No ward or wilson playing today due to interest from outside teams. Looks like loans for both. Heard anything eds?

slowdog76

{Ed002's Note - There is a great deal of interest in Wilson. As far as I recall, didn't Klopp tell Ward he could have a shot at being number 1? But he says that a lot of course.}

1.) 14 Jul 2018 16:21:29
I thought wilson would be given a chance in preseason. This would indicate not I would imagine.

2.) 14 Jul 2018 16:22:39
I see the express has said we've submitted a bid for allison, I take this is not true ed? Seeing ward not in the squad a lot are putting 2+2 together and probably getting 10.

{Ed002's Note - It would be a lot for a number 3 goalkeeper behind joint number 1s Ward and Karius. Obvious joint number 3 or number 4 if Mignolet stays.}

3.) 14 Jul 2018 16:56:23
The Echo has said that Ward will play the whole game against Blackburn on Thursday.

4.) 14 Jul 2018 19:00:53
Klopp has told Moreno he has a shot at being #1 this season.

5.) 14 Jul 2018 19:16:46
What? That bastard, he told me I was his number 1 😂.

6.) 14 Jul 2018 19:46:55
Personally I’ve had a change of heart over who I think is coming to be #1.

I thought for a long time it would be Butland, but that hasn’t happened. He’s at the World Cup which could explain it.

However, now I think Courtois will join Real Madrid and Navas will come to Liverpool once Courtois returns.

7.) 14 Jul 2018 20:00:14
Now it appears that Ward will at last be given his opportunity to stake a claim, with the Mirror’s David Maddock reporting he has hugely impressed the manager since returning for training.

Harry Wilson has been omitted from the Liverpool squad to face Bury today as he is closing in on a loan move, Jürgen Klopp has explained.

“Wardy and Loris, they’ve switched because today Loris will play longer than 45 minutes, and then Wardy will in the next game and so that’s the only reason for that, ” the boss told Liverpoolfc. com.

8.) 15 Jul 2018 00:28:44
Klopp said in the pre match build up Karius was playing the majority game today and Ward will do the same against Blackburn.

9.) 15 Jul 2018 01:22:24
It would make sense to give Ward game time in the preseason, especially with VVD back. I have not seen much of Ward but I heard he had a decent spell with Huddersfield and improved a lot. I hear he is a decent shop stopper but not sure about his command of area or distribution skills. I became comfortable with Karius from his performances Jan - March, but I would say that was a purple patch rather than his standard, its no coincidence he considerable improved with the arrival of VVD telling him what to do and where to be. Klopp needs careful consideration in this area, glad Bogdan's got himself a loan move to get a chance of some football and kick start the later part of his years. I doubt Migs will stay and play second or third fiddle so he will look for a move. So it makes sense to put Ward in the sticks to put the pressure on Karius to find his form back similar to playing Milner at left back for a whole season and telling Moreno to step up.

10.) 15 Jul 2018 01:58:08
Hope that's the case. Ward could be a gem. I find him to be extremely strong mentally, never seen him lack confidence in the few chances he's been given at LFC and in his loan spells. I'd take a chance on him, at least in preseason to see what he's made of!

05 Jan 2018 10:06:18
File under "that was expected" but sky are now reporting Can has agreed terms with Juve to sign in the summer.

slowdog76

1.) 05 Jan 2018 10:27:08
If he signs then I can't see how he justifies selection for the remainder of the season.

2.) 05 Jan 2018 10:33:27
Jayden, it is surely similar to Keita at RBL. He is our player until the summer and we use Can if needed.

3.) 05 Jan 2018 10:33:28
Problem is Jayden, we’re desperately short of quality options in centre midfield so it’s not like beggars can be choosers. If we signed Goretzka or some other top class cm player I’d agree that he can sit the rest of the season out on the bench or in the stiffs but that ain’t happening. We’re now stuck with a player who’ll give the minimum effort he can in case of injury. Slow handclaps to all concerned with this mess.

4.) 05 Jan 2018 10:38:55
Let’s hope we do sign someone so we can drop him for the rest of the season. If nothing else, this should have been done behind closed doors.

{Ed002's Note - What should have been done behind closed doors? Why should he be dropped? It is simply a player coming to the end of his contyract and looking to move on. Just like Goretzka. The Liverpool posts are becoming embarrassing and stupid (again). It is like you have no grasp at all of the real world.}

5.) 05 Jan 2018 10:44:57
Just a thought (and I doubt this is the case but thought I would ask), is Can really dead-set on leaving, or just using a “pre contract agreement in principle” as a tool to get what he really wants out of Liverpool I. e wages, guaranteed playing time etc?

Just seems a bit odd that Klopp has apparently said he is happy for him to still sign a new contract with us even if at the end of the season. Seems a bit of a call your bluff scenario (if you were cynical :)

6.) 05 Jan 2018 10:48:24
Move Grujic up pecking order.

{Ed002's Note - Grujic needs to go on loan.}

7.) 05 Jan 2018 10:59:04
For me the difference with the Keita situation is that RBL decided to accept that deal. Where as with Can it looks like he decided to leave. What's the situation if we face Juventus in CL at some point? It's a difficult situation all round unless we find a replacement soon.

Correct MrDennis. Similar to the Coutinho situation.

8.) 05 Jan 2018 10:59:10
Why should a player sit on the bench just because he’s agreed a move? So if Coutinho agrees to move in summer should be bench him as well? Should Keita be dropped because he’s moving to Liverpool? Isn’t this all getting a bit stupid.

9.) 05 Jan 2018 10:54:04
The club should have never let his contract run down, simple. Also it’s a World Cup year so he’s hardly likely to sit on his arse for the rest of the season he wants in that squad. We deal with it and we move on. Next.

{Ed002's Note - If he doesn't want to sign a contract then his time at the club will be limited to the length of that contract. I really think you are all struggling to get this - whilst dribbling all over Goretzka of cours.}

10.) 05 Jan 2018 10:55:42
I think that’s unfair on Can. He’s obviously known for ages he wasn’t signing a new deal, would you say there’s been a lack of desire and application from him so far this season? Time will tell but with the World Cup approaching I don’t see him giving everything but his all.

11.) 05 Jan 2018 10:56:12
What mess? This happens with most Bosmans. We offered a contract, he doesn't want to sign. Hopefully he goes down the pecking order, which in my book ain't no bad thing. Too many holes appear when he plays at number 6 as Klopp calls it and he offers little going forward for the most part. Like one of the eds said, if Klopp rated him higher, things might be different.

12.) 05 Jan 2018 11:02:17
Emre Can is a professional. I’m sure that he will give his all like he always has.
He has a World Cup position to play for as well.
If he’s the best man at Melwood, I’m sure he’ll be in the team. If he’s not, I’m sure he won’t be.
He’s given us 4 years of his life and has done nothing wrong in not wanting to sign a new contract.
We all have to move onto new pastures at some point in our lives.

13.) 05 Jan 2018 11:08:13
Regardless of opinions on this, i just wanted to tip my hat to you Ed002. You called this half a year ago and took the usual stick for it, and you've all had to answer constant questions about this despite telling us all from day one exactly what was happening behind the scenes.

This is why this site is the best. I told my mates last summer Can would leave on a free to Juventus in 2018. They now think I'm a psychic! I may not have a crystal ball, but i do have an Ed002's Note!

14.) 05 Jan 2018 11:04:32
Jayden23, if someone hands in their notice at work, do you tell them to go chill at home? no they work till their time is up. Can is getting paid so when he is needed he will play. I assume your more than happy with Coutinho playing whilst he is employed by the club even though his intentions are clear.

{Ed001's Note - it does depend on the job. If they are in a position to damage the company they work for, they are usually escorted straight off the premises to spend the notice period at home.}

15.) 05 Jan 2018 11:06:20
Jordz, by default we have accepted the scenario, we knew the player was in his last year of his contract and didn't tie him down (we all know that a player can agree a pre contract with a team abroad) . If he plays and gives 100% then I have no issue with him playing. If however his attitude is poor then he shouldn't be picked.

16.) 05 Jan 2018 11:11:31
Thing is that the sticking point over the new contract was relatively easy to resolve and no one at the club backed down or looked to find a happy medium for all parties, so now we lose him on a free.

17.) 05 Jan 2018 11:16:35
Ed001, in a scenario like this where there has seemingly been no issues with employers and colleagues, merely just looking for a change, being paid the wage he is, in my experience, you see out your notice. He has acted professionally thus far.

{Ed001's Note - I was not saying we should do so, just pointing out your comments are incorrect. It does not matter about professionalism etc, in many businesses anyone handing in notice in a position to effect the performance of the business significantly will not serve out a notice period, unless it is a notice with a view to retirement. Football is a different thing anyway, you can't really make comparisons as a player has no option but to join a potential competitor of some kind, whereas in a normal walk of life they often go to a totally different industry.}

18.) 05 Jan 2018 11:35:44
I don't normally agree with Ed002 but will side with him/ her on this occasion.

Can and his agent have shown nothing but an exemplary attitude even though the player is looking for pastures new. Like any normal human in a normal job, sometimes its time for change and footballers are no different. You would never ever have thought he was looking for out, his mind and heart hasn't been elsewhere, no faking of injuries or spewing off to the media he has got his head down and concentrated on his work.

How we as fans have rewarded this is by slagging him off and condemning him to 'rot in the reserves' in a year where a world cup is taking place. Emre Can has given us good service and has given everything to the LFC cause since he arrived. Show a bit of class and humility, wish the guy all the best and bloody move on.

19.) 05 Jan 2018 11:56:43
don't think Can has had a bad season for us in fact I think it has been his best he has got 6 months left and I think he will give his all and until he does not how does he deserve to be dropped. the only reason has the eds have said many times before he wants to go to be first choice and he won't be next year when Naby comes.

20.) 05 Jan 2018 11:46:35
If Klopp wanted him that much, he would have signed. This is not an Ozil, Sanchez situation. Definitely not a coutinho situation. Standard bosman. He wants to be the main man (or at least one of them) . If all are fit, He's unlikely to make the team at Liverpool.

21.) 05 Jan 2018 12:07:55
Thing is that as MK said earlier, he’s been pulling out of 50/ 50 challenges and giving the absolute minimum (at times strolling around letting the game pass him by, like Arsenal and Swansea), so for that he should be dropped, but the problem is that we have no one else who can actually play in the specific role of midfield anchor. So we are really in between a rock and a hard place as we have a player that really doesn’t want to play for the club and is committed elsewhere and having to have to play him because we have no other suitable options.

22.) 05 Jan 2018 12:10:24
I actually rate Can and would have wanted him to stay. Fans want rid of Couts because he no longer wants to play for the club so I'm merely suggesting how would he justify selection if he as chosen to sign with someone else. This has no relation to RBL for me as I don't support them.

23.) 05 Jan 2018 12:13:10
Players can’t win. We moan about couts for trying to get out of his contract and we moan about Can for honoring his for its full term and then moving on. At the same time we want Keita to get out of his contract early, Goretzka to sign a pre contract with us as he honours his final 6 months and disrupt VVD enough to make him force his way out of his own contract. Lol.

24.) 05 Jan 2018 12:09:54
Just a thought but will Emery be first choice at juve? Last time I checked they were a class team with a strong squad.

25.) 05 Jan 2018 12:25:51
Ed002. I’m not dribbling over Goretzka as he is not a Liverpool player. As for Can, surely the club - to protect their investment - should have offered him a short improved deal with a release clause so he could trigger it when Juve came calling. So LFC get a fee for him and he gets a bit more in his weekly wage packet until he goes. Everyone’s happy. I get the principle of his contract having a finite lifetime so it will have run down. I just think it would have made better business sense to get however many pounds for him and then let him go.

{Ed002's Note - The club did not want to do that.}

26.) 05 Jan 2018 12:27:51
I defended him in the summer Swishcleaner. I had a lot of respect for somebody seeing out their contract and playing to their full effort levels.

Can hasn't done that in the last 2 months though and that has changed my opinion on him. I would drop him for the Ozil goal against Arsenal on it's own. Not because a player ran off him from midfield, but because he watched Ozil do it and then gestured at the defence afterwards as if it was their fault. He's turned into a lazy get, because he's no longer committed. If he won't apply himself, then i don't give a monkeys about his world cup dreams. What about the 30 million Liverpool fans who are dreaming about silver ware this season? Can shouldn't play for the club, but Dennis makes a very good point, that he will probably have to with Henderson being injured. Personally I'd play Matty Virtue from the u23's ahead of Can, right now. He is a monster who never bottles a tackle and will run through barbed wire for a chance at a future here. Can has no heated interest in our club now and we should only use him if we have to from now onwards.

27.) 05 Jan 2018 12:42:34
Well said Tristan, Samuel and Swish. it's ridiculous some of the comments on here people wanting to punish a player for not signing a new contract that he's under no obligation to do so.

These players are human beings doing a job and so long as he's giving his all why under an existing contract, why should we not applaud him for his efforts and use him on the pitch? Why punish him for something he's entirely within his rights to do?

The only problem comes in should he fail to give his all, in which case he gets dropped (just like any other player) . I doubt he'd be that unprofessional though and not a good idea for the lad in WC year.

End of.

28.) 05 Jan 2018 12:23:52
ED001 - its called gardening leave, I like the Redmen TV analysis of Emre - he is a wood cutter rather than a carpenter. LFC have done quite well with players we do not want to leave on a free - I cannot think of anyone since Macca that we wanted to stay but did not and wind down their contract. Plus Emre is still a LFC player with a LFC contract and he will fulfill his contractual obligation which is playing to the best of his woodcutting abilities regardless what the future holds for Emre,

29.) 05 Jan 2018 12:45:15
MrDennis, How is the sticking point over the contract relatively easy to sort? Can wants guaranteed football which Klopp can't promise. He also wants a buyout clause which the club do not want. If you give one player a buyout clause, then every subsequent player will want one therefore weakening our hand in the transfer market.

In my opinion, everything has been done properly. LFC offered the best deal they could and Can and his agent are sticking to what they want. If a deal can't be reached then it is inevitable that the player will leave at the end of his contract and nobody is to blame.

You can't force a player to sign and you can't force a club into an unfair deal.

Good luck to him.

30.) 05 Jan 2018 13:02:34
Yyyaaaaawwwwnnnn! The uncertainty surrounding coutinho and can has great potential to derail a top 4 challenge.

It sends a better message now to sell coutinho with confidence and take the 140 mill. It says to the rest of the squad I trust you to get the job done re top 4.

If you look at klopps previous teams they were all about pace power and high press. If you look at the Keita buy to me he is looking that way again. He wants box to box midfielder. Coutinho is tricky and a genius at times but he does not fit with that future for me. Whereas salah mane and firmino do. So sell now and reinvest wisely in the summer.

Regards can I think that the lad has behaved well enough over this. I think he has made his intent clear to the club. Tbh If you look at the quality of midfield we are looking to create he won't get in it regularly in the future. He has moments of quality but not often enough. So for me heads off in the summer with a pat on the back and a thanks for your service.

May be it is just where I have worked but most folks working notice behave well and act professionally. Because it is wise never to fully close a door.

31.) 05 Jan 2018 13:12:13
Jordz, lewondowski agreed to sign for Bayern from Dortmund, and had an electric final year with Dortmund and even played Bayern in the champions league final. It shouldn't affect the player if he plays Juve, as I'm sure he'd rather win it with us before he leaves, than watch his new team win it before he arrives.

32.) 05 Jan 2018 13:14:49
MK my point was more around the hypocrisy around these contracts with players. Totally get that if they’re not playing well they should be dropped- but I think he’s just had a few lapses of concentration. If I recall it was his driving run as he rode two tough challenges to get us the free kick against burnley which we got the winner from- that did not look like a man not trying. It’s a World Cup year and he needs to play to get included in the Germany squad which hopefully means he needs to play well for us to do that.

33.) 05 Jan 2018 13:16:47
The main sticking point as I understand was the wish to have a release clause rather than guaranteed playing time.

34.) 05 Jan 2018 13:18:19
Mr Dennis - Not really sure what you mean with your comments in regards to Emre's recent performances. You say he walked through the game at Arsenal and Swansea. I was at the game at Emirates and Emre covered a massive amount of ground, due to Milner rarely being in the correct position defensively. Along with that, just before Coutinho got subbed off, Emre actually went down with cramp, yet continued to play on, though he had run himself into the ground. Alongside that against Burnley it was Emre who won the free kick which we scored from in the 94th minute. He was the one showing desire, going forward. Hardly someone who is not trying.
Not sure why people are so against Emre. Yes, at times he hasn't fulfilled his potential and he does have a habit of slowing things down in the middle of the park, but he has always put in 100% effort, and its a shame I feel he's playing his best football for us.
Also he is seeing out his contract. He signed his contract and now he's seeing it out. Isn't that the honourable thing to do? He committed to a contract and stuck with his word. Coutinho on the other hand signs a contract last year, but wants out, yet he's not getting as much grief.

First time post, as the post regarding Emre's performance really grated on me, as I feel its so uninformed.

35.) 05 Jan 2018 13:22:00
I think it is absolute nonsense that Can hasn't given us a 100% commitment this year. He like every other player has done so on the pitch. Just because they are off their game doesn't mean they aren't trying. We need to get a bit of reality here.
As many who have defended him on here have said he wants assurances of regular first team football and possibly in a position that Klopp feels others can do better so he has chosen to look for an alternative. This is common practise in any business. Indeed I have had to go on 'gardening leave' for a period of time when giving notice to my employee as I was within Senior Management and they felt it would be detrimental for me to continue working for them. This isn't the case with Can unless we were playing Juve. Loan players aren't allowed to play against their employees so no doubt we would leave him out if we drew them.
Some fans on here simply either don't understand or just think as it is Liverpool we can do what we like when we like whilst criticising other clubs or players morals.

36.) 05 Jan 2018 13:48:31
Personally I agree with the above. I would drop Can. I think he has dealt with things in an unprofessional manner, he has let his contract run down and I think that's pretty poor to be honest. He could have just signed a new one so the club could get a few quid for him. If you ask my it's good ridden, I don't rate him, he is a player whom is inconsistent and doesn't turn it on when it really matters, he has scored some big goals but in my opinion he's not really a world beater. As soon as keita comes in he will be out of the team anyway.

37.) 05 Jan 2018 14:03:55
Oxogravy the difference between your place of work and being a professional footballer is that you’re not likely to be subject to injury that would affect your next place of work in the course of carrying out your duties. Can has taken his foot off the pedal and is coasting most games.

38.) 05 Jan 2018 14:12:44
I'll be honest, I'm not sure if losing Can is a big loss or not. At times I think he's great, other times I feel we could do better. I believe (just my opinion) he wouldn't be leaving if Klopp didn't think he could cope without him. I imagine he has an idea of who he will replace him with.

39.) 05 Jan 2018 14:18:29
That's a fair point Swish cleaner, but it is much easier to motivate yourself to make a forward run, than it is to track back and help out your team mates.

It's possibly not even deliberate. Perhaps subconsciously he does care so he isn't concentrating or making defensive effort. If all he has to offer in the last 2 months is a header against Brighton and winning a free kick against Burnley, then I'm still not convinced. Everyone wants to attack. The true measure of how committed a player is, is how much effort they put in to doing the dirty work. Can used to be great at it. He'd help out the defence, head away corners, get stuck into tackles etc. He's not doing that.

People are confusing what I'm saying. I don't want Can dropped because he won't sign a contract. I want him dropped because he's not trying hard enough. His heads been in Turin for 8 weeks at least.

40.) 05 Jan 2018 14:49:44
i am not a great Fan of Emre Can but he is at LFC until the end of the season and should be used where he can be useful not dropped and left to rot, its not like he has been on strike or anything he has tried his best when he is on the pitch, i don't think he has ever been good enough but he has always tried and i wish him good luck at Juve or wherever he goes but we need to use out assets so to drop him completely would never make sense.

41.) 05 Jan 2018 13:44:52
What's the score if Keita, Can or Coutinho were to get a bad injury before joining their new clubs? Is it just tough on the new club and look to the insurance? Could it affect the deal? Bit like forking out for a new car then finding out it's in the garage for 6 months - or worse - a write off.

{Ed002's Note - Then the transfer would be delayed - except for Can.}

42.) 05 Jan 2018 15:04:18
If we judge on contribution alone Henderson Milner and Wijnaldum are ahead of him. On his day he has a worldy in him, he's strong and has a good touch and decent range of passing although I think he is guilty of being caught in possession far too often. I would figure Klopp intelligent enough to rotate him in to the squad just as he has been doing all along. I wish him well. He will be loved there.

43.) 05 Jan 2018 15:58:07
Agree Amerigo, on his day, you can see why there is interest. However, he seems to dwell on the ball a lot and when caught out almost always concedes a foul when chasing back. I think he is easily replaceable so i don't have any qualms with him leaving. All the best to the bloke, seems to have always given it his all.

44.) 05 Jan 2018 16:19:22
I wish him all the best at Juve. But we are essentially stuck with a player for the rest of the season who has nothing invested in how we finish and is clearly more concerned with not picking up any serious injury that might prevent his move. I stand by my comments on his performances in midfield this season, Arsenal simply run past him as if he wasn’t there and he was our worst performer in the other games as he looks like he’s just going through the motions.

45.) 05 Jan 2018 17:10:23
I find it hard to believe that any professional player in this day and age would demand to start every game knowing they could have 50 plus games a season.
Surely it would have to be down to clauses, wages and length of contract offered if negotiations break down.

46.) 05 Jan 2018 22:40:40
Hopefully if anything getting a deal sorted would make things a bit easier for him to focus on playing well for his soon to be former employers and to impress his world cup chances.

47.) 06 Jan 2018 10:07:37
Klopp is not a fan of can, if hendo is fit he starts do can won't get minutes, can't blame the lad for leaving and improving himself. However the loss of the transfer fee is bad. With hendo out for a month and no other cover we need to keep and not cash in now. a class DM should have been bought years ago now. And yet all the names we are chasing again are attackers.

48.) 06 Jan 2018 10:30:03
There seems to be a lot of names I barely recognise (newish? ) On here all saying the same bs.
Drop Can because he wants to/ is leaving? Serious? So should have dropped Coutinho then since the summer, Goretzka should have also been dropped since he is running his contract down but no wait it’s only ours who are doing wrong and if we are buying someone he needs to be match ready and fit right?

Lets tell Wenger to drop 2 of his best in their position also who are running their contract down (Ozil, Sanchez)

Can is IMO our best central midfielder (not including pipco (or popcorn as autocorrect changed it to) ) and dropping him is a dumb idea.

Even if we sign a CM this window i’d want Can and whoever we sign (if good enough) to be starting most games until Keita can take his place.
Dont get me wrong I do like Wini, but 75% of games I don’t even realize he is on the pitch but the remaining 25% he does show some form of quality. Hendo really needs to get back to the way he was before he got injured.

Plus as said already it’s a world cup year, and he is a professional so he will still give his all.

Hi eds. Just wondering if klopp has had any new specs scouted? Or has he taken Specsavers to a chippy in Blackpool? Looking a bit empty up top and am hoping for an imminent signing.

slowdog76

1.) 15 Aug 2021 05:26:48
He's had an eye operation, so you're not going to see the specs anytime soon. Seems his goal celebrations have changed too.

New teeth and new eyes must be part of the new LFC manager policy. Next up he’ll be sneaking off with the club secretary 👀.

3.) 15 Aug 2021 07:23:13
JK, that's not policy but rather fringe benefits of the job. 😉.

4.) 15 Aug 2021 07:47:28
Aray 🤣. Where do I sign up.

5.) 15 Aug 2021 08:02:58
I miss the days when Klopp would go ape after a Liverpool goal, wasn’t it at Norwich where he broke a pair of specs after a late winner?
He broke 2 or 3 pairs inside a couple of weeks. Class.

{Ed001's Note - was that the 5-4?}

6.) 15 Aug 2021 08:08:45
Yeah it was the 5-4 Norwich game. Brilliant moment in the Klopp LFC archive. Was it Lallana who scored or Lallana who knocked his glasses off either way a great memory.

{Ed001's Note - was it not both? That he scored and then jumped into Klopp knocking his glasses off? I was too busy jumping around like a lunatic myself to remember!}

7.) 15 Aug 2021 08:13:39
Yeah, agreed Juicer. Used to be great to watch, and pumped up all watchers, for sure. But the media never liked it and always pointed it out as some "foreign" behaviour totally inappropriate for the "British" game. Not subdued enough. He's brought it down considerably. Shame if you can't show your passion for the game.

8.) 15 Aug 2021 08:38:01
I belive Lallana scored and Kolo Toure almost knocked out Klopp, forget the glasses 😅.

9.) 15 Aug 2021 09:17:16
It was Benteke, who broke his glasses. Klopp even joked it was one of the reason he sold him.

10.) 15 Aug 2021 09:22:09
New teeth and new eyes I hope to god he doesn't go for the boob job.

11.) 15 Aug 2021 11:43:05
Spot on, ArAy1969. The cheek of a manager celebrating a winning goal with his players in one of the craziest games in football history. How dare he?

12.) 15 Aug 2021 12:35:15
Ed001 I’ve literally just watched it back. Still gives me goosebumps. It was indeed Lallana who scored and jumped into Klopp. It showed it from 3 different angles and the last angle of Klopp actually shows him charging out of the dugout celebrating and running towards Lallana. He’s actually waving Lallana to him to celebrate as he’s running. Benteke jumps over the top and it’s actually him who knocks Klopps glasses off with his hand. He def wouldn’t have meant it as he missed the target all season and while going for Klopps glasses he would have probably hit his knee instead.

Not seen anyone mention it, but i thought our supporters were a credit to us last night. Fully encouraging and supporting the kids from start to finish and generally behaving as though it was us that won 5 nil. Brilliant.

slowdog76

1.) 18 Dec 2019 19:33:14
I thought our kids were unlucky to concede the first two goals esp. the second goal of a deflection that looped over Keleher. Why? Cos before they scored the first one, Harvey Elliott had a brilliant chance to score but for the GK making a brilliant save. We score then. who knows? Either way, the kids learned lessons yesterday and that can only help them going forward.

18 Dec 2019 07:15:21
Does anyone know where is good to watch the full match after its finished tonight? Early kick off means im going to miss it live unfortunately.

I find it odd that pundits and fans alike say we were lucky with injuries last season. We went through a patch with much disruption to the back line due to injuries last season, and if i remember correctly this was a major contributing factor to dropping the 10 point lead.

slowdog76

{Ed047's Note - Maybe on the amount of injuries but Gomez was for me a huge loss, he had been immense next to Virgil and it definitely affected your run at that time.

1.) 25 Jul 2019 09:54:21
Wow a new ed. Hi ed047, not seen you before. I totally agree, gomez was brilliant. A few games i watched on my phone, and vvd and gomez both wore blue boots. Sometimes i thought it was vvd making a brilliant tackle or interception but on closer inspection it was gomez! His speed and vigour are the perfect compliment to van djikes cool, calm and collected style. (cheesy quote) "like the silver lady on the rolls royce" doesn't work does it. Does it?

Yeah great little player. Another amazing bargain. What would gomez be worth in todays crazy market. I don't think he is worth any less than 60? God knows, it is mental now. If de ligt is 80mil and maguire is 90mil surely joe is up there too.

{Ed047's Note - Robbie totally agree I just really like him, in the games I watched him he never let anyone get one over on him, he just seems to go under the radar and when I see all the hype about De Ligt I honestly think Gomez has equal or more potential.

2.) 25 Jul 2019 10:17:56
One of his best games was in an england shirt ed047, against brazil. I think the rest of the country really noticed joe then. The way he handled neymar. He played like a 29 year old. Which is unusual in one so young. And that's the other thing. How old is virgil? 28? 29? I think. If joe doesn't spend too much time on the treatment table, i see no reason why he can't get to the very highest level. a lot of defending is physical, of course. But the mental side is probably more important and its intelligence and composure that he has in spades.

Who is your team ed047 mate?

{Ed047's Note - yes mate I remember that one, Van Dijk has just turned 28 and he’s the perfect mentor for Gomez.

I’m a gooner mate. 😩

3.) 25 Jul 2019 10:23:00
We've had a decent run of luck with injuries recently. The last few weeks of the season we were scratching the barrel but got thru some tough away days in the prem and then obviously we done Barcelona without 2/ 3 of our front 3.

4.) 25 Jul 2019 10:40:26
Not being biased but Gomez is miles better than De Ligt.

5.) 25 Jul 2019 10:48:30
Aaaagh. Made some decent signings in recent years. i've admired arsenals football for many years. You'd have to be blind or from tottenham not to i think.

I like the fact that managers don't come and go every other year. The new guy needs time. A few teams (including us i suppose) have overtaken arsenal, but for now arsenal are in transition. he's trying to build a squad. Shame there isn't much to spend (only read that in a rag, no idea if its correct)

How do you guys feel about zaha? Is it going to happen? Do you want it too? he's a good little player, not right bright though and quite selfish with the ball. Not a natural arsenal player imo. But you've changed i guess. And maybe surrounded by better players he may be more inclined to pass.

{Ed047's Note - I take it when you say decent you don’t mean Xhaka and Mustafi. 😂

I’m not a fan of Zaha if I’m honest, doesn’t do enough for me. We’re miles behind now and not sure the owners have what it takes to make that any different.

But hey we all love football so what’s not to like. 😁

6.) 25 Jul 2019 11:22:03
Its all part of the cycle Ed047. I know I speak for many when I say a lot part of the joy of the 6th Champions League for us was due to the previous (many) years of hurt and failure.

This may be a bit of a dark time for Arsenal but it will make the glory all the more sweet in the future that I am sure.

Red Sandman

P. s. How is Mustafi still a footballer? not being funny but I could do a better job than him.

{Ed047's Note - RS I’ve literally no idea how Mustafi is still a footballer, let alone playing in the Premier League. 🙄

It is always cycles mate, ours currently has flat tyres, no brakes and some dodgy gears but it’s repairable. I hope!

Had the pleasure of watching the likes of Hughes, Dalgliesh, Hansen, Souness, Clemence, Tommy Smith, Keegan, Fowler, Rush, Lawrenson, etc in their pomp, your current side is up there with those others.

7.) 25 Jul 2019 12:39:04
You need to spend big, but your owners won't as they like to make a profit, good as a business point, but to win need backing, and can't see that happening for many years, wenger done amazing for you lot with the budget he had year after ywar.

{Ed047's Note - spot on for me mate, they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk.

We have bought big but just not enough together, we had Özil and Sanchez and we needed an Allison and Van Dijk, we got Mustafi and an ageing Petr Cech.

Now we have Leno, Torreira, Lacazette and Aubameyang but are again failing to finish off the team. 🤷‍♂️

You’re now in the position where you can just add great players to keep you up there.

8.) 25 Jul 2019 12:56:46
Had conversations with my mates over the summer regarding Gomez, they were saying we should in for De Ligt, he’s world class and could be around for ages etc etc. I just could t grasp it, Gomez was outstanding before his injury, I think we’d only let in about 10 goals before it, he’s young, he’s proven in the premier league, he’s quick as anything, he’s powerful. I honestly can’t believe people would parachute a £70m equivalent on to replace him. Had Gomez stayed fit and helped marshal us to the champs league surely he’d have been more widely considered in the same way. I say this as someone who doesn’t often get too caught up in the hype of our own young players. Gomez is absolutely class as far as I am concerned.
WE were lucky that the front 3 were pretty much fit all year and that VVD and Robertson were ok too.

{Ed001's Note - personally, and this is not bias talking I hope, but I think Gomez is light years ahead of De Ligt as a defender. De Ligt is better on the ball but in every other area of the game Gomez is at least his equal, in most he is much better. In fact it is only aerial ability that I can think of that De Ligt matches Gomez.}

9.) 25 Jul 2019 14:30:22
I haven't seen de ligt play that much. But have seen him floundering. Joe is 2 years older than him i think, maybe 3. but he plays with the head of a 29 year old. I think that's the big difference.

Yeah ed047, not mustafi, but i do like lacazette, aubameyang the young lad tioriea (sorry i can't spell his name) the CM. Cech ain't bad. It seems that since the new stadium arsenal have had a wee slide. Is that an issue? Or just a coincidence,?

I like ed047, he's polite and friendly. Can you take ed025 out for a drink, have a word?
Thanks for covering man. And honestly, good luck. I can appreciate teams who want to play foorball, as opposed to the mourinio defencive style. I hope you make top 4, and i think you have a chance. Chelsea have a young, inexperienced manager, a transfer ban. And a squad in which ross barkely can get regular games. Utd are there for the taking. Ole's house of cards will come down on him this season. Had a little rise for a few games and then slipped back into average.
I think if spurs lose Alderwierald and Erikson then that squad could start to unravel. But they are good, still beatable. I think tc.

{Ed047's Note - you definitely have a gem in Gomez mate, you’re welcome and ed025 is a gent Robbie.

I’ve got fingers crossed for top 4 but not holding my breath.

10.) 25 Jul 2019 14:44:50
Oh i love ed025, funny dude. Good at winding us lot up. He does like his fishing.

{Ed047's Note - haha, nice one mate 👍🏼

11.) 25 Jul 2019 13:16:47
Yea you now got a good attacking front, but your defence is letting you down, that's why can't understand they seem to be going for attacking minded players, when you are crying out for a top class cb, we was like that till we brought vvd and allison.

{Ed047's Note - I know mate, it’s beyond frustrating. We’ve just signed Saliba but he’s for next year.

12.) 25 Jul 2019 18:40:50
Spot on, Ed01 regarding De Ligt and Gomez. IMO, Gomez is miles ahead of De Ligt in terms of overall ability, it is not even funny. Gomez is faster, more powerful, enuff on the ball, a great passer out of the back and tho he is not the best aerially, he is no slouch either. De Ligt is super-overrated and if both can stay fit and play to their maximum ability, I believe Gomez will be the better CB. Just my opinion.

13.) 25 Jul 2019 20:28:32
I mentioned this yesterday Slowdog. The fact we had Milner or Henderson at right back for a month is completely forgotten too. Or that we had to play the final run in without Salah and Firmino. Or that Ox, Lallana and Keita basically missed the entire season leaving us with no senior attacking midfielders. Brewster also missed the entire season straight after being promoted to the first team.

It's a complete myth we were lucky with injuries. We only narrowly went out the FA cup with a back 4 of Camacho, Hoever, Fabinho and Moreno because they were the only defenders fit for the game after Lovren did his hamstring 2 minutes in. We were massively unlucky with injuries. What are the odds on Gomez breaking his leg, Matip getting an ankle infection, Virgil having a thigh strain, Lovren pulling a hamstring all at once, with our try choice Nat Phillips also being injured. It was worse than any other team had it by a distance. I think people are forgetting Firmino was injured on 3 separate occasions, and that Salah missed the biggest game of our season (which we still won 4-0 by the way) .

Our squad is fantastic. I'd have replaced Lallana with a more reliable option personally but if Klopp is happy, so be it. We'll likely never have a season so unfortunate with injuries again. I've never seen one as bad for Liverpool in my lifetime. I think Mane, Fabinho and Wijnaldum were the only senior outfield players who were available for every game. They were only ever rested as far as I remember.

14.) 25 Jul 2019 20:37:04
Quite often when a successful manager takes over a team they have a rough first season. I know we kinda did. I think its a sign of huge change at a club. I hope it goes well for the gunners. I think it will. For the last couple of seasons i've been waiting for arsenal to pop up. Arsenal have a few weaker areas and it may take another season or so to build the team he wants. Its a shame he doesn't have a big budget. But this window is messed up. The andy robertson, 8mil signings don't seem to be out there. Average players are now valued at 30mil. But may as well plant a tree than have mustafi playing. I would be suring up the defence.

Tbf, with how prices are these days that is probably within the limits of what you would expect to pay for a back up. Not that i think we should necessarily. Just that its not beyond the realms of possibility just based on the price alone.

Ignoring the fact that all fees these days are exorbitant, is paying so much for a keeper really surprising. We have all said a top keeper would have put us considerably closer to city, that utd would be nowehere without de gea. Paying large fees for such an important position shouldn't be that much of a shock.
