Why would he want to move to perennial euro semi-finalists?

If the story is even true!

While I'm sure he would turn them down considering his past comments about Liverpool. They can't afford him anyway, likely just a rumour.

Never happened.

Didn’t know Barcelona had a spare billion euros!

Wasn't there some ridiculous clause about how much extra Barcelona had to pay for one of our players? Or is that just paper BS?

I thought it was just that the full Coutinho fee would become payable if they buy another of our players. Wonder how that would work if he leaves.

I think they're stuck with Coutinho for the time being. There's only a handful of clubs than can afford him, and I don't think any of them are interested.

I think the only viable destination this summer is Manchester United, but he's already ruled himself out of that move. Maybe Chelsea in a year. Or maybe they can offload him to PSG as part of a deal for Neymar.

There's no way they could afford him anyway. Griezmann and De Jong at big money, then they're looking to sign Neymar for even more, and they still haven't reduced their wage bill with Suarez, Messi, Couts, Dembele etc still banging about.

Virgil is happy for now but I wouldn’t be surprised in a year or two if Real Madrid or Barcelona show serious interest that he will push to leave.

Yea the rumours I’ve heard (websites etc) is that Barcelona want to include him in the neymar deal. But still be interesting to know how that clause would work if he’s sold.

Could this alleged approach be considered tapping up eds?

{Ed002's Note - Of course it isn't. But putting aside all of the completely stupid responses, perhaps van Dijk would do to Liverpool what Liverpool had him do to Southampton?}

Was just about to say the same Ed002. The absolute biased blinkered rubbish some Liverpool fans spout is vomit inducing. I'm a Liverpool fan and love Virgil, but I'm under no illusions that if he feels the move would be better for him that he wouldn't push for it. Same goes for any player. It's about time some fans opened their eyes and got used to the fact that liverpool isn't the centre of the universe for these players. It's a job, and as in all walks of life people change jobs for what THEY perceive to be a better opportunity.

Whether this story is true or not I never really understand peoples surprise if one of our players leaves. Real Madrid and Barcelona and PSG all pay considerably higher wages, why wouldn't you go? Neymar left Barcelona after all. What'
s Bale on in Spain more than he'd get in the premier league I imagine,
