Got a real solid rumour for everyone.
Ante Coric just liked my 68week old instagram comment "come to liverpool mate"
Clearly on his way in January.
You're welcome!

spoonlord

1.) 25 Nov 2017 03:22:13
Ante Coric is not even half as good as Woodburn. Y?

2.) 25 Nov 2017 13:14:25
I think if couts leaves woodburn should be given a chance instead of bringing in a replacement.

3.) 25 Nov 2017 14:12:52
Donnyred92. Would love that too but unfortunately won't happen. Woodburn would have a couple of bad games which is expected at his age and everyone would be on his case every opportunity . A player of coutinho quality needs to be replaced with quality and I'm not saying like for like. We all know the problems in the team and I don't know about everyone else but if I was offered the chance of selling coutinho for x amount and sign oblak and vvd for similar amount of money I think that would overall make us a better team even losing a world class player like coutinho.

4.) 25 Nov 2017 15:50:07
Exactly IR89. If we lost two or three games in a row once coutinho leaves twitter, the papers and prob this site would be flooded with people saying we didn't replace coutinho.

5.) 25 Nov 2017 23:59:59
I do agree IR89 and it's a shame that that is how the modern game is. But I also agree that if couts leaves we should really aim to focus on shoring up our defence before looking for a direct replacement. In a perfect world it would be great if he had a change of heart and we sorted the defence too haha but can't see that happening.

6.) 27 Nov 2017 18:07:19
I like Woodburn but he is basically a stick figure currently, he needs to gain some muscle in order to play regularly in the prem.

7.) 28 Nov 2017 14:18:03
Agreed, Woodburn has huge potential but IMO needs gradually introducing to first team football.

17 Nov 2017 19:33:17
Hi Eds,
genuine question about Pipco I'm afraid! But I'm not sure if I've seen you address this angle.

With the Coutinho issue seemingly toxic, what was the reasoning behind the club keeping him and turning down the summer offers.
Was it the fact that they didn't have a replacement but now Salah has performed better than expected and he's not such a big miss?
Is it because the club don'd like the optics of being seen as a selling club?
Did they fear a fan mutiny?
Someone in particular vetoed the deal?
Did they think (as all us fans would) that he would just get on with it?
Or is it something else or a mix of a few things.

I do appreciate these things are complex and that the landscape is constantly changing and there's a lot of pressure to do deals.

We can say with the benefit of hindsight it looks like the deal should have been done then. you always hear the football truism that there's no point keeping a player at a club once they have their heart set on a move elsewhere.
So just curious, why did dig our heels in so hard?
In the case of Coutinho and perhaps VVD it seems to have panned out that way.
The club is left with a disruptive player and probably will get a lower fee than was possible in the summer. and they probably end up there anyway!
So what did they think was going to happen?
Apologies if this seems besides the point or a bit dim. it all just seems like a bit of a farce from where I'm standing. wasted energy.

Cheers for all the top work keeping us informed.
YNWA.

{Ed002's Note - i can’t really answer the reasons why but Liverpool are one of the clubs that embroil themselves in drawn out transfers. Other clubs work the not happy > decent bid > gone paradigm. It works for them. Being stuck with players not 100% committed is not neat.}

1.) 18 Nov 2017 03:27:05
We thrashed Arsenal and West ham without him.

2.) 18 Nov 2017 00:44:49
thanks the response ed002.

3.) 19 Nov 2017 08:56:34
He seemed committed yesterday and what about the 'big luv' between him and Klopp when he was substituted!

4.) 19 Nov 2017 12:33:39
Agreed, was 100% committed yesterday and there's some man love between him n Klopp for certain. Looks a little greedy at times but has been nowt but professional on the field for us.
He'll still leave though I'm sure.

5.) 19 Nov 2017 19:47:05
Spoon and Ed2 I really think you are missing the point here. It wasn’t so much about Coutinho as about a statement to players and other teams that we won’t be held to ransom or bullied by other clubs.

Having just built a new stand and got back into the CL it just sends out the wrong message to the other players and to the world if we go and sell our best players again.

If we’d sold Couts then we give the green light to all the teams in Europe that they can cherry pick our best players. We also then tell all our best players that they can go if they kick up a bit of a stink.

We had no choice but to hold firm in my opinion for the good of the club as a whole.

{Ed002's Note - The players and other clubs are not interested in any “messages” the club sends out.}

6.) 20 Nov 2017 08:14:13
I agree with Ingsand things. It does seem clubs do care what other clubs think, we re constantly reminded of the fact. Fulham, Soton spring to mind straight away.

I think it says we are trying at least to say we won't be steam rolled.

Couts needs to show his minerals otherwise he risks being overlooked by other clubs and his national team. Attitude is part of that, and maybe he's been reminded you shouldn't sh1t on people on the way up, as the saying goes.

{Ed002's Note - Fulham and Southampton coomplained about Liverpool for their illegal approaches for players. No one cares about any "messages" Liverpool send out - except the Liverpool fans. Peaople continue to be of the view there is something special about the club and the Liverpool players, there isn't.}

Ante coric liking more Liverpool photos on Instagram including one of kloppo with a beaming smile. Really hope we get this lad even though it's probably unlikely. Amazing talent.

spoonlord

1.) 31 Jul 2016 16:07:38
He should stay put and get regular football IMO.
We could field 2 teams of midfielders at the minute, another would be literally BONKERS. 😝.

2.) 31 Jul 2016 16:42:33
potentially agree with you Ron, unless Lallana and Markovic go no point in bringing someone in, i'd hate to lose out though - buy and loan back for the season?

3.) 31 Jul 2016 16:55:57
Grt him and loan him back.

4.) 31 Jul 2016 17:52:30
And then change the name of the club to Chelsea.

5.) 31 Jul 2016 21:51:57
Yeah change the name of the club to chelsea. At least your name would be on the premier league trophy.

6.) 31 Jul 2016 23:21:20
But only on 1 European cup.

7.) 01 Aug 2016 06:56:18
I can only hope that we end up with a loan program that is as well run as Chelsea's apparently is. As it stands at least they have a plan for each of their players. In the last few years we have had to watch a number of players see their careers go backwards by joining us. In my opinion, one of the best things Klopp has done is look at the way we treat our youngsters and seek to fix some of the issues with it. Buy/ loan back works well if the player is settled in a club which suits the way we want our players to play.

{Ed001's Note - Chelsea's is awful! Very few of the players improve due to it. They very rarely get anyone for their first team from it, which should be the sole aim of the club. It is just a pointless waste of resources.}

8.) 01 Aug 2016 09:12:43
Thank dog you disagreed with that last post, Ed.
Chelsea's policy is just totally selfish and scatter-gun.
They don't give a toss about the individual players.

Just a few examples: Ken Omeruo, a 31 cap international who has been bouncing from club to club for 4 years. Cristian Cuevas, another full international whose career was just thrown on the dung-pile. Marco van Ginkel, big things were expected of him until Chelski came along and interrupted his natural development. Lucas Piazón, a very talented player last seen warming the bench at Reading. His career has been on a steady downward curve since signing for dem greedy blues. And Christian Atsu? I never understood why he signed for Chelsea or why Chelsea signed him. He wasn't that young and was already performing heroics for Ghana. But, leaving a CL club like Porto after winning the league and then being sent to Vitesse Arnhem the next day? Wtf is that about!?

9.) 01 Aug 2016 10:05:48
Good post Jurgen Meister, Chelsea just seem to speculate because they have the money and buy whatever they can. You'd even wonder are they just scared they'd miss out on someone so they buy them anyway.

{Ed001's Note - no, they plan to develop them for a profit. It is not fear or about buying whoever they can, there is a plan in place. The issue, for me, is that it is taking away resources from the number one priority of the club - the first team.}

10.) 01 Aug 2016 10:18:02
ED001 glad you said that, I shied away from outright saying it because it is more speculative than what I said but has always felt that way. It is wrong on so many levels, as you say they don't develop players (meaning they then go out and buy more for first team), players don't develop, the resources available to other clubs are reduced unless they want to loan (with no guarantees of getting more than a season), wasn't there a recent transfer where they basically gazumped Palace and then lent the guy back to the selling club?

{Ed001's Note - I can't remember, they have nipped in and beaten clubs to buy up young talent, but then so have we, with the sole intention of developing them.}

11.) 01 Aug 2016 11:31:04
Think you mean Michael Hector. Yeah, that (and Djilobodji) was a weird one. He could be starting for Palace but instead, the only minutes he's played on their US tour were on the golf course. Once Zouma comes back he won't even be fifth choice and Conte is probably going to spunk some big money on a center-back very soon. While they also have Andreas Christensen coming back from his time as an actual footballer next summer. Chelsea are just vulgar human traffickers.

Yes we have our weaknesses but also. salah vs Delph
Come on Red Men!
No reason why we can’t beat city at anfield.

spoonlord

1.) 14 Jan 2018 14:23:46
Get the feeling they will play Danilo there to combat Salah.

2.) 14 Jan 2018 14:26:01
I belive he won't start Delph, we'll see tho.

3.) 14 Jan 2018 14:29:37
I agree Andy. Pep will do something to combat Salah no way would he leave Delph in but be great if he did.

4.) 14 Jan 2018 14:45:23
But Salah will likely be allowed to swap with Firmino or someone and if he gets little boy down the flank he’ll move central surely? We’re a fluid team and that should help.

5.) 14 Jan 2018 15:26:01
:Little boy down the flank"I know its not but it does sound so wrong😁.

6.) 14 Jan 2018 19:46:36
Maybe, but neither of them is a specialist left back or even defender.
Salah can have either on toast.

10 Jun 2015 01:37:49
At the moment, I would be so happy if we sold a fringe player. seems weird but it feels like the club have forgotten how to do it!

spoonlord

1.) 10 Jun 2015 09:39:35
fringe player? like who ? all of them have played for the first team and considerable number of matches

2.) 10 Jun 2015 12:48:34
I would expect Aspas to go any day now. We really were brilliant for his career weren't we. Alberto will probably follow him too.

3.) 10 Jun 2015 21:29:25
Aspas contributed to Sevilla winning the EL and will be playing in the CL next year. Not bad for a guy BR hailed YET never gave a chance. And BR,who bought and hailed him in the media, will remain potless for the forseeable future as well as on the brink with every passing day. I`d say he got the best out of that deal.

03 Jun 2015 00:54:46
Seeing as it's looking like we'll get Milner (no-brainer signing I think) and how versatile he is. just wondering what do people think would be his best position in our team?

I know he's known to prefer a central midfield role but if we keep playing a wingback system i think he would be an ideal RWB as he has a great cross and will defend his wing solidly and link up well.

Don't think anyone really made that position their own for us this season and would like to see marko and ibe used further forward anyway.

He can tackle but I don't think he's the CDM some make him out to be. i think we'd do well to sign a proper classy one.

On another note. sad to see it's not looking like there will be an improvement in how our transfer dealings are reported/leaked early in the media. Top clubs don't have stories in papers saying "we've more-or-less signed player X" they just sign them and announce them. hopefully there's some desire at fsg to tighten this up as it looks amateurish to me and i'm just a no nothing fan.

spoonlord

1.) 03 Jun 2015 06:28:33
If Brendan has any sense, he would revert back to the diamond formation and use Milner and Hendo as box to box mids on either side of Lucas/Can. please do not even mention RWB or LWB on this forum. I do not want to see the team resort to desperation by going back to 3 at the back. But going by Brendan's cluelessness, i would not be surprised if Milner ended up as our 1st choice GK.

23 Dec 2014 02:12:30
Hey eds, just seen liverpool legend Sami hyppia has resigned from Brighton. Any long shot chance he could come back to lfc as a coach to help us with defence? Just wishful thinking I know but could be good for all parties perhaps?

spoonlord

{Ed001's Note - unlikely unless forced on him by the club, Rodgers has already said he doesn't want a defensive coach.}

17 Nov 2014 04:17:32
really disappointed to see so many reds on this page becoming such humourless, reactionary and, dare i say, entitled eejits. be careful what you wish for, we could end up turning worse than spurs if we go down this rodgers out road. obviously we're going through a bad patch and there are circumstances people not achieving their best. guess what. sometimes teams go through a patch of bad form. our players aren't playing well, the manager's not getting the best out of them for now, so the trannys look poor while that's happening but it only takes 2 or 3 wins or so before everyone changes their bloody tune. look at newcastle. what happened to getting behind the team and the joy of being a football fan. still in cl, still in league cup. still can get top 4, still have promising players who can make us dream again. just don't understand all the entitlement. really thought reds were better than that. YNWA

spoonlord

{Ed001's Note - nothing to do with entitlement. Shows how little you understand if that is what you think it is about. It is to do with having an arrogant, overly stubborn manager who is overspending and talking nonsense, while not being able to back it up with results on the pitch. Comparing it with Newcastle is just ridiculous. It is not even close to the same situation. All of the Newcastle fans know Pardew is managing with one hand tied behind his back by Ashley and that is the main issue there. A lot don't like the manager too, but the main frustration is Ashley who they can't do anything about, so Pardew was just getting the brunt of it.}

The gall of a reds fan to call naby bang average 😂
Get that he could have played with more consistency but to call a player with his skills bang average is a joke. if he played for Watford everyone would want us to sign him 🤣🤣
Bang average Hahahaha I’m dying

Very interesting that people see his qualities in midfield, ed1. Thanks.
Do you have any inclination of what type of midfield role Trent is expected by the club to play. or in your opinion where his attributes would see him suited?

I. e. the deeper “6” type role or a more box to box role with more attacking license type role.
Appreciate this is asking for a crystal ball in some respect and players can adapt to many roles but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

spoonlord

{Ed001's Note - more of a box to box type role as he has pace and energy to get up and down.}

The interest in Navas makes me wonder if Karius is expected to keep the shirt of he keeps playing well and Navas could be an experienced number 2.

This guy is one of the cleanest strikers of the ball i’ve ever seen. Would be great for replacing PC’s goals from outside the box.

IMO pep is tactically naive over 2 legs and overcomplicated. Always seems to try something ‘clever and surprising’ that bites him in the bum.
The 2 leg format doesn’t suit city because their home support And aura is so weak compared to most established European giants.
His teams, so dominant in the league and used to blowing teams away, are also not tested enough and get surprised when actually going toe to toe with class opposition.
You could also argue the expectation for them to justify themselves and finally win it makes it harder for them, a bit like how winning the league again for us is a kind of burden.

Fair enough wanting new players but it’s simply not true that buying players is the only way to improve.
Buying a new player could just as easily disrupt the incredible squad harmony that is one of our strongest and most unique weapons.
The scary thing about our team is we have not even seen them at their best yet!
