ED2 any views on Rafael leao. is Liverpool looking to sign him. Thanks.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note There is a chance he will move this summer but not to Liverpool.}

1.) 04 Apr 2024 14:29:48
We don't need any more left sided forwards.

28 Mar 2024 04:16:32
ED2.sorry if you have answered it already but which positions Liverpool will be looking to strengthen in summer. Thanks.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - A GK, perhaps 2, perhaps a LB, a CB, a versatile DM/CM, a RW and perhaps a versatile F depending on departures.}

1.) 28 Mar 2024 10:11:11
Hi Mr Ed002

Are there any goalkeepers we are tracking or you think would be a good option for the number 2/ 3? Assuming Allison is staying :)

Perhaps Vitezslav Jaros can replace Caoimhin Kelleher, if he leaves.

Also, I saw mention of Maximilian Beier a while ago. Looks like a good player. Is he on the list for the versatile forward?

Much thanks as ever!

{Ed002's Note - The situation with the goalkeepers is perhaps something like this:
Marcelo Pitaluga (G) Needs to consider his future or bide his time at Liverpool.
Caoimhín Kelleher (G) Decision time for the player and Wolves may try to tempt him after some scouting. Celtic have spoken with his representative.
Vitezslav Jaros (G) Having a good loan at Sturm Graz and perhaps an option to take over as number two but he may want more game time.
Adrian (G) Out of contract in the summer and will depart.

Maximilian Beier (S/F) Opted for a contract extension at Hoffenheim over a move to Brentford after a loan at Hannover. Seen as a potential Hlozek replacement for Bayer Leverkusen or a Sesko Replacement for RBL. Everton, Liverpool and Luton have sent scouts to watch the player. May be available in the summer.

2.) 28 Mar 2024 11:21:46
I can't believe there are not more of the 'top tier' clubs sniffing around Kelleher. In Alissons absence, he has been excellent and whilst certainly not the best in the world, he would be an excellent No 1 for most top clubs.

3.) 28 Mar 2024 11:23:55
Potentially a lot more activity than we expect it seems, especially given the team is doing well and the kids are doing a brilliant job of providing quality depth. Of those positions Ed mentions, a Matip replacement has to be the priority.

We have essentially replaced Thiago already with MacAllister imo. Endo is doing remarkably well and the question there is whether he can physically deliver another season to give Bajcetic time to build himself up for the rigours of the Premier League.

The rest depends on the players who have decisions to make ie Kelleher, Tsimikas, Salah (yikes) and Diaz (if the constant rumours are anything to go by) .

Ugh, a summer window I am the least excited by regardless of the incomings because it will be without a certain German fella at the helm. Not ready!

4.) 28 Mar 2024 13:39:56
Maybe kelleher doesn’t want to leave so that’s why no one trying for him?

5.) 28 Mar 2024 14:10:28
Agree with Stuie. Kelleher has taken a step up this year and I think LFC would be foolish to let him move on. Alisson is obviously incredible and one of the best, but will be 32 next year and has had a couple longer stretches being out with injury in recent years. If LFC didn't have Kelleher, they would likely be looking for someone like Kelleher to support Alisson. I guess my concern is that the timing isn't right by about a year or two. Kelleher obviously wants to be first choice somewhere right now and his minutes at LFC are dependent on Alisson's health. I don't really see a good situation where they could share minutes because I think that isn't great for either keeper's form. Form is dependent on regular minutes. It will be interesting to see how/ if this develops more.

6.) 28 Mar 2024 14:59:50
If Kelleher is happy to stay then we are golden.

Alternatively, if he leaves and Pitaluga continues to live up to the earlier hype about him, I would move him to No2 behind Alisson and look to an experienced goalkeeper in the Adrian mould to come in as No2/ 3 (when Pitaluga is ready for No2 he takes that spot) .

Ed002, is Ron Robert Zieler a possibility still? I know he was mooted last year when Kelleher may have left, and he has the advantage of being HG given the time he spent at Man Utd in his early years.

{Ed002's Note - Kelleher is at a decision point - move and play or stay on the bench at Liverpool. Marcelo Pitaluga needs to consider his future or bide his time at Liverpool. Struggling in the League of Ireland.

Ron Robert Zieler (G) 35 and out of contract in the summer - Home Grown is likely now the only advantage for English sides.}

7.) 28 Mar 2024 15:23:08
I remember when Ron Robert Zieler was a supposed “wonder kid”. Gosh this makes me feel old.

8.) 28 Mar 2024 15:29:05
I think somewhere like Wolves (or that level) would be perfect for Kelleher.
A top tier club might just be out of reach for him considering he was only 2nd choice here and would probably be seen as slightly under tested to be number 1 at another top club. He’s stepped up when needed and we rate him but it’s still a bit of a risk id say.
It would be nice if he does well at wolves or somewhere for a season or two before going to a top tier club to be number 1, maybe even back here? Who knows.
I do think he needs to move on though for his career.

9.) 28 Mar 2024 16:05:59
Ed, is there no possibility of the club doing a long term loan, similar to what happened with Courtois? It gets him the first choice minutes and also allows time for the changeover when alisson moves on or retires.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t see that being considered at all.}

10.) 28 Mar 2024 16:27:24
What about Harvey Davies Ed002? Seems to be doing alright at Crewe.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool.}

11.) 28 Mar 2024 17:11:32
I thought we might go for Grabara since hed be home grown and club developed but he's moving to Wolfsburg. Would that potentially make Casteels available? Backup keeper probably the hardest position to convince someone half decent to sign as.

{Ed002's Note - Tge club has no interest in all of these random players.}

12.) 28 Mar 2024 20:58:57
The top tier clubs already have top keepers.

13.) 29 Mar 2024 12:49:55
@Faith - all except Everton ……….

14.) 29 Mar 2024 13:08:47
Marcelo Pitaluga is having a mare in the league of ireland for St Pats with some high profile errors. I think he's been at fault for 3 or 4 goals in as many games.

23 Mar 2024 04:54:06
ED2 there is news circulating that Real Madrid is looking to sign Trent. How true is this and what is the contract situation at Liverpool. Thanks.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB/RWB/RM) Seen by Real Madrid as an othing to Reece James. May offer an exchange for Rodrygo Goes. I am not aware of a new contract being offered just yet but it will likely be on the to do list of Edwards.}

1.) 23 Mar 2024 15:13:35
He could definitely go as Bellinghams there. I hope we don't go stupid on wages for him. If mardrid offer a huge amount and he wants the move, then so be it.

2.) 23 Mar 2024 15:51:47
Didn't Trent sign a new contract a short while back?

3.) 23 Mar 2024 16:54:33
Depends entirely on Trent's position for me (and I suspect for him as well) . If the club see him as a full back I reckon he'll want to go as he sees himself as a midfielder. In this instance I would sell him. If we play him as the right sided CM I think he's priceless and I think that's want he's going to want as well to sign a new deal. Really want this to happen. Been saying the same thing for nearly 5 years.

4.) 23 Mar 2024 18:58:24
The thumbs up are amazing Mizer.

5.) 24 Mar 2024 05:24:59
I was over in Liverpool last August and mentioned on here last September that I’d been told by a relative who knows a couple of people ‘associated with the club’ that TAA was learning Spanish. The person who told me seemed to believe that what he was saying was true.

6.) 24 Mar 2024 08:29:27
TAA touted as generation Talent but unfortunately at wrong timing as Liverpool academy is producing a generation of generational talents.

7.) 24 Mar 2024 09:36:09
I can see TAA fitting in well at Real Madrid and he's better than Dani Carvajal. He'd be playing with the likes of Mbappe, Valverde, Tchouaméni, Vinicius Júnior, Bellingham, Camavinga, Endrick, Alphonso Davies. He'd play under Ancelotti for a couple of seasons and then maybe reunite with Klopp.

8.) 24 Mar 2024 09:44:48
Ultimately if Madrid want him and he wants to go, then it’s not the end of the world, particularly if they’d be prepared to offer Rodrygo in part exchange. Bradley has shown he’s more than capable at right back so it’s not like we’d be left short.

9.) 24 Mar 2024 11:16:19
Trent will sign a new long term contract before the start of next season. He wants to stay, absolutely no interest in joining RM.

10.) 24 Mar 2024 11:43:46
Trents a lifer, great having Bradley coming through but this is TAA were talking about. With a year left Madrid are only sniffing around with the hope they could unsettle him and get him on the cheap.

11.) 24 Mar 2024 14:27:56
Just a theoretical question.

If Trent stays and is moved to midfield who is he replacing in people’s strongest 3 and if he stays at Right back what does that mean for Bradley moving forward?

Either way it’s good problems to have for whoever the new manager is.

12.) 24 Mar 2024 15:37:51
Doesn't Alonso play with three at the back? If so then TAA isn't replacing anyone in midfield.

{Ed001's Note - he has played 4 at the back as well.}

13.) 24 Mar 2024 18:09:36
You really have to laugh concerning trent. No player is predictable. If Madrid put in a huge offer, the club will listen to it and so will trent. I'd put money on trent making the move too. Probably double the wages and seeing himself as a superstar in sunny Spain is highly attractive.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely MIZER..

14.) 24 Mar 2024 19:06:24
The thought of losing Trent going into the season was unthinkable. Now not so much with the emergence of Bradley. If the money is right and he wants the move, it's good for both parties then good luck to the lad. Be hard to turn down playing with those players in THAT stadium and living in the sun. But I'll be ecstatic if he extends w us. Win-win.

15.) 24 Mar 2024 19:10:36
Ed025, i find a lot of fans soo naive because he's a "Liverpool lad". His demeanor changed long ago and he's an arrogance to him. I don't care what he does behind the scenes or the PR stuff. Either Liverpool will offer stupid wages and he'll show his "loyalty" or if his contract isn't sorted straight away and Madrid are knocking with a serious offer, he's gone. His best mate and arguably now the most famous footballer in the world is in mardrid in Bellingham and I'm sure all that would suit him. I could care less if he goes. I support players that want to be here and the club is far bigger than anyone that always ends up leaving.

{Ed025's Note - your spot on MIZER, i have always said that if a player is not fully committed to the club then move them on, its very naive to think that a player was going to stay because hes a local lad mate...it just doesn,t work like that..its all about the money..

16.) 24 Mar 2024 19:13:22
I’ve seen it rain in Madrid @Mizer.

17.) 25 Mar 2024 00:34:43
‘No player is bigger than the club’ is often touted and completely true, but to compete at the very top of the game you need players that can do the extraordinary.

Trent is one of those game changers (like Salah and VVD) and is able to create chances with his passes that very few others can even see, let alone deliver.

We let him go at our peril, because replacing him with another game changer at the highest level would not be cheap or easy.

18.) 25 Mar 2024 09:01:49
Unless they come through our Academy system @SG.

19.) 25 Mar 2024 19:20:03
the 'no player is bigger than the club' line gets touted out when someone doesn't like a player.

The generation of generational talents coming out of the academy are highly unlikely to altogether deliver the production that Trent did at the same age.

I really think people are so un-loyal to our own players we forget what we actually have.

{Ed025's Note - loyalty is a two way street though faith..

20.) 26 Mar 2024 10:15:03
25 - got it but you’re not saying Trent hasn’t been loyal are you? I’m assuming you’re saying that as a general statement and I’m sure you’ll understand the nuance of what I’m saying here.

Here we have a Liverpool kid, risen through the academy, turned into a superstar, now has a few defensive lapses and suddenly there are fans ready to fling him off for next new model off the conveyor belt. That kind of “fan loyalty” is gross to me and imo is where the “loyalty goes two ways ends.

{Ed025's Note - it was a generalization faith of course, i dont know about "superstar" but hes certainly a talented player who could become one, i get what you mean about fan loyalty though mate and was dismayed what a couple on here were saying about Darwin after the United game, im afraid its the symptom of the microwave generation these days..

21.) 27 Mar 2024 10:21:13
25 - and the Gakpo hate after the Manu game too. Genuinely embarrassed to read some of the comments from our fans. For me, fans job is to be loyal until a player gives a reason otherwise. And by reason, I don’t mean missing a goal or a tackle I mean something like a player becomes toxic, sits out etc etc players make mistakes and surely our job is to support them to do better. Like what’s the point wasting energy bagging on our own players lol not like we can just replace them every weekend hahahaha.

14 Mar 2024 15:24:35
ED2. posting 2nd time. just wanted your opinion who according to you will be worthy replacement for Klopp.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - Julian Nagelsmann (C) perhaps.}

1.) 14 Mar 2024 16:55:13
Maybe technically okay for the job but Nagelsmann maybe not suited temperamentally…. don’t know if LFC fans would take to him. Tough to come in after Klopp.

If we can’t get Xabi I wouldn’t mind if Pep had a go…. My thinking there would be that if it was a success then great and if not Klopp might come back after a year off recharging his batteries.

2.) 14 Mar 2024 18:40:37
Why keep asking the same questions?

3.) 15 Mar 2024 01:24:35
If we can’t get Alonso it’s Amorim for me. Next best thing. As for Nagelsmann is a big no for me and probably most other Liverpool fans. I trust Edwards to land either one of the two I mentioned.

4.) 15 Mar 2024 07:09:15
Nagelsmann was unfairly fired by Bayern. His style of play is very good and unpredictable against park bus team. His Leipzig team easily defeated Athletico Madrid in past.

5.) 15 Mar 2024 07:35:52
Few things to think about here. Alonso may feel his chance will come around again when he has more experience under his belt.

There is also the poison chalice aspect, some managers may think they would prefer to be the manager after the next manager.

JN would be a good fit all round I think. Similar style of play, young and dynamic.

6.) 15 Mar 2024 08:03:11
The Liverpool jobs not a bus andy. Pass up the chance to get onboard now and it may never come around again. Some other new coach could be flavour of the month by then.

7.) 15 Mar 2024 08:07:41
Rather have jn than pep, we need to keep an open mind as much as people think alonso is nailed on he isn’t . would trust ed2 more than most.

8.) 15 Mar 2024 08:21:31
Do you think Pep would leave City? ?.

9.) 15 Mar 2024 08:43:27
I would give it to pep for a year, now ME is back let’s just let things organically progress, my fear is any new manager may bring wholesale changes rather than nurture what we have. Pep would keep things pretty similar I reckon, what do you lads think?

10.) 15 Mar 2024 12:01:15
The same pep that people wanted out of the club not so long ago for having to much influence on the team? I've watched sporting a few times and I'm not convinced by amorim if we couldn't get alonso id rather Michel from girona or naaglesmann, just my opinion though ;)

{Ed002's Note - You can forget Michel.}

11.) 15 Mar 2024 14:07:44
We should look at Simone Inzaghi.

{Ed002's Note - Why? Would he be a good fit? Knows the English game well?}

12.) 15 Mar 2024 14:48:53
I have no idea why people would want Amorim over Nagelsmann. Nagelsmann is far more tested. Portuguese league is too unreliable a way to determine whether a manager is good enough for LFC.

13.) 15 Mar 2024 15:44:09
Is Michel lined up for another job ed? Surely fsg would've considered him with the job he's doing at girona.

{Ed002's Note - He is not available and not moving to Liverpool.}

14.) 15 Mar 2024 18:02:51
Still don’t get why anyone would want Nagelsmann after he made it absolutely clear he holds us as a club in nothing but contempt. He really should not be in any consideration for the job after what he said.

15.) 15 Mar 2024 18:19:45
Klopp has had the weight of half a city on his shoulders. Many would buckle under that pressure.
I imagine he will want a job with with less pressure next time around, like Real, where the team wins and wins, regardless. He would not be idolised in Real in the same way.

16.) 15 Mar 2024 18:50:38
@TB2, I think it’s some weird sort of therapy.

17.) 15 Mar 2024 19:44:28
I have heard a whisper that Alonso's camp have said he is very, very interested in the Liverpool job.

Just a whisper, could have been the cat.

18.) 15 Mar 2024 19:45:20
Is this a wind up Bastion?

19.) 15 Mar 2024 23:20:16
To all the Nagelsmann fans. Have a look into his antics, for lack of a better word from his time at Bayern. I’ll leave it there.

20.) 16 Mar 2024 01:07:08
Ed2 - do you know why nagelsman is getting a bit of a bad rep?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any bad reputation.}

21.) 16 Mar 2024 11:13:42
I suppose the ‘bad reputation’ has got to do with his personal life?

Not to sure if that’s a factor with the Liverpool fans.

Footballing wise, think he’s got a very good reputation, still developing his style fully but am still young and already one of the better managers amongst the next generation. Not sure he’s at the level of Klopp though, not yet at least.

{Ed001's Note - no, it is to do with a struggle to cope with egos and the way he gave exclusive intimate access to the players to his journalist gf, of a type that none of them were comfortable with. It was considered by many to be intrusive. She was pretty much there like she was on the coaching staff.

22.) 16 Mar 2024 11:34:16
This current version of Nagelsmann is giving me Brendan Rodgers vibes. Lairy jackets, skateboards and journo girlfriends. It trigggers memories of Brendan's summer glow up and new mistress.

Difficult to look past Alonso, with Amorim as the second choice. De Zerbi and Nagelsmann behind those two.

23.) 16 Mar 2024 15:57:07
thanks ed 01
oh whao, didn't know that
guess there was more to his sacking than I was aware.

24.) 18 Mar 2024 00:57:09
I actually agree with looking at inzaghi. Inter play great football, very positive and he's quite a galvanizing character.

If the reason against is 'doesnt know the English game' you'd be surprised at how much he loves the premier league and respects the way the game is played here, he's also a very big Liverpool fan too.

08 Mar 2024 17:24:58
ED2 - u stated in previous post that Alonso could end up at Bayern. has there been any discussion and is it in advanced stage.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - Bayern have spoken with Bayer Leverkusen. I don’t know what you mean by “advanced”.}

1.) 08 Mar 2024 21:14:55
Hi Ed002, it means 1 step before personal terms are discussed.

{Ed002's Note - I had no idea about that - then the answer is no.}

2.) 09 Mar 2024 09:42:07
Actually “advanced talks” is more like when you see someone at a bar chatting some one up and just about to ask for their number…. Hopefully alonso is giving them a fake one. Reliable source tells me Mullet is acting as wing man.

3.) 09 Mar 2024 15:14:42
Who do you think we will End up with manager wise eds?

{Ed002's Note - I don't think anything has changed sugnificantly since I last answere this. Alonso will be first choice bu Bayern Munich should have the edge. Ruben Amorim may offer an option but will be miffed as being down the list. Nagelsmann is talented and perhaps should not be discounted for the Liverpool job. May be a shrewd choice for Liverpool and will have the support of Klopp but another side is considering him already. Edwards could be asked to see if Lijnders will change his mind - but he too is in talks over another job.}

4.) 09 Mar 2024 21:27:08
I just can’t see Alonso going to Bayern. That would just be too much of a spit in Leverkusen’s face in my opinion.

I’m not saying he should choose Liverpool instead but to win the league with Leverkusen and then ditch them for Bayern would destroy any legacy he has at Leverkusen and I just can’t see him doing that.

5.) 09 Mar 2024 21:58:40
Alonso might think that it could be too soon to follow in Klopp’s daunting footsteps and risk his growing reputation - he might see Bayern as a more natural stepping stone as he gains experience.

6.) 09 Mar 2024 22:43:43
That argument doesn’t stack up Wallace. He’d be taking over an ageing Bayern team in need of overhaul and under pressure to win the league every season and go deep in the champions league too.

At Liverpool he’s taking over a young, talented squad that might need some tweaks here and there and will be given time because he’s following Klopp so he won’t be expected to win everything straight away.

The German media have twisted it to suggest he’d be under more pressure at Liverpool but the opposite is true.

7.) 09 Mar 2024 23:46:52
Are Bayern aging? What do they have like neuer, muller and Kane over 30? Any issues they have is not age related.

8.) 10 Mar 2024 08:32:30
I know they’re professionals and moving is part of the job but one factor I haven’t seen mentioned if Xabi’s family. Maybe staying in Germany is more appealing than a move back to merseyside.

{Ed001's Note - his kids are Liverpool fans and his missus loved it in Liverpool, that's why they come back so often.}

9.) 10 Mar 2024 08:58:47
If It is true that he wants to join Bayern over Liverpool then he is obviously not the man for us. I refuse to believe this though as only a mad man would turn down Liverpool FC.

10.) 10 Mar 2024 19:53:29
There’s a tendency to imagine what we - as fans - would want to do and then imagining that Alonso will feel the same way. Sadly the world doesn’t work like that, no matter how much we wish it did.

As I said a while back, the best managers we’ve had in my lifetime are the ones who ‘get’ Liverpool. I think Xabi my be someone who does and I sincerely hope he is offered and takes the job. BUT, if he does take the job I really hope it’s because he wants to be here, and not just because it’s a well paid job, if that makes sense.

11.) 10 Mar 2024 21:06:42
@Beckers pecker, i disagree alonso for Liverpool is "he’s taking over a young, talented squad"

This squad in Liverpool doesn't play Alonso's system, it is perfect for playing Kloppss style. So alonso will have a hard time getting rid of players who don't suit his style and acquire players who does. It will be 1 transition year. This is base on statistics shown by Carragher. Liverpool play mix of long, short passes but Leverkusen is almost totally short passess more akeen to City style.

12.) 11 Mar 2024 06:31:28
Question for ed01, ed02 said above Edwards might be asked if he could change Linders mind. If we don't get Alonso, do you think he would be a good option, for continuity if nothing else?
I have always been dead set against him and blamed him entirely for the inverted system which I put down to our dodgy form last year. That said I have to admit we have been playing well recently? Maybe we are getting used to it and he wouldn't be all that bad, or maybe I'm just going mad.

{Ed001's Note - no, Lijnders is fine as a coach, he works really well with Klopp, but he is not a manager. He has Allardyce-like delusions of grandeur telling numerous media outlets about things at the training ground and making sure it is all his idea and that he did it. That is not what you need from a manager. A manager has to be about the team, like Klopp who always talks about we, not I. Lijnders is an I not a we man. It would be a huge mistake. It would be a Souness-like error.

We need someone who understands that it is about we not I. That is why it worked when it was handed over to Paisley, not just because he was tactically astute, but because he didn't want the credit for himself. Win, lose or draw, Paisley always talked about us or we. Lijnders needs to make his way for himself and lose that part of his make-up. I am sure it is just about being desperate to prove himself so he is wanting everyone to know what he gives to the group but he should just let the results talk for themselves. Klopp would have given him credit in interviews anyway, he lets him do the cup games for example, and the players will talk and a coach's reputation quickly travels between clubs due to that.

If you are not about us and we, the players will turn on you when there is a bad patch as they do not feel you are with them. Mark Hughes found that out whenever there was a bad run his teams would fall apart because he would give lip service to us and we but him and his staff would travel to matches separately from the players, so they felt like he wasn't with them. It is what Klopp has done better than anyone, why they run through brick walls for him and give everything on the pitch for him, he makes them feel that everyone is in it together. That is the key to success at Liverpool. We, the owners, the fans, the players, the back room staff, the tea ladies, the catering staff, stewards, everyone connected with the club are one team and Klopp brought that back and it has brought him success out of all proportion to the money he had to spend in comparison to City.}

13.) 11 Mar 2024 08:22:55
Leek
Are you telling me footballers are so thick, they can't adapt their style of play? What happens when they move to a new team? What happens when a new manager comes in? Do they always go to the ones that play their particular style of football? Do they as a team, tell the new manager they can't play possession football, or long balls, or counter-attacking because the previous manager has ingrained in them so much, that that is the only way they can play?

No, they don't do they.

It's obvious you know very little about how to play the game. Some of your comments are ridiculous and border on trolling, for the sake of being contentious.

14.) 11 Mar 2024 09:22:43
The current squad have adopted the inverted full back strategy and, going a bit further back (and again this season) the press. Perhaps part of the profile that the club look for is adaptability.

15.) 11 Mar 2024 15:19:40
@coolerthanfonz, if players can adoat so well, pray tell me why Klopp need to clear out at least half the team built by Brendan Roger and need to bring in the players Klopp needed to play gegenpressing and heavy metal. Playeds have specialised skill, u don't ask VVd to play striker because he can adapt or Drawin nunez play GK simply because he can adapt.

I hereby rest my case.

16.) 12 Mar 2024 05:30:12
@Lee, Klopp brought in players because they were better than the ones we had. That doesn’t mean that the players we released / sold couldn’t adapt but it did mean the players that came in were better at adapting.

It also seems that you are confusing changing positions (VVD moving from CB to Attacker, for instance) with a team adapting a different style of play, which is an almost entirely different thing. You may need to revisit your case.

17.) 13 Mar 2024 16:04:11
CoolerThanTheFonz I agree with Leak, History shows this to be correct I will just pick the obvious example but many more can be put forward if you require? .

Guardiola rebuilds all of the teams he has ever managed. this is because the players already at the club can't play his system. the current liverpool squad is build for Klopp's style which is quite different from Alonso style.

I personally think it would be a disaster Liverpool need a similar style of manager to klopp otherwise another rebuild would be on the cards. It seems stupid to me to build a squad that plays klopp's style and replace him with someone with a completely different style. Players join new clubs but the clubs signing them mostly look for players that fit the managers style and the clubs style of play.

Yes players can be trained but they were never trained to play possession football like Alonso or Guardiola teams, they come from clubs and managers who all play the same or similar to Klopp and yes some of the players probably won't be able to be as good playing a different way to the the way they were scouted and the reasons why they were signed. Some players would make it no doubt but most of Klopps signings are not technically gifted and a possession based manager wouldn't look at these players when they are looking for new players, they are a mix of work horses and ability on the break which is completely different profiles for players required to play an Alonso system.

ED1. looking at last the performances in last few games I have following comments and queries for you

1. How is it that our defense is so open. Only year I remember our defense was perfect was the year we won the league. In last few years defense has been really poor and there seems to be ne effort in training to correct this thing. Is it lack of focus towards defense or plainly down to players. As they say defense win you cups and it explains why we won just 1 league in these many years.

2. In past decade I have not seen a top team which is so poor in finishing. I don't have the data but I can safely assume Liverpool might be in top 3 in terms of shot but bottom in terms of conversion. Again is it down to lack of training or simply down to out offensive players.

3. Lastly on using data while selecting players. While I support that approach but I truly believe selection of players should not be based on this approach singularly. It looks are we are selecting players who have good all round game but they are not masters of their trades. Our offensive players are excellent when measured in terms of all round qualities but when it comes to finishing they might not be in top 5 players in the league (when measured in terms of goal conversion) .

Happy to hear your views and happy to be corrected.

Praveen.

praveenlfc

{Ed001's Note - 1. I think the constant rotation of centre-backs is a big part of the problem but added to that is that we play a high risk game of leaving defenders one on one with attackers. That allows us to put more pressure on the opposition higher up the pitch. This season in particular, and to a smaller degree last season, we have also suffered due to our tactical approach meaning the full-backs are not pushing back the opposing widemen as they are drifting inside so much.

2. I don't know, if you actually watch other teams, they all seem to miss a lot of chances, I think the problem is the way we play. We have no width so the opposition can crowd their own box and stay compact, so we are working in tight spaces and snatching at chances. No one is being dragged out to deal with our wide players, so it allows them to keep everyone in the way.

3. Players are also scouted.}

1.) 12 Apr 2024 14:07:18
We are also guilty of “overplaying” as in, trying to be too intricate in the final stages which leads to poor decisions and poor execution being made in the final third.

We got to go back to being a bit more direct and have our FB’s start whipping crosses in again as we hit Darwin and Diaz who are lethal in the air. The way we play now dies nor allow for this to happen so their quality in the air is being wasted, imo.

2.) 12 Apr 2024 14:29:46
Reading the above, I accept that we have issues, but for gawd sake, we are top of the league. If you didn't understand football and you read through the posts and Ed's replies you would think we were about to get relegated. Like I say, there are things that need fixing and last night was as poor as I've seen us for a long, long time and I had the misfortune of being there, but things aren't beyond fixing.

3.) 12 Apr 2024 16:12:13
Rome1977!, I propose you read this thread a second (or even third read, if required) cos NOT single soul so far has acted or reacted the way you are describing in your post.

4.) 12 Apr 2024 16:52:40
OliRed, I think you may be right, mate. I suppose I was reacting to other posts and used this thread as a means of replying. I read the chat on the way back from the game, last night, and youd have thought we had been relegated to the Conference. There are also other negative posts, which people are entitled to. But, like I say, we are still top and whatever is wrong can, and I'm sure will, be fixed.

5.) 12 Apr 2024 18:17:07
Ah okay then, Rome. I see it what you’re saying now. For sure, people are allowed to be negative after arguably the worst perf since the drubbing at Snfurkd by RM last season and at least on that one, we were crap all of last season so there’s a valid reason.

Last night, we shipped the bed and nobody knows why Klopp made the lineup he made and the tactics he deployed and that’s even more annoying. As for the “Throw the baby with the bath water out” brigade, i stopped caring about such rhetoric years ago.

ED1 - just a query - how come we have much higher wage bill than Arsenal and Manchester United. It is quite surprising. While I agree Arsenal will be lower but difference is quite significant.

praveenlfc

{Ed001's Note - the accounts released are not for this season mate. They include highly paid players like Henderson, Firmino and Fabinho that are no longer with us. Unless I have misread the accounts I saw online. The incoming were on lower wages and Arsenal's will have increased with the signing of Rice and Havertz, so it should be closer when applied to this season.}

1.) 05 Mar 2024 17:08:20
Where is best place to get info on wage bill? Everything I have googled / seen has both above us? But also can’t seem to find accurate source or least one that know is reputable.

2.) 06 Mar 2024 05:11:13
MightyMosive, Swiss Ramble is a good and reputable source for football finances releated info.

3.) 06 Mar 2024 05:31:54
There is this website that Ed001 has mentioned before. Something with the word "Swiss" in it, I don't remember it all now.

{Ed001's Note - Swiss Ramble as raviance said. It is the only one I know of. Not sure if he still has a website or just uses twatter or what though now, but he is the best out there.}

13 Jun 2022 04:11:37
ED1.can we please have your opinion on Nunez.

praveenlfc

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen enough to have one sorry praveen.}

1.) 13 Jun 2022 06:41:31
Diaz, Salah, Nunez. Its enough to make me cream meself. I think Nunez is a beast of a player and that if gets enough games he'll score more than Haaland.

2.) 13 Jun 2022 08:02:53
Just thinking, how important was that last second headed goal by Alisson, worth about £100m?
I can remember contemplating replacing the front 3 when it was looking like we wouldn’t qualify for CL and funds were tight at the time.

3.) 13 Jun 2022 08:11:18
Front 3 had nothing to do with it! We had Zero defenders available and had to play our midfielders in defence so the team was completely unbalanced and we didn't create half the chances we usually do.

4.) 13 Jun 2022 11:08:29
What? I was talking about the eventual rebuild when it was looking like we were going to miss CL football and the finances that goes with it.
I remember saying at the time that replacing Salah, Mane and Bobby would not be cheap and that CL was a must.
Transfer prices have absolutely shot up since those 3 were first signed.

5.) 13 Jun 2022 11:26:14
I guess i misunderstood what you were trying to say. But yeah doubt we would have sold anyone.

6.) 13 Jun 2022 12:45:21
Definitely sorting the spine of the team was key to our run in 2020/ 21. ALso, funny how in the end we could have drawn vs West Brom and been alright lol.

7.) 13 Jun 2022 14:13:09
Faith, nobody knew that at the time, bro. Im so happy we got it done the way we did. We were the masters of our own destiny, just the way it should be.

16 Sep 2021 05:16:09
Ed02.given impasse on Salah contract and God forbid if it comes to standstill situation. who according to you will be worthy replacement for Salah.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - Someone like Moussa Diaby.}

1.) 16 Sep 2021 11:29:45
When I saw Diaby. I thought you were referring to the Arsenal player who scored against us in UCL 2007 and wondered, whao, he’s still playing 😂?

2.) 16 Sep 2021 11:53:29
I know he plays on the left for Leeds but I think Raphinha would be my ideal replacement, Mane could maybe go back to the right hand side.

3.) 16 Sep 2021 13:36:59
I've only ever seen Raphinha play on the right. Harrison plays on the left normally.

4.) 16 Sep 2021 13:07:00
Can these players get 30 plus goals, season after season?

5.) 16 Sep 2021 13:16:00
Raphinha can play anywhere across the front but plays more on the right for us, with Harrison on the left. Sometimes Raphinha switches wing mid game.

6.) 16 Sep 2021 14:05:56
Exactly my thoughts mark.

7.) 16 Sep 2021 11:53:31
Is that an alias of Kylian Mbappe ed?

8.) 16 Sep 2021 15:47:37
We simply HAVE to keep Salah, as important as Van Dijk.

9.) 16 Sep 2021 16:38:43
Time to invest big on striker.

10.) 16 Sep 2021 16:39:45
We’ve missed the boat to sell Salah. I’m glad we never did btw. But his value won’t be enough to justify selling him.

11.) 16 Sep 2021 16:42:48
We have to do our very best to keep Salah BUT if we cannot, Diaby, Chiesa, Raphinha are just three of the players who can replace him with time.

12.) 16 Sep 2021 18:17:46
Good question mark and salah, but did anyone really think Mo himself would hit those numbers? Highly doubt it if and when Salah does move on hopefully whoever comes in can do just as a good.

13.) 16 Sep 2021 19:55:28
My choice will be Pedro Neto.

14.) 16 Sep 2021 19:31:02
I agree Kloppers, it’s about the system getting the most out of players.

Origi for example “couldn’t hit a pass” last night, but walked away with a CL assist to his name.
Added to that we had Naby in the team who “only jogs about”, a 4th and 5th cb pairing and a rb who can’t make the England squad.

AC Milan couldn’t handle any of them!
It’s how WE play.

15.) 17 Sep 2021 01:57:58
Brad smith 4th and 5th CB pairing. How have you worked that out exactly. Matip has started every game so far and played out of his skin. ?

16.) 17 Sep 2021 08:17:04
Vvd must be first choice centre back so that means our 2nd and 3rd choice centre backs (between Konate, Phillips, Williams and Davies) haven’t even played a minute there. With 2 of them even away on loan as well.

17.) 17 Sep 2021 08:29:18
Bram, what game where you watching?

18.) 17 Sep 2021 12:39:10
Problem is, if we don't sell Salah, and he runs down his contract, we won't have the money to replace him.

05 Sep 2021 10:01:35
Ed02:read news articles which states contract talk with Salah stalled as he is demanding 500,000 per week. Quite a lot from Liverpool standard. Any update on this.
Thanks a lot.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - I am not able to help at all, sorry.}

1.) 05 Sep 2021 10:11:09
If this is what he’s wanting I don’t see him signing a new contract. Whether the club decides to let him move or run down his contract is another matter. I don’t see many having the money too next summer other than PSG when mbappe goes.

2.) 05 Sep 2021 10:34:11
Cannot see the owners letting Salah leave for free. We made that mistake with Wiji and then we didn’t have a pot to p##s in.

3.) 05 Sep 2021 10:46:19
It’s from The S*n, OP. Nothing to see here.

4.) 05 Sep 2021 11:24:57
It makes me wonder how much is salah worth a week. 500 is a lot but I think anything around 400 a week is worth it. It will uoset other high earners but he is our main man and has been consistent for years now. It will be his last big contract so he will want a tidy sum. He I a truly world class player and there aren't many about. The cost to replace his numbers surely far outweigh the cost of trying to replace him. Thoughts?

5.) 05 Sep 2021 12:31:56
Who cares …. it’s not your money.

6.) 05 Sep 2021 13:53:55
I care and I don’t think his worth £400k a week because if we give him that it set a benchmark what is not a level the club can run at. I love Salah but if he is asking for that I hope the club sell him we are still in a C.V. world where people are dying and clubs have lost millions but they have still got paid there massive contracts. It’s not a good look it’s pure greed.

7.) 05 Sep 2021 16:03:48
Don’t jump on mo’s back I think this story originated from that rag I’d not use to wipe a camels hole with! I don’t believe it so not bothered!

8.) 05 Sep 2021 17:58:22
Remember when we were going to sell Henderson cos we couldn't agree a contract extension this summer?

9.) 05 Sep 2021 20:02:58
Spot on, Jay Dub. I cannot understand why people are getting bent outta shape over click bait rubbish by well in your words, that rag.

Ed01 I slightly disagree with comments as I really thought mane was not playing well. too many heavy touches n wasn't linking well. take an odd shots at goal which was way off the mark.

Ed02 just wanted to know how is match fee derived. how come man utd has highest fee despite the fact that man city has played best football all season. thanks in advance.

praveenlfc

{Ed002's Note - Television appearances. It is not based on the quality of performance but the number of games shown live. It is called a "facilities" fee. Last season LFC were fourth but had the higest facilities fee because they had one more game shown live than the Manchester clubs and Chelsea.}
