Evening Gents
Liverpool are interested in Nathaniel Brown of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Liverpool are planning life without Andy Robertson.
All I have for now.
20 Feb 2026 22:16:22
Can you see us pay the fee being quoted, Robbo, cus I doubt it. Great player though.
20 Feb 2026 22:33:26
Years left on a contract. Can't see us paying big money for a back up LB.
20 Feb 2026 16:55:12
Ed1 Any truth to the links to Nathaniel Brown from Frankfurt? Looks like a good LB/ LWB option and maybe Hugo could help twist his arm in joining us. Anyone know more about him?
{Ed001's Note - I don't know, sorry.}
20 Feb 2026 19:45:44
I have just seen your post. I just posted something similar. Liverpool seem to be keen.
20 Feb 2026 22:34:28
Heard it here first. πΆβπ«οΈ Cheers, Robbo.
20 Feb 2026 13:01:32
Afternoon Eds. I was wondering if we've shown any interest in Connor Bradley's international teammate Trai Hume as an option for RB?
{Ed001's Note - no. I would be seriously worried if we were targeting such an average player.}
20 Feb 2026 18:20:15
Have you actually watched him Ed001? He is objectively better than average across a range of important metrics (stats) and passes the eye test as well so I am genuinely confused by your assessment. Exactly the type we need - young, versatile, physical, leader. Could do far worse.
{Ed001's Note - why are you asking me when you don't want to hear what I think unless it agrees with you? The dismissive way you asked if I had seen him shows how little of a toss you give about anyone else's assessment.}
20 Feb 2026 19:35:54
I didn't mean for it to come across like that, mate. I was just trying to make the point he's a better than average Prem player.
{Ed001's Note - I disagree, he wouldn't get in the team if he wasn't able to play multiple positions to fill in for injuries and suspensions. I really don't rate him at all.}
19 Feb 2026 16:11:33
Hello all,
We are not in talks to sign Allan Elias.
Ta.
19 Feb 2026 19:15:00
Cheers, Carra, for the update. He'd probably block Ngumoha's progress anyway.
19 Feb 2026 19:25:36
Who is this Allen fella? π€·π»ββοΈπ Sounds like he sniffs bus seats.
19 Feb 2026 20:31:26
Cheers, Carra. Good to hear. We want top WB's if we're going to go with Xabi next season.
19 Feb 2026 20:38:02
Any chance we can get a full list of footballers we aren't going to sign?
19 Feb 2026 21:35:42
This Allan could be the key for success.
{Ed025's Note - nice one Robby..
19 Feb 2026 21:54:57
If we don't sign Mane I have no idea what people at the club are thinking. Man City and Arsenal have too many players in his positions. We must get this deal done. I wouldn't mind Fofana also if a decent price but Diomande has not shown anything to warrant what his club are demanding.
20 Feb 2026 00:32:27
What are his club demanding, @Lucas?
20 Feb 2026 05:02:01
Tell me, what has Fofana done this season to warrant a starting place on Liverpool FC's left flank? Other than communicating that he supported Liverpool last summer? Out of any of the linked players, Diomande would be the most exciting signing for me, and I would love to see Barcola on the left.
{Ed001's Note - and what has Barcola done? I don't get the hype with him.}
20 Feb 2026 05:58:38
Diomande's club wants a torch, a Curly Wurly, a book of stamps, a digital watch with denim strap, a vodka miniature, a Bic-style razor and a copy of the Daily Express.
20 Feb 2026 06:23:12
What date is the Daily Express, Barnsey? I may be able to help.
20 Feb 2026 06:39:02
Anyone with Lady Diana looking sad on the front page. That's what they've asked for, that's what they will get.
20 Feb 2026 08:38:39
Dam only started my paper round in 99. I'll have to keep them for another possible need.
20 Feb 2026 10:24:14
I like Bradley Barcola's name. It rolls nicely off the tongue, matron.
20 Feb 2026 11:14:25
He's namechecked in The Kinks song Lola, pop pickers.
20 Feb 2026 12:13:07
Nice call out to Fluff.
20 Feb 2026 13:13:26
Barnesy, I've got a Bristol Evening Post with Andrew Mountbatten looking sad. Will that do?
20 Feb 2026 14:14:58
Is that the Royal formerly known as Prince?
20 Feb 2026 17:29:49
Yes. They want that Bristol Evening Post, but won't move on the Curly Wurly.
20 Feb 2026 20:17:16
Nice one @Gaga, that made me laugh.
19 Feb 2026 08:35:37
Rumours coming out of Brazil that Liverpool are seriously interested in 21 year old left footed Right Winger, Allan, who plays for Palmeiras. The price quoted is 35 million euros. Story seems to originate from a local Brazilian Reporter and Editor, Robson Morelli.
19 Feb 2026 09:59:12
Just looked him up. MK stats are not great: 2 goals, 3 assists in 28 games last season, and up to now 1 goal and no assists in his first 7 games. Turns 22 soon, so not that young for stats like that in the Brazilian league.
19 Feb 2026 10:11:55
Agreed on the stats, Grino. If we are interested, though, and this report is truthful, I'd hope our scouts have seen something in him that maybe stats don't show. I'm certainly not averse to adding a bit of Brazilian flair to our turgid and predictable attack.
19 Feb 2026 11:05:18
Would he get a work permit? We very rarely take younger South Americans from source. The few times we have, we have struggled to get permits. I do not know the process or restrictions, so just enquiring.
19 Feb 2026 11:12:35
No thanks, I'll take Gakpo and Salah over a 22 yr old with 3 goals and 3 assists in 35 games in the Brazilian league. We already have a 17 year old in Rio who'd do better than that. In fact, we've a 15 year old who'd do better than that.
19 Feb 2026 11:57:38
Have you watched a lot of Palmeiras this season then, Florian Musiala? π RedQ, there is a list of criteria that the players are given points for. "International Appearances: Players earn points for both senior and youth international appearances, particularly for participating in competitive matches and for teams with higher FIFA rankings. Club Appearances: Points are awarded based on the player's involvement in domestic league matches and continental competitions, with an emphasis on participation in top-tier leagues and tournaments. Transfer Fee and Salary: The player's transfer fee and salary are also considered, serving as indicators of their quality relative to the league's existing talent pool.
Automatic Qualification: Players who accumulate a certain number of points, reflecting their international experience and club level performance, automatically qualify for a GBE. Exceptions Panel: An Exceptions Panel exists for players who do not meet the standard criteria, offering a pathway for those with exceptional talent or potential to obtain a GBE based on a comprehensive review of their credentials." I personally think, at the quoted 35 million euros, he'd probably be granted a permit. Estevao was 45 million euros from Palmeiras to Chelsea and he got a work permit.
19 Feb 2026 12:42:52
Haven't we been asking for these hidden gems before they end up somewhere else? If the interest is genuine, then he must have something worth making an approach for.
19 Feb 2026 12:59:43
Well, he's left-footed, that's a plus point.
19 Feb 2026 13:18:12
No, MK, none. But, seeing as he's 22 and playing in a league comparable to the Championship with those stats, I would not be interested in him. Lewis Koumas has been on loan in the Championship for the last two seasons, talented boy. I'd rather have him back at the club.
19 Feb 2026 13:45:12
No idea if the links are true, but I heard there's a bug in our code which only provides data on Brazilian players with "Allan" in their name. So it could be true.
19 Feb 2026 13:48:49
Lol I would rather have Barry Chuckle than Gakpo, mate. Literally anyone on the planet would be better than Gakpo.
19 Feb 2026 13:49:38
Cheers MK, I just remember when we signed the young lad Allan (may have the name wrong, apologies if I do) a few years back. We had hopes for him, but then he had to spend his entire time with the club on loan elsewhere because we could never get a work permit sorted.
19 Feb 2026 14:34:21
He would likely not get a work permit. Why would we be interested in him when Rayan, who looks to be a better player and who plays in the same position, went for cheaper? I am guessing Palmeiras are drumming up interest in him.
19 Feb 2026 14:39:45
Don't we always have serious problems getting WP for South American players?
19 Feb 2026 14:47:11
With the quoted price and a hefty wage, the WP probably wouldn't be that much of an issue. Not that I think it would be a good idea.
19 Feb 2026 16:01:05
Let's be honest here. If his nationality wasn't Brazilian this would be a hard no from everyone on this site. Agree with FM, those stats are shambolic in an attacking league for someone who is 22.
19 Feb 2026 17:07:14
Gakpo seems to be the whipping boy for the so-called supporters who are not happy unless they have someone to criticise. Gakpo has suffered the same as Mo this season because of the turgid build up. I'm not saying we can't upgrade him if we get someone like Barcola or Gordon, but the disrespect is not necessary.
19 Feb 2026 17:16:54
Looked him up, and he's listed as a defensive midfielder, not a winger, which would be better.
19 Feb 2026 17:19:47
Wrong, Allan. My mistake, there seem to be a few of them.
19 Feb 2026 21:29:02
It's Luther Blissett and John Barnes to Milan all over again.
17 Feb 2026 17:47:23
Evening fellas, little bit of info,
Daniel Svensson is being looked at by Liverpool, BVB left back.
Happy pancake day.
17 Feb 2026 18:31:14
Cheers, Robbo, for the info. Enjoy those pancakes, people.
17 Feb 2026 19:39:10
Never heard of the guy, apparently he can play in midfield as well. Appreciate the update Robbo, anyone seen him play?
17 Feb 2026 19:57:18
No chance. Only signed for Dortmund 8 months ago.
17 Feb 2026 21:50:20
We've already got a left back. A backup should be homegrown or a u23 promotion.
17 Feb 2026 22:17:06
Only ever seen him play in the Danish Superliga, where he only played as a lb in a four-man back line when there were injuries. He played on the wing or as a wing back mostly, which he also does at Dortmund - wing back, that is.
I can't see him in a Slot team as a lb from prior knowledge, but I haven't seen him much since he moved to Germany, so I really can't judge.
17 Feb 2026 23:11:00
Maybe that means Slot won't be here. π€·ββοΈ
18 Feb 2026 06:52:51
Makes sense when our newest left back has just started to play quite well. I think our issues are elsewhere.
18 Feb 2026 08:01:34
I don't think it will happen. The higher priority is a cb, cm, rw and probably a lw for bigger money. We already have a massive job on our hands, with this huge overhaul.
A lb will be recruited within, or on the cheap, same for a rb, I imagine. I'd expect us to need to replace: Konate, Salah, Endo, Chiesa, Robbo, Ramsay, probably McAllister and Gakpo too.
18 Feb 2026 09:31:07
I think right back is a high priority. Unless they think that by next year Frimpong will be more able to cope with the physical demands of English football. Bradley, as much as I love the lad's attitude, just cannot be relied on.
Harsh that may sound, as his latest injury was a freak one, but it is only the latest of a long line of injuries. As it is, he's not due back till 2027, and we can't have another situation like this season in that position.
18 Feb 2026 09:55:56
We do need a left back to rotate with Kerkez. Robbo will be off during the summer. As FM says, we also require a rb, as Conor, unfortunately, is injured regularly and, frankly, isn't a good rb anyway.
18 Feb 2026 11:13:43
I agree, Florian. Sometimes, players are not necessarily injury-prone (bone density, muscle structure, bad diet, poor lifestyle choices), but just unlucky with freak injuries (reckless challenges, unfortunate timing). Both should be avoided.
18 Feb 2026 12:09:41
As far as the first 11 goes, I would have a rb and a winger as the top priorities, even if it wouldn't surprise me if Gakpo and Mo were still at the club next season.
18 Feb 2026 12:14:26
Makes total sense for us to go for a left back when we need a right back, a right winger, a left winger, and a couple of centre backs.
18 Feb 2026 17:18:15
Or, Konate could sign a contract, and we wouldn't need a CB at all.
18 Feb 2026 21:35:29
Would rather Beck get a chance as a backup next season.
19 Feb 2026 08:48:25
Beck or Chambers can be backup for Kerkez, surely?
17 Feb 2026 10:56:36
Hearing there's still a gap on Szobo's numbers.
His camp want around Β£300k base, rising to 350k with bonuses.
Club are closer to 220k base, 250k max all in.
For context, Gakpo's on 250k base, up to about 310k with add-ons.
He's not in a rush. Wants clarity on the managerial situation and his long-term role. Sees himself more as a no. 8 going forward.
No agreement yet, still some distance.
Heads up.
17 Feb 2026 11:15:07
That Gakpo contract was so unnecessary. It was clear to me he was to be sold this summer and it was running until 2028 anyway.
17 Feb 2026 11:34:43
It's happened again. Edwards is handing out huge contracts, and everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon. VVD and Salah. Hopefully an agreement can be made. Jones and Konate will have room to manoeuvre now too.
Anyone remember Fowler re-signing for us? Apparently he walked into the office and didn't even ask how much it was a week. He just wanted to sign the contract. Where have those days and players gone?
{Ed025's Note - its a different world now Gazza..
17 Feb 2026 11:53:54
Give him whatever he wants. His engine, leadership, quality, age, injury record deserve a top contract. Just f****** get it done before Madrid or anyone else comes sniffing.
17 Feb 2026 11:55:58
No wonder we have the highest salary out of the Prem. Once you give Mo 400+ a week, there's no going back, everyone else will want more. My one worry would be a drop off in form once players get their big contracts.
17 Feb 2026 12:11:55
We have the highest salary in the Prem because of massively incentivised deals. We won the Prem. Maximum related bonuses will be paid out due to that. It won't be the same next year.
17 Feb 2026 12:48:00
Exactly, Ginger!
17 Feb 2026 13:14:31
You give Salah that contract because he's earned it. He's our highest scoring PL player ever! He scored and assisted the most goals in the league last season, and we won it. He's won 2 titles and a CL and got us to 2 further CL finals. I'm sorry, but that doesn't give any other player the right to go in and demand the same. It's a very simple answer. Once you've achieved what Mo has achieved, we'll give you what Mo's got. Same goes for VVD. He's captain and still one of the best defenders in the world. He's arguably the best CB we've ever had. He's won 2 titles and a Champions League and got us to 2 other CL finals. When you've achieved what he's achieved, you'll get what he's got. You could even look at the big contracts Mo and VVD got as a positive, instead of just using it to beat Edwards over the head, again.
These contracts show the other players that, if you show your worth and achieve great things, Liverpool are a club that will reward you for it. It is an incentive to all of the players that weren't part of Jurgen's league and CL winners. On the flip side, if we'd not agreed new contracts with VVD and Mo, the fallout would've been extremely negative. It shows the other players we use you to get success and then just dump you when we don't need you anymore. The negativity on here is incredible sometimes. People just look for reasons to moan and whinge about anyone at the club without the first clue of what they're talking about.
{Ed025's Note - i agree to a certain extent BP but the two most important words are "past tense" mate, Mo has been nothing short of atrocious for quite a while now and for me age has caught up with him unfortunately so i will ask you where do you draw the line?, what he has done in the past has been great and he has been very handsomely rewarded for it but if hes not producing the goods there has to be a cut off point where you ask if hes worth the money? sentiment is all well and good but this is a business and you cant afford any lame ducks im afraid ..
17 Feb 2026 13:26:21
I agree with Varry. Mo and VVD have earned their contracts, and good luck to them. Both would be in our all-time best 11, imo, excellent professionals, nearly always available for selection, and I've no doubt could've moved clubs a few years ago when they were at their peak for more money.
City, PSG, Madrid, etc., I'm sure would've had no problem paying them 500k or more per week.
17 Feb 2026 13:30:19
This is the problem with "pay him whatever he wants" approach. Everyone then starts wanting more and more because "X" player gets paid "Y".
17 Feb 2026 13:32:23
Love this take, Varry.
17 Feb 2026 13:21:23
And what a shame that is Ed.
See so many players pat the badge or kiss it
Yet there soon head turned when a bigger club comes calling or the money is better somewhere else
These so called supporters playing for their teams they support is propaganda
I'm 44. I'd run to Liverpool now from Dartford and play football for the chance to wear that shirt and score in front of the Kop
{Ed025's Note - it is a shame Gazza, i feel that its all about agents rather than players now mate and how much they can cream off the top to feather their own nests so ask for unbelievable contracts that are not sustainable..
17 Feb 2026 13:50:34
Yeh but Ed its not as if Mo jumped from 100k to 400k he was already on 300k plus and then had the best indiviual season ever in the history of the league, winning it along with every individual award going. You were always going to have to bump his money up, and rightfully so because without Mo last year we probably don't win the league. If the club hadnt extended the fans would have been in uproar.Same with Virg, best CB in the league last year in a year we lifted the title.Only 2 year deals so i have absolutely no problem with them two getting that money. For me if two players have performed to a level they would be in our alltime 11 you look after them.
{Ed025's Note - they were both instrumental in your success last year FM thats without doubt, i just feel that we all knew it was getting to the end of the road in their careers and offering that sort of money in relation to their ages it was always going to be a slippery slope mate, i just dont know where it ends?..
17 Feb 2026 14:55:04
I get that, it's just that we could hardly ask them to take a pay cut either. If we had, or if I was them, I'd have told us to f*** off.
{Ed025's Note - i was thinking more of a freeze than a cut FM, dont forget that these extortionate wages do not include bonuses and its not as if they are on the breadline mate, maybe its just me being old and decrepit and not living in the real world when it comes to player salaries.. :)
17 Feb 2026 15:11:53
Salah's wages will be covered if he moves in the Summer, so it was a no-brainer to give him a new contract.
17 Feb 2026 15:24:49
Do you think there was any logic applied in giving Salah a new contract at 400k, in the belief he would only stay one more season, but that it would allow us leverage to get a decent fee from Saudi rather than let him go on a free?
17 Feb 2026 16:24:25
Ed, 250k rising to 310k for Gakpo true? Thought he was on less than that.
{Ed001's Note - not sure about the rising to 310 no.}
17 Feb 2026 17:06:55
Salah's situation in no way can be compared to Szobo'a. Salah has done it year in year out for nearly a decade. Whilst everyone contributed last season, Szobo was considered a player who should improve. He has improved.
17 Feb 2026 17:21:56
What managerial situation? Is Slot going?
17 Feb 2026 17:34:07
If Salah doesn't move in the summer (he has no need to unless it suits him), then we're left with a declining player, playing fewer games on 400k per week, and there's nothing we can do about it. It was a tough call giving that contract out to him and to VVD, because there is no doubt we would not have won the league without their performances last season.
Perhaps the smart call was to let them leave as champions - they deserve that - rather than let them deteriorate along with the team. I don't think for 1 second I would have made that call, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
17 Feb 2026 18:05:18
Salah's decline is still probably between 15-20 goals a season and loads of assists though. I'd imagine only Semenyo out of all the wide forwards in England will get more G/A than Mo this year.
17 Feb 2026 18:11:42
I agree with the sentiment that Es02 used to put forward regularly about not discussing finance. @Frode, you can compare players' salary values. In fact, the club has to compare and needs to fit all salaries within the club's wage structure. Each contract agreed will have an impact on all contracts that come after.
17 Feb 2026 18:21:24
The issue we'll have with players like Gakpo is: why would they leave? Nobody else will pay them so much more than they're worth, as we are. Luckily, most other clubs would want players on high salaries.
17 Feb 2026 19:16:20
Salah atrocious?? Have a word with yourself! I think he's got 16 goals and assists this season. And he'd have a lot more assists if he hadn't messed up chances he'd handed them on a plate. Yes, he hasn't hit the heights of every other season he's played for us, but to say he's been "atrocious" is just plain wrong.
{Ed025's Note - i was being nice with atrocious Flidby out of respect for the guy..
17 Feb 2026 19:22:12
Just checked, and Salah is sixth in the Premier League for goals and assists. And that's with him missing a chunk because of AFCON. This narrative that his legs have gone is just nonsense. It's such an easy accusation to throw at a player who is north of 30.
His legs looked alright when he burst past that Brighton defender in the second half to win that penalty. If his legs had gone and he was so bad, why does the opposition double and triple team him?
{Ed025's Note - going past a very poor Brighton full back does not make him Usain Bolt Flidby and to do it once in 8 months is hardly consistency mate, i get your love for the guy i really do but being an Ostrich does not really make much sense either imo..
17 Feb 2026 20:18:53
Ed I think you are not looking at the bigger picture here. We knew this would be a summer of change. We knew there'd be a lot of players leaving and we'd have to replace them.
Would it really have made sense to allow our 2 most experienced, most influential and most successful current players leave as we are bringing a lot of new players in?
There is more to a successful squad than just match days. These players can play a crucial role in the transition from one group of players to another. They've literally won it all and can pass on their knowledge and experience to the new and younger players. Their standards, their habits, their ambition, their work ethic.
In the long run that is worth paying a big 2 year contract for even if they are not playing at the level they used to and it shows the new and young players what you can become by playing for this great club. It gives them something to aspire to.
It's a no brainer for me.
{Ed025's Note - maybe you are right BP, you should give them a 10 year contract and increase their salary to half a million a week because they are so important, possibly offer Robbo a similar deal because hes been good as well..
18 Feb 2026 10:20:28 If there are players of this FSG era who deserve to "break the wage structure", then it's VVD, Mo and Alli. We then have to accept that when we do, the butterfly effect ripples to other players, because once you blow the roof, others will want to fly through as well.
{Ed025's Note - im with you Faith..
18 Feb 2026 19:12:36
Another itk, don't believe a word of it. Think he'd be more than happy with 250,000 a week. Just making stuff up.
16 Feb 2026 21:27:56
Utter poo Gordon will not be joining Liverpool, paper talk.
17 Feb 2026 10:31:23
A rumour on the rumours page - who da thunk?
17 Feb 2026 11:04:50
Wasn't he extremely close to signing 18 months ago when Newcastle were trying to meet the PSR deadline? I think eventually they sold Anderson and Minteh instead to get themselves out of the hole, and it was reported at the time that we didn't want to include Quansah as part of the deal.
I'm not sure it's as crazy of a link as you are making out. Either way, I only posted it so I could mock the mooted price tag anyway. Anthony Gordon might well still be of interest to us for all we know, but at the reported 85-95m I think I'd rather sign Gordon Ramsay to run the canteen!
17 Feb 2026 11:22:02
If people are asking for more pace and directness in our play, then Gordon certainly fits the bill. Personally, I don't want him simply because of his attitude when he plays us. He wants to run around knobbling our players, and he gave attitude to the Kop when he scored. Regardless of that, anything above 60m would be utter lunacy.
17 Feb 2026 11:22:35
Gordon will end up a Liverpool player.
17 Feb 2026 11:35:02
My guess is Mac Allister will leave in the summer, and Gordon will take his place as prime thespian.
17 Feb 2026 14:24:16
I'd hope we pass on it. Stupid money for a player who isn't the quickest, isn't the most skilful, and his end product is distinctly mediocre at best. Stewart Downing vibes here.
17 Feb 2026 15:13:26
Love it, Darwin!
17 Feb 2026 17:48:49
He is one of my least favorite current players in the league. So, I really hope not. Bad attitude, dives all the time, and no real quality. It would be a huge mistake.
18 Feb 2026 10:22:00
Not the quickest, just recorded the quickest sprint in the Champions League. But not the quickest.
18 Feb 2026 17:34:17
Hands down better than Gakpo. May be a better choice abroad, but he's still better than Gakpo.
18 Feb 2026 19:10:06
I agree he's better than Gakpo. I'm fecking better than Gakpo, and I'm 62 years old. Gordon has scored 4 tonight in the first half. He would cause havoc and get us plenty of penalties. An upgrade on Gakpo. But GBP80m is a joke. GBP60m, swap out Gakpo and give him the wage.
16 Feb 2026 16:34:44
Anthony Gordon has been linked to us again for 85 million. Presumably, that's 85 million Indian rupees, given his form (or lack of) this season.
16 Feb 2026 16:40:05
I like Gordon. I just wouldn't be paying crazy money for him.
16 Feb 2026 16:45:13
85 mil. π I'd sooner we get Flash Gordon.
16 Feb 2026 16:59:57
I agree with @Florian. He wouldn't be a bad signing for the right price, but 85m is definitely not the right price.
{Ed025's Note - how come you all think your players are worth an absolute fortune yet other teams players are not worth much at all??, this page does make me smile (or cringe) at times SK..
16 Feb 2026 17:28:25
I'd say he's worth about the same as Gakpo ed, is that fair?
{Ed025's Note - im not a Gakpo fan i must say FM and i think Gordon has a bit more about him (he does not cut inside all the time) but i dont think there would be much between them price wise...so your right mate..
16 Feb 2026 17:51:06
Passing on Semenyo to sign Clare Balding's doppelganger is peak stupidity.
16 Feb 2026 18:38:01
Mindless speculation drawing in the usual suspects.
16 Feb 2026 18:58:10
Gordon, home grown, English, Scouse, red. As long as the price is right, good for me.
16 Feb 2026 19:12:32
Solid no for me. On his day he can be very good, but he is far too inconsistent. If we want to be a team consistently fighting for 5th and 6th place in the Prem, then that's the calibre of player we should be looking at.
But if we want to be fighting for titles and Champions League trophies, I think we need better. Just my opinion, but I have not seen anything that makes me think he can jump up to the level required consistently.
16 Feb 2026 19:20:11
In response to Ed025 questioning why Gordon isn't worth the money, simple: he's rubbish.
{Ed025's Note - i dont think hes rubbish Lord N, hes a good player in my book but needs to stop the diving lark mate..
16 Feb 2026 18:34:02
@ed25 Where in my post have I claimed that our players are worth an absolute fortune? There are only 2 or 3 of our players that I would expect that kind of money for. Do you honestly think that he is worth Β£85m? I know he's an ex-toffee but get a grip mate.
{Ed025's Note - i never claimed that you said it SK, it was a observation of Liverpool supporters in general mate..
16 Feb 2026 19:40:30
Ed025, I prefer Gordon to Gakpo just because of his workrate, but I would say Gakpo has a lot better end product. But I would not want any of them. Given the choice, I did not want us to sign Gakpo, but he surprised at first, and he has been truly awful this season.I would say ability-wise Gakpo is the better player, and if he goes to Germany he would do well.
Gordon would cost vastly more than he is worth because of the English tax.But I do think we would get 100% commitment from him every game, which you should expect as a minimum from players, but you don't always get it.But there are better players out there for a lot less money.
16 Feb 2026 21:29:56
Gordon would need to be heavily discounted just for being ex-Everton, 025.
{Ed025's Note - he progressed through the school of science Hughesy so that should double his price mate.. :)
16 Feb 2026 21:37:23
Newcastle would want north of 85m from anyone, and after last summer they'd demand a premium from us. For a player who only scored 6 goals last year and only 3 so far this year, I'd rather hope we pass him on. Other than his passport, he offers nothing.
16 Feb 2026 22:02:56
Gordon would be a hard pass, typically overhyped English player. Doesn't excel in anything other than running fast in a straight line (and through players after the ball has gone).
17 Feb 2026 02:36:20
Ed25, all fans have biased, one-way thoughts about their own players and different views of opposition players. Overvaluing home players and undervaluing opposition players is all part of the weird and wonderful fanaticism we all have. I find it a lot easier to just worry about what happens on the pitch, tho, I don't buy or sell the players so it doesn't mean squat to me.
{Ed025's Note - nor me really Jack, but it does make me cringe at times when they compare some very average players to all time greats and deem some of them as "world class" because they have played 3 good games on the trot, its not just Liverpool fans of course mate, but i have to say if there was a delusional league table the reds would odds on to win it every year.. :)
17 Feb 2026 06:28:35
What will be left when the pace fades? Not a lot of wager. Gakpo is twice the player Gordon is.
17 Feb 2026 07:30:19
Would much rather Tonali or Lewis Hall from Newcastle than Gordon.
17 Feb 2026 10:34:20
It's ironic - he's a diver when tabled who recklessly dives in when tackling. I'd have him in the 'average' category for a PL player. There are better options imho.
17 Feb 2026 11:23:56
He was always the best player on the pitch in Derbies, in my opinion.
17 Feb 2026 11:55:01
Gordon's alive???
17 Feb 2026 15:36:34
Gordon would suit Isaac's type of striker play, as happened at Newcastle. Gakpo comes inside, Isaac has made his run for the cross that doesn't come. imo. YNWA.
17 Feb 2026 20:23:58
Gordon is a moron.
17 Feb 2026 21:53:19
Jilted John wasn't wrong, Rome.
18 Feb 2026 10:22:55
Gordon reminds me a bit of Diaz. We'd be getting a local lad: all-action, can cut in or go on the outside, and will be ultra-competitive. I like it, just not at that price.
18 Feb 2026 18:02:42
Agreed, Faith. Rose-tinted when it comes to Gakpo. He's bang average at best.
16 Feb 2026 08:33:29
Ed,
Can you please calm my nerves regarding Szobo? Seems like the Real Madrid-machine is in full motion trying to get him.
Do you have any info if he's willing to leave or if he's happy to extend?
{Ed001's Note - he wants to stay. He is a Liverpool fan. Questions should be asked why the club have not sorted it already.}
16 Feb 2026 09:48:37
They can have Alexis McAllister instead for 80m.
16 Feb 2026 10:09:37
Statement one, from any agent - (insert club) are very big fans of him, or - He's a very big fan of (insert club) when any contract negotiations begin!
16 Feb 2026 10:10:30
Every contract extension does seem to be a drama. Not sure whether it's the constant media nowadays that makes it seem worse, but we can't seem to get them sorted quickly or efficiently.
16 Feb 2026 10:12:28
Ed002 always said that Mac Allister was in Real Madrid's long-term planning. Probably as a Toni Kroos successor, in my opinion. Macca would suit Spanish football with his play-acting and technical quality. He'd be less physically exposed.
16 Feb 2026 10:30:52
Agents doing what agents do during contract negotiations. Linking them to rivals.
16 Feb 2026 10:43:30
Marca, the RM mouthpiece, is stirring things up again.
16 Feb 2026 11:10:37
He wants a new deal, Liverpool want to give him a new deal, talks are ongoing, and I'm aware both parties will come to an agreement. π€
16 Feb 2026 11:25:45
A national coach mentions Madrid and panic ensues. The club are in talks with him, he still has two and a half years on his contract so it's not as if we're leaving it late. A few games ago, before the recent flurry of goals, people were happy enough to move him on.
16 Feb 2026 12:02:23
I'd imagine his agent is just trying to add an extra few quid to his contract. Nothing new here. But, yes, while this one doesn't quite fall into that bracket, there is a worrying theme of us struggling to renew contracts. I guess the well-published money Salah and Van Dijk are getting is giving key players something to push for, though.
16 Feb 2026 12:16:47
Has there been any reliable indication that we are struggling with this contract? Or is it just because he apparently dreamed of playing for Madrid as a child?
16 Feb 2026 12:39:54
Apart from he who must not be named, who made a personal choice not to renew, has the club not re-signed? Contract renewals are not simple, and there is generally a lot of money being negotiated, and, from the club's perspective, a need to maintain a wage structure for contracts.
16 Feb 2026 12:41:49
We're not that good at contracts, are we?
16 Feb 2026 12:59:00
Hence the reason Diaz wanted out. Disgraceful giving that much to Gakpo.
16 Feb 2026 16:23:06
To be fair, Ed, Trent is a Liverpool fan. I found it interesting that when TNT compared him with Steven Gerrard, he quickly shot it down and said he wants to write his own story. Fair enough, but there's a single-mindedness in that comment that worries me a little if the likes of Madrid do come calling.
16 Feb 2026 16:42:47
For what it's worth, I think he'll sign on, but if for some reason he wants to go, I've no problem with it if he goes this summer and we get his proper transfer value.
16 Feb 2026 08:39:17
I have a work colleague in Amsterdam who is an Ajax season ticket holder.
He said that the rumours coming from Ajax is that they want Arne Slot as their next permanent manager as rumours are that Arne Slot wants to return to the Netherlands and be with his family.
Not sure how accuarate or true this is but just passing on info.
16 Feb 2026 09:21:00
Does Arne want to leave mutually, or does he want a payoff? I am guessing he wants his last year paid off, otherwise he would be gone already.
16 Feb 2026 09:44:52
A mutual separation sounds a lot more plausible. It doesn't make logical sense, given what a lot of the ITK's have said. You wouldn't tell someone they're getting sacked 6 months in advance. That's not conducive to a positive working environment, nor is it a particularly good way to motivate someone to achieve success in those final months.
It would make a lot more sense if the senior management and Slot had sat down and had a grown-up talk about the future, and come to an agreement that it's in both parties' best interests to go in a different direction this summer.
16 Feb 2026 09:47:21
I think that if he were to leave by mutual consent (which the ITKs have confirmed), then it is possible they will pay out some of the last year of his contract. Slot earns 6.6m a year, so it would not be a huge payout (3m to 4m) from a financial point of view.
16 Feb 2026 09:49:21
It does seem more likely that Slot will be back in the Netherlands next season. He doesn't seem to see LFC as a way of life; he just sees it as a prestigious job. Anyway, we need someone who will bring both excitement and success.
16 Feb 2026 09:51:22
I like this rumour. It points more to Arne Slot going at the end of the season, which I'm all for. Mutual consent seems like the most probable outcome. Will our next manager be a success? I don't know. But, at the minute, he just seems a blue peg for a red hole.
16 Feb 2026 10:45:24
Is this true? Is it possible that Slot might leave? How come this hasn't been mentioned before?
16 Feb 2026 11:13:06
Yeah, I've been told the same. I posted it in the discussions tab. Ajax really want Slot. It will suit them both.
16 Feb 2026 11:27:52
Excitement and success, simples!
16 Feb 2026 12:00:57
I'd be amazed if Slot went back to the Netherlands. He could easily get another big job in Europe after Liverpool. How old are his kids now? They don't look like they'll be in school that much longer.
16 Feb 2026 12:22:48
I think they are in college, so I suppose they are nearly adults. I think that's the main reason they stayed in Holland, to prevent disruption to their schooling. I too can't see him returning to the Eredivisie, livered. Why would he willingly go back to manage in a league that's not considered to be in Europe's top 5?
16 Feb 2026 12:42:23
Maybe Ajax will offer him a lot of money? That could be a factor.
16 Feb 2026 12:45:36
This is a wild hunch, but I can imagine Arne Slot taking over at Newcastle. Upgrade for Newcastle, closer to home for Arne Slot. Just a wild guess.
16 Feb 2026 12:51:45
Wouldn't offer him as much as he'd get in England, Spain, Italy, or Germany. Even Saudi, which in fairness is now a stronger league than Holland, would dwarf what Ajax could offer. From a sporting objective, too, he'd want to challenge himself where the best players and managers are.
16 Feb 2026 13:35:23
Maybe it's not about money. Maybe the family ties and being homesick outweigh getting a pot of gold, and, let's face it, he's not going to be worried about cash for the rest of his life, is he?
16 Feb 2026 14:42:49
Madmax, I just got my ruler on the map, and Newcastle is 64mm away from Rotterdam, whilst Manchester is only 56mm away from Rotterdam. Therefore, it doesn't seem viable, as it's a slightly longer flight. Norwich, on the other hand, is only 26mm away from Rotterdam, and they're 19th in the Championship, so could probably do with a new manager.
16 Feb 2026 16:05:26
You're right, MK. I need to go back to geography classes. Haha.
16 Feb 2026 16:29:44
Mutual agreement to terminate does not equal free. This is corporate newspeak for "sacked" in 99% of cases. If both parties agree to a figure to prematurely terminate a contract, that would count as a mutual termination.
Non-mutual is when the parties cannot agree on a figure. One party (usually the club in this case) can pay the value of the contract, or any stipulated termination fees, as a straightforward termination.
16 Feb 2026 17:45:52
I get the impression that Slot isn't enjoying the pressure enough to want to stay at Liverpool. He is a family-first man with relatively young children, so maybe the Liverpool job came too soon for him. I think, overall, he has done a very decent job. He avoided the cliff edge when Klopp left. He kept people together when Jota passed.
He tolerated the DOF's failure to get cover at the back, and spending money on players we didn't need. He is getting the best out of the new signings and managing the transition reasonably well. We will finish in the top five and go deep in the FA Cup and/or Champions League. He won the league and got us to the final last season.
15 Feb 2026 14:36:16
Hello ed1 hope u well. do u know much about Joshua Abe? plays for u18s seems to be v highly rated, got hat trick yesterday. Lot of talk that he signed with trent brother agency and that he will be leaving lfc.
{Ed001's Note - no mate, he is just a kid. Still just 15, but he trains a fair bit with the first team.}
15 Feb 2026 17:09:27
A few big Prem teams are trying to get him. His father is a big Arsenal fan, apparently. Wouldn't be the best decision to go there, maybe, with Saka/Madueke on the right. There's a path there for him on the right with us, so hopefully he signs on.
15 Feb 2026 18:07:37
Thanks for response ed1. Yeah flo I'd agree with that, if your a winger there definitely a spot r 2 available with lfc in near future.
I would have doubts about signing with that agency of trent brother, if it the guy that does the social media stuff he comes across as a middling kettle of fish
16 Feb 2026 09:36:08
Unless Rio and Abe are Sterling or Owen at the same stage, then let's not expect that they'll be regular starters on the wing in the next 5+ years at least. Slight caveat that an opportunity and timing may fall in place for them to take that chance, but I feel like it's less likely they will be anything near a Luis Diaz replacement anytime soon.
16 Feb 2026 10:14:52
I don't think Faith or Rio are a million miles away from it thb. I think Rio will get a few more games now as we are playing a bit better, and we will have a better idea of what we have come the end of the season.
I think he is well capable of being a regular for us if he gets his head down and works hard. No idea on Abe at all, just what I read.
16 Feb 2026 11:30:49
Well, put it this way: both are seen as at the very top of their respective age groups. That's all you can ask at this stage, I suppose. Those two, along with young Dowman at Arsenal, are seen as having big, big futures.
