In this window, we had quite a few more departures than arrivals, much needed! I think we also brought in more money from sales than we spent on players we bought. This seems amazing as I believe that the quality of the squad is better than last year.
Yes, we are still a long way off the quality we had the last couple of times we challenged for the title (Alonso, Gerrard, Mascherano, Suarez Carragher etc), but the main area to work on is the defensive stability. Hopefully, Klopp's coaching can help here.

I am actually really interested in Klopp's actions at LB. We looked at a couple but nobody that was going to be really a clear #1 at the position. Chilwell had never played in the Premier League right? So we have no idea if he would be better or not if he gets a run of games.

Long time follower, first time poster.

Can I ask why there seems to be a lot of fans suggesting that Klopp wants to sell Mignolet in the summer? It does not seem likely to me because Klipperty just handed him a new contract extension, which seems a waste of time and effort if he didn't intend on keeping him in the squad.

I do not think that this is a strategy to drive up his price because of a long contract, seems unlikely.

Everyone knows this was a stupid mistake by the club and manager. It's just people don't want to accept it as the manger is Klopp. I share the same view as yours, he ain't Suarez to protect his value. Couldn't find any other reason.

2.) 16 Feb 2016 16:05:14
Big fan of Klopp but he made a big mistake with that one. Anyhow, Ed has said that we are looking at a goalie to come in this summer so I would take this extension with a pinch of salt.

3.) 16 Feb 2016 16:07:38
mistakes can be rectified by anyone. imo if klopp can get the goalkeeper he wants, migs will go if not he will keep him and when asked why he has kept him point to the 5 year contract. I do think that danny ward will leave in the summer though, he enjoyed playing for Aberdeen, and at 23yrs old he needs to be playing regularly, perhaps Aberdeen will come back in for him in the summer. ryan fulton will then be promoted to number 2 as I expect Swindon to buy vigureux. just an example of the type of decisions klopp is facing this summer.

4.) 17 Feb 2016 04:03:29
It is possible that he is OK with Migs as the #1 keeper but if he manages to attract a top class alternative, he is happy to keep Migs as #2 only for cup games. assuming the owners don't mind having a goalkeeper that cost 9m sitting on the bench.

5.) 17 Feb 2016 09:00:26
People need to keep in mind 2 things.

1. He still has to play Mignolet for half the season, including what could be our best shot at CL place next season. Why make unhappy your first choice? Its not as if players never get sold when they're in contract.

2. I know Ed001 (? ) made the point that if the defence was causing issues for Migs then he'd be doing something different trying to compensate but I disagree. That would assume that every person behaves the same. Some keepers will withdraw, become more tentative etc the more their defence keep panicking and backing onto them. We don't know what he'd do with a defence that could play a proper line regularly - not just the odd game - and wasn't getting battered at every set piece by every team.

Don't get me wrong, whilst he is one of the best shot stoppers around for me Mignolet is 6-10 league position keeper not a top 4 keeper. But here's the thing, look at the grief Hart, Cech and Courtois have had when their defence has been pants in front of them and those 3, with De Gea and Loris are the best keepers in the league. A good defence won't turn him into a top 4 keeper but he might not be as bad as we think behind stronger defenders. Despite how much people like to kick the goalie and blame him for all the defensive woes it cuts both ways, if he knows the likes of Sakho are going to lose every sodding header then he might insist on coming himself or he might hold back because he knows he's going to have to deal with a shot, which just makes the keeper more tentative as well.

{Ed001's Note - what are you talking about? Migs played like this before we signed him, it is not a case of guessing, well you are guessing as you have clearly never watched him play, based on the fact you state he is one of the best shot stoppers around! Laughable comment that. He is crap at shot stopping, letting in easy shots on a very regular basis. That is the point, he should not be first choice, if Ward is worse, then he should never have got this far with our club. If he is as good, then he should be starting as Migs is costing us points on an almost weekly basis.}

6.) 17 Feb 2016 17:17:16
he never makes important saves like de gea, courtois and cech do. also the 1st shot on target from the opposition goes in no matter how poor that shot is, it dosent breed confidence for the defenders knowing that is likely to happen. The best thing all round for him and us is a parting of the ways.

{Ed001's Note - Liverpool have conceded the second least shots on target this season, Migs is meant to be a good shot stopper, so why is our goals against record so poor?}

7.) 17 Feb 2016 18:37:15
summed up perfectly ed. you can't expect to challenge for major honours when you have a crap goalkeeper. I put him in the same bracket as boruc and gomes mannone etc that's how bad he is.

{Ed001's Note - at least those 3 have good days.}

8.) 17 Feb 2016 18:56:28
that just makes it worse ed! it just shows how bad he is.

If Phil's deal is done on Friday, no other player from Barcelona can be coming the other way because our window is shut, so we cannot register any new players right? Do I understand our window "rules" correctly?

{Ed002's Note - You do.}

We would wait because if we were the only ones bidding there is a good chance Southampton will report us to be investigated. If they accept other bids, then they cannot say they want wanted to keep VVD. They want to sell him and as long as we bid in line with other clubs, it would be harder for them to have us investigated.

HX none of us thought Phil would be as good as he is now when he first signed for us. So let's not assume Meyer cannot get to that level or be a player who can contribute successfully to the team.

Its important to develop as a player in the first team, so a loan is great as long as he gets consistent game time. It's up to him to show he is good enough to be in the match day squads.

In no particular order:

Robbie - simply the best and cheekiest
Gerrard - what else to say?
Macca - his runs
Grobellar - nuts!
Riise - power left foot.

On the one hand you say you would partially agree with loaning out youths if it was like Chelsea;s approach, but immediately in the next sentence note that in recent years only Coutois and Christiansen has made it into their first team out of 100 loans.
Clearly Chelsea's system is not working for Chelsea even if it works out for the other teams who buy their players.

Well until a few days ago we could have had VVD and Couts in the starting line up AND Mane as well so.

Whether there ws contact should not matter. Either it is consistently a red or a yellow. So it one was smart enough to move his head out of the way of a 5 ft high football boot, then the challenge is ok? While another is dumb enough to go into the boot hard, it is a red?

Sahin couldn't walk into a weaker squad a couple of years back, what makes you think he can walking into this squad? Klopp had an oppotunity to buy Gotze and he did not, so what makes you think he can walk in now?
