Hi Ed, seen a lot of links with us an Frank Kessie of AC Milan coming out today. Feels like it could be lazy journalism due to his contract running out. Could also be his agent making up stories to put pressure on Milan to offer a better deal. Figured I’d ask anyway, looked like a tank in midfield every time I’ve seen him play, and if he was available for cheap or maybe even free, I’d hope Liverpool’s name would be in that hat. Thanks a lot.

{Ed002's Note - Franck Kessié (CM) Efforts are being made to secure a new contract, but the issue is over the wages continues with Milan struggling. Could potentially be sold but I expect agreement to be reached eventually else there will be a lot of interest with Juventus looking to meet his demands. Interest of Mr Mourinho at Spurs and now Roma remains. Spurs also want him as an Ndombele replacement but the player remains keen to move to Chelsea to eventually replace Kante - but Chelsea turned down the offer from his agent initially although a proposal is on the table that would suit both clubs and the player. His agent has also approached Manchester United and PSG but both sides would need to move a player on in order to add Kessie - but both are interested. His agent has also spoken with Liverpool and Leicester who may be interested in agreeing a pre-contract in January but both have preferred targets. Looking for a huge signing on fee.}

1.) 31 Dec 2021 15:34:06
ed002 is Renato Sanches the preferred target?

{Ed002's Note - Bissouma would be first choice still. Gravenberch and others being considered have already been explained.}

2.) 31 Dec 2021 18:30:27
Kessie is literally Moussa Sissoko I hope spurs get him or even better united.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree mate I thought he was a worldie but on recent performances he would be a massive mistake imo

3.) 31 Dec 2021 17:36:57
Ed002 have the club approached Brighton recently about Bissouma to the best of your knowledge?

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know, sorry.}

4.) 31 Dec 2021 19:31:13
No problem mate. Thanks for the reply 👍.

5.) 31 Dec 2021 20:34:23
I’d stay clear of kessie especially if he’s wanting top wages I think the money is better spent slew here withi. The club.

6.) 01 Jan 2022 17:42:22
Have never been that impressed with Kessie. Against us he looked terrible, one paced, tactically inept and couldn’t pass a ball more than five yards.

Hi Eds, does the club have the finances required to bring in top players in the summer. It seems every year we are promised big summer spending and it never happens, don’t want to get my hopes up to be let down again.

{Ed002's Note - The club has to live within its means and raise funds like other clubs do through sales.}

1.) 27 Jan 2022 07:53:39
When have the club ever promised big spending on players?

2.) 27 Jan 2022 07:57:13
We have not sold anyone remotely in the last two years to generate any substantial income. not sure whose promising big money moves.

3.) 27 Jan 2022 07:58:55
I’ll be the mule here lads will I?

So Ed how are Newcastle affording new players? 🤦🏻‍♂️.

4.) 27 Jan 2022 08:20:50
Adam the club has not consistently come out and said they will sign big money players. Why are you trying to create something out of nothing? You are welcome to Everton’s owners if you like?

5.) 27 Jan 2022 09:57:29
Why would you be left disappointed? I mean it's not like we've won the league, champions league, super Cup and World club cup in the past 4 seasons. Does making big money signings guarantee success? No.

6.) 27 Jan 2022 10:02:59
We don’t buy superstars. We make superstars. And then when they ask for superstar wages we say no 🤣.

7.) 27 Jan 2022 10:27:38
Jay Dub, from memory, I think Ed002 has said when a club is taken over, the new owners can inject a certain amount into the club to begin with or something along those lines. Plus, they will likely also sign new sponsorship deals, rename the stadium etc for the long run.

{Ed002's Note - Broadly right. New owners can request UEFA to exempt them from FFP regulations for a season to inject money to effectively get a club back on course. In respect of Newcastle, the owners have not done this and don't need to, as the previous owner left them in a very good position financially with respect to FFP (by effectively not spending too much).}

8.) 27 Jan 2022 11:16:58
Our commercial revenue trajectory hit the skids due to C.V.. I see we've just made a change in the commercial department. It's super difficult to get sponsorship in this economic climate so some creativity is needed to get the growth back on track. I also read that the club are paying more attention to developments in technology that may augment the business model. Will be interesting to see where it heads.

Anyone want to buy a season ticket to watch the games at Metaverse Anfield with a VR setup?

9.) 27 Jan 2022 11:22:34
@Adamj, I assume that by ‘top players’ you actually mean (the most) expensive players? I think that assumption is not always correct. We have two fullbacks who imho would rank in the top 6 in the world in their respective positions and there combined purchase cost was £9m I think. If you compare, say, City’s purchase of Grealish with our outlay for Robbo, TAA, Jones and Elliot I think it would be reasonable to argue that it is not the actual cost of a player that makes him a ‘top player’ but the value a player brings to the team relative to the money paid that is a better indication of a top player.

10.) 27 Jan 2022 11:24:13
Thanks for clarifying Ed. Interesting remark about the clubs financial position and I guess it makes sense, if they haven't been spending for all these years, they must be in a pretty healthy state financially.

11.) 27 Jan 2022 12:12:36
Meanwhile, on the pitch, where it matters.

12.) 27 Jan 2022 12:40:45
WDW

Robertson was one of kind and others came through the academy. How about karius and other countless flops we managed to buy very cheap?
The context is not money, but the position to sign players.

13.) 27 Jan 2022 13:40:03
In fairness Ben Davies was cheap and he’s never put a foot wrong for us.

14.) 27 Jan 2022 17:42:40
Countless flops?
Name them.
Karius being the o0bvious one.

15.) 27 Jan 2022 19:18:41
Keita.

16.) 27 Jan 2022 19:19:50
Didn't see the cheap post mate. But he's the biggest flop still haha.

Whilst there may not have been a proposal, is there interest from Barcelona (or anyone) in firmino?

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware but I expect as some point he will be the first of the "front three" eased out and replaced as I have expalined.}

I’d find it hard to say Bruno isn’t world class, there’s a lot of banter about him being a penalty merchant, but if signing Pedro goncalves mirrored the signing of Bruno, I’d encourage Liverpool to do it instantly.

ed0666, He got 23 league goals from midfield last year. So far this year he has 3 in 5 in the league and 2 in 2 in the UCL for Sporting. There are very clear parallels between him and Bruno Fernandes, predicting him to become world class similarly to his predecessor is a very reasonable statement in my opinion.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not knocking the prediction I’m merely asking as to reasons for it. You think Fernandes is workd class??

I mean he is underrated because he doesn’t have a sexy Brazilian name. He is a 23 year old English talent who is a first teamer for Leicester. I think he doesn’t get anywhere near the recognition he deserves. I’m not sure he’s even had an England call up. If you think he’s overrated Ed 1, I personally disagree.

{Ed001's Note - the media constantly big him up.}

Salah would be payed over 350k at any other top top club in the world. If Liverpool and FSG don’t want to/ can’t pay the best players the best wages, then we can’t have the best players.
