Ed002,recent reports suggest an interest in Emerson of Roma, with the club likely to bid tomorrow. Any truth? Thank you.

tsteen

{Ed002's Note - I would not have thought another left back a priority.}

1.) 31 Aug 2017 08:53:33
How many left backs do we actually need?

{Ed001's Note - 7, one for each day of the week that we can swap in depending on the day we play.}

2.) 31 Aug 2017 09:02:28
Guys is it not plain simple that we are going to play two left backs. Moreno and whoever comes in, Moreno is never in the right place so the second left back will be there to cover for him.

3.) 31 Aug 2017 09:37:34
Maybe we're cornering the market in left footers to create a worldwide shortage to drive the prices up?

4.) 31 Aug 2017 10:27:46
Surely we only need 6 then ed? Champions league this year means no Thursday football for us!

{Ed001's Note - ah but we might come 3rd in our group......}

5.) 31 Aug 2017 12:39:07
If we come third in this group ed we might as well pack it up and go home, we won't be going anywhere on Thursday's either.

10 May 2017 16:06:31
We've been linked with Stoke winger, Ramadan Sobhi. Any truth in this eds?

tsteen

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware but the club are looking for a left winger.}

1.) 10 May 2017 17:28:59
Thanks for the reply Ed002. I think he moved from North Africa last year but he has impressed in the brief appearences for Stoke. Widely regarded as the next big African talent.

2.) 10 May 2017 20:49:14
That'll be 2 wingers out for AFCON then.

3.) 10 May 2017 22:59:23
Afcon is in 2019 boys and girls not ever year.

4.) 11 May 2017 12:01:49
That's fine then, we won't need players in 2019.

5.) 11 May 2017 13:07:34
We should be able to cope without a player or 2 for a month - our dreadful form may have coincided with Mane going to the AFCON but it wasn't caused by it - we got casual, took our foot of the gas, did not adapt properly to the different team dynamic and rolled over against weak opposition. If that happens again, with or without the AFCON, we will struggle. The problem wasn't Mane leaving, it was the players still there not performing well enough.

6.) 12 May 2017 06:26:57
Seano I think you underestimate the difference Mane made. Shouldnt have been the difference but it was a big part in it.

Who will be replacing Ayre as Chief Exec? I know the new CEO role will have less influence as Mike Edwards will take over some of the duties but still curious nonetheless. Thanks.

tsteen

1.) 03 Feb 2017 19:19:03
Big Billy Hogan.

2.) 03 Feb 2017 21:00:40
Nope, he's the new managing director! The new CEO will not be revealed until after the season according to the Echo!

Liverpool considering a bid for Gibbs.

1.) 05 Aug 2016 02:59:04
I would rather us go for Obita.

12 Jul 2016 22:12:53
Hi Eds, read today that Clyne is unhappy under Klopp and that he was subsequently offered to Barcelona (who I believe are in the market for a full back) . Is there any amount of truth in this? Many thanks.

tsteen

{Ed002's Note - It has been said that Clyne is not too keen on certain matters but I am not aware of his agent offering him the Barcelona at all.}

1.) 12 Jul 2016 22:22:59
If he is unhappy, i think now might be a decent time to cash in with the general opinion of him being quite high outside of Liverpool. I feel most fans on here see him as alright but nothing that can't easily be replaced, especially if we could recoup a decent fee. Only problem is, who replaces him?

{Ed002's Note - How about JF?}

2.) 12 Jul 2016 22:27:29
What sort of matters? If you don't mind me asking.

3.) 12 Jul 2016 22:43:39
His agent should try Real Madrid or Bayern instead 😂.

4.) 12 Jul 2016 22:53:43
Out of curiosity, what's the drama?

5.) 13 Jul 2016 00:13:14
I think Clyne escaped without much criticism last year that could have come his way but seemed to be aimed at the keeper and other backs for some reason. He was bang average in his first year. That may be due to settling but there was very little indication of "what's to come" from him even.

6.) 13 Jul 2016 00:17:51
Forgot his birthday.

7.) 13 Jul 2016 00:07:12
Ed001 has said that Clyne is not seen as the long term solution at left back, perhaps he is slightly put out by that.

8.) 13 Jul 2016 00:42:04
Mario gaspar villareal
Mallo celta vigo two goood rightbacks i am a fan of.

9.) 13 Jul 2016 01:04:53
Did see him. argue with klopp a few times when he was on pitch in the initial games klopp in charge.

10.) 12 Jul 2016 22:39:36
James Franco is a terrible actor Ed, but I do think he'd make a good right back.

11.) 12 Jul 2016 23:08:20
Thank you Ed002 for the reply. What do you mean by the fact that Clyne is not keen on certain matters? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It means he is not a happy bunny right now.}

12.) 13 Jul 2016 08:42:55
If he's not happy we should be getting rid. I personally think he's alright. For now atleast but can't have unhappy players.

13.) 13 Jul 2016 08:51:31
I'm very curious to know what his issues are as well. Did you mean right back, Dan? To be fair to him, he was Mr Consistency last season, just didn't exactly excite very often. There are better right backs in the world. Presumably we will be signing Cedric Soares to replace him.

14.) 13 Jul 2016 09:13:24
I did mean right back Jurgen, apologies, perhaps that's why I got so many disagrees? .

15.) 13 Jul 2016 11:22:02
Cedric it is then! 😂.

16.) 13 Jul 2016 14:17:48
Can't believe we missed out on Wanyama and Pelle. For shame! Also, there hasn't been a Shane Long rumour in ages! And I'm well pissed off we dragged our heels and let Bertrand sign a new contract. Hopefully, in what's left of the window, we'll be able to tie up the Jay Rodríguez and Tadic deals to complete our summer shopping. ;)

17.) 13 Jul 2016 17:09:06
Another whinger? He played almost every game last season so what's his beef?

18.) 13 Jul 2016 20:57:32
Barcelona are no longer in the market having just signed Digne (unless they wanted two)

19.) 14 Jul 2016 09:04:27
Except that Digne is a left-back. Obviously his beef can't be game-time. Maybe he doesn't like being shouted at from the touchline? Maybe he thinks he's perfect and doesn't understand why Klopp wants him to improve? He's not so bad, not perfect, but perfectly average.
Please Ed, can you give us any further hint what issues are causing him to have a strop?

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant.}

20.) 14 Jul 2016 20:54:06
Of course important he is a starting right full for LFC why isn't it important to LFC fans.

21.) 15 Jul 2016 08:52:53
The problem is whilst Clyne is decent but nothing special that pretty much describes the majority of FBs out there right now, at best. So the options for replacing him, bar JF being the obvious one, aren't going to add anything. Unless his attitude is Sterling level then what's the issue really?

22.) 17 Jul 2016 08:13:16
Long is rubbish mate I love him Irishman here.

23.) 17 Jul 2016 08:23:47
I agree Istanbul bang average for his country also give flanno a shout.

I really think its time for Jurgen to ditch the 4-3-3, at least temporarily, for a few key reasons.

1. Lack of a "driving force" midfielder who consistently breaks the lines. We can all agree that our midfield lacks severe creativity and stifles our attacking presence - the 3 in midfield, a 3 which usually composes 3 very physically able players but not a true player who breaks the lines of midfield and attack effectively. Chamberlain fits this role superbly, however is injured, and Keita has shown glimpses yet IMO Naby would be more effective as a double pivot in midfield.

2.Our front 3 isn't as prolific by themselves as last year: the 433 last year placed a mammoth emphasis on our front 3 to create and score their own chances, luckily, (particularly in UCL) it worked. However, this year our front 3 currently need more help from midfield. Thus, a change in set up must be meet by Klopp to help get the likes of Salah and Mane firing again. Perhaps Shaqiri as a NO10 or Sturridge dropping in as a second striker next to Bobby? Our attack desperately needs service from behind and centrally.

3. The 433 quite simply doesn't play to our strengths anymore: with more and more teams closing down our passing lanes (ie. Trents long ball down the line to Salah) we have become predictable in an attacking sense. Also, with more options in midfield with Keita and Fabinho and also Shaqiri, Klopp should use this to add a new attacking element to our play. In the past 433 helped us challenge better teams by allowing our "workmanlike midfield" to harry, press and outnumber the midfield into mistakes - we quite simply don't have to do that anymore as we are a better side than in 15/ 16 and 16/ 17 when the 433 was very effective against the top 6.

Conclusion: I would love to see a 4231 of Keita and Fabinho as the double pivots and Shaqiri/ Ox as NO10, Klopp needs to be wary that his current system may be becoming attackingly stale. However, our brilliant defensive record shows we can rely on our defence and they have been the true superstars of the season so far.

1.) 08 Oct 2018 13:27:55
I wouldn't change a thing, we're joint top mate.

2.) 08 Oct 2018 13:39:38
It's a long season, there will be some tinkering at some point, but I agree with Salah, why change it at the moment? We've just gone through our hardest run of fixtures of the season (the hardest until we play Champions League semi final legs around a tough prem game in April), and we're still in good shape, so why go for big changes? What we need, and I know it's coming, is to get the forwards all on the scoresheet in a game, and they'll take huge confidence from that.

3.) 08 Oct 2018 15:13:25
Yeah salah I agree all day mate, but we need flexibility u cannot expect too play same formation same way all the time and not get found out or teams finding ways too stop us, we had coutihno last year til January he was a major creative force an set us on our way til he jumped ship, we have 2 new midfielders there who are struggling too adapt and establish themselves in the team which I am gutted about cos I thought they would have a major impact from the start but I am confident will come good, the most confident we have looked is when Shaqiri started against Southampton we need too get him in squad in a free role creating cos that midfield yesterday will run an pass all day but won't pick a clinical pass .

4.) 08 Oct 2018 15:19:53
After 8 games last season we had 13 points, after 8 games this season we have 20 points. There is no need to change anything.

5.) 08 Oct 2018 15:40:48
Salah, we can't become complacent though. It is clear that we haven't been great perhaps apart from defensively this season so far. We were lucky City missed the chance to win the game yesterday and across the Napoli and City games we barely managed a shot on target - when we come up across the "smaller teams" over the next few games they will defend deep and not come out to play, therefore, we have to mix up our sluggish midfield and we will need to attack a lot better to get results.

6.) 08 Oct 2018 15:48:11
That's great and we have done really well whilst only looking convincing in patches and we have had a tricky start too season took 3 more points at Tottenham an a point more at Chelsea than last season which is sound many top teams will get beat in them fixtures . If we can get the balance right of being defensively sound and keeping our slick attacking instincts we could very well run city very close, the thing worrying me is inbetween the attack an defence an that's the midfield we need someone too dictate play, pick the killer pass whilst breaking play up an put foot on ball . I don't want too sound negative jus my opinion n.

7.) 08 Oct 2018 16:15:54
Agree with most of the things written here. I belive Klopp know what the issue is and will find couple of mechanisams for our front three. For my liking Mane has been taking to many touches and lost eye for pass. Everyone is attacking Salah who is always marked so well and our midfield is not exploiting those areas, that a player like Kovacic would get into and be a threat. Unfourtanatly Keita is not yet that sort of player as he often looks lost and seems not relaxed, as he is always thinking where he should be and what are his duties. When he feels more comfortable he will be great player for us. We need Fabinho at his best soon as he could be like a fresh force in the race. City still the favourites but we are close.

8.) 08 Oct 2018 16:39:59
I think talking about formations is completely useless. Simply because in the modern game, nobody sticks to one precisely, throughout a game and from one game to another. It's all more about reaction and counteraction to what the opposing team is doing, during a game. We have all seen how some teams are shifting to a back 3 in possession and then to a back 4 when being attacked. This is a prime example. Formations have become completely fluid creatures that shift and evolve throughout a game. People talk about "shape" but that, to me, is more about coverage of both vital areas of the field and areas from which there is potential danger.

10.) 08 Oct 2018 19:09:14
Spot on, ArAy1969 and Salah. OP, so we should ditch a system that has done us proud since Klopp came cos we are not scoring as many goals? Really? Have you forgotten how it has been when we would have to outscore teams just to have a chance of winning cos our defence and GK were crap until VVD and Karius were installed since Jan? Also, formations, make no sense cos our team is very versatile and so is the front three.

You say Klopp should go with the 4-3-2-1. You are aware that Klopp tried it vs Saints and tho we won, we were way too exposed in midfield cos Shaq was NOT tracking back, something Ox did a tonne (he is the one we miss the most, IMO and not Fekir, right? If Saints could find that much joy, what do you think City would have done with such space? Exactly. Moral of the story? We are joint top with the best defence (Wait, what? ) in the PL with City, level on points with City, and are undefeated you know, like City. LIFE IS GOOD, man. Chill out and trust the manager and players to get better and stop trying to throw the baby out with the bath water just cos we are not scoring goals or cos the manager is not doing what you nor I want.

11.) 09 Oct 2018 15:32:07
BRover,
You do realize that you don’t need Shaqiri to track back given you play with two holding mid? I really hope Klopp play him in the next match that you lose your stupid argument of this “ not tracking back “
A lot of playmakers doesn’t track back! Hazard, Ozil etc and I don’t see anyone having a problem with it.

Firmino could easily drop into the middle to make up the numbers which he is doing atm. And that isolates our attack upfront!
Shaqiri will add goals! Don’t you like it mate?

12.) 09 Oct 2018 19:09:26
Harry, for someone who likes to tout players and systems, I am shocked (not really) that you clearly have no idea of how Klopp wants his midfielders (no. 10 or not) to play so I'll let you wallow in your ignorance cos me explaining it to you is just too tedious and an excercise in futility. You clearly watch us with a view to criticize Klopp or the players instead of watching exactly how we play, which is not that hard to figure out. Also, Ozil Hazard and the rest of you fantasies don't play for us so no one cares and Klopp will not be changing his style to suit me or you and thank heavens for that. Peace!

29 May 2018 19:25:25
INS?

Fabinho! (Done - Out of nowhere! )
Keita (done)
Fekir (we hold strong interest)
Alisson
Butland (We hold strong interest)

We can dream haha

OUTS?

Markovic
Mignolet
Can
Lallana
Clyne
Ings
Bogdan
Moreno
Randall
Flanagan
Sturridge
Origi
Grujic

That's almost Rodgers squad completely gone from the club barring: Bobby, Lovren, Hendo, Milner and Gomez.

tsteen

1.) 29 May 2018 19:56:50
Hendo is a Dalglish signing.

2.) 29 May 2018 21:24:18
Please not Butland.

3.) 29 May 2018 22:06:02
Either you sign an Allisson or you keep Karius. If you are going to fix the GK position, fix it once and for all and move on. Butland is a non starter in this respect as he is error prone too.

4.) 29 May 2018 22:45:15
I totally agree brover. There must be other high class keeper other than Alison and oblak. Someone not playing for a huge team.

If we are going to sign a keeper he has to be top notch. Butland is pointless imo, although I doubt he would've made those mistakes last weekend. If we do sign butland I will give him my full support and in truth he probably does have massive potential. I dunno.

If we signed a massive keeper then I would be pleased enough with this window. All cbs have a mistake in them, I like lovren and he has looked a better player with big virgil. Klavan, matip and gomez is actually pretty classy cover.
I know we could do with another attacking player but ings and solanke is pretty good.

29 May 2018 19:03:13
Would everyone agree that we need someone with pace off the bench? Outside of the first 11 we lack a player that we can stretch the game with, and pin the opposition back. Ings has lost a lot of the pace he once had, Solanke is a different style of player. I remember Benitez used Babel off the bench many times in Europe, and it proved to be a deadly tactic as Babel was naturally very quick and could devastate opponents for the last 20 25 mins of a game.

Perhaps Wilson could be a solution next season, or maybe we could buy someone else?

tsteen

1.) 29 May 2018 19:33:54
I agree we did lack pace off bench in final. Had the ox been fit he may well have been an option on the right. Wilson may be an option, Ojo even at a push but I would suspect a forward player who could cover front positions. Given I have never seen him play is Fekir quick?

Cheers.

2.) 29 May 2018 19:42:58
Someone coming off the bench will be playing against tired legs anyway so pure pace isn’t always needed, quality off the bench sometimes is though.

3.) 29 May 2018 19:47:02
Klopp has one eye on Dembele of Barcelona who is a speed merchant! Personally I would have looked at Bailey of Leverkusen.

4.) 29 May 2018 20:22:18
The argument is who is going to be content with coming off the bench when their transfer fee (in the current market) could easily be 40mill plus?

5.) 29 May 2018 21:24:32
Fatboy that is the conundrum we have to solve. Our limited options off the bench were the gulf in the CL final. We are limited but it does not have to be that way. To compete we need at least 3 game changers on the bench, and we have to take into account 5-6 players missing through injury. That is a first XI plus 8-9 outfield players, who need to be quality. And a decent back up GK. They do not all need a o be £40m + but the way transfer prices escalate .

27 May 2018 18:23:44
Last night connected me to our team like I've never felt it before. I can't wait for next season and the redemption that will come, I am sure will come! Last night will have changed this team its going to DRIVE them even further, all that upset, emotion anxiety is going to fuel us next season. Victory is going to be so sweet and mean so much more when it comes. YNWA, what a journey and what a future we have!

tsteen

1.) 27 May 2018 18:40:40
I really hope you’re right. I’m a bit skeptical when it comes to actually winning the league but I’m pretty sure we’ll win something next season, just got to be ruthless.

2.) 27 May 2018 18:50:11
I think this group will get yo another ucl final, in the next 2/ 4 years. And when we get there it won't be a case of us being inexperienced.

3.) 27 May 2018 20:24:27
This is NOT the end, lads. Au contraire, it is only the beginning.

12 Jan 2018 23:43:46
Aside from the utter chaos that has gone down on this site after Macca's mischievous hints 😂 I thought I'd continue my list of plauers that genrally avoid media spotlight and I feel are talented players. Note: This is not a direct list of players that I feel we should sign nor am I saying we are interested in them.

Daniel Wass, Celta Vigo (CM)
Andrea Consigli, Sassuolo (GK)
Houssem Aouar, Lyon (CM) Very promising young player.
Alfred Finnbogason, Augsburg (ST) Having a brill season in Germany.
Giuliano, Fernabache (CAM)
Lucas Torreira, Sampdoria (CM)
Pablo Maffeo, Girona (on loan from City) (RB)
David Neres, Ajax (RW)
Alvaro Odriozola, Sociedad (RB)
Mo Elyounoussi, Basel (RW)
Salif Sane, Hannover (CB)
Jacub Jankto, Udinese (CM)

Please comment and share your ideas about those that have daughter my eye, it would be much appreciated!

tsteen

1.) 13 Jan 2018 00:21:43
Do you watch lots of football or read about these players? There is quite a varied selection. I've heard of very few of these guys. If you watch all this lot, there's quite a lot of commitment there!

2.) 13 Jan 2018 03:26:08
He said it was a top top player that we hadn’t been linked with and we would be pleased if we got him. I don’t think a bunch of talented players, most of which need to be googled fall into that bracket. appreciate the effort you made in writing the list though, I’ll look a few up!

3.) 13 Jan 2018 12:22:26
I think it is unrealistic to believe that Antoine Griezmann would come to Liverpool. His agent may have been approached as I would expect, but it is a distant hope he may be interested. This is likely the player Macca had in mind. More realistic is Thomas Lemar, but that wouldn't be easy either. Although if Lemar came, Griezmann's attitude might change. I still don't understand why Macca hinted at such an outside choice?
Mahrez really wants to go to Arsenal. The other names mentioned are definitely maybe.
I would still like a top class keeper and a couple of bargains nobody has thought about. There is still to the end of January.
Fingers crossed!

4.) 13 Jan 2018 15:01:45
Did you even read the post yuri? A top top player we hadn’t been linked with- that rules out Lemar as he’s been linked since last year. It’s Griezmann or Fekir.

5.) 13 Jan 2018 16:14:25
The above list has got nothing to do with Maccas info that we are interested in a french international. As I clearly state in the post it is simply a fun list of players who people may not have heard a lot about, but I feel are good players and are performing well at the moment.

DeanW, I can gurantee you that Keita is special. He is much better than our current midfield options. Keita had the likes of Barca, Arsenal, Bayern all interested in his signature. Whilst this season he has been rash and not quite hit the performances of last year (which was a very high bar anyway) he is still young, cleanly doesn't want to be at Leipzig (which is not an excuse) and to be honest still has put in some great games this season. In short, I wouldn't worry.

Murphy is talking absolute bollocks. Keita will be the main "driver" of our midfield, picking up the ball from deep. He will be relied upon to be our main creative outlet from midfield whilst also contributing to defence, pressing of opposition etc. Keita is very very talented with an energy that perhaps can match that of Ngolo Kante. Ignore Murphy, he is the complete opposite to what Henderson has sadly become for us, Keita is a dynamo with the ability to play incisive one touch football or score from 30+ yards. Keita will be, and already is to some extent, special.

So fans are expected to travel (on both sides, European and British) across the continent every couple of weeks to see their team play? I really really don't like that idea, fans are struggling as it is with exorbitant ticket prices, how on earth is it feasible to exoect to keep the solid core of a fanbase if we have to get flights, trains, accomodation? Its greed pure and simple and its not even a progression in my eyes, but more of a step back where we will lock people financially and geographically. I hope this proposal never goes ahead.

The above list has got nothing to do with Maccas info that we are interested in a french international. As I clearly state in the post it is simply a fun list of players who people may not have heard a lot about, but I feel are good players and are performing well at the moment.

Surely he wouldn't be too expensive and should be fairly attainable. Have the club took a look at him? Made Micheal keane look competent last year!

{Ed001's Note - I am not aware of any interest from us. I was surprised Everton took Keane rather than him to be honest.}
