Ed0666 I thought last night showed we are close to being in big trouble. FSG are not going to spend the money needed to keep us challenging city with the likes of Mane definitely not the same player he was 2 years ago same for Firminho. Jota is nowhere near there level if he does not score he may as well not be on the pitch most of the time. With most of are squad the wrong side of 28 am not sure how much we could get for players to bring in new ones. We cannot afford to lose Salah and even if we do sell him at 30 am not sure how much we would get but what ever we did am not sure it would be enough to replace him. Am not sure with the backing that Klopp gets he can turn things around before his contract ends 2024.
I know this seems a bit over the top after last nights game but am just looking at most of the players in are squad there I'm not a great deal of sell on value and with the price of players now it looks a very tricky position we are in.

{Ed0666's Note - We need an overhaul this summer it’s simple. I agree not many of those players have much sell on value but if we can get 20 mill for Mane, £10 mill for Bobby, £10 mill for ox, £15 mill for Philips, 15 mill for Nico, £20 mill for Thiago, £15 mill for Divvy, and crumbs for certain others than I think there will be enough of a pot for us to do some business. I truly expect Salah to stay but if he goes then let’s face it well officially be in chaos. An athlete probably hasn’t been in such an enviable position when negotiating a contract as Salah is now. And to be honest he deserves it. The guy deserves his pay off he’s such a wonderful human being, does so much for charity and isn’t bad at football either. Going back to the aforementioned overhaul I would purge in the summer and if it means a season of wilderness than so be it. One things for sure after last night Klopp knows this is a sorry situation at the moment and he’ll be looking at solutions.

I know he's dropped off a bit, but who's paying 15m for Origi if an extra 5m could get you a Mane? 🤣🤣.

It’s not OTT. Its just beginning to filter through to the tv screens now
Some on here that actually watch us live have been saying all this for months, I’m glad fans are seeing it finally.
We need players.

Your figures aren't far off mine Ed666. Keita would be worth something to some club, mainly due to his age, 26 I think? Maybe £15 million. Ben Davies and Rhys Williams? Who knows? Milner, Adrian, Karius of the wages too. A fair bit of work to do.

In fairness a lot of this seasons issues were reasonably foreseeable. We didn’t replace our most reliable and available midfielder, knowing that all of Henderson, Fabinho, Ox, Keita and Thiago have suffered injuries that keep them out for periods of time almost every season, it was evident that Milner was on his last legs last season and now it’s there for all to see. Then there’s the fact that we knew we’d be without Mane and Salah for over a month but chose not to act. I’m not getting my hopes up for the summer as It’s known we’re looking at the likes of Sanches or Kessie for midfield and Traore ot Dembele up top because they’re perceived as being cheap and available, which is as about as depressing as a Morrissey album of Radiohead covers.

No ones paying £15m for Divock full stop, nor most of the other prices on Ed's list😆. and personally id rather keep Manè than accept anything like £20m for him, the bloke still gets 20 a season from the wing.

Ed066,

Interesting outs. And - assuming we get said money based on values you've given to the aforementioned players - what changes would you make (youth team promotions and transfers)?

Cheers.

{Ed0666's Note - Incomings: Diaz, Dennis, David, Zakaria, Noussair MazraouI. There will need to be cheap squad padders who can step up who I can’t think of at the moment as I’m about to step on the squash court. I have no knowledge about the kids so have no idea who to promote to the first team but I do like the look of Ian Rush’ great nephew.

Sorry, but unless you could forsee C. V you certainly couldn't forsee this seasons issues. Without the disaster of the previous 2 seasons then worked would have been done to our squad already in my humble opinion.

The truth is none of us know the finances of the club but what we do know is under FSG we’ve always sold to buy long before CV came along. Unfortunately since Couts left we’ve had no one to sell of any great value that Klopp didn’t want to keep. And anyone he was willing to let go no one else wanted.

If we have to sell big for a rebuild then that puts one or a couple of Allison, Fab, Salah, Vvd, Trent or Robbo’s heads on the chopping block. Because we ain’t buying big unless we sell big.

Ed0666 you can scrap the Origi fee his out of contract in the summer. For me Ed that’s really bad management because that’s Origi Gini Moreno and Emre Can. All should have been sold. For something but most of the time Moreno club wanted to much money Origi should have been sold after the champions league win we his value was at his highest because it was obvious he was never pushing for place in the team.
The really sad things is I can’t see Klopp building a team capable of challenging in that time left on his contract unless he signs a new deal.
I think FSG have done a good job from the state we was in when they took over but I think they have taken us as far as they can and once the anfield road stand in done it might be best all round for them to cash in.

{Ed0666's Note - not sure there going anytime soon Grino. Hope springs eternal

Cheers.

We haven’t got the finances for the rebuild we need. We should of been moving players and adding every season.

19.) 14 Jan 2022
14 Jan 2022 15:28:33
Selling the players that need to be moved on is going to generate enough for 1 or 2 players maximum because they won't all be sold. who's willing to take them. If salah goes this club is in tatters.
They never invested after we won the league, and they won't now.

Spot on, JK23. You have described the actual reality on the ground. Ed02 has given us multiple glimpses of what our finances look like currently BUT it seems many on here don't want to believe any of it. For people saying we did not act to get players in as Mane and Salah would be off to AFCON, there were many on here who said we would be fine since Ox, Divvy and Mino were contributing in the EFL/ PL and CL when called upon. Now cos we didn't win a game, the goal posts have shifted. Reactionary, much?

@Irish Rover, your first post is spot on as well regarding how nobody could have foreseen CV coming which derailed our ability to recruit based on the model FSG have been running and I have said this a lot, I believe we were ready to spend in the summer of 2020 and CV blew all that up and we ain't been back since. For this rebuild to happen, we have to sell big which IMO, won't happen apart from maybe Mane as he has not resigned a new deal and we could yet keep him depending on the situation. Just my take.

It's OK saying we will sell players to fund an overhaul. If we sell those players we need to also replace them. If we sell Bobby for 10 mil for example we need to find a striker capable of challenging for the Premier league and champions league for 10mil or less?

If you total up eds estimates
Mane 20mil
Bobby 10 mil
Ox 10 mil
Thiago 20 mil
Neco 15 mil
Philips 15 mil
Divock 15 mil

So we need to replace 7 players with 105 mil, 15 mil per player. I know we've found some gems in the past but we can't do that every time.

25.) 14 Jan 2022
14 Jan 2022 16:23:07
FSG are not going to do a purge or a fire sale. They are ruthless business people who will continue to squeeze value from wherever possible.

We don't need a massive overhaul but we are a few signings behind now where we should be. We needed a midfielder (to replace Gini) and forward (to replace Shaq) in the summer in addition to bringing in Konate, but were unable to do so for the financial reasons often discussed here.

As we go into the next summer, I think we now need 4 - 2 midfielders and 2 forwards. Signing 4 players is very tricky for FSG/ Klopp so I think we'll end up still being 2 signings behind again next season unless we get surprisingly high bids for one or both of Mane and Bobby.

26.) 14 Jan 2022
14 Jan 2022 16:27:28
Ashy. Man City are basically operating with a squad of 19 players this season and that includes 2 keepers. Liverpool have a squad of 25 players. That doesn't include the likes of Morton, Bradley, Gordon or Adrian etc.

Quality over quantity maybe? Personally I would add Keita and Minamino to that group.

30.) 14 Jan 2022
14 Jan 2022 17:56:43
Not enough quality in there @Irish. Salah is literally carrying us one way or the other. When he plays teams expect us to score and when he doesn’t they don’t give a damn!
Despite the billions spend according to OliRed we are utterly toothless upfront without Salah.

I still don't think we need a major overhual this summer and nor do I think that doing that would be wise anyways. The way Klopp builds his squad, he might as well leave 2 seasons early if we are going to do a major overhaul and let someone else come in. The one area where I think there should be some moving and shaking is in midfield with some tinkering up top. That can happen over two summers imo.
