Afternoon Tris and all the other posters,

How did you rate the young guns last night Ed?

My view.

Brewster - Played deeper than he normally would and at times slightly wider. Obviously Klopp wanted to use him in various positions, the Bobby role (which didn't suit him) and out right. He does link with play quite well but one thing he struggles with is winning aerial battles and is a bit weak physically.

Elliott - Outstanding, his awareness was what impresses me and the fact he runs with his head up and isn't afraid to play the simple yet sensible pass when needed. On the otherside he isn't afraid to take players on and have a go. Amazing feet and a remarkably mature player for such a young age. . Magnificent debut, far to say jaw dropping at times.

Jones - A very strong performance, love the fact he can use two feet and like Elliott has his head up. Grown a lot physiclaly to what he was a year or so ago, would've comfortably been my MOTM had it not been for a certain 16 year old.


Hoever - Mixed bag really, i saw a lot of Joe Gomez in him. He is great on the ball in defensive areas but not so great at marauding forward with it. He for me is a centre half, scored a lovely goal with his head almost Van Dijk esque!

Keheller - Nice, assured and dominant. Can play with his feet which is good to see and made soem important stops. A little bit tetchy coming out and nearly got into bother once or twice but he got away with it. You can see who he models himself on that's for sure.

{Ed001's Note - Brewster got no service and offered little.

Elliott did well. Very well.

Jones was good but terrible decision making at times.

Hoever was too timid and did not get forward enough in wide areas to offer any support. When he did get forward he scored.

Kelleher was assured, though flapped at a cross or two, the rest of the time he was excellent.

To be perfectly honest though, I would not be worrying about any of it. It is just one game in a makeshift side. The only thing that matters is the experience they will have gained, not how they performed. I would rather they made mistakes as they will then have something to learn from for the future.}

Seen Elliot a couple of times, including pre season, something about him makes me think he’s going to be a really good player should he apply himself and work hard.

i agree ed the result and one off game is not important for them. there have been 100's of players who've made their debut for us and then not become a regular.

i am just hoping that getting that debut will give them that extra drive and determination to make it.

Thought all the youngsters played great for sections of the match Elliott aside was up for it for the full 90 looks to have great football intelligence. More valuable for them all though has to be the competitive match experience with the seasoned pros like Milner, Lovren and Lallana so if any are needed during a selection crisis they're going to be better prepared.

The thing that impressed me most with Elliott. Is for anyone who has played football at any level let alone for a premiership team at 16! They will know how difficult it is to only take one touch on the ball. And several times he had ball fizzed into him. And he wouldn't have a touch, he was just flicking it around the corner or playing first time ball into teammates feet! As simple as it looks, its actually very difficult and takes so much technique and vision knowing what's around you. And so impressive given his age, as usually comes with experience. Let's hope he works hard and keeps a level head. Well done Harvey.
