I was watching a Gary Neville interview today from early this season where he grudgingly admitted Liverpool had a realistic chance of winning the League this season, but he made a point of saying the amount of games we played would massively effect our challenge.

Got me thinking about the FA Cup. I know if Lovren has stayed on it might’ve been different but does anybody think that was a game Klopp played to lose? Like why bring the kid on for Lovren if you wanted the win - wasn’t TAA on the bench? Cynical I know, and a massive gamble, but might he have looked at the big picture and just thought sack it off? I’m not saying either way but wondered what you lot thought.

{Ed025's Note - i think your right pompey, even when you equalized he never cracked a smile, which is unusual for him as hes usually like a raving lunatic on acid..

1.) 10 Jan 2019 20:58:20
Do you really think that TAA would have performed better than Hoever at CB? TAA is no central defender, and has already been called out for suspect positioning when defending. Ki-Jana seems to be able to play right back and cover CB. TAA is playing right back but can play centre midfield.

What were the other options? There's no way he could have moved Camacho into central defence and obviously couldn't have moved Moreno there either. I think Ki-Jana was the only real obvious solution.

Gini wasn't even on the bench, who has played there once or twice when we've really needed him to.

I don't think any other substitution would have made sense apart from bringing Hoever on.

2.) 10 Jan 2019 21:06:18
He announced to the whole world that Mignolet AND Moreno would start. Clearly winning the match was not very important to him. He figured he could allow 20mins to salvage it and hopefully play a lesser opponent next round, but the match was not important to Klopp. I myself would very much love to win the FA cup soon but never mind.

3.) 10 Jan 2019 22:22:51
Why would Klopp have brought on Salah and Firmino if he wanted to lose the game? He wanted to win the game but he also wanted to rest certain players who have played almost every game recently.

4.) 10 Jan 2019 22:53:53
The Premier League should be our number one priority then Champions League. FA Cup and League Cup are bonus if we win it nice if not don't care.

5.) 11 Jan 2019 02:40:28
I disagree, he wouldn't have played Salah and Firmino if he wanted to lose. It's dangerous to draw the match and face a replay next week, so why put those two in as substitute?

6.) 11 Jan 2019 02:58:02
I found it surprising didn’t at least have VVD, Hendo or Gini on the bench - we were clearly short senior players in midfield/ defence in our starting lineup so if he’d really cared about the result that much, he would have had at least one or two of those as backup there.

I don’t think he deliberately wanted to lose, but he clearly wasn’t fussed enough about the result to risk depleting and already thin defence with another injury. I also don’t believe all three of those were nursing niggles, he just wanted to make sure they were available against Brighton.

{Ed001's Note - van Dijk was ill and couldn't play. Gini and Hendo both needed a rest badly.}

7.) 11 Jan 2019 07:27:09
Depends if you think playing a kid CB at CB is more of a giveaway than play a kid RB/ CM at CB!?

8.) 11 Jan 2019 07:37:02
You can’t win anything with kids.

9.) 11 Jan 2019 08:40:38
Interesting Ed - I don’t agree with throwing cups games, but if the case is the team needed the rest or risk jeopardizing their PL performances then I completely agree with what he did.

{Ed001's Note - with those two it was more a case of risking injury if they had played.}

10.) 11 Jan 2019 09:01:24
I don’t think he ‘threw’ the game but I also don’t think he was too concerned about winning it. Yes he brought Salah and Bobby on but only for 20 minutes when it was clear either one or both should have come on at half time. Watching the pair of them I also thought they played within themselves, perhaps being told to take it easy.
He said himself before the game winning the FA Cup will not stop people moaning it has to be the league or CL.
Perhaps Lovren’s injury had an effect on his attitude towards the game and in the end he just just sacrificed it rather than risking further injuries to first team players.

11.) 11 Jan 2019 15:31:05
If we had no chance of winning the league I'd have been bothered about going out of the cup. I actually can't even remember who won it last year. The league is the clear priority with CL second.

12.) 11 Jan 2019 16:53:06
Even with the kids and the total disruption to the defence, if it hadn't been for our own mistakes, I don't think Wolves would have scored at all. Mignolet had absolutely nothing to do throughout the whole game.

I think Klopp put a team out and hoped we might get through, but probably didn't expect to. As stated earlier, there was zero reaction from him when we equalized.

I just hope we can pick up the points tomorrow in what will be a very tricky fixture.

13.) 11 Jan 2019 18:32:48
Agree KBL. Wolves didn’t look great. Certainly not enough to bother our 1st 11. got to say apart from Milly and Fab the other established squad players were poor - Origi, Sturridge and Shaq particularly. I’ve still got high hopes for Keita though. With a bit of confidence he’ll be fine. Think he’s got to be central though or maybe further up. Doesn’t look like the hard graft of chasing back comes naturally to him. Probably not a good idea to play him in the same team as Shaq let alone Sturridge aswell.

14.) 12 Jan 2019 11:05:06
Klopp took the game as an "inconvenience" and that is the way we played it. Even when Origi scored, it seemed Klopp's head was elsewhere. Do I want to win the FA Cup? Of course. I want to win every game we play BUT there is what I want and what the reality of football actually is. Players needed a rest and those that needed it, got the rest and that to Klopp, was the most important thing regardless of what I think.

15.) 13 Jan 2019 13:47:53
The only thing that matters right now is racking up enough points over the next 12 weeks to win the title.

It's been almost 30 years and I would like to see it happen again before I leave this earth.

I don't believe in "throwing games", and no LFC team should ever do that.

But we may not have a chance like this again for several years, and it would be extremely short-sighted to do anything that jeopardizes the collecting of the 40 or so EPL points we need from our remaining 16 games.

That includes the Bayern Munich game, four days before we play United.

Couple of quick questions for the Eds ref Fabinho? I think you said we beat Atletico Madrid to his signature; do you know why the Madrid deal fell through? And secondly, were any other clubs seriously interested at the price being asked? Thanks 👍🏻.

{Ed002's Note - Atletico Madrid turned to Fabinho after their first choice for this summer had shunned them over concerns about playing time. They had also shown interest last summer but the offer to buy him and not take delivery to January fell on deaf ears. They returned a few weeks ago and had held some early discussions with Monaco which resulted in a stalemate as a price could not be agreed between clubs. They returned again to talk on Saturday but they again could not agree a price.

Of the clubs previously interested, Juventus had originally wanted him as a RB but he was not first choice so it drifted away; Arsenal had baulked at the asking price - set high as part payment will be due to Rio Ave, Fluminense and Paulinia; Manchester United let their interest wane, largely because the player wanted a move to Manchester City, and they moved on to another target - who will also not be signing for them; PSG were only planning to use him as cover and thought him too expensive for that purpose. It was made clear last summer to the other sides who enquired (including Liverpool) that he would not be sold until this summer.}

1.) 30 May 2018 22:27:47
Great info Ed02. I think He will be a top player for us.

2.) 30 May 2018 23:27:33
Thank you Ed. ✅.

3.) 31 May 2018 00:09:41
Ed002 just out of curiosity was Manchester United's other target Savic?

{Ed002's Note - Not for that position.}

4.) 31 May 2018 00:25:15
It was Jorginho and even he said no to utd.

5.) 31 May 2018 00:52:19
From what I gather PSG wanted him last year but Monaco refused to sell to their rival. Player was not happy but got heas down.

6.) 31 May 2018 04:04:41
I wonder who Atletico’s first choice was?

7.) 31 May 2018 05:52:52
Did you know how much is lfc transfer budget for the next season ed?

{Ed001's Note - it does not work like that.}

8.) 31 May 2018 04:48:36
Just shows how many different factors can come into play with regards to transfers - and also shows why things can and do change so quickly. Interesting stuff Ed.

27 Dec 2017 20:31:17
Hi Ed's,

Are you aware of any firm interest from other clubs in any of our players?

I don't think anyone will be surprised if Couts leaves in the Summer but is there any interest in our Goalkeepers or defenders? I just have a hunch the Jan shopping is not over with Virgil (New keeper maybe) and some outs may also be on the horizon.

{Ed002's Note - The club will look to sell Markovic and sell or loan Wilson. Grujic and Woodburn should leave on loan. Coutinho interests Barcelona and Salah Real Madrid. Interest in Manefrom Madrid has gone. Ward will look for an out in the summer. There was interest from Spain in Sturridge and Ings could get a loan. Origi will likely look to options in the summer. Flanagan perhaps will look elsewhere.}

1.) 27 Dec 2017 20:44:01
I bet you feel like a parrot at times Ed2 mate lol.

2.) 27 Dec 2017 20:44:56
Thanks Ed 👍🏻.

3.) 27 Dec 2017 21:13:41
Not including Salah and Coutinho all of those players leaving could add up to a nice sum of money.

4.) 27 Dec 2017 21:21:54
Including salah and coutinho, it could add up to a lot more.

5.) 27 Dec 2017 23:50:47
U guys joking or what? Salah won't be leaving LFC in the near future. Perhaps in 3/ 4 years after performing consistently. I hope we start winning things quickly to avoid this.

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine - you need to understand that clubs become interested in players doing well - particularly those who approach them. }

6.) 28 Dec 2017 08:15:38
You watch, we will build a solid defence and then the attack will get sold haha, I think we could cope with the loss of Coutinho with a top replacement brought in but to lose Salah too so early would be a blow, Van Dijk coming in and Keita in the summer gives our team a stronger look already, add to that a top keeper and more than likely a solid left back and we can look to push at challenging for top spot or a trophy, now let's hope Klopp takes off his blinkers regarding Mignolet, Ward deserves a shot now in the league as Karius is playing CL, any firm interest in us looking at Keepers Ed? Anyone been approached that you know of?

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of. We have had a fair few looked at but nothing firm yet.}

7.) 28 Dec 2017 12:53:02
If ward doesn't get the FA cup game to impress then he should be demanding a move. The other two have had chances.

8.) 28 Dec 2017 18:38:03
Can anyone give the date of when Ed2 discussed the interest in Salah - if I'm reading this right? I used the search but there are pages and pages of results.

Cheers in advance.

{Ed002's Note - A few weeks ago - Salah had his representitives approach Real Madrid. Maybe search on Hazard or Neymar. Interesting to see Klopp telling the press about his apology for substituting him - anyway, this "lack of respect" has caused his agent to request a meeting.

14 May 2017 08:54:56
What's the plan for Markovic Ed? Spose his Anfield days are over? Are Hull likely to make a permanent offer? Also, was wondering whether you think we should've kept him with Mane away at AfCon and now out? Might've give us the width on the right we been so lacking.

{Ed001's Note - he is available for transfer and had no interest in coming back to be cover for Mane.}

1.) 14 May 2017 09:02:49
Hull will not be able to afford Markovic unless we pass him on to them for free and he accepts a much, much lower wage.

{Ed025's Note - with the sky money they will max, even the smaller clubs will be spending big this summer and lazar is well within their budget mate..

2.) 14 May 2017 09:24:08
If Hull were to be relegated they will still get a decent cut. Playing in the Championship has no place for Markovic within their wage budget.

Staying up, I cannot see Markovic agreeing to move their permanently.

3.) 14 May 2017 09:22:12
Even for a championship club?

{Ed025's Note - yes craig, with the parachute payments they will still have plenty of dosh to spend mate, and the likes of markovic will not break the bank as there is not much interest from elsewhere..

4.) 14 May 2017 09:41:14
In my head I'm thinking about a fee around 10m (could be well wide of the mark) . That would be within their budget I'm sure but it would be a large chunk I'm not sure they would want to part with.
I could be wrong but I don't see him joining Hull if they go down.

{Ed025's Note - hull are a very ambitious club craig and have very good financial backing in place, your take on the fee seems about right to me and that is well within their parameters mate..

10 Jun 2014 21:30:48
Sebastian Coates made the Uruguay squad. Is he likely to play and could he still be in Brendan's plans? Personally, strikes me like someone who could go on to blossom if sold -to our regret. Kinda like a Gerard pique / Paul pogba.

{Ed002's Note - The club will sell him if the can.}

1.) 10 Jun 2014 22:08:14
Giménez is injured so Lugano will likely partner Godin. Hopefully, from a Liverpool perspective, Coates will overtake Lugano, get some game time, perform & attract a buyer.

2.) I hope we keep him, I think he could be a good player

3.) From a Liverpool point of view I would like him to get ahead of Lugano, have a storming World Cup, have confidence up the wazzoo and come back to Liverpool performing like we have never seen before and playing Skrtel/Toure etc out of the team.

Unlikely I know, but if we are writing wish lists, this would be mine.

4.) I agree but BR doesn't like him for some reason. Easy replacement for Agger and backup to Sakho, besides we would also have Toure and Kelly. if we had Sakho, Skrtel, Toure, Coates (and Kelly) as our CB options next season I wouldn't mind one bit. He would also allow Ilori to go out and get game time instead of being 4th choice.

if not offers of around £4m come in then loan to a team in the Serie A would be my second option before selling him for dirt.

5.) Forgot about Caceres everyone?

6.) I'm surprised people still think he could make it at Liverpool. He's too slow, not a bit too slow but a way too slow. He's not good on the ball either. I'd imagine we'd be accepting £2m or who knows we could even accept half that.

Hopefully he will get some game time but I would expect Lugano to get the nod as per RedKev.

7.) Wez B - I believe Caceres plays LB for Uruguay

8.) Caceres will likely play at full-back.

9.) 11 Jun 2014 17:38:28
Maxi Peirera is the first choice right full back

When Bobby, Mo and Mané hug after scoring. That.

02 Jul 2019 14:15:58
Hi Eds.

I remember seeing footage of Bob Paisley saying the one player he had most enquiries from other clubs for was Ray Kennedy. Got me thinking which of our current midfielders are most coveted by other clubs. I'd have thought Gini, Hendo or Fab would be most in demand but the only ones I'd consider letting go would be Lallana or Shaq (and only if suitable replacements could be found) .

Has there been or do you expect any interest in our midfield? Like the front 3, I suppose every player has his price?

1.) 02 Jul 2019 16:34:27
Gini was available last summer - no takers. Maybe after this season some clubs might be interested but it wouldn't be a so called top side.

As it stands at the moment i doubt any of our midfield would be in great demand.

2.) 02 Jul 2019 16:54:28
I think our midfield works due to the balance and the ethos within the team, rather than having worldies in those positions.

Whilst I can't imagine any interest for them, I think some top teams would be happy adding a Fabinho to their spine.

3.) 02 Jul 2019 18:02:16
If our midfield were any good we'd win something like the Champions League.

4.) 02 Jul 2019 18:43:56
The question was is there interest in our midfielders.

5.) 02 Jul 2019 18:52:45

No-one would want our midfielders? You mean the boys that got us to 97 points and a European Cup? I don't think Klopp would sell any of them. The only one who he may sell would be lallana i suppose, if he was listed there would be interest.

And Gini being available for transfer last summer, that was just paper talk wasn't it? He is similar to Henderson in the way that he was asked to play a more defencive role although we bought him as an attacking midfielder. Now we have fab he will have freedom to get forward more. I imagine he is more happy in his new role. Two goals in 5 minutes against Barcelona! If he was listed he'd be snapped up in a second. But Klopp won't sell him. He was epic last season.

People who think our midfielders are average must be blind. i've never seen a 3 man midfield work as hard as our 3 do. Whoever plays.

6.) 02 Jul 2019 19:23:35
Hang on a minute FlashTheRed, didn't our midfield just win the CL for the SIXTH time?

7.) 02 Jul 2019 19:41:15
when greece won the euros, were we clamoring for their players.? Our midfieders are great for us, doesn't meant the world is busting the door down to get them in their team. Oh, nd let's not be too sensitive about this reality.

8.) 02 Jul 2019 20:19:39
Exactly Faith, they suit our team but other teams are not pushing hard to sign them or not that we know of.

Traor, Dukek won the cl, I don't understand the point Red. The question is not are they good players.

Gini was put up for sale last summer, mentioned on here a few times, no takers. You might not like it but it's reality. Lallana would likely be sold but again no takers atm.

9.) 02 Jul 2019 20:52:32
Couldn't be arsed about whether other teams are busting in the door to sign our players as that has NEVER been the bar for whether a player is good enuff or not. That is a nonsensical argument to make when rating players. There are tonnes of players that are brilliant that I would like us to sign BUT won't sign for LFC cos Klopp does not want them or may not suit the way we play. That does not remove from their brilliant ability.

Lallana would have been sold had he not been injured according to Ed01 and Gini being touted by Fernebahce last season does not mean he was up for sale cos the Ed's NEVER said Klopp wanted him gone. A bit of clarification is needed here.

10.) 02 Jul 2019 20:53:12
I would have thought Mane and Salah are the players most coveted by other teams.

11.) 02 Jul 2019 21:41:05
Would say so Mikey.

Am 90% sure you are wrong about Gini Red wolf. He had a poor season in 2017/ 18 and was made available for sale, confirmed by eds at the time.

12.) 02 Jul 2019 22:33:48
I see red wolf is on the rampage defending the honour of anyone wearing Red. mate, just relax and read what people are saying before you starting making long drawn out conclusions that are off base.

I think we can acknowledge that the rest of the world don't want one of our players, whilst also praising their ability for us. Like I said, no need to be sensitive about it. I love our midfield group, they've done the job so far. Am I worried about losing any in the market, not really.!

13.) 02 Jul 2019 23:47:11
Any team in the league would take Fabinho.

14.) 03 Jul 2019 00:17:00
Let us not take anything away from the midfield, but it was the team - on and off the field, and the hard work of all - that won the sixth in Madrid.

Whilst I don't think that the midfield are at a level of alumni like Alonso, I think they're a brilliant example to bench players and youth of proper graft. That's if we can ever sort out our issues with youth and promises that the eds have mentioned.

15.) 03 Jul 2019 10:21:36
I don't believe the gini fenerbache stories. Players are always linked aren't they. Lovren is off to Milan. There may have been interest, but why sell a player who he signed the year before?

And gini didn't have a poor season 17/18. In the games against city he was awesome. With pipco gone our group tightened in midfield, gini played near on every game, especially in Europe.

Think of it this way; who, from our group of versatile midfielders, would WANT to leave? Maybe lallana as he isn't getting much game time. But that could change. I still think he has something to offer the team.
Maybe Milner if Leeds had been promoted. He has achieved what he wanted at liverpool. Played at lb despite being one of the leagues best midfielders. And i know none of us would begrudge him if he did join leeds. He has been a consummate professional. Always given 110%. Even did a nivea advert!

And totally agree, any team in the league, if not europe, would take fabhino. that's why we snapped him up on day 1. Could of ended up with Fred! Lol.

If no one is banging on the door for our excellent midfielders then im glad. We've been burnt so many times (owen, torres, alonso, macherano, suarez, coutinio) we are actually arguing and some sounding almost disappointed that real and Barcelona aren't after our players!

10 May 2019 20:37:15
Do Wolves have anything left to play for on Sunday? As one of the English top 4 will be Champions of Europe does that mean our 7th placed team get into the Europa League? Sorry if the Ed's have already covered this.

Still buzzing after Tuesday night. I found myself actually shaking in those last 5 minutes when we retreated a bit and Barça were coming on. Still not sure I agree with bringing an extra defender on in those moments but what a perfect night. The crowd singing Imagine after YNWA reminded me of that old black n white footage of Anfield in the 60s.

Love to all reds and here's to a bit of silverware to round off another remarkable season. X.

1.) 10 May 2019 21:11:00
I think they do mate yes, not 100% though.

2.) 10 May 2019 21:47:02
Wolves fans want to do us over.

I have them at work all around me and and i said to them i don't understand why.

Well i do understand.

They want to show themselves how far they come and we are the acid test.

Which shows how far we have come.

I take it as a huge compliment.

3.) 10 May 2019 21:53:01
I’ve found over the years some teams show up just to give their fans something to brag about and some teams try a little but are already on holiday mode.
Suppose Klopp has to ready the team to be ready for anything.

4.) 10 May 2019 22:12:36
Don’t understand why anyone would expect anything but a fully professional performance from any team on the final day regardless of whether the result makes a difference or not. They are professionals who should give their all regardless. We just prepare like we would any other game and never expect any team to roll over and get their bellies tickled. We just need to win. Only then will City’s result matter.

5.) 10 May 2019 22:14:06
I don't think it does, I think it actually opens up another spot for another European league . But Wolves will go all out for their final game of what has been a great season.

6.) 10 May 2019 23:09:17
A lot of people talk about having something to play for. I think it works in the opposite. I think you always play to your best, unless there's something to play for, in which case sometimes the nerves get the better of you and your level drops. But when you have "nothing" to play for, you can relax more and really go for it without worrying about the consequences of failure. That could work to our advantage with Brighton.

7.) 11 May 2019 00:39:24
7th place will join Europa league knock out stages
But Wolves are already there, Everton 4 points behind

8.) 11 May 2019 01:33:12
Thanks Roy.

9.) 11 May 2019 01:37:42
If watford win the FA cup then don't they take it off wolves?

10.) 11 May 2019 04:05:29
I think you’re right Jammin.

24 Apr 2019 21:56:45
Who’s happy now City went out of the Champions League?

1.) 24 Apr 2019 22:09:05
Do you actually think that made the slightest difference tonight?

Man U quit the season a few weeks ago. They couldn't beat a spider that's had 7 of its legs cut off.

2.) 24 Apr 2019 22:09:47
What’s that got to do with anything?

3.) 24 Apr 2019 22:24:34
OP, you gloating makes NO sense at all. In fact, no one even understands why you are gloating? You think City getting out of the CL has anything to do with them toying w/ Utd? Utd played the way they have been playing for weeks now so again, what are you on about?

4.) 24 Apr 2019 22:34:17
Are you joking? We’ve got 5 potentially 6 massive games left and City have 3 + Cup Final. I’d personally prefer if City had another 2 vital games v Ajax to negotiate and if you think it’s irrelevant I’m wasting my time.

5.) 24 Apr 2019 22:34:45
Answer = Spurs.

Look we may not win the league but I’d settle for the Champions league as a consolation 👍

However, I maintain, City will not win their last 3 league matches 🤝.

6.) 24 Apr 2019 22:52:17
I am, id rather play Spurs in a Champions League final than City.

7.) 25 Apr 2019 03:05:43
Ron I love that 😂😂. Settle for champions league as consolation. Brilliantly sums up our progression as a team that statement. We are world class now let's enjoy these moments.

8.) 25 Apr 2019 03:21:25
does nobody get that 2 extra CL games for City might've helped us win the league?

9.) 25 Apr 2019 06:01:30
Pompeyred maybe so but maybe not also. What does it matter? It's an argument that no longer needs to exist. They're not in it so how can we know, city have played a lot of football, they've a very strong squad and have showed no evidence of struggling with fixture congestion. We're in the semis, that's all I care about. A break in their routine of constant games every 3/ 4 days might actually disrupt their rhythm if anything, winning is a great habit and they've been bouncing from game to game winning. I'd rather be playing constantly when winning. We've seen how we often struggle to regain our form after a week or 2 break. Our best form came in December with heavy fixture load and since last international break with regular games. In fact the more I think about your point I disagree with you😂.

What will be will be lads. We’re all having a great time watching the Klopp era evolve and the journey is far from over.

This team has earned us the right of 2 free hits against one of the greatest clubs in the world and a chance to get one over 2 players that chose to leave our beloved LFC. Let’s be grateful for what we’ve got - it’s all working out perfectly.

Happy days.

Spot on, OP. The fact that this team is not the finished article yet is absolutely FRIGHTENING. This is why many in the media and other rival fans are seriously curling up in the fetal position, praying that LFC DON'T win the PL.

Cos if we do this under Klopp this season IMO, it will be first of a few titles under Klopp and they know it. Same goes for the CL were we to win it this season. A double? Then, all bets are off. If we are this good now, just wait till we actually become the finished article or close to it. Like I said, FRIGHTENING.

Regardless of his behaviour when trying to get the Barcelona move, You’d have to consider what the deal would cost and what else you could get for the same price. Also, how our performances and results improved almost overnight after he left. Great little player but we’ve moved on.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. At this stage I’d be happy for Karius to go and prove himself elsewhere and Migs to stay as reserve. 👍🏻.

Very possibly Aldridge for the most underrated. Fantastic example of great scouting from the lower leagues.

His ball retention has improved. That’s probably Klopp’s influence to get him making better decisions. At the expense of his trademark driving runs at Leipzig. Make no mistake though he is very talented. Personally I think it’s the non football attributes he’s lacking at the moment - confidence and not quite knowing his role. He’s a work in progress for me but due to his fee I suspect we all expected instant results. Bit more patience required I think.
