Now Klopps had a good up close look at Nunez, do we have any chance of getting him EDs? If City get Haaland then us getting this guy would equal that signing in my eyes, think he would have the same impact as Diaz has had, but more central.

{Ed002's Note - Darwin Nunez (S) Benfica don't want to sell Nunez but they have had serious interest from several sides. Long term followers Manchester City enquired about Darwin Nunez again last summer were told he won't be available before the summer of 2022. He is not their preferred choice but they could yet return with a good offer if they cannot sign either of their preferred choices. Borussia Dortmund are also keen on him as an option to replace Haaland when he leaves in the summer, but they have a preferred choice and price is likely too high for them. Bayern Munich could cash in on the last year of Lewandowski’s contract in the summer and look to a replacement – but they have several other options in mind. Milan have a sustained interest and tried to sign him before he moved to Benfica, but significant financial issues mean they will need to sell other assets as they have other players they wish to add as well - and he is the most expensive of their primary Ibrahimovich replacement targets – they can be discounted as I expect Ibrahimovic will stay another year anyway. Manchester United had a very high-end scout and ex-Premier League player look at him on several occasions on their behalf. Barcelona have enquired, knowing that signing their preferred option is difficult, but were told they would have to pay his full €150M release clause to sign him. Inter want to replace Alexis Sanchez with Nunez but moving on Sanchez is a serious problem for them – he has no value and will want to see out his contract on his last major salary in Europe. Suarez will leave Atletico in the summer, and they might provide a viable solution – but they would not be able to pay his release clause and could only make something happen if Benfica would accept more than one player as part of the deal. Brighton, West Ham, Newcastle and Arsenal have shown an interest but are far from attractive options and most certainly a step back - although Arsenal might push. Chelsea have scouted Nunez and he has been recommended by an ex-player who was approached to be the new Sporting Director - but it is unlikely the club will push unless Lukaku leaves permanently. Do not rule out a bid from PSG. Scouts from many other sides, including Roma, Newcastle and Spurs have been watching a number of Benfica players - including Nunez. I am not aware of interest from Liverpool, nor where he would fit in without a change of tactics. Benfica will look to achieve at least €80M.}

Ed’s when you say change of tactics I don’t see that is relevent IMO I think the fluidity of Liverpool’s attacking players would allow for such a signing .
I think he would be a perfect Bobby replacement if he wer to leave . Looks like he could play up top for us.

{Ed002's Note - Well I don't think he is anything like Firmino. And Liverpool are not looking to replace Firmino.}

For me (admittedly little I saw of him against us), he would be more in the Jota mould instead of Firmino. He didn't really get a chance to hold up, because of Benfica playing on the counter.
Anyway, with Mane moving central we already have Bobby, Jota, Mane for the striker position. Imo, we need to focus on a young right winger (as backup for Salah), or maybe Gordon can step up.
If Salah leaves though, then we need someone like Antony/ Raphinha/ Dembele (? ) .

Ed002 is correct he is nothing like Bobby. Out of the front line Bobby is likely the one with the most longevity so can’t see him leaving anyway.

Why do folks keep talking about replacing Bobby? Last year loads saying let mane go too. Look how that’s turned out he has been on fire since afcon. I honestly don’t know what some people see when watching us play.

I suspect the club has a different way of looking at it.

I think they probably have a plan of how they want to develop / enhance the system they want to play and then look for players with the skills to fit the system and the character to build on the spirit within the club.

From a fan’s perspective it’s fun to read the rumours pages on media outlets and imagine the latest “next big thing” playing for us but very few of us (if any) would have picked Our recent signings, Jota or Tsimikas or Konate or Diaz as our number choice (if any number at all) .

I didn’t say he was like Bobby I said I thought he would be a great replacement should Bobby leave which is a possibility with only having 12 months left and not signed a contract . And I’m not wishing Bobby to leave I’m just saying if he did leave IMO nunez would be a great replacement. Football is an opinions game respecting others opinions doesn’t mean you have to agree .

If players are good enough they adapt Bobby was an attacking midfielder when we signed him players teams and roles change yearly so I wouldn’t say nunez can only play a certain way he will adapt his game to his team whoever that may be and hopefully continue his upward trajectory. I was just really impressed with his finishing when we played benfica.
