Enjoyed that mate, huge thumbs up. Was there a similar will he won't he with Drogba to West ham but West ham couldn't afford the 2ml million pound fee. I might have dreamt that but I do have some sort of recollection. I'm also pretty sure Blackburn were after duggary the same time as that Zidane deal.

{Ed001's Note - there are loads more but I didn't have long as I had to throw something together due to there not being enough news for a review of the day.}

Ed, just how badly was our club run during the 90’s to before FSG took over?
It honestly sounds like my dog could have done a better job than the idiots we seemed to have had in charge during that time.

Nice reading anyway, thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I am in the middle of an article on Rick Parry and the guy was utter incompetence. To be honest I know a lot of people think Peter Robinson, who preceded him was good, but he started the stagnation for me.}

Even with the bar set so high this post was one of the better ones I’ve read in a while. Fascinating.

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate. It was only something quick I put together as there was so little news about.}

We never capitalised on the global appeal of the club in the 90s an when premiership was introduced, that's where man united got a head start, we were stick in the mud for a long time, fsg are the best owners I have witnessed at anfield in 35 years .

{Ed001's Note - it was long before that the rot set in. We were behind commercially in the 80s, still stuck being run like it was the 70s and nothing changed until, to be fair to them, Gillett & Hicks took over. Hicks in particular wanted to make a lot of changes but the board had Parry and Moores on it blocking a lot of the stuff he wanted to do.}

Fantastic article Ed001. Great read from start to finish.

I would love to hear more about Parry and his incompetence.

Have you ever thought about doing these articles in podcast format? Just you and a microphone so you could add your commentary as you read through the articles?

Red Sandman.

{Ed001's Note - funnily enough I am in the middle of writing an 'And Finally...' podcast, it just takes a lot longer to write enough to fill up the time than a short article like this. I was thinking of doing more articles in podcast format, simply because it would be quicker to do than doing them this way.

Or were you meaning an article like this one being turned into a podcast with me adding my own commentary on top of the stories? Or even taking some of the older articles and making them into podcasts by reading out what is written with added commentary?

Just wondering what you were thinking as all of those are possible.

I should hopefully get the Parry article finished soon, it is just that I keep remembering things that didn't turn up while I was searching and having to do some fact checking to see if I am remembering them correctly.}

Cheers Ed. Interesting to think how different these players careers would have been had those moves gone through.
What happened with David Villa. Was he ever close to moving to us?

{Ed001's Note - yes, him and David Silva were part of a double deal that Parry (yes him again) messed up. I don't even want to get into a list of all the mess ups he made in the transfer realm, there are just too many. He was utterly inept and it is just ridiculous that he made millions out of the club and is making more millions as a 'football advisor' when he knows f all about the game.}

Which ever is easiest for you Ed001. I am just being selfish in wanting you to put more audio content out there because i have loved all your previous podcasts. I think a lot of the attraction of your content comes from when you add your own personal opinion to things (at least for me it is) .

Lots of people prefer getting their content audibly these days too, especially on a morning commute its easier just to pop the headphones in than to have to sit and read an article.

If the podcasts get enough downloads it could be a great way to attract some sponsors too. Lots of people nowadays are making a decent living from podcasting.

Red Sandman.

{Ed001's Note - podcasts are much easier to do. Rather than having to research it, then organise the notes and then write it, edit it, rewrite it again to actually have it make sense and then spellcheck etc, once you organise the notes you can just tell the story direct from notes into a mic or phone. That was why I was intending to do more podcasts, though they won't have the polish of Ed002's brilliant Sharkopods with the fantastic ads and erm interesting music he uses.}

Personally Ed as someone who reads a lot of your articles, your writing is fantastic and I love it for the more factual based daily news articles etc.

However on articles like this I think a short podcast form could be the way as there is a lot more room for personal input and voice is always good for more comical pieces.

Also the past legends articles if you have personal input or thoughts on the person again short podcast would work great imo.

That is my two cents don't know whether others will agree but from your poi t I suppose it would more come down to which is easier time wise for you and preferably (although I know it is not your main reason for this site) which generates more clicks.

Have a good day anyway Ed, I got locked out of my old account (ShaneK_LFC) however it is linked with a now dead mail account so can not retrieve.

{Ed001's Note - I was wondering if there was room for both? I wouldn't want to stop writing the articles, I enjoy writing, but there is nothing to stop the articles being done as podcasts as well. Just like having an audio book or ebook then I guess. Except I am not sure if audio books get bogged down by the guy reading it going off on a tangent with some unrelated story that came to mind?}

They are both obviously differing skills. Having listened to some of the podcasts you have done you are quite good and easy to listen to. I would say there is room for improvement but that is impossible without actually doing it, same as anything. If it is something you WANT to do then please do. I will certainly listen as there are times when I am rushed and may not have time to sit down and read an article but would certainly be able to listen to it while doing something.

{Ed001's Note - it is an excuse to get away from the keyboard for a break to be honest. A change is as good as a rest after all! So I am intending to do them at some point.}

Oh I was waiting for the Review of the Day. I was actually hoping that you'll cover on Griezmann's comment about Athletico. Hoping to read how you view it.

Regardless, this is a good article Ed. Kinda new to me about that Gerrard part. I actually thought he almost joined Chelsea only once.

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate that was pretty much the entire news and I couldn't stretch out a dig at Griezmann for long enough to turn it into a full article!

Glad you enjoyed the article and yes most people only remember it as once but it was a couple of times he came close.}

I actually prefer them to be articles. Have listened a few of your podcasts, but maybe because of the slang/ dialect I couldn't actually understand them entirely.

Even some of the jokes in here I couldn't enjoy. Pity me.

{Ed001's Note - I won't stop doing the articles don't worry.}

Interesting read, thanks.

Read up more on the Di Stefano story and seems there are a lot of theories that Franco had some kind of interference which is why he signed for Madrid.

That got me thinking, please could you do an article on when politics has famously interfered with football? (if that hasn't already been done/ requested) . Not just transfer related, just a general football related theme something like "when Politics and Football collide".

{Ed001's Note - I have added that to my to do list and you are right Franco did interfere. He interfered a lot which is why Madrid won so much.}
