Good afternoon Eds any truth in press reports linking us to Josip Ilicic? I tried search but only found some links from 2013.
Looks a decent player from what I have read but seems a bit old at 28 to be a typical 'pool signing.

newposition

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest in Ilicic from Liverpool, but there is from elsewhere.}

1.) 06 Apr 2016 16:11:47
Thank you.

31 Mar 2016 03:49:07
Dear Eds, I read today that Mkhitaryans contract runs out next year. Any idea if Liverpool have any interest in him?

newposition

{Ed001's Note - we had interest in the past, and it is very likely he will move this summer, but I believe our interest is dead at the moment.}

1.) 31 Mar 2016 05:48:54
How the friggin hell have Dortmund let Micky get so close to being out of contract? That's risky on their part. Maybe it's the player who didn't want to enter into negotiations as he wanted to see what else was out there? Oozes finesse and scores a lot of goals from midfield easily a £30 million player if not more. Would walk into any team in the world I think, that's how highly I rate him. Gutted we missed the boat there. Then again Rogers would have played him at right back and destroyed the fella.

{Ed001's Note - it is the agent more than the player.}

2.) 31 Mar 2016 05:59:22
same meat different gravy buttercup.

{Ed001's Note - not really, players with those kind of agents do not tend to get involved other than to sign things after it has all been agreed.}

3.) 31 Mar 2016 06:16:58
Thanks for the insight buttercup I didn't realize some agents had that much jurisdiction and autonomy of their clients.

{Ed001's Note - there are a lot of players that literally want nothing to do with any choices, they trust their agents to take care of it all. Personally I would suggest steering clear of any player who does so, as it shows that they are only considering earning money, rather than showing ambition to play for the teams best suited to bring them success.}

We should offer Chelsea a swap deal Costa for Beneteke!

There was paper talk over the summer that Mourinho wanted him but chelsea board didn't allow it. Costa would fit in better with the Liverpool style of play plus he is a 'hard man', we could do with one of those.

newposition

1.) 02 Dec 2015 01:03:14
You want a player who has already refused to join us and would rather return to Spain? Not for me.

2.) 02 Dec 2015 06:17:54
He's an idiot!

3.) 02 Dec 2015 08:34:07
I cannot believe any Liverpool fan would like to see Costa playing for us. Let alone the Liverpool players he has stamped on and kicked!

4.) 02 Dec 2015 09:41:07
Classical craziness.

5.) 02 Dec 2015 10:05:11
Why does Benteke get such a harsh deal of our fans? I think he is a very good, strong player. His goals to games is not bad for someone who's had injuries since joining us and coming into a new team. Given a pre season with the team I fully expect Big Ben to be a completely different player under guidance of a good manager in Klopp.

Baz.

6.) 02 Dec 2015 11:39:23
Just look at his goals. He can create something from nothing. His goal against them was spectacular.

7.) 02 Dec 2015 12:02:10
Quick someone send for a (head) Doctor 😂.

8.) 02 Dec 2015 12:05:36
Costa looks like a pug.

9.) 02 Dec 2015 12:31:18
Costa is brilliant but no thanks, he's a thug and will just cause the club problems not unlike Suarez.
More than happy with benteke right now.

10.) 02 Dec 2015 13:49:54
Costa is such a brilliant striker he can score even with his back to target as he had shown last week.

11.) 02 Dec 2015 13:55:55
Shake head in disbelief 😧.

12.) 02 Dec 2015 15:59:47
i would rather have benteke, his injuries have stopped him showing his best form and i think once he gets fully fit he will be a top scorer for us.

13.) 02 Dec 2015 16:13:10
Eds do I win the prize for most down voted comment! No one agrees with me! Fair enough, pretty controversial I guess, though in all the criticisms no one actually says that Costa is not the better player.

Some interesting opposing views:

"I cannot believe any Liverpool fan would like to see Costa playing for us. Let alone the Liverpool players he has stamped on and kicked! " - I assure you I am a true red and was chuffed when we signed Paul Ince back in the day despite him having kicked plenty of our players whilst playing for Utd.

Also I agree Costa is a bit of a thug, as was pointed out above so was Suarez and if it isn't too sacrilegious so was Gerrard. Doesn't anyone think we might be a bit too polite as a team at the moment?

I am not putting Benteke down I like him and agree with time he should improve under Klopp but I do think Costa is better and suits our pressing and short passing game . Anyway all a bit academic as its never going to happen.

Anyway love the site and the nuggets of info the Eds give out. YNWA.

14.) 02 Dec 2015 23:31:46
Costa is an excellent striker imo!
Would i want him at lfc? Not in a million years. Personally i cannot stand his antics and thus would find it really hard to support him. He would disrupt the team, be too self important and get red cards for fun and sulk like a child when the manager would inevitably have to attack his attitude.

15.) 02 Dec 2015 18:07:49
Benteke has done well for us so far, scored different types of goals and gives us a threat in the air.

16.) 03 Dec 2015 18:55:16
Benteke is ok not going to set world on fire but outside of a Barcelona trio and a Bayern Munich and Man City one each, who is?! Certainly not the "thug pug" (steeling a mix of the quotes above)!

17.) 06 Dec 2015 04:11:04
benteke is quality like most when 100% fit but he just a cog on the lfc machine, i mean when all fit our strike force is really quite awesome, sturridge = world class n very all round striker, benteke=top class at mo but very differant to studge, ings= proper fox in box type who will just keep getting beta, origi= raw talent but still only 19/20 but we all caught a glimpse of what is in there, firmino= quote heir Klopp here " the perfect complete striker, can play any forward roll well, my point here is we just might the best strike force at mo for any given game/style we wanna utilise, correct me if I'm wrong but all other top clubs in prem have 2 top strikers at best we got 3 top class 2 on there way that's b4 our loanees n youngsters, every happy wi our situ'

28 Nov 2015 21:43:26
Mignolet - Clyne, Å krtel, Lovren, Moreno - Can, Milner, Allen - Ibe, Lallana - Benteke from that guy on Twitter who seems to get it right more often than not.

newposition

1.) 28 Nov 2015 22:37:41
No Coutinho or Firmino? i'd be surprised with that line up.

2.) 29 Nov 2015 00:50:17
I would be surprised too - thought I would post it anyway! Firmino looked knackered on Thursday though.

3.) 29 Nov 2015 03:38:09
Coutinho did pick up that little knock last weekend, maybe making sure he doesn't pick up something more serious.

4.) 29 Nov 2015 07:15:06
Over the next 2 weeks, we have 5 games with trips all the way south to Southampton, all the way north east to Newcastle as well as a trip to Switzerland. If there is a little niggle, I can understand Coutinho being rested but Klopp is not one to rest players with little niggles, so could be a tactical decision and management.

5.) 29 Nov 2015 09:02:50
More surprised by no Lucas!

6.) 29 Nov 2015 09:21:01
Lucas is suspended.

7.) 29 Nov 2015 09:22:19
Lucas is suspended having picked up his 5th yellow against Man City last weekend.

8.) 29 Nov 2015 09:45:41
Or he knows were at home and there is a huge chance Swansea will sit ten men on there 18 line which makes the city style obsolete!

We will play up to big ben today I think.

9.) 29 Nov 2015 09:47:56
Lucas is suspended.

10.) 28 Nov 2015 21:56:38
No Firmino or Coutinho? I can see Firmino rested, but I worry Coutinho is injured?

15 Jun 2015 14:38:23
From my friend the Saints Fan: Apparently Clyne agreed terms with Liverpool but due to their lowball offers when they thought they were the only team in the running Saints have rejected.

Now Man U back in, since Alves signed new contract with Barcelona. Man U is Clynes preferred deal so he is hanging on.

newposition

1.) 15 Jun 2015 14:53:46
Yeah alright! Good one! :-D

2.) 15 Jun 2015 21:23:51
He`s not that good and if Shaw is anything to go by, they can have him

3.) 16 Jun 2015 09:21:38
Sounds about right.Sóton are tough to buy from though.Look how they got all that money out of us for Lovren and Lallana last season and did we improve them as players or get the best out of them ? Certainly not. Maybe Sóton had a better manager and coaching staff than us.

Bournemouth vs Liverpool is Klopp's 122nd league match at Liverpool. That's the same number as Brendan Rodgers had, here's how their records compare.

Klopp vs Brenda
Wins K-68 B-63
Lost K-19 B-29
Goals K-247 B-232
Conceded K-126 B-151
Win% K-56% B-52%
PPG K-1.97 B-1.80.

newposition

1.) 07 Dec 2018 14:44:55
Friggin gutted too hear mane, clyne, lovren out of Bournemouth trip big loss considering Gomez injury it was already a difficult game made even trickier now any way rubbish happens part of the game unfortunately injuries occur, hope Nat Phillips has been keeping in shape and fabihno might b needed there .

2.) 07 Dec 2018 15:20:45
The record isn't that different when you see it like that. Think the Klopp reputation is able to bring in better players though which will benefit us in the long run. and he talks much less bull, although I'm sure Ed02 won't agree with that 😁.

{Ed001's Note - the point is though that Klopp's record is getting better, while Brendan's was getting worse.}

3.) 07 Dec 2018 15:25:15
Clyne is not a loss at all.

Think having our midfielders back including Keita and Fab along with Hendo Millie and Gini will see us through

Also have a feeling that Bobby is going to be coming back into form.

Mo will be on the score sheet as well.

4.) 07 Dec 2018 15:31:20
Hate these stats. Actually played cup finals under klopp, and only ran city close under Brendan.
Not to mention the change over period of what Brendan left klopp with, perhaps the worst squad we’ve had in PL history.
001 makes a fantastic point, Klopps is improving, Brendan’s crumbled. The game against Madrid where he rested players will always make me despise the man.
And the very very bottom line, luis Suarez. With Bobby’s form how it is, I’m saying very confidently, with the rest of the squad, if we had Suarez up front right now, we would be 4 points ahead of City, the man turned draws into wins and losses into draws. He almost won us a league single handedly.

5.) 07 Dec 2018 15:36:01
There's a big difference in the "intangible" areas that each manager brought to the club. Klopp has brought a passion, unity and self belief that was not there under Rodgers. I always got the sense that Rodgers put himself before the team, whereas it's clearly not the same case with Klopp. Those were the Suarez years, not the Rodgers years. We are definitely living in the Klopp years. 😉.

6.) 07 Dec 2018 15:37:20
Ed, how do you rate Brendan as a manager overall? I recall you mentioning some years back that, whilst he was still in charge of Liverpool, that he was a good coach in the sense that he could improve players, but perhaps not such a good manager.
Has anything in the meantime changed for you?

{Ed001's Note - no, I still don't rate him as a manager. His style of football is terrible and shows a real lack of understanding of the game. It is all about passing for passing's sake.}

7.) 07 Dec 2018 20:54:08
Once again, the stats don't tell the whole story. The stats don't tell you that BR bottled the PL and could not be arsed to fix our defence cos well, he himself said in a post match interview (one of his disgraceful pressers) that, "It's not something I am interested in". The stats also don't say how BR was able to make us a weaker team and squad after that title-bottling the season, peeing in the wind with his feckless transfer policy or lack thereof. Did the stats also mention that Klopp achieved two Cup finals in his first 8 months with BR's players, the same ones he threw under the bus when it was convenient for him?

ArAy and Ed01 are correct. BR was always incompetent and his 6 months of "glory" does not remove from from the dreaful two and a half yearrs we had under him nor the fact that he was all about himself and never took responsibility for the terrible things that happened under his watch. He only wanted the credit for whatever went right. On a coaching ability level, there is, never have been and by all current accounts, never be a comparison between the two. Klopp is the manager BR wishes he was even if he wind 1000 trophies in that pub league he manages at, he will always be inferior to Klopp.

{Ed025's Note -" klopp and brover sitting in a tree K.I.S.S.I.N.G.. :)

8.) 08 Dec 2018 00:57:01
I’m still mad at Rogers. That one season we came second, if we weren’t winning we had aspas or Moses to bring on. In January if we had one attacking player to change a game then we would have won the league. I’m sure we started Suarez sterling Sturridge Coutinho Gerrard hendo 90% of the games that year.
Genuinely believe one rotation player would have won us the league.

9.) 08 Dec 2018 12:22:00
Ed25, facts do not care about tree kissing. #ORRRRRIIIIIGGGIII!

21 May 2017 17:00:23
Dear Eds, something I have always wondered… How much of a difference does it make to a potential signing whether or not their new employers qualify for the champions league? After all Liverpool have qualified for next season but recent history suggests that the season after we won’t, likewise Arsenal haven’t this season but recent history suggests this is a blip. So is it accurate for us fans to think a player will only sign if we qualify for champions league? On the other hand, I can see it makes a difference to the team in terms of budget for the type of player they can afford.

newposition

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on the player.}

16 Sep 2016 15:43:02
Phil Thompson in the Echo today saying he would love to have Diego Costa on our team. I said this about six months ago on here and got a torrent of abuse, "how could a Liverpool fan think that etc. " well I feel justified today!
Bring on the abuse.

newposition

1.) 16 Sep 2016 15:59:32
No doubt he's a great player . he's just a massive tool!

{Ed001's Note - why is it justified now Thommo has said it anyway?}

2.) 16 Sep 2016 16:33:53
Thommo saying it does the opposite of proving you correct! This is the guy who told us Sanchez was nailed on to sign!

3.) 16 Sep 2016 17:12:56
I saw a few Liverpool fans choosing Costa or Hazard as the player they would take from Chelsea. I can't see why everyone's answer wouldn't be Kante. Regardless of how many CM's we have, he is the best in the holding position in the league by a mile.

4.) 16 Sep 2016 17:28:30
I would take Kante over any of Chelsea`s other players.

5.) 16 Sep 2016 17:29:53
The same Thompson who helped get rid of fowler? Good drivers Don't always make good mechanics.

6.) 16 Sep 2016 17:45:02
MK how is that relevant?

7.) 16 Sep 2016 18:36:35
I wouldn't really use Thompson as any kind of validation as his opinion has been let's say suspect over the years. A nation might vote in donald trump into presidency in a few months time, however it does not mean their decision would have been a good one. So by voting in a massive tool would that validate that he is right for the job or that a lot of people had a suspect opinion or notion? Just a poser.

8.) 16 Sep 2016 18:54:51
I remember we wanted him to replace Suarez and approached him. Everyone thought it would be a great signing.
He's a good player, he's no Suarez but he's dangerous.
He has an edge which opposition fans like to hate him for, that's natural, but there's no denying when he's up for it he's a dangerous player.

9.) 16 Sep 2016 19:37:00
The same Phil Thompson who allegedly wasn't convinced that Ronaldo was worth half a million signing on fee, regardless of that is 100% correct or not I don't rate Thompson as a coach or judge of player.

10.) 16 Sep 2016 20:47:10
Hazard.

13 Apr 2016 14:33:14
Coutinho nominated for young player of the year.

Young Player of the Year nominees: Alli, Barkley, Butland, Coutinho, Kane and Lukaku

Utd fans no doubt upset about absence of Martial.

Well done Couts!

newposition

1.) 13 Apr 2016 14:57:23
Ali as just turned 20, first year in prem and full national call up.

2.) 13 Apr 2016 15:08:40
Personally, I would agree that Alli or Kane are probably favourites.

However, a big round of applause for PipCo for the nomination!

3.) 13 Apr 2016 15:20:23
I suspect Kane or Alli will win but I'd rather have Coutinho in my team.

4.) 13 Apr 2016 15:30:50
Got to be Kane I reckon.

5.) 13 Apr 2016 16:00:39
Pretty sure Ali wouldn't make the Brazil squad.

{Ed001's Note - obviously, as he doesn't qualify to play for Brazil....}

6.) 13 Apr 2016 16:58:43
deli alli is nailed on to win that award, no question, it is nice that the little magician has been nominated, don't know why the utd fans are getting upset, they should be used to disappointment by now, in fact I am creating my own award, most deluded manager in the premier league, its currently a tie between lvg and Roberto Martinez.

7.) 13 Apr 2016 17:02:06
Dele Alli is the stand out - first season in prem, still young (unlike Coutinho who is almost 24! Not that young for a football player) and has performed above and beyond expectations. He'd be a deserving winner.

8.) 13 Apr 2016 17:30:30
It's not usually the youngest player that wins usually it's the big names for example sterling didn't win it hazard did. Personally I'd expect coutinho to win it as he's the best footballer on the list.

9.) 13 Apr 2016 17:38:17
Alli, hands down. Kane is already a known quantity.

10.) 13 Apr 2016 18:46:27
Alli all day long for me.

11.) 13 Apr 2016 19:58:09
Alli, first season in the prem, and a pretty outstanding one, and is a few years younger than couts and Kane. Although I think Kane's the best player named on the list, got everything a striker needs.

12.) 14 Apr 2016 08:16:53
Think this award is fairly unfair, you shouldn't be able to be in the main and young player catagory and you shouldn't be able to win twice in a row - it's an award that should be dedicated to the best of the players breaking through as much as some arbitrary age barrier. Kane shouldn't be allowed in it.

11 Apr 2016 04:58:32
What a plonker Ibe is. Klopp clearly is aware of what he can do so if he doesn't pick him he just needs to try harder. wonder if he will be the next Liverpool youngster to hire Aidy Ward.

newposition

1.) 11 Apr 2016 07:19:17
sorry, what just happened here mate?

2.) 11 Apr 2016 08:13:31
What are you talking about with this?

3.) 11 Apr 2016 09:00:12
Why exactly is Ibe a plonker? Your post makes no sense at all.

Whether this story is true or not I never really understand peoples surprise if one of our players leaves. Real Madrid and Barcelona and PSG all pay considerably higher wages, why wouldn't you go? Neymar left Barcelona after all. What'
s Bale on in Spain more than he'd get in the premier league I imagine,

Eds how inportant is Buvac to the project? Do you know if there are certain responsibilities that are exclusively his ie scouting/ traning etc.

{Ed001's Note - training and tactics are his areas. In the short term his loss will have little to no effect. Long term it depends on how well we replace him, unless they sort things out.}

Didn't Barcelona do the same thing a couple of seasons ago: 1 keeper for Champions League and 1 for La Liga? Seems a sensible ploy if Klopp believes his goalies to be of a similar standard.

At the risk of incurring the ire of Ed002.

Can a player buy out his own contract with a club and then move, as a free transfer to another? If this is possible wouldn't it always be cheaper to get a player to buy out his contract and the new club reimburse him, rather than negotiating a transfer fee?

newposition

{Ed002's Note - If he has a buy out clause, yes. Else he can do the same under the Webster Ruling if he meets the conditions. It doesn't happen of course as the player would not have the money to do that.}

I was wondering that this morning as I imagine Gabriel Jesus will take his place in City's first team. Can't imagine Aguero hanging around for that, would Liverpool be interested? Like you say I think he probably doesn't suit Klopps style. As I understand it Guardiola has questioned his pressing ability.

newposition

{Ed002's Note - Aguero won't be moving to Liverpool.}
