{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, Liverpool v Newcastle United - A Quick Liverpool Perspective

Excellent review Ed. A lot of the points about lack of squad use and continuing to run tired legs in to the ground I completely agree with but feel hesitant to post myself lest some of the posters on here tell me I'm a not a true fan and I'm not allowed to question Slot on this or be dissapointed because of our league position.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Red. Slot has done brilliantly but that doesn't mean he hasn't got things wrong too. Klopp will always be a legend and we all love him, but he failed to win as much as he should have done too. It doesn't make us love him or the club any less because we see that.}

Many thanks for your review, Ed. I always wait for these reviews of yours. The selection was indeed weird and I still haven't got over it fully. I think we missed a golden opportunity to win a cup by being stubborn for no reason. People have been dismissive about Chiesa and although I like him, I can understand because nobody has really seen him play at Liverpool so you can always give the benefit of doubt to management as they see him say in say out. But to not play Endo in that game was criminal. Also the entire season we saw Curtis given ample game time. There were times when he was chosen at the left wing or even as a forward. I don't know why he didn't start either to give the main guys a much needed rest.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome and thank you Das. Hopefully Slot will learn from that week and we recruit some players he trusts that we can rotate.}

ED001 If i was writing a review about that game I'd have said everything you said . comical with Macallister on Burn, we look shattered, worrying thing is Everton will play exactly like Newcastle, n as u say we need someone to fight esp in the middle of the park, but I think Slot will pick the same team again . hopefully the 2 weeks off n being in a different environment on international duty will help the players.

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed a fair few will have rested a bit.}

Tough read that but can't say I disagree with too much unfortunately! I really do hope endo+ cheisa start against everton and I would also try chiesa up top.
I think we need the energy they will undoubtedly bring, whether chiesa cut out for playing up top I'm not sure but he something different and really we don't have much too lose at minute considering jota+ nunez form.

great review as usual Ed. Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - thanks stone, glad you enjoyed mate. It was a hard one to write - it began by expanding on "we were f***ing sh**e"!}

Great review, Ed. Spot on.

I saw some analyst on RedMenTV showing how Newcastle shifted their midfield over to their left off the ball to completely cut out the passing options to Mo, while giving Livramento instruction to drive forward. They banked on us doing nothing down the left handside.

Spot on edd001. You sum the game up exactly as most of us do. It’s worrying that slot has no confidence in the squad players, interesting to see what he does with these players during the transfer window. Its even more worrying that he persisted with zonal marking when Newcastle’s aim was to hit burn at every opportunity, vvd would was the obvious fix for Dan burn.

Is that stubbornness, I hope not?!

Great read, don’t envy anyone having to watch that again to write a report.

Is it more on him being loyal to players that has perform well early in the season or him not trusting the squad player more Ed? Because seeing how Endo and Elliot has perform reasonably well when being given chances, its hard to think that they cannot be trusted more.

{Ed001's Note - it is about a lack of trust mate, he keeps admitting that Endo is proving him wrong but still only brings him on late for example. No manager is perfect and all of them have their weaknesses. I am sure this will be resolved by bringing in players he does trust to give him options.}

Great review Ed.

In this cup, slot was using squad players that is why he chose kelleher. Now, he should have been consistent and same way, should have picked endo, cheese, elliot etc.

If they had not played well then he could have made changes later in the game.

Or if all big players played because it was a final then play Allison as well

Hope he learns from it quickly as liverpool can dominate the league and win cups in the next 3 to 4 years if slots learns quickly.

{Ed001's Note - thanks Nabeel.}

Great read, Ed01. Couldn't watch the game as I had my son's B day on the same day and the game was not even on TV. However based on the fall out I had read about the game so far, you seem to have covered everything.

Slot had a 'mare on so many levels in this game, it was hilarious. He has had multiple chances to play Chiesa, Elliott and Endo this season BUT would rather keep plyer players that were visibly in the red physically rather than bringing some fresh legs on even when games were won already.

Vs Everton, Villa, PSG, etc., he hd chances to bring fresh legs on BUT would never do it. Hopefully, he has learnt his lesson and will improve; As fo the Macca v Burn, I have NO idea why not a soul said to Slot, "Gaffer Im sorry BUT this can no longer continue". We move on.

{Ed001's Note - that last bit is worrying, as it continued in the second half. What was the set piece coach thinking? Surely the coaching staff had to realise it wasn't working after Burn scored?}

That makes me wonder Ed, why are we even bringing in Chiesa? Usually when new manager come in, you would assume that he will somehow has some input in player to be sign. And as you say, the player he will trust. That doesn't even seem the case with Chiesa.

New player but barely play even when he does seem fit to play more games. Hoping that in this summer window, Slot and everyone involves need to make the right signing that Slot will use more. Its a waste of money if Hughes sign players that Slot won't bother to play. Got a feeling that Mamardashvilli would be the same case.

{Ed001's Note - Hughes saw an opportunity with Chiesa and jumped into it quickly. He was under pressure, it is understandable that he wanted to do something to prove his worth and it was a bargain signing. I don't really think that is the issue. The issue is that it was a player that has played his best football on the left wing and we simply didn't need that. But he should have been a good Milner for the forwards type of signing.}

Ed001 where was Chiesa playing when he came on please mate? I thought he was at centre forward but realised Nunez was on the pitch along with Salah and Gakpo and I can’t stomach to watch the game again.

{Ed001's Note - he seemed to have a free role. Bit difficult to really tie anyone down as it was very chaotic at that point, with everyone pretty much being thrown up front. I am not sure anyone had an actual position by that point.}

Mr Slot has publicly said he prefers to play with a smaller group of players. Only this week I saw him being questioned regarding this.
Regardless who leaves and the replacements coming in he will use his core players and a few of effectively the spare players.

I think Klopp was unlucky not to win more. If you get 92/ 97 points and don’t win it you just have to hold your hands up. I think we win the treble in 19/ 20 if Adrian didn’t mess up in the games vs Atletico and Chelsea.

18.) 22 Mar 2025

OneKiss, we weren't going to win the treble in 19/ 20 cos Chelsea eliminated us at the Bridge 2-1, a game happened well bfore the Atleti CL tie.

Now had we beaten Atleti which we should have cos Salah and Mane wissed every chance that came their way before the Adrian incident, then I think we zre deo in for the PL/ CL double. In fact, Bobbie referred to this in his book about how the players knew that had they beaten Atleti, they thought the CL/ PL double was On, for sure.

The Chelsea game was a week before the 2nd leg. Adrian threw one into his own net. He was a disaster of a player. Klopp got the team selection all wrong though. Rotated in the cup when we were miles ahead in the league then went full strength in the league that weekend should have been the other way around.

OneKiss, it's all in the past now. Im over it. We broke our 30 year drought. That's all I care about.
