How about Leon Goretzka, any interest from us? Bayern seems to be inclined to sell some players, could do a really good job as a lone DM, great character, big lad as well.

{Ed002's Note - None.}

1.) 11 Jul 2023 18:33:50
And with that, I think the only player we as a collective haven't asked Ed002 about this summer is Monk from Mean Machine ? might be a good replacement if Kelleher left come to think of it!

{Ed002's Note - I watched an episode of Monk last night - a detective in my home time.}

2.) 11 Jul 2023 19:08:32
“They say he could have turned pro before he turned mad. ” Love how a number of posters are about to look up mean machine and find an absolute corker of a movie. Nice one mk- that’s my movie to watch this weekend.

3.) 11 Jul 2023 20:19:12
Fantastic film isn't it aoe! If anybody hasn't seen it, I definitely recommend. My favourite football movie ever.

4.) 11 Jul 2023 20:55:40
Not the most convincing Scottish accent I ever heard, but a good film.

5.) 11 Jul 2023 21:26:46
Right. Everyone’s homework for tonight. Watch mean machine. And if you are up to it- the original longest yard starring the man himself burt Reynolds. And then after- the remake “the longest yard” starring. ahem. the man himself burt Reynolds And also Adam sandler. going to go out on a limb and say in that order for quality. And then perhaps after, monk? Though I was never a fan. Not nearly enough sport in it.

6.) 11 Jul 2023 23:18:15
I love this! Mean Machine is a great film, I remember going to the cinema to watch it. I'm also a big fan of the remake of The Longest Yard, although I admit I haven't seen the original.

Monk used to be great daytime tele during my baked student days!

7.) 12 Jul 2023 08:45:33
Watched Mean Machine again, still awesome. My takeaway: We need more football movies in our lives. haha

Nice on MK.

8.) 12 Jul 2023 11:08:13
Good shout, might introduce it to my son this weekend.

06 Jul 2021 20:59:33
So Brighton are getting a midfielder from RB Salzburg, Mwepu. Looks like they might be set to part with a midfielder. Bissouma? To us? Interesting days ahead.

1.) 06 Jul 2021 21:40:42
Can only hope. My fear is that he’s going to Arsenal.

2.) 06 Jul 2021 21:51:47
To arsenal. We're getting sick note sanchez.

3.) 06 Jul 2021 22:14:50
We need to stop going for the cheap options, sell these players we never use like Minamino Ox Shaq Origi Nico Tsikmas and sign some decent players that’ll challenge our first team.

4.) 06 Jul 2021 23:37:32
Ox wasn't exactly cheap? He was also doing really up until his injury and doesn't seem to have come back the same player.

Origi has been here a long time now, has been here before we became a world class team again and has scored some really important goals.

What I'm trying to say is a don't disagree with the overall sentiment of buying players that will challenge the first XI but just don't think some of those names were good examples.

5.) 07 Jul 2021 08:09:24
"We need to stop going for the cheap options" - transfer fever. We need to go for the right options, ones that we can afford. Not just spend cash to keep fans happy.
Andy Robertson is a prime example.

6.) 07 Jul 2021 08:37:13
Spot on, IronDan. At the time we bought these players like the front 3, Keita, Fab etc, they were by NO means cheap. 36m for Salah, 36m for Mane, 35m for Ox, Fab for 39m (rising to 44m), 55m for Keita. If people think those were cheap signings at the time we signed them then, they need to go rethink what cheap means as that is plain false.

Picking outliers like Mino, Tsimikas, Origi, Shaq and calling them cheap is a false comparison in a bid to make a point that is actually not there. We will make the signings we need for the right player regardless of price. That is how we got here and we should not be changing that approach just cos some fans' fee-fees are hurt cos there aren't enuff 0's at the end of the price.

7.) 07 Jul 2021 10:23:47
When you hear that we’re sniffing around a sicknote like Sanches for £35-40m it makes no sense. Particularly when similar amounts could get Bissouma (who can play a full season and isn’t made of crisps) or Aour or even Neuhaus.

Just because he’s had a good tournament is not a reason to sign him.

8.) 07 Jul 2021 10:53:24
I seriously doubt he's been signed (if it happens that is) off the back off hie Euro performances VVVV.

9.) 07 Jul 2021 12:05:32
Is everyone else forgetting that the AFCON is taking place during the season? Bissouma would be joining, Keita, Mane and Salah missing. People really need to start looking at this fact, and look at how many players, City, UTD and Chelsea (most likely the other top contenders) combined are going to lose to that competition.

10.) 07 Jul 2021 12:11:20
Spot on, Oh Mane Mane. That is so 90's. Nobody does that anymore. If Sanches is signed then it means, Klopp and his gurus have done their homework. I do agree that Bissouma and Neuhaus are better players BUT if we do sign him, he will have my support.

11.) 07 Jul 2021 12:46:33
Afcon is not a great disruption this season. just Brentford and Palace league games affected?

12.) 07 Jul 2021 12:11:20

14.) 07 Jul 2021 14:36:28
I’m not sure there’s much homework to have done on him, he’s never played more than half a season in the last two years because of serious recurring injury issues and he only started 14 league games last year, and let’s be honest, we’ve got more than our fair share of brittle players so we can’t afford passengers.

Scratch the surface and this has massive hard pass vibes about it. If we do make the move this has the potential to be as much of a waste of money as Naby Keita.

15.) 07 Jul 2021 15:06:16
His injury record is a massive worry for me. On that point alone we should stay well clear.

16.) 07 Jul 2021 16:00:18
I'm sure if Liverpool do buy Sanches it will just be on a whim and not because they have carefully researched the player.

17.) 07 Jul 2021 16:06:08
Not disputing thathis injuries are a concern VVVV and Mark. Not disputing the kid at Brighton might be better than him. End of the day it's not my money.

18.) 08 Jul 2021 00:04:32
Balotelli was bought on a whim Thunderbird. That worked out well, didn’t it?

19.) 08 Jul 2021 08:02:56
Balotelli was bought by Brendan Rodgers as he was desperate.
Klopp ended up giving him away.
You can't see a difference between his methods and Klopp's?

20.) 08 Jul 2021 08:33:38
His recent injury history, since joining Lille is hideous. See transfermarkt for full details but his hamstring seems to be a recurring injury.

21.) 08 Jul 2021 09:18:08
I have to say I laughed a bit when I saw the post that suggested Liverpool would be hampered by Keith going to AFCON.

I found this old pin at a flea market. My understanding is that this somewhat dubious design was created in the 1940's and used till about 1970. Anyone ITK?

(my profile pic)

1.) 09 Sep 2021 12:15:08
Belter that!

2.) 09 Sep 2021 18:15:48
Absolutely, want to sell it lol?
I’m not itk but had a look online.
Liverpool’s own website has a page on crests and this very one was used in the late 1940s “as an alternative crest that was used on merchandise, match day programmes, letterheads and more. It’s last known use by Liverpool was in the early 1980s”.
Cracker that mate.

3.) 09 Sep 2021 20:03:20
Yeah I used to have 1 of the on a old red and white quadrant liverpool flat cap. Things you take for granted when your a kid eh.

4.) 09 Sep 2021 22:03:41
I thought it was the United badge at first glance!

5.) 10 Sep 2021 08:57:41
It’s a good point z.
Apparently Man Utd changed their badge in the 60s to copy ours.

21 Aug 2021 12:53:48
That was some cross by Tsimikas! Absolute world class to find Jota between 4 meters of Mee and Tarkowski.

1.) 21 Aug 2021 14:13:30
And that Elliot kid plays like he wants a song of his own before ge turns 20. Gritty and positionally sound defending, smart and really good chemistry with Salah and TAA going forward. Looks like he has done this for a couple of seasons already.

2.) 21 Aug 2021 14:49:38
There wasn’t anyone there who had a poor game, all good to excellent.
Oddly, whilst Liverpool’s midfield looks like it can got at, it’s encouraged both teams we’ve played so far to be slightly more open and come out and have a go.
Consequently it actually suits us, leaving slightly more space to play in further forward and behind.
The team as a whole are moving the ball much quicker too, Elliott is very good at this, always looking to go forward and be positive.
I really enjoyed the match, not something you usually say after watching Burnley.

3.) 21 Aug 2021 14:53:18
Saul Niguez is what we missed today in the midfield.

{Ed0666's Note - if Fab was there and we would have scored 8

4.) 21 Aug 2021 15:01:01
Elliot played well today. Lacked a little bit of composure at times where he tried to do passes too quick, put that down to he's 18 making his PL debut at the first full Anfield in 18 months. Very neat and tidy.

5.) 21 Aug 2021 15:01:21
We certainly didn't miss Saul today. In the future? Maybe but certainly not today. Daft statement.

{Ed0666's Note - have I missed something did we sign Saul?

6.) 21 Aug 2021 15:07:52
Don't think we need Saul but we could certainly use a player like Adama Traore or Jarrod Bowen in last 15 minutes.

{Ed0666's Note - you are gonna get it now mate don’t say I didnt warn ya

7.) 21 Aug 2021 15:08:02
Harry certainly thinks we have 😜.

8.) 21 Aug 2021 15:26:19
Isn’t Saul moving to Chelsea, am certain that’s what I heard.

9.) 21 Aug 2021 15:26:43
Kind of Irish mate. Our midfield was lose. Never fully hot the control. Keita was okay. Hendo is not a holding mid and if that’s what he going to do then we need a proper powerhouse of a B2B besides him. Klopp is trying very hard to make Kieta a success and I am okay with it.
Just my two cents.

{Ed001's Note - that will be why we lost then was it? We dominated the second half I have no idea what you watched.}

10.) 21 Aug 2021 15:28:04
Top of the league lads. For now, anyway.

11.) 21 Aug 2021 15:34:20
I don't think it mattered defensively who was in midfield today. Burnley just booted it from the edge of their box to the edge of our box and completely bypassed the midfield anyway.

12.) 21 Aug 2021 15:42:48
No pleasing some. 2 games with 2 wins. 5 goals scored, all the front 4 off the mark, 0 conceded and still whinging about the midfield. Get a different hobby because football clearly doesn't make you happy.

13.) 21 Aug 2021 16:23:36
Thought we looked ok. Henderson controlled things nicely, defence held their line and looked organised. Hell, even Keita was reasonably competent. But big shout out to Elliott and Tsimikas. Tsimikas was great today and Elliott did really well on his debut, last time we against them we looked awful, this time we looked good.

14.) 21 Aug 2021 16:26:09
So far I’ve enjoyed our opening 2 games far more than any game last season and that includes the annihilation of Palace. I thought It was a very good performance and I still think we are only in 2nd gear. I don’t think anyone had a bad game today and stand out performers for me were Allison, Trent, Tsimkas and Matip. Special mentions also go to Vvd who will get better and better every game. He played some lively balls out from the back, Naby who I thought had his best half for us today in the first half, Mane who continued and continued to get himself into goal scoring positions despite poor finishing which eventually paid off for him, Jota who looked like he enjoyed the physical battle as Burnley tried to rough him up and Mo and Hendo who were just their usual influential selves. And an even more special mention to Elliot on his starting league debut for us. Kid grew into the game and looks like we have special talent on our hands.

I also got to give credit to Burnley. After 5 mins in and Pope started time wasting I thought here we go I’m going to end up turning this game off. But fair play to them they never parked a bus. Yes they played long and direct football but at least they played some sort of football.

15.) 21 Aug 2021 16:39:10
What JK23 said.

16.) 21 Aug 2021 17:49:40
More nonsense from sinwave. Hard work.

17.) 21 Aug 2021 18:07:21
Great result today, at least Burnley came to give us a game even if they were a bit thuggish at times. Thought Elliot had a great debut staying out wide combining well with TAA being very effective moving into the insight right channel from fullback.

08 Jul 2021 17:31:13
Are we really in for Traore again? Seen some rumours about him. Seems unlikely.

1.) 08 Jul 2021 18:38:18
You're right, but I'll always indulge him for 2005 :-)

2.) 08 Jul 2021 21:12:13
I think Djimi is happily retired now.

{Ed025's Note - and with a CL winners medal...amazing..

3.) 09 Jul 2021 07:54:18
VVVV watch Nobby Stiles ‘deal’ with Eusebio in the 1968 European Cup Final and the legendary Chelsea vs Leeds FA Cup Final replay.

Every team had them and as an example Bobby Moore was a class centre half and could play football - but he was not averse to mixing it until if he had the and not a lot got past him.

By the way I typed in Bonetti (as in Romeo Bonetti) when I mentioned the Italians before - the nice autocorrect thing changed it to Benetton for me 😁.

24 Jun 2020 22:16:46
Great win tonight! Looked composed and creative all the way. And that Williams kid. If TAA was not ours, we'd all be pissing ourselves with Joy. How do Klopp find time on the pitch for those two in a few years time? Cause Neco will be a special RB for sure.

1.) 24 Jun 2020 22:55:17
He’s better feet then Trent but still raw and a bit before he can ping a ball like Trent but we are spoiled.

2.) 24 Jun 2020 23:00:02
Easy to get them on the pitch at the same time. TAA moves into midfield. Job done.

3.) 24 Jun 2020 23:35:46
Best performance I think I've seen all season from us maybe I've lost my memory during lockdown. Palace were pretty poor though but we hounded them every minute.

4.) 24 Jun 2020 23:48:27
Normal service resumed
Well done lads!
YNWA

Fabinho . wow!

5.) 25 Jun 2020 00:01:35
Perfect back up for trent he will get games in europe an cups plus prem and if trent injured Bingo! Neco in . The trick is getting a good back up for robbo .

6.) 25 Jun 2020 00:06:17
Of all players fab seems to have hit the ground running. Games like that make me wonder if we wasted 60mil on Alisson, he wasn't needed. I could've kept a clean sheet today. I'm joking of course. Salah was class too, his ball for manes goal was sublime, first touch pass. Mane was class, Hendo, Robbo. They all were. It was a joy to watch. Its the type of performance that should win us the league. Chelsea do the business and it will be. Pure class.

Yeah neco was good. But Trent is consistently brilliant and against teams that can apply pressure. Palace had given up by the time the kid came on. Not taking anything away from him. He's been really good nearly every time I've seen him.

7.) 25 Jun 2020 05:10:27
Both Hendo and Milner are in their 30s now, so I can see TAA gradually moving into that right CM slot where he can still make his overlaps and make full use of his crossing.

8.) 25 Jun 2020 07:08:53
As zpecialone says, Milly and Hendo are both 30+, Gini isn't far behind either. Trent has time and space to move into midfield and Neco can learn the role as back up until Trent moves.

9.) 25 Jun 2020 07:46:46
Fabinho was good last night and he was one of the better ones against little Ev. But for me barring the Leicester game away that was definitely our stand out performance of the season.

10.) 25 Jun 2020 08:40:37
That was the perfect "we're ready for you, bring it on" message to ManC before the upcoming game. Masterful control of the entire pitch for the full 90 minutes. Was impressed at how even our subs were running, tackling, dribbling and pressing despite the score and the end of the game. But you have to admit that Palace's play deflated considerably the moment Zaha went off injured.

Wijnaldum should have been on the scoresheet; and teams will have noticed how dangerous Fabinho can be if given the space. Firmino seemed a half-step behind the others, but we have one full week of rest and training. Williams is going to be one heck of a player if he's managed properly and stays injury-free. Excellent game to watch despite being lop-sided.

11.) 25 Jun 2020 09:40:29
RedScarFace - I was going to write the same message. It could well have been our best performance this season. I recall the Leicester game but for me that was the second half rather in that one. Last night was pure dominance. The boys just clicked. Could have been and probably should have been more than 4.

12.) 25 Jun 2020 19:35:11
G1dgo, I have seen that LC game several times over during the lockdown and have to disagree that it was not just the first half. We were on them like a rash and could have been 1 nil up within the first 30 seconds and 3 up at half time. We completely battered them and the 4-0 was flattering to them cos it easily could have been 10.

I agree that last night's result was as perfect a result as you will ever find BUT to do what we did to LC on their patch and how we did it, all being jet-lagged after the WCC trip to Qatar, you got to gtake that perf. over the Palace one, IMO.

13.) 25 Jun 2020 19:36:04
Delighted for Neco to make his Prem debut, now all he has to do is dislodge Trent😁. I said the other day about our superb youth coming through and he's another amazing example. Was unlucky not to score on his league debut aswel. Elsewhere I thought the whole team were phenomenal, brilliant performance.

28 Dec 2018 12:31:02
See us linked with a portugese RB today, and decided to have a look at the homegrown quota in the squad. Found a bit of a puzzle.

Andy Robertson is listed as homegrown by Echo and This is Anfield, but non-homegrown on the PL-site. Anyone ITK about his status?

By the way- 23 out of 25 senior players named with 7 homegrown, so we are ok in that regard either way.

Among the homegrown are Lallana and Clyne whom might be on their way. Replacing Clyne with that guy from Porto wouldn't really have an impact on our PL squad as I understand it. 6 homegrown out of 23 players would meet the minimum requirements, right?

{Ed002's Note - Andy Robertson is not HG.}

If I was Curtis Jones I'd be handing in my transfer request right about now. Opportunities will be slim to none for him at a time in his career when playing time is of the essence. Brighton maybe? Or Wolves?

Looks a bit too slow to play in a team with a high line, or maybe hasn't got the experience to read the game quick enough. And still a bit lightweight to play in a team with a low line. A bit tricky to place. Gym for a year maybe? Bulk up a little, get a pair of Shaq-calves and some pecs?

Most likely Salah will head out in the summer. If a long term replacement for him should be available in January at a decent cost I'd surely pull the trigger.

Every summer the FA seems to give instructions to the refs to interpret the rules in some more or less bizarre way. Every year it last 4-5 weeks until some sanity is restored. Every year I get sick of the nonsense.

This year I'll draw a line and avoid Villa, Wolves and West Ham. The refereeing should be back to the usual standard/ sub standard by then.

So weird the FA don't understand the harm this stupidity is causing their product, I can't be the only one who is quite sick of it all three weeks in?
