Souness said hat Klopp will go after Fekir after all, exciting times for LFC.

I doubt it now. mane has took no10.

2.) 20 Jul 2018
20 Jul 2018 19:12:12
Come on. You really think squad numbers make a difference to transfer policy? By that logic, Mane getting number 10 could equally just be the club assuring him of his importance. If they want Fekir, the available squad numbers won't impact that.

3.) 20 Jul 2018
20 Jul 2018 19:22:50
Is he involved with the club still?

4.) 20 Jul 2018
20 Jul 2018 19:28:23
Like many of the old Liverpool players I would guess souness still has a lot of involvement in the club and a lot of contacts in there too. He might not know everything that's going on though, I reckon the fekir comment was probably his own thought on the situation.

Honestly, I don’t see Fekir coming in this season. I don’t see how LFC could comply with FFP if they don’t unload some players already. The wage bill was the third highest in the PL last season, and has only grown larger.

However, I don’t see this as a negative. I believe one of the Eds has mentioned that Pulisic would not be available this summer. I’d love to hold off if that means we can bring him in next year. This may be a bit of American bias, but I think he will become a better player than Fekir in the next season, maybe two, and also a much better investment as he is a younger talent. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Fekir in. I rate him highly. But it seems to me it could be better for the club long term if he’s passed upon.

Also, there’s a lot of clamoring on about needing a creative midfielder, especially with Ox out. If we keep as is, our first choice midfield would be Fabinho in the 6, Hendo in the 8, and Keita in the 10 (in my opinion, of course) . If that’s how it plays out, Hendo can be pushed further forward than last season allowing him to do all the tireless work many expect from Keita. Keita will still be able to do this, but with Hendo and Fabinho in behind, he can sit further up and focus more on creating. Thus easing our need for a creative midfielder.

The squad is irrelevant, Mane was the number 10 at Southampton. Numbers do not impact a players decision to come to a club. The club will still need to offload several players and will raise money that way or via loan fees. If they were to offload players they can easily raise enough to stay in compliance. Plus we are due the money for the Champions League and I think we were in line of making nearly 70m pounds. The 13m we made from Ward and the sale of others should bring the club in line with FFP, plus that would not impact us until next season (19/ 20). So there will be time to raise the funds.

20 Jul 2018 21:51:41
I’m confused at the idea that Fekir isn’t coming because Mane now has the 10 shirt. Fekir wears 18 for Lyon so I’m not sure he’s bothered about having the 10 shirt.

Exactly Creg. Moreno out!

10.) 20 Jul 2018

Also mane wears 10 for Senegal.

11.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 02:24:51
Do not understand how we can breach FFP we sold Couts and Ward for about 155 million and spent about the same so far this window, I think over Klopp's reign he has only net spend is about 80 million over 5 transfer windows.

12.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 03:15:49
We have to offload before buying, Klopp already said that. If the likes of Grujic, Origi, Ings, Markovic can be offloaded, I think the Fekir deal can happen this season.

13.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 03:18:48
Well see what happens personally I want Fekir I hope it happens but I don’t think it will unless we do offload a few players maybe there will be drama on deadline day 😄.

14.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 04:38:54
The club is nowhere near FFP problems. Further sales will only strengthen the position. This is the adventure of qualifying for and doing well in the Champions league. Selling Coutinho didn't hurt either.

15.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 08:34:09
You still sticking with that line about the club being rich and swimming in cash then Christos.

16.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 09:31:56
Do poor clubs spend £60m on a keeper?

All the evidence shows the club has (or had before Allison) loads of cash. Noone has shown any contrary evidence.
£140m for Coutinho, £60m from last years CL., atleats Cs£40m from the coming CL.

{Ed001's Note - what the hell does any of it have to do with cash? You really are completely ignorant of the reality of business. Please just stop before you make even more of an arse of yourself than you already have. It is embarrassing reading your inane mumblings with no basis in reality due to your lack of any kind of understanding of business dealings. How do you not know what a loan is and why the club has such a huge amount of them owed?}

17.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 09:47:31
But Christos told us a few days ago that he had a Masters in such things Ed001? I'm a qualified accountant and whilst I can't claim to fully understand how a football club business works I can clearly see from our accounts that we need to be prudent with our money to head off any future problems - Ed002 reminds us of this frequently, I don't understand why people ignore it.

18.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 09:51:20
Almost every business has debt. If you were correct, the Allison purchase would not be possible. Your ramblings about debt are wrong. With all due respect, either provide substance to your thesis or stick to the transfer rumours and leave the finance side to those of us who can understand financial statements.

{Ed002's Note - You truly are the ultimate cretin Christos.}

19.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 10:53:21
I never thought I'd be lucky enough to encounter the ultimate cretin. It's a heady experience! I have a degree in accounting, and i know chuff all about football finances. If only i had gone to the same Uni as where Christos got his imaginary Masters!

{Ed001's Note - it is embarrassing how some people argue out of pure ignorance. If spending lots of money is indicative of how much money a club has then what on earth happened with Portsmouth and Leeds United? Or, an even more recent example, Aston Villa under Xia or AC Milan? Maybe I need to go to that same uni too mate.}

20.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 11:07:50
nothing to do with FFP lfc have given lyon their terms and have ended it. Klopp lfc will not go after anyone else. However if lyon ring lfc (agent. player power) and agree then i doubt lfc will turn it down. could be deadline day deal.

Prob is another blank season may tempt salah away. silverware = asensio. magiure then title 19/ 20.

21.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 12:12:16
No doubt he thinks Barcelona just sent us a cheque for the whole £140m we supposedly got for Coutinho.

22.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 14:18:07
and we won't be paying upfront for incomings either.

23.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 14:57:50
Ha. Would love to know what Christos's masters is in exactly. Sounds like the only masters he's actually got is that victory on Tiger Woods PGA Golf 2004.

24.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 17:34:00
Like we didn't for VVD eh Riomazy?

{Ed002's Note - After illegally tapping him up Van Dijk went on strike to force a move to Liverpool - the club having to pay pretty much the entire fee (which was £15M more than he was being offered to other sides for) in cash and got absolutely caned on the agent fees - although helping Liverpool to win the Premier League Payments to Agents table with a staggering £27M last season.}

25.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 18:01:39
Worth it. VVD is a top centre back and if we have to pay additional money to secure our targets to achieve the managers and board ambitions then so be it.

{Ed002's Note - Is that a player with the right attitude? One who goes on strike?}

26.) 21 Jul 2018
21 Jul 2018 20:23:30
Thst was my point Ed002! Thanks for the backup ;-)

27.) 22 Jul 2018
22 Jul 2018 09:10:09
To take the point to the other extreme - Arsenal were fairly cash rich for a few seasons and spent naff all.

I can’t keep up with the immense amount we’ve spent in 12 months yet people still talk about the Coutinho money as if it’s still sitting in our bank account.

The Coutinho money (which we probably haven’t finished collecting) would easily be accounted for by Keita + VVD + fees. In addition In addition last summer we bought Robbo, Ox and Mo for 80 odd million plus fees.
So far this summer we’ve bought Fab, Shaq and Alisson for about £120m plus fees. How can anyone assume we are sitting on vast cash reserves?

28.) 22 Jul 2018
22 Jul 2018 09:22:16
Club financial statements don't show debt owed. Or am I wrong? Ed002 has been saying for years that liverpool are taking on more and more debt. Try not to tell the edds what to stick to as they give a lot of information on many aspects of football that most of us would never hear about without this site. Its painful to read and uncalled for when they take massive chunks out of their day to read through, edit, reply and write articles for all of us for free.

29.) 22 Jul 2018
22 Jul 2018 10:14:03
christos got away lightly in my opinion saying “leave the financial side to those of us who understand financial statements” 😄

I think Ed002 has provided enough substance for us to accept he knows more than the most well read post grad accountants when it comes to football finances 🤝.

Just to be clear, I run a business, which is pretty successful, operating a 45% retained profit.

Liverpool has some debt, but a debt which is entirely serviceable. Liverpool is spending (when accounting for inflation), around 39% less than Chelsea did when Abramovich bankrolled Chelsea, but they're also spending less on wages as a percentage of income. Chelsea debt spent their way to the title, and daddy converted the loans into equity prior to FFP becoming a thing that's designed to keep the top teams exactly where they are.

Liverpool's debt is predominantly the stadium debt, which will be repaid in time. It's working capital debt is reasonable, when compared with income (it's around 20% revenue, which is entirely manageable in an industry where growth is assured with every TV contract renewal.

To be more clear, Liverpool could afford to buy Fekir if they wanted, and still be well with FFP constraints.
