The better team lost in my opinion.
We weren't very good but still managed a win. That's all that counts.

I thought VAR was supposed to get decisions right. that was never a penalty.

If the penalty wasn't awarded, then it will be 2-1. The team that score more are always the better team in my opinion. Peace.

I think we created more chances than Chelsea and shots on target. What surprised me is how many attempts they had! Our defence needs a bit of work. It was a good game by both teams.

Not sure that was a clear and obvious error from the ref for the VAR to intervene.

The whole point of technology is to get decisions right (as far as human subjectivity allows) . I think the way Premier League is implementing it is much better than Europe because in PL they don’t care about the on pitch referee and don’t only overrule clear and obvious errors (whatever that is) but will overrule on all errors.

Everyone that saw the penalty incident yesterday agreed that it deserved at least a reconsideration by the referee, except the VAR officials. Perhaps they were too worried about overruling the referee due to non-footballing reasons (first female referee and all) .

I’m glad we went onto win otherwise the referee would have come to receive a lot of abuse. And it wouldn’t have been her fault that the VAR tried to overprotect her.

In my opinion we were the better team and yes I agree, never a penalty, it surprised me how quick she made the decision to give it!

I thought it was a pretty even match, both teams could have won. VAR decision was rediculous.

This was a match where we needed to avoid injuries and although Chelsea looked good, we played the match in 1st gear. Looks like Chelsea will struggle upfront this season. Lampard has a massive mountain to climb and to be honest, the look he had on his face while waiting for the medals to be handed out shows he does not know what he got himself into.

Maybe Klopp is asking the players not to go all out yet, pacing the team as there is a long season ahead.

Lapses of concentration and untidiness are the reasons why our defence is not up to scratch compared to last season. Just a couple of slaps and it should be sorted.

Winning the trophy will add confidence and winning becomes a habit :-)

I thought Chelsea played very well, overall and exposed our serious shortcomings that need to be addressed. Were they the better team, tho? I don't know for sure cos well, we had the better chances, hit the post. double save from Kepa from Salah and VVD and a couple of other openings. Chelsea had no shots on target in the second half so we got to consider that as well.

As for the penalty, VAR should have intervened to overrule the ref. Them not doing that in a bid to say, "protect the female" ref" stuff, is doing a huge disservice to her cos for me, I want more women to be refs and all that. I do not support the fact that they need to be protected when she makes a mistake. If a male ref should not be protected then a female ref should not, either. All in all, I'm happy we won cos it will make for a good atmosphere heading into the Saints game.

Great teams find a way to win even when they aren't at their best. I don't agree however that Chelsea were the better team. They were in spurts, but overall they were not.

2 games in and the majority of the first team squad have been given minutes. Only players not to get any yet are Kieta (niggle), Lallana and Shaq (plus the youngsters) . And Not forgetting Lovren but rumour is he could be off. Interesting to see that Ox who most see as a centre mid has leap frogged Shaq currently for a front 3 role.
