Hit send too early,
Why do we have to send him off like a legend?
He did well for Liverpool, he's going, his decision. Absolutely no way is he a legend.
1.) 21 Apr 2025

How is Trent not a legend? He's played 350 games. Holds the record for the most assists by a defender in the Premier League era. He leaves with 2x PL titles, 1x CL, 2x Carabao Cups, 1x FA Cup, 1x Super Cup, 1x Club World Cup and 1x Community Shield. 9 trophies for us and over 100 goals/ assists.
He is clearly a legend already. Nobody will ever forget the corner taken quickly moment. You don't have to like that he's leaving, and I don't even begrudge people losing respect for him. Because running down his contract for a free transfer to a horrible soulless club like Real Madrid (if it happens) is a bit shady. But why do we have to discredit his achievements? He's quite possibly the best player to come through our academy ever, hence why it hurts so much if he leaves.
The way I see it though, is there is no loyalty in business. When I was a young warthog, I did an Engineering apprenticeship. I was on £8,000 a year working 32 hours and doing about 18 hours of college work. I could barely afford to pay rent and run a car so I had to work an extra 16 hours on Saturday and Sunday for another £3000. 66 hours a week for 4 years for £11,000 a year. Worked my ass off to become an Engineer. You know what happened when I hit 21 and finished my apprenticeship? They made me redundant knowing I had a baby on the way. I ran my body and mind into the ground for 4 years and the second I was owed a significant pay rise, they cut me like I wasn't even human and gave me a £600 redundancy cheque.
If Trent wasn't a great player and he popped an ACL, we would not hesitate to bomb him out the club. People like you will say he's one of our own, but so are Curtis Jones and Jarrell Qunasah and they both take an unbelievable amount of abuse on here. Half of you want Quansah to walk the plank after a handful of bad games. So why do fans think loyalty only has to go one way? We expect the players to show undying love for the club, but then we want the club to be ruthless when it suits us. Do you think Lallana, Firmino, Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc wanted to go? They'd all have signed new contracts had they been offered them but they weren't offered anything; because their use to Liverpool FC had expired. Football is just business. Footballers are employees. If Trent goes, it is not personal and people would do well to remember that. I'd prefer he went to a more likeable club for a fee, but honestly he owes us nothing.

21 Apr 2025 09:16:50
2 league titles,1 European cup,1 fa cup,2/ 3 league cups,1 world club cup,1 super cup, top assists for a full back, if he goes he goes but don't forget what he's helped this club win.
3.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 09:25:18
I think he'll be remembered like Steve mcmanaman when he hangs up his boots if he leaves.
It's not a bad way to be remembered but he would have the chance to be remembered as much more if he stays.
4.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 09:45:28
Scouse lad, two premier league titles, champions league (plus another two finals and Europa league final), fa cup, two league cups, club World Cup,
most premier league assists for a defender and that “corner taken quickly” moment.
You can be angry at the way he’s leaving whilst still telling it like it is - he will leave a legend.
5.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:07:38
MK Scouser - Here here. he's given 20 years of his life to the Club and has a short career, compared to most of us work slaves who work until we drop.
Tribalism is all good and well, its part of human nature, but save the sanctimony. We do things differently than most clubs.
6.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:10:19
If he does go to Madrid he will be remembered as a good player but not a legend.
Really hope he stays personally. One of my favourite players.
7.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:14:31
That’s so ott. Perhaps the best player to come through the academy ever! He’s not even close to Gerrard as a footballer no where near.
8.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:17:59
The 3,000 travelling Reds, who were at the game yesterday showed what they think of Trent and that is really all that matters. I know blokes who were there and no one was booing him. Is he really bothered if there are a few dissenters on here. It would've been nice to have got a few bob for him, but we move on. Whether he's considered to be a legend is subjective and I don't really care. More importantly, I don't think Trent does either.
9.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:18:41
Noble words, MKS, and I wish I could be as adult about it.
No one would ever expect TAA to be a one-club scouser but it's the going on a free to RM that sticks in my infantile throat - like eating tapas with Sergio Ramos. I'll get there. Eventually.
10.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:22:39
This isn’t meant to be controversial but I think he’ll be seen as a legend by LFC fans outside of Liverpool and not so much by Local LFC fans.
You can’t knock what he’s achieved though with the club.
{Ed025's Note - but "Legend"JK?...not for me mate, its a term that is bandied about too much these days for me and even though he is very talented and a really nice guy(only met him once) he does not fit into that category, wand of a right foot of course and attacking wise very good but his main position has been as a defender which to be honest hes not very good at (just my opinion), i still dont know what his best position is to be honest, but to have Legendary status you have to be a king Kenny, Souness, Rush..possibly Salah to me, sometimes he has not even made the starting 11 and yes he has been part of a very successful team but not all of that has been down to him imo..
11.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:30:43
MKS, it seems to me (and @Wassa-lfc touched on this) that some people don't think Trent is a legend cos he didn't do what they wanted (whatever that is) .
Now I say this cos had Trent done what they wanted and when you include all he has achieved at the club personally and collective, he would be a legend of not just the LFC but in the PL period, IMO. The guy is unicorn at RB and there is NONE like him with his ability and skill set. You won't find any right now. Bradley is awesome BUT he ain't Trent, simple as.
As Wassa-lfc said, you can be angry that Trent did not do what you wanted BUT you cannot deny his individual and collective record as well as his immense contributions to getting us back on our feet and where we are. Sorry, that is just some sour grapes and bitter lemons, IMO.
12.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:38:34
MK . Trent a leg end that's about it . he's won a lot but how many goals has he gave away with his bad defending . only the fact that we had 3 strikers at the top of their game got us over the line on many occasions. the man is costing us MILLIONS of pounds . sick of the hero worship of him on here.
13.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:40:36
Good post MK. The only thing questionable about it is the part about him being the greatest ever to come from our academy but I get the overall sentiment.
Just to add on to, The issue has never been about loyalty. Many posters on here wanted him sold two years ago and claimed that Bradley was already twice the player he was back then. People are mostly upset because he's leaving on his terms instead of theirs.
14.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:41:40
He’s already given his word to our rivals that he is joining them on a free. He hasn’t even got enough respect for the Liverpool fans to say he is leaving. He wants everything his own way. He wants to leave for free and get a massive signing on bonus. While at the same time be loved by the Liverpool fans. It’s one or the other.
15.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:50:07
He hasn't given his word to RM yet that he'll be joining. If he has, RM would have shouted about it from every single rooftop in Spain and Liverpool. They wouldn't care about what Trent wants.
Trent has always maintained that he wants to keep all negotiations private. The fact that nothing is coming out for over a month, either from us or from RM, tells me that nothing has been decided or confirmed yet.
16.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:51:03
Do we mean “Legend” to be like King Arthur or a Unicorn or what? Never quite sure what “Legend” means these days.
17.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 10:59:00
He’s not a legend if he goes on a free transfer to Madrid. He’s just a transient employee like Owen or McManaman and nothing more.
As for being the best player to come through our academy, Fowler and Gerrard were both better by a country mile and it’s not even close.
18.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:03:56
It's such nonsense to me that people say Trent cost us goals consistently, even if that was true, how many did he make for us launching a perfect ball over the press and through the lines into space, or providing the direct assist himself? Trent being targeted is for better or worse part of our system and has been accounted for by both of our premier league winning managers, klopp basically tried to build his entire system upon Trent progressing the ball.
Is Trent somewhat below average defensively as a full back? Sure you can argue this to be true, but he's not as bad as a lot of people suggest and often under klopp he was made to look worse than he was simply by virtue or the role that the latterday klopp was asking him to play (and one that did not properly account for how we were to plug the hole he left after he inverted) .
I can't abide this stuff about how Trent is a liability and we will be so much better without him, that he's a luxury player, I feel like in response to folks like this he will feel like he can finally get the praise he deserves playing for a Barcelona or Madrid.
We are a better team with Trent in the side, watching him play was and is a singular delight. I dearly hope that he will for whatever reason decide to stay but even if he doesn't I'm not going to pretend that we will be great without him, his absence will be a big problem that slot will need to solve.
19.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:11:18
He's won a hell of a lot of trophies. But who is to say he doesn't win 3 more CLs and 5 more league titles if he went to Madrid?
I don't want him to go but we all make our own decisions in life and we only have the club to blame for not tying him up earlier.
20.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:01:57
Ed25 I agree the term is bandied about too much, but it's all subjective I guess isn't it?
That corner taken quickly moment will be something I remember for the rest if my life and for that alone he's a legend!
{Ed025's Note - it was a great bit of thinking Bmena and a very special moment, but one swallow does not make a summer as they say mate, good player but not a Legend for me..
21.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:02:40
I would agree with Ed25 that we use terms like legend and world class all too often.
What can’t be ignored is the role Trent has played at the Club in our most successful period. In 30 years, winning every trophy achievable and the PL twice, breaking that 3 decade weight on the shoulders of the club.
For that alone he should be respected. It’s unfortunate that so many of our own fans don’t appreciate what Trent done but hey, that’s the society we live in. Who knew!
{Ed025's Note - hes been an integral part of a very good team for a long time Irish and i have great respect for the guy and his achievements, just for me not right on that top rung with the others i have mentioned though mate..
22.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:19:26
If he stays gets to 600 league games, wins another premier league and champions league and improves his defending from 4/ 10 to 8/ 10 then maybe he will be known as a legend albeit he won't get anywhere near Phil Neal as our best right back / most decorated right back. Legends don't play like he did against Utd this season and leave to go to Madrid on a fee. No way Jose.
23.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:33:28
He’s signed a contract and honoured it to the last day. I don’t understand what he’s done wrong.
{Ed025's Note - absolutely nothing LFC8, i just dont get all the hate mate..
24.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:33:32
Maybe just maybe Trent is waiting to see the ambition of the club, VVD said he expects a big summer re transfers.
I’m of the mind it was we won’t sign till we see how Slot does, VVD and Salah did get done/ announced with less than 10 points required for the title.
Trent has now seen we are competitive, both re- sign, so could it be he is waiting to see how competitive in the market?
25.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:36:08
Summed it up perfectly for me Davey, not one person i know who supports Lfc wishes Trent well if he goes.
26.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:44:53
I wish Trent wanted to stay. I really do, but I just can't hate or disrespect the the guy for doing what he wants to do with his own life and career.
Also, I did say "possibly" the best to come through our academy because he is definitely in the debate, but the debate is completely subjective and I am not the all powerful authority on football opinions unlike Victor. For me he's as good as Gerrard, Owen and Fowler were. I won't let his potential departure cloud my judgement on him, because I think we all accepted not that long ago that we needed to sign him to a new deal because no other RB in world football can do what he does. Now it looks like he's leaving though, he's not even that good and he costs us loads of goals? 'Fickle' comes to mind.
I genuinely don't begrudge anybody wanting to have negative feelings towards him. You can feel betrayed. You can feel angry. You can feel sad. That's not a problem at all because emotions are natural and different for all of us. But trying to re-write history, deny his ability or wipe out the legacy he leaves behind is just revisionism at it's finest. If he wasn't a special player we wouldn't even be having this emotionally charged conversation.
27.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 11:56:30
Of course Salah is a legend as is VVD. We wouldn’t have won the major trophies without them. We would have won the league this year without Trent. Excellent thinking for the corner as stated but equally shocking defending in the final against Vini Junior.
Top player going forward, lacked defensive awareness. Not a patch on Salah, Alison or VVD.
28.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 12:55:26
Trent is great but to say he's the best to come out of the academy is outright stupid and disrespectful.
29.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 13:14:08
How is it stupid or disrespectful? It’s an opinion from one poster. You’re stupid for not being able to understand.
30.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 13:30:23
Mk, I'm not disputing what he's done.
And I don't get all the hate.
But he's not the best ever to come through the academy.
The 20 years service thing is a ridiculous thing to say. I'm not even going to explain that, as I don't want to insult your intelligence.
I love Trent and I get that he's had some amazing moments AND I don't get all the hate.
Djimi Traore won champ league - so you can't say he's a legend because of what he's won.
Mane won the lot with us. So did Bobby. Are they legends?
To me, a legend is somebody who is more than what he's won.
It's what he embodies.
He's great, was brilliant for us, I love him.
He's not an LFC legend.
31.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 14:36:13
I agree with Ed025 he’s the tier below legend status. Those are players like Rush, Salah, Suarez, Hansen, Gerrard, Hunt, Barnes, Souness, Phil Neal. TAA not quite done enough for me, I agree with Ed25.
32.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 14:42:41
MK . Lay off the booze or you've had too many Easter eggs. Trent is nowhere near the Gerrards Fowlers owens or even the other rat Macmanaman in terms of ability.
33.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 15:16:29
Hessle, Suarez a Liverpool legend and Trent isn't? I'm not saying Trent is but come on lol that's ridiculous.
34.) 21 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 16:16:19
no, you are stupid for not being able to read, opinions are fine, facts are different though and Fowler and Gerrard being better players than trent is a fact not opinion, football didn't start 20 years ago.
35.) 22 Apr 2025
21 Apr 2025 18:06:03
Never mind that people think trent is wrong to leave us the thing everybody needs to remember Trent is a scouser that is worth more!
