Hi Eds,
So far you guys have been pretty spot on (Ed02 especially) about Suarez's endgame. My question to you is the following: is the club ready for life after Suarez or are they just now scrambling to find replacements? I have tried to guess as to who could come in and be a reliable forward and can't seem to come up with names. I don't believe Costa will ever sign and there are no other names out there as far as forwards we are linked with. Aspas, Sturridge and Borini can keep us afloat for a while; but once Luis leaves, we'll be thin up front. If ever Sturridge and/or Borini were to get hurt, we'd be worse off than last year. I remain positive, but it looks as if things are starting to go sideways.
{Ed002's Note - The interest in Costa was genuine and we know that Liverpool has looked at wide players (an enquiry about a loan of Capel for example). Dare I say Tom Ince is still available? Right now, I would think that Rodgers and the scouting staff might be turning my attention to the centre back situation.}

I know it is not really Liverpool specific, but I was wondering about the amount of time off players are awarded after a tournament. I always thought that managers who claimed to have forced players to take their full holidays were merely engaging in a PR stunt to make said player look better. However, I have been very surprised by the news (! ) that players were called in earlier by certain managers (B. Silva, A. Young) . Can the players' union (if there is such a thing) intervene in such cases or is it entirely up to the player to decide whether he wants to cut short his holiday or not? Can a club (Spurs) impacted by missing a great number of key players decide to "invite" them back earlier? Thanks!

Well, the game is over and LFC lost. I watched the game with at my brother's place with my 4 year-old son. I'm not sure he understands football, but he's seen me jump of joy all season after a goal and he knows who Salah is.
As I was driving to my brother's place, my son told me he'd be very sad if the team in white were to win the match. I was stunned by this and told him that if this were to happen there would be no reason to be sad. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose (my son is a very bad loser and I hope there is nothing more to this than being 4). Being sad, frustrated and mad are not very productive feelings. He did not really understand what I tried to convey, but the loss did not affect him. In fact, he played in his cousin's room for the last 30 minutes of the match and missed the disappointment.
I was very much affected by the result until this morning when I realised what little impact the loss has on my kids. So, for anyone (you know who you are) who is trying to find ways to rob real fans of football of any joy, know this: I feel sorry for you. I may be banned for this, but I have been wanting to write this for a long time. The Internet is the worst thing to ever happen to football and sports in general. It is a haven for little people and narcissists alike. Kicking people when they are down is just pathetic no matter who you support as a club.
Liverpool had a good season which ended in disappointment. Forget Ramos' tweets, Karius's tears were real! The kid apologised to the fans after the game. He may never play a game for the club again, but if your last memory of him are the errors, then you missed the big picture. Everyone can stand behind a keyboard and pretend they have all the football wisdom in the world, but try to hold your hand up in front of the world after they have seen you fail. Don't let anyone rob you of the good memories of the season. There were far too many to be negative today.

I don't know why you would be banned for that. I'm a brit living in Canada. I'm still trying to get my 7 year old to watch the reds. Even telling him half his blood is from liverpool doesn't seem to persuade him . Haha.

What a great post Canadian.
Took me a day to get over the heartache and disappointment.
Now here I am and saying out loud - I hope Karius is at goal for the first game of the season.
Were they terrible mistakes? You bet your sweet behind they were. However. One cannot stand up and sing about you never walk alone and then throw the kid to the wolves. Even after two awful mistakes in the biggest game of his life. He is 24 for christ sake - have none of us never made mistakes when we were that age?!
If Klopp decides to sell him - so be it and good luck.
But, if (like I suspect and hope) he decides to stick with Karius, I for one will be completely behind him.
This is the lowest point in your career Loris, now go out and show everyone what you're really made of!

Spot on, boys. I watched Karius cry his heart out in front of the fans. Seeing him in tear and distraught broke my heart. I felt like running into the pitch via the TV to hug him, to let him know that I forgive him and that I support him cos man, I would not wish this on anyone. Whatever Klopp chooses to do, I'm cool with it BUT right now, Loris needs our support not just as a footballer BUT more as a human being.

He’s not a scapegoat mate. He was culpable.
By the way, I think people who abuse him and threaten him are cowards who should be jailed. That doesn’t mean you can’t have an opinion on him.
Klopp will be under more pressure next season, which in itself is not laughable as he is absolutely the one for Liverpool. However, he will not be able to take another chance on Karius or it could bring him down.

I haven't posted anything in a long time mainly out of concern for public embarrassment. The Internet is a dangerous place for opinions or thoughts that go against popular belief. However, I will take a risk and say that I wish P. Coutinho all the best. I have no idea what his dreams were made of as a young lad; but many footballers / children wish to one day play for Barcelona. Of those, very few will ever even play at Camp Nou. What I do know is that while wearing Liverpool colours, he rarely disappointed. He might have had a bad game every now and then, but he had very many good ones. And, if his ambition was always to move on to bigger and better things; I wish many more footballers of the sort come to Liverpool FC. That's all.

Welcome Canadian Red, never be scared to say what you think as its your opinion, does everybody on here agree with one another? the answer is no as one player you like I might not but doesn't make me right over you. In regards to Coutinho, thanks for the memories as he has really grown into a fine player but what Liverpool has taught me is we always seem to find a gem once one star leaves.

After reading what Torres has come out and said about his departure, I feel sorry for the way fans turned on him because it kinda reminded me of how Alonso was pushed out in a sense - so what he said sounded believable to me.

I don’t want to be cynical, but none of these sports care about the well-being of these athletes. The NFL does not want to recognize its part in former players’ health problems. They have the most to lose in all this. The problem with football is that the clubs’ doctors are under pressure from managers. In the end, the player has to be the one to signal something is wrong when there are no visible signs. Karius stood up after the blow and seemed to carry on just fine. The NHL has spotters as well and their work is being criticized all the time. The real question still remains, why are parents allowing their children to risk their health when we can see what has happened to many of these athletes who suffered multiple concussions? I know a few 16 year-olds who have suffered multiple concussions and are allowed to play on.

This is a topic that I am very much interested in. The game has been lost and that is it. I don't care about Ramos, excuses, the result, PR or anything else about the final. However, I wanted to weigh in on Karius' concussion.
Firstly, European and (world) football is lightyears behind North-America when dealing with concussions. There have been too many incidents when players were allowed to continue to play even after they showed clear signs of head trauma (Agger, Willian, Kramer, etc. ) .
Secondly, before you cite the NHL, NFL and NBA as examples you should know that these leagues are NOT interested in real studies concerning concussions. Two of thse have major litigations pending and are working aound the clock to deny any link between the practice of their respective spots and concussions.
Thirdly, the concussion protocols are a joke (except in the NFL) . When the stakes are high, teams will allow players who are concussed to play and they will pretend they were not aware. The NHL play-offs are concluding right now and there are players on the ice who are rumoured to be concussed. Watch the reports come out after the cup has been handed!
Finally, ask yourself why students are still allowed to play hockey, (American) football, rugby and other contact sports while waering school colours? There have never been more concussions among students and we have no idea of the longterm effects of this condition.
P. S. Karius' concussion was probably impossible to detect. He did not show any signs of it. He carried on right after the hit and there were no reasons to suspect anything. I once suffered a concussion, it was my first ever. It took me two days to figure it out and it lasted for about four months (until the last symptoms were gone) . Sometimes there is just no-one to blame. It was bad luck in my opinion.
{Ed001's Note - Lloris is a recent example of someone who carried on playing after a concussion. The NFL use an independent body, I forget which one now, that places spotters in the crowd. If they spot signs of any player that could potentially have a head injury they can have them pulled out of the game on the spot to be checked over. They still don't get them all, but at least some action is being taken.
Football is a joke in this respect. It has no consideration for the players and their health.}

Firstly, this is where the market is. If Liverpool come in for an established player these are the fees the clubs will demand (and so they should) .
Secondly, Salah is left footed and Mane has played on the left for Saints. Coutinho (who ironically has recently played on the right side with Brazil) can be either deployed as a playmaker in midfield or sold (worst case scenario) . Good players can adapt to the needs of the team and thrive. I suspect that if all goes well none of them will care about their position.
Thirdly, Salah has been very good in Italy. He is young, fast, prolific and willing to prove that he belongs. I don't know how many European alternates which could be had for the same amount of money.
Finally, the AFCON is a reality all teams with African players may have to deal with. It cannot be the reason for not buying a player.
Of course, the transfer has yet to be agreed.

Just watch the games. If football brings joy to you then enjoy football. Every person should answer for their own actions. And if they laugh at you, let them laugh. On a more pertinent and positive note TAA just amazes me, this kid at 18 looks immense. I look forward to the next two home games.

I have been thinking the same thing. LB is the quickest way for Gomez to be back in the first eleven (cup games, cover) . He actually was ahead of Moreno before his first injury. Paying big money for a defender is madness in my opinion. However, the manager/ coaches must see something we don't. Still, I'd rather have Gomez in there than an expensive buy.
