds, WH wanted Palinha after Rice got sold and they were quoted 80m pounds at the time to replace him. They may have reduced their price when Bayern come in for him later in the window but that was what Fulham wanted.

Now, I guarantee you that had LFC come in for Palinha at that time, it would not have been 58m euros + add on's. I can promise you that cos that PL tax is for real. As for his age, 28 or 29 makes no diff. to me. 80m pounds for a 28 yr old makes no sense to me regardless of how anyone wants to spin it.

{Ed025's Note - as much as 150M for a 31 year old Oli?..

11 Aug 2023 12:18:20
Well, it was nice for the hour it lasted. Back to Lavia anyone?

HBRed

1.) 11 Aug 2023 12:19:57
No thanks.

2.) 11 Aug 2023 12:44:33
Nah, bro. It’s just too painful.

3.) 11 Aug 2023 13:02:54
I'd be stoked if we got Lavia.

04 Aug 2022 18:32:16
Konate out 'for the start of the season', which suggests a decent and uncertain stretch. giving me 20/ 21 ptsd.

HBRed

1.) 04 Aug 2022 19:13:41
Considering we haven’t kicked a competitive ball yet we’ve got quite a few injuries. Hopefully we’re getting the bad luck out of the way now.

2.) 04 Aug 2022 20:10:24
OP - ‘the start of the season’ could be the match against Fulham.

3.) 04 Aug 2022 20:22:57
We've got Nat Phillips. We can play him on his own at the back and we'll be fine. Nout to worry about lad!

4.) 04 Aug 2022 23:16:45
Sepp van den berg to the rescue. Could thrive after his loan at Preston can cover right back also .

5.) 05 Aug 2022 08:00:19
The ever reliant and under appreciated Matip will step up. And Gomez will be first reserve.

6.) 05 Aug 2022 09:24:22
This is good for Gomez as he wouldn’t have got many games but with Konate out he is able cover. We our fine we have lots of centre backs who all have quality. If Barcelona want Trent they would make themselves Bankrupt again would they not? Up to them I suppose! Look forward to the league getting under way tonight should be a good game.

7.) 05 Aug 2022 09:42:02
Gomez to start? With a full pre season under his belt, I get the feeling Klopp might chuck Gomez in with VVD.

8.) 05 Aug 2022 10:08:51
OP, we got depth at CB so we're good. All else fails, Nat "Baresi" Phillips is ALWAYS at the ready.

9.) 05 Aug 2022 11:32:40
I think Matip was due to start anyway. If it ain’t broke and all that.

19 Aug 2019 22:45:43
interesting piece on MNF this eve effectively saying we're trying to play a high-line, and pushing up/ not following runs in behind as we're trying to catch offside more. As a result people are getting in behind, as they have been for the last 3 games. Clips do make it look like this is v true. If we play against Arsenal doing that they'll run riot. We allowed 15 shots v us in both games v Norwich and Southampton, if we let Arsenal have that many we'll be in trouble!

HBRed

1.) 20 Aug 2019 08:52:09
I understand a bit of tweaking each season to stay a little unpredictable, but the 1 thing that was near on perfect last season was our defense. That's the 1 thing that didn't need changing imo. I'm interested to see how the next month or 2 plays out and if it's true, or whether our defense is just a little rusty.

2.) 20 Aug 2019 10:20:27
Perhaps they feel its worth trying as VAR will help with those very close calls. Just my opinion.

3.) 20 Aug 2019 11:18:28
It's total rubbish. Most of the shots we've conceded were when we had dropped off. If you press high you keep the opposition away from your goal. How many times has a striker ran off the back of Virgil or Matip on the half way line and had a free run at goal in our first 3 games?

The team needs to push higher. We are not set up to defend deep like we tried to do in the second half vs Norwich, first half vs Chelsea, first half vs Southampton, and last 10 minutes vs Southampton.

We've always played the offside trap. The problem this year is that we are playing it 30 yards from our goal which allows no recovery time. The line needs to be 50 yards from the goal so we can force any runners in behind wide.

4.) 20 Aug 2019 11:30:49
Look at the goals conceded. Pukki and Giroud were both as result of us trying to hold an offside trap just outside our own area. Nobody read the runners, sure, but If that line had been another 30 yards up the pitch do you think those players would've got a shot away before Virgil, Matip or Gomez got back across to them? No chance.

The other goals were a freak kicking error from Adrian, and a disgusting dive for a penalty. You can't legislate for them.

I think that our defence is subconsciously not as confident in Adrian so they are dropping too deep to try and protect him which is not playing to their strengths. Virgil needs to show his leadership and push the line higher. They have to trust Adrian's ability to sweep up behind them like they do when Alisson plays.

It shows how clueless some pundits are that they think dropping deeper will help us remotely. Ferdinand and co were great players but the reason why they're sat in a studio and not a dugout is because they don't have a clue tactically.

5.) 20 Aug 2019 11:35:27
Last season we trusted alisson to make saves VVD would keep players on thier wrong foot block the pass and trust alisson to make the save it's not how many shots hit the target it's the quality of the shot and that's what we dictated last season.

6.) 20 Aug 2019 12:07:29
This high line is gash. Hope we don't play it vs City, those deep runs from Sterling will ruin us.

7.) 20 Aug 2019 14:54:33
We've played a high line for years. The issue this season has been not playing a high line. There is absolutely no problem with a high line as long as it is well drilled, your centre backs have pace, your keeper is comfortable sweeping, and your midfield puts pressure on the ball. Our entire team is built around playing a high line. It's not gash, and it didn't exactly do us any harm when we went to to toe with Man City in pre-season, even though our team was half fit and not putting pressure on the ball high enough up the pitch. They still only got in behind twice. That's what quality teams do.

8.) 21 Aug 2019 23:01:25
I don't think it's going to be a long running issue going forward, one thing I've noticed too is Adrian hasn't advanced and quick off his line. Allison is top notch at that and I'm sure this set up was planned with his strength for sweeping in mind. I'm sure klopp will have approached it this week in preparation for arsenal and we may just see a slightly more compact shape if Adrian isn't up to playing that aggressive role to sweep up balls in behind.

Our strong defence has been built on this strategy so we need to trust it's principles and not panic after 2/ 3 games. I'd be more concerned at the lack of control in our midfield zones and the spaces between mid and def.

14 Aug 2019 23:19:57
Ed001, can you pinpoint why teams (admittedly only a couple games in) are creating so many more chances against us this season? Is it to do with this high line we seem to be adopting? Or maybe being complacent or overrun in midfield. Any opinion would be appreciated, we looked impregnable last season!

Having said that, another trophy in the bag, winnings a habit boys 😎.

HBRed

{Ed001's Note - because the centre backs have not played well at all. They need to bed in again as a pair and stop this swapping around. Give the chosen pair a run of games together and they will improve.}

1.) 15 Aug 2019 07:32:13
Van dijk had his worst couple games in a Liverpool shirt imo. He was caught in between two minds consistently and did not seem to have his head in the right spot. Even when balls went over his head he reverted to starting to yell at others at times rather than focus on getting back.

Hopefully just early season jitters that will be out over the next couple of weeks.

We don't seem to have a higher line this season, we always pushed towards the halfway or within 5-10 yards of it. However it simply seems on the transition from attacking to defending we used to drop 10 yards then hold the line. Now we are simply just holding the line.

2.) 15 Aug 2019 09:44:10
think we need to realize, as hard as this is, that our guys aren't machines. Performance will come as will their peak condition etc.

3.) 15 Aug 2019 10:42:13
Pickle, or it could mean that other teams have figured our game out and know that we can be got at, coupled with the fact that our CB partnership is not settled. Picking VVD out for criticism to me, is weak cos he is not the only one guilty here. TAA, Robbo and others in midfield are ripe for blame as well. To me, it is a system issue may need to be tweaked to not, make us so open when we lose the ball, while we improve and shake the rustiness off cos rustiness, there clearly is.

4.) 15 Aug 2019 17:54:44
Last night we had Gomez and Henderson doing the job Trent AA does on his own same as Robertson on the other side. Yes they get help from midfield but it is usually more fluid than it has been.

Once we put all our players in their best positions it will all click again.

5.) 15 Aug 2019 18:08:20
Id stick with VVD and Matip ed Gomez was quality last year but i think Virgil makes most people partnering him look good.

Are you actually serious ???????????? oh my god, you’re objectifying a woman breaking the mould in journalism as a woman in a man’s world by making it about her looks, and making jokes about women in the kitchen just isn’t ok. Sort it out, get your heads out your arses.

Well said Ed0666 - let the bloke wear what he wants, it’s 2021 and you can shop in whatever section you like. The far more concerning thing for Everton fans should be his continued absence form the pitch….

{Ed0666's Note - they truly are suffering mate. DCL is a profound loss to them and what’s happened to Richarlason he’s become rubbish overnight

Apologies Ed, wasn’t sure which part it related to. Was the ending of the season just discussed then, as opposed to concrete proposals being put forward?

Sorry Ed002, no clear agreement on what exactly? Would there not have had to be a clear agreement to restart, given that broadcasters have announced it and fixtures have been put in place?
