Hi eds, just a quick one. Do you see us going for any so called "big name" players this summer? I know it's only early but as of yet we've only made a couple of free signings and are looking at a kid from Charlton. I'm just concerned that if we don't we could fall even further behind than we already are. We've seen a number of names move elsewhere already, surely this should be ringing alarm bells at the club?!

Cheers for all your work anyway, nice to be able to use your help to separate what's real and pure gossip.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained where there is interest that I know of - Liverpool has made three signings and is working hard on another. I can't say what a "big name" player is in your view, but Liverpool will be looking to gradually improve the team.}

A player with a name the size of the Hollywood sign in the mountains of Los Angeles, prolly.

Are they working hard on Kovacic or Gomez?

{Ed002's Note - Kovacic - I am sick of explaining.}

Sorry Ed, new name came into the picture and stories have come out about Liverpool yet again not meeting the price of a player. Thanks anyway.

{Ed002's Note - A wander through the weekend posts might help. And, something new: Liverpool can forget Juanmi as well. I will admit that until a Newcastle scout came out this morning and said he is heading to Southampton I did not even know of Liverpool interest. Malaga have confirmed to me that there was an enquiry from Liverpool, answered by the club, but not followed up.}

Is he a Striker Ed, not heard of him tbh mate.

Thanks Ed002, appreciate it

Suppose we'll just end up paying 20 mil next summer

"Sakho isn't all that". PollyJnr, have you ever actually watched Mamadou Sakho? He's our best centre back by a country mile. He may look awkward at times, but he's a far better defender than he gets credit for. Skrtel is the one you should be pointing your finger at. Apart from four or five good performances this season his appearances were cluttered with mistakes, rash challenges and poor defensive decisions. The majority of goals we concede by strikers beating the offside trap are the fault of Skrtel. The fact that you say Sakho isn't really that good makes me question your understanding of football.

A fine young player? Tell me how many times have you watched Charlton Athletic this season? There's every chance that he could be a good player in the future, but right now none of us knows for certain. The worry I have is that we have so many defenders on our books, young and old, and I cannot see anything other than another Ilori panning out.

Totally agree on the above point re Clyne, however the Wisdom point I'm not so sure about. Andre Wisdom did not start a game for West Brom after the arrival of Tony Pulis, who we all know loves a good defender. Surely if Wisdom was that good he would have got more games at the back of a pretty average team like West Brom.

Great yeah. Nothing against the kid, but we're watching top players go elsewhere and all we're doing is picking up cheapo frees and young kids. It'd be nice to show a bit of ambition once in a while.

@redohio why thank heavens? Milner is a great, versatile player who could prove really useful to us in a number of positions. Unfortunately we have little players now who actually have fight in them (our vice captain included) so it would be great to have a player who can add that in abundance. I honestly don't understand the negative feelings towards Milner, is it just because he's not a £30m "marquee signing"? That's worked well for us lately hasn't it?
