Eds002 just a quick question. Teun Koopmeiners seems to be linked with us. just lazy journalism or something in it? Bit strange as we're stocked with attack minded midfielders. ??.

{Ed002's Note - He is a effectively a DM/CM player - an alternative to someone like Thuram or KOne.}

1.) 24 Jan 2024 12:11:53
Cheers Ed’s. maybe we are looking at him then. ? Ed’s do you think we’re looking for the summer or January? I’d like to think we’re looking pretty good at tho moment and the summer would be my guess as we will be offloading a few hopefully ?? thanks for the response as always much appreciated ?.

{Ed002's Note - See other responses please.}

2.) 24 Jan 2024 12:44:26
If those are our options, Koopmeiners should be the one we're going for. He's more versatile than Thuram, sturdier than Kone, and has a wonderful left peg. He can also bang them in from distance, so with him and Szobo we'll always be a threat from midfield.

{Ed002's Note - They are not the only options.}

3.) 24 Jan 2024 14:27:11
Think we have enough with his profile already. Not sure he meets the speed threshold for a Klopp player either.

09 Jan 2024 07:53:23
Hi eds002 just a quick question. I know that klopp likes sane but have you heard anything regarding our interest in pedro Neto? Seems to be the new name doing the rounds at the minute.

{Ed002's Note - Pedro Neto (RW/LW) Versatile and looking to move on. Agent has been approached by Manchester United, who will need an Antony replacement, and Arsenal. Agent has also approached Liverpool. It is unclear why Arsenal are so keen and they clearly have other priorities, but they are. Juventus fear losing young left-footed RW in Matias Soule and may look to Neto. May be wanted in the Middle East which would push his value up. I would expect Wolves to perhaps £50M for him.}

1.) 09 Jan 2024 09:48:01
Cheers pal ? maybe there’s something in the rumours then. seems injury prone. when fit he’s a player in fairness.

2.) 09 Jan 2024 09:51:38
If the x3 right wingers were looking at to replace salah are sane/ olise/ / Neto. who would you and fellow posters choose? I’d probably choose olise myself but wouldn’t be disappointed with any of them.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any "list of three".}

3.) 09 Jan 2024 12:52:42
Is Marcus Edwards on the list?

{Ed002's Note - Marcus Edwards (RW/AM) Spurs would like to resign the player they let leave for Guimaraes and there is interest from West Ham, but that will go nowhere. Discussed with Chelsea on an informal basis and on the list of RW/AM players Chelsea need - previously headed by Michael Olise. Could prove a suitable Salah replacement for Liverpool but Sporting will have no interest in dealing with Liverpool. Sporting has no interest in selling and would demand his full release clause in a single payment.}

4.) 09 Jan 2024 13:31:55
If neto could sort his injury problems he would be my 1st pick.

5.) 09 Jan 2024 13:38:07
Neto 100% most su8table talent wise. Injuries would be a serious concern.

6.) 09 Jan 2024 18:41:27
Olise for me.

7.) 09 Jan 2024 21:52:44
Neto would be excellent if not for the injuries.

8.) 11 Jan 2024 20:49:26
Sane fought with Mane. I cannot imagine a person who can make Mane so mad he had to punch him. And Mane never had problems in Liverpool

Got a feeling Sane is not easy to work with.

9.) 11 Jan 2024 22:44:04
I wasn't aware that Juve were willing to let Soule leave. Is he likely to go Ed002? Him and Yildiz look like great prospects for Juve.

Soule seems to be making waves out on loan and doing very well. Sort of wish we were one of the interested parties if an exit is on the cards.

(I'll ask on the European pages about his possible destinations)

{Ed002's Note - Juventus will look to keep him, particularly with the interest in Iling Junior.}

28 Dec 2023 14:19:24
Rafael leao eds002 have you heard anything regarding a swap plus cash offer including Diaz? Few whispers flying around that we are interested in him. I've only seen him a couple of times and he looks very good going forward but not to good at tracking back? Hope you've all had a wonderful xmas and thanks for the time and effort you Ed's put into this site as it's very much appreciated. ??.

{Ed002's Note - Rafael Leao (LW) Right footed left winger Leao signed a new contract in the summer after serious interest was shown earlier in the year by Bayern Munich and Manchester City. The interest of Chelsea went with the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk and even though they are still looking for another player they have a far preferred option. I cannot see the player moving to Newcastle who enquired in the summer but PSG have sent scouts and he might yet be an option to replace Mbappe. He could also be an option for Real Madrid as they clear the decks - but they would look to including a player in a deal which will cost at least €120M and it would mean Mbappe moving elsewhere. I am not aware of Liverpool making any approach and they have four right footed players who can play on the left side of attack - and they need a left footed right sided forward. As suvh it would make little sense and costs a great deal of money.}

1.) 28 Dec 2023 14:50:01
I'm not one for slating players but I do think thar Diaz hasn't progressed as well as I thought he might. If someone puts up the ££s then I'd move him on and stick Gakpo out on the left, it's his best position after all!

2.) 28 Dec 2023 15:21:08
Ok thanks for the reply Ed’s like I said much appreciated ?? . I see klopp has come out and said that the player he likes best is Jarrod Bowen . surely he’s putting the feelers out as a salah replacement… I’d be chuffed with Bowen I must say but I think he’s just signed a new contract. you know of a release clause in there eds002? I remember you saying that he would be very expensive.

{Ed002's Note - Bowen has signed a new contract and West Ham would demand a huge fee. The primary target remains the same.}

3.) 28 Dec 2023 20:17:49
I'm in agreement w Diaz. Has his moments but a streaky player for me. Works hard no doubt about that. Cody looked much better on the left last game.

4.) 28 Dec 2023 21:15:06
I'm not in agreement with Diaz. I think ye are judging him at a bad time. I don't think you understand at all how traumatic events can drain you. Yes, thankfully it all worked out but that does not mean you immediately take off again. I just think you have no clue. But thankfully you don't.

I think he is our best LW when he has a clear head. The knee injury and this event halted him but he ll take off again.

Super important player. We would be nuts to sell him.

5.) 28 Dec 2023 21:38:33
We’d be even more nuts to follow up interest in our primary target (Sane) .

6.) 28 Dec 2023 23:00:23
I don't know about nuts but Sane would not be my first choice either. Decent enough player, pacy and left footed but a bit injury prone and also I don't think he gives the same dynamic that Salah does. Not just in terms of goals but he is not a player that runs in behind either. To be honest, it's just so hard to find a Salah replacement if we do cash in. I already know we ain't getting anyone of Salah's prime ability. That's not what I'm expecting. But I can't really think of a player that offers a similar type. I'm no player database though.

7.) 28 Dec 2023 23:37:58
Fabrizio Romano is a con man - I doubt that LFC would be looking to tweak the attack and agree Diaz has not been at his best but he gets a pass from me as he had that long term injury and then those personal issues with his family.

I expect Diaz and Salah to be in the squad at the start of the 25/ 26 season.

8.) 29 Dec 2023 00:08:59
Davey, Sane makes no sense for loads of reasons to me too. His age counts against him, he’ll be 28 in January and as a player relies almost entirely on pace he’s well on his way on the downward curve, doesn’t score loads, doesn’t create loads (for context he’s playing for the dominant team in a weaker league), he’s probably got two good years left in him at best which is absolutely no value given that Bayern would want stupid money for him. He’s hardly set the world alight at any point in his career and at his age he’s not getting any better, he’s already rejected us twice and said publicly he’s got no interest in playing for us as he’s too connected to City. We should move along and let some other fool make a multi million pound mistake.

9.) 29 Dec 2023 00:15:44
I have to agree with you Davey, Diaz is a really important player for us both offensively and defensively.

Let’s not forget he replaced Mane whilst Mane was still here. Signing Diaz meant Mane was pushed into the middle for the second half of his last season with us.

We missed him massively last season and would be playing champions league football if he hadn’t got injured.

He started the season on fire and I expected him to have a great season but I can only imagine that what happened to him and his family makes you realign your priorities.

He’ll be back to his best soon enough we just need to stick by him. That being said if he wants to leave and maybe enjoy time with his family in a warmer climate I’d wish him all the best. That’s the only reason we should consider selling him though he’s too good to let him go for football reasons.

10.) 29 Dec 2023 01:59:28
Leao is an excellent player but hard to see where he fits without a few outgoings. Would be a big upgrade on the left sided position tho despite the fact I really like Diaz.

11.) 29 Dec 2023 08:51:02
I think Diaz is better than leao myself Seano. At least what I ve seen of Leao which is probably only 5/ 6 games.

12.) 29 Dec 2023 20:33:05
Some fans have very short memories. Diaz was injured for much of last season. He’s had around 2 months of football and then has parents were kidnapped. Have some patience with the lad.

05 Dec 2023 09:50:44
Hi ed002 just a quick question regarding Thuram. There's a lot of links saying we're in talks with Nice about him. I thought we'd moved on from him since we've signed gravenberch as I've been led to believe they're very similar in playing style's?
Me personally I'd like Endo and young Baj given the opportunity to stake their claims for the holding midfield slot.
Also if salah was to leave which is looking very likely in the summer do you think we would look to Jarrod Bowen as a replacement? I know klopp is keen on sane but I'd like to see Bowen added personally and he helps with the home grown issues ???.

{Ed002's Note - Khephren Thuram (DM/CM) Nice felt they were messed around by clubs in the summer and then the player picked up an injury. Interest of Spurs, Liverpool and, in particular, Juventus remains but Liverpool will likely focus on a preferred DM option but will turn back to him if unsuccessful. Interest of Newcastle will likely fall away. If interest further grows his price will rise and the club would sell given the emergence of Alexis Beka Beka and an impressive youngster in Reda Belahyane. Nice do not want to sell and again a move to OLd Trafford will not be welcomed by the Nice supporters. Real Madrid have him on a list of potential additions given they are facing midfield departures in the summer - and I would not rule them, or indeed Manchester City, out. Player wants PSG but they have no interest at this time - but his representative is pushing PSG as well as Real Madrid and will encourage the player to wait out the year and see what happens.

Bowen signed a new contract so it would be very unlikely and he would be very expensive. There are much preferred options.}

1.) 05 Dec 2023 10:40:18
Cheers for the reply Ed’s . ?? hope you have a great week bud ?.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks and you have a nifty one.}

2.) 05 Dec 2023 10:42:03
Our preferred option for defensive midfielder seems to be Andre then I take it? ?.

{Ed002's Note - He would be first choice but there is interest from elsewhere plus the person handling the transfers for Liverpool has caused a little hiccup. Something can still be done - but there are other options.}

3.) 05 Dec 2023 11:02:51
Thank you Ed’s ??.

4.) 05 Dec 2023 21:22:52
What makes it look very likely as though Salah is off in the summer?
Apparently he's been leaving every summer since he signed for us.

5.) 05 Dec 2023 19:24:42
ED2.why Liverpool scouts always end up screwing our transfer prospects?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware that they have.}

6.) 06 Dec 2023 08:25:54
So the transfers of Gravenberch, Soboslai, Endo an MacAlister didn't happen then?

7.) 06 Dec 2023 13:21:59
Cheers, Ed.

20 Nov 2023 20:07:20
Hi ed002 hope you're well. Just a quick question. do you know if Barcelona are interested in Diaz? There seems to be several reports saying that a swap deal is being mooted for either raphinha or de Jong . raphinha seems a strange one as he plays on the opposite flank. unless he could possibly be a mo salah replacement if he follows the riches in Dubai.

{Ed002's Note - Luiz Dias (LW) Could be surplus. His agent already has one player in the Saudi league and has been offering another high profile player he has - so he may well be looking at Diaz as well given Liverpool are welk stocked in the position. Al-Hillal may offer a solution. Liverpool could look to a deal with Barcelona if they are serious about Raphina.

1.) 20 Nov 2023 21:56:22
Would never read to much into reports of moves during an international break. A lot of the footballing public have no interest in international football anymore so media have to create stories of transfer to get publics interest.
Always reports of a player r players family saying something about moving and it nearly always taken out of context or complete rubbish.

2.) 20 Nov 2023 22:02:04
Maybe some legs to it then Ed’s. but you very rarely see any swap deals being made ??‍♂️??‍♂️ I know we’re well stocked on the left side so would probably be a smart move to have a quality right sided winger to challenge mo… I’m sure we was in for raphinha when he was at Leeds .

3.) 21 Nov 2023 00:13:14
Who is our other top left winger that is better than Diaz? I certainly can’t think of one.

We are a completely different team when he plays it would be strange to sell him now. Unless of course he wants to leave, in that case send him on his way and get someone else in.

I love Diaz but nobody is irreplaceable.

4.) 21 Nov 2023 00:42:54
Good quality rumour. We're definitely better stocked on the left than the right so could make sense to make a trade and even it out. Sad as I would be to see Diaz go, as he can change a game (ref: Luton) .

Can't see Mo wanting to job share and tho and can't see Raph playing back-up so it would have to be a replacement if Mo were to go. Obviously Mo is 'irreplaceable' but realistically, Raph is the kind of caliber I'd be happy with.

5.) 21 Nov 2023 01:48:41
BP - Nunez can play of the left. But he's better central. But Jota and Gakpo who can both play on the left too. Diaz is the best of the three, I agree, but leaving both Jota and Gakpo on the bench is a waste. If Barce would swap either of those for Raph then that would be the ideal but they won't so.

6.) 21 Nov 2023 07:11:36
Hope not, never really rated Raphina. Couple of half decent games and that's it. I actually think Diaz could do better if im honest. Good player but he's hardly set the world on fire with us has he?

7.) 21 Nov 2023 07:36:15
Only way I am happy with this situation is if Diaz swap wit raphinha and we use the salah money to fund mbappe . But when I last checked carlsberg don’t do transfer windows ?

Be a frightening front 3 with mbappe Nunez raphinha

Cheered me up the thought of this but a Liverpool team with no salah is no fun either.

8.) 21 Nov 2023 07:37:51
Apparently the club are not interested in selling - like they said about Mo in the last window.

9.) 21 Nov 2023 11:22:44
our starting leftwinger for a Barcelona flop! no thank you.

10.) 21 Nov 2023 11:59:04
Not sure why we're talking about Luis Diaz leaving. He's our best left winger and now he's fit and the terrible ordeal for his family is over, he's about to explode (in a good way) .

Let him get to work, starting with City.

11.) 21 Nov 2023 17:04:13
Not taking away from his family's dreadful recent hardship the fella has practically done nothing for the team.
Don't get me wrong a brilliant baller but the end product is way too inconsistent.
Ideally a player with similar style of play but with the goals would be Ideal.

12.) 21 Nov 2023 20:17:36
@FPF, it came from an interview with Luis’s dad. Something along the lines of Luis being a fan of their’s. A bit like us reading about Gvardiol being a Liverpool fan last year. Basically a slow news day.

13.) 21 Nov 2023 20:24:59
Whats this "well stocked on left" nonsense? In this age modern football, are you seriously talking about left legged player being restricted to play on left wing? C'mon, we have seen enough inverted wingers, we have seen Salah who has converted from left winger to centre forward. Diaz is one best ehen team go forward to attack, we should keep him! Raphina time has passed. let's go younger high ceiling like Musiala, Wirtz, Xavi Simons.

14.) 22 Nov 2023 02:45:46
@Lee watch out for Trent Kone-Doherty. Him on the left and Doak on the right. They’ll literally save us millions.

15.) 22 Nov 2023 09:32:13
Both excellent WDW, even if they became squad players they would save us a fortune.

16.) 22 Nov 2023 14:22:12
@WDW with Trent Kone-Doherty and Doak, both wingers bombing down flanks, we can afford to rest our 1rs team players and coast through initital rounds of Cup games.

17.) 22 Nov 2023 23:30:24
I haven’t seen anything of Raphinha since joining barce but the lad was exceptional at Leeds.

Salah is irreplaceable no doubt but Raphinha woukd be an excellent addition when does inevitably leave.

18.) 27 Nov 2023 21:24:38
Nunez should be nowhere near any wide position except him drifting ovzer there during games.

19.) 28 Nov 2023 07:33:05
@Bmena, nobody’s irreplaceable. All things must pass. The thing is we shouldn’t be looking for the next MomSalah, we should be looking towards the first Ben Doak or Kaide Gordon - someone at the start of their journey who can become our next legend.

Hi ed001 hope you're doing well. just got to say and put it out there that I wasn't really impressed with us signing gravenberch . but I i've been so impressed by what I've seen from him he really looks like a hell of signing. what's you're opinion on him Ed's with the little cameos we've seen so far? Also thought Endo looked good as the holding midfielder and surely needs a run of games and move Mac where he tends to do his best a bit further forward.

{Ed001's Note - he is looking better and better, doing the things he was criticised for not doing at Bayern as well. So it is very promising. It was never so much ability that was his issue, it was effort, he did tend to fall asleep defensively in the past. So long as he maintains this workrate, he will be an excellent signing.

I think Endo deserves a run of games and Mac Allister defo needs a break from the deep role as he is clearly struggling there mentally.}

1.) 27 Oct 2023 10:30:45
For me Ed1, he just seems like a player that want to play football and didn't get much chances at Bayern. Seems like a good fit for our squad personality wise also. I remember reading peoples questioning his attitude because of what happen in Bayern. So far, that doesn't seem to be true at all.

Regarding this deep role Ed1, do you feel that Klopp is thinking that having 3 midfielder with high work rate can compensate not having a true DM in our first eleven? When looking at other top side, most have a class DM in their starting lineup like Rodri and Tchouameni.

{Ed001's Note - it is also the thinking that the inverted full back partly fills the role too.}

2.) 27 Oct 2023 14:06:53
In any job you always want to impress the boss when you’re new. I hope he keeps up this level of effort when he’s fully settled.
Early days I know but it does look as if Klopps pulled another one out of the hat doesn’t it.

30 Jun 2023 22:38:45
Ally
Trent
Konate
Vvd
Robbo
Thuram
Szoboszlai
Mac alli
Diaz
Gakpo
Salah
Not looking too shabby if we get that midfield over the line. I for one will be one happy scouser ??.

1.) 01 Jul 2023 00:10:33
With candidates for the bench owing

Kelleher
Adrian

Bradley
New CB
Matip
Gomez
Tsimi

Hendo
Thiago
Fabs
Baj
Harvey
Curtis

Jota
Nunez

That would give us 26 players for a 25 man PL squad but I guess certainly Baj and perhaps Harvey don’t count because of their age?

2.) 01 Jul 2023 00:30:55
Honestly I think we should open talks with David De Gea just to put a bit of panic into Utd.

3.) 01 Jul 2023 01:15:40
WDW the 23-24 u21 rules are anyone born on/ after 1 Jan 2002 so Baj, Harvey and Conor Bradley all count as u21.

4.) 01 Jul 2023 02:26:05
With two players coming in (if Szoboszlai is confirmed) and another two more that are "desirable" (Thuram and a left sided CB), I can't see how that bench will stay that way, cited above. I don't see LFC buying 4 players and having no funds coming in through no sales. Granted salaries are reduced due to expired contracts and departures, but still.

Maybe I've been reading the "we're a sell to buy club" shrieking so often, that I've started to believe it. ?.

5.) 01 Jul 2023 06:41:30
Is it possible that Szoboszlai is a Salah replacement if he heads to Saudi? We are so stacked up front we’d make Pamela Anderson envious. I just don’t see how Nunez, Gakpo, Diaz, Salah, Jota, etc, all get enough game time to stay happy. They would all have expectations of being in the first eleven 9 times out of 10.

07 Jun 2023 13:48:11
If we were to get kone, Thuram and alexi, then it would be like going back to our best midfield three under klopp as with fabs, hendo and wini.
This would make us hard to break down and give more protection to our defence, or am I totally way off? ??‍♂️.

1.) 07 Jun 2023 14:18:39
No you're spot on. It seems like a perfectly balanced midfield as well

Considering I thought we would be heading into the new season with Mount and Matheus Nunes, I am absolutely delighted.

2.) 07 Jun 2023 14:31:10
Pretty close, OP. Alex Mac is a midfielder we have never had under Klopp, IMO. He is just unique in his versatility and the multiple things he can do. Some may not be excited about his arrival cos he they were expecting Jude and that's fair.

Me, Im just happy we are getting an absolute boss player who we essentially STOLE from Brighton cos Im aware of how much we could have paid for him. Exciting times, ideed.

3.) 07 Jun 2023 14:35:02
I do actually think we probably need 3 CMs, 2 starters and 1 to rotate with Jones, Thiago. Hendo then coming off the bench and Fab phased out and sold next season. Can see us ending up with 2 but if so we will need another 2 next season imo.

4.) 07 Jun 2023 14:41:23
If we get Kone or Thuram, the concensus seems to be one or the other. But even two of Kone, Thuram and Mac Allister would be great. I still think a versatile third may arrive though.

If I was greedy, I would want a CB to replace matip and then replace any further leavers (I am not including the likes of Milly, Keita etc), if our summer looks like that I don't think we can have any complaints.

5.) 07 Jun 2023 15:03:22
Would be nice to see them play for Liverpool before we compare them to a 3 that won us the lot.

I’m excited about the potential of them but also on the other hand we’ve only signed 1 of the 3 so far and I was excited about signing Naby as well.

6.) 07 Jun 2023 15:09:25
I think Kone is more defensive, whereas Thuram is seen as box to box. Both would make sense in that case, particularly if they’re as affordable as is being made out.

7.) 07 Jun 2023 17:54:46
Not for me. That was some team we had in 2018.
Compared to the midfield now though, it’s streets ahead!
Styles differ because Mac Alister should add more goals and assists that Gini, Hendo n Fab.
But Fab more defensively sound than all 3, Hendo a better leader than all 3, and Ginis availability was absolutely stupid. Never ever injured. Like a Terminator that guy.

8.) 07 Jun 2023 18:15:34
Correct Woolback, Thuram is ( or has primarily played) as a left sided 8 this season. Spent very little time in a traditional CDM role.

9.) 07 Jun 2023 16:56:45
We haven’t STOLE anyone until we see how they play with a Liverpool shirt on.

10.) 07 Jun 2023 19:09:34
Brighton must have not known about the 35 mill clause they put into his contract for us to have stolen him.

11.) 07 Jun 2023 20:07:40
Thuram apparently available for 35m. If we are serious about him there can't be any problems snapping him up at that price.

12.) 08 Jun 2023 12:50:46
It's a cdm i'd like tbh - is Kone or Thuram a cdm?

The MacAllister deal looks a steal - if we could add a cb, i'd be delighted with this window. Think we need to sell Matip, i think Phillips could go as well.

02 Jun 2023 17:32:07
I read it's either one or the other in regards to kone and thuram that we might sign. There's lots of reports suggesting we're in for both and Mac Allister. or is it just reporters talking nonsense?

Personally, I think we could do with x3 midfielders as Fabinho and Henderson been poor this season and Thiago injury record is very poor. Only saving grace from this season was the way bajectic performed and hopefully got a massive future with us.,

1.) 02 Jun 2023 18:41:54
We'd need to move some on first then if that's your thinking.
Surely with Trent, Curtis and Elliott, 2 should be sufficient.
If Thiago does stay fit then well, that would be huge.

2.) 02 Jun 2023 19:12:10
Why on earth would we buy both? They are both defensive midfielders with Kone being the more defensive-minded of the two. I want Bajcetic to prosper and he needs game-time to do that. Of the two I'd have Thuram.

3.) 02 Jun 2023 21:09:08
If Thiago stays fit ?.

4.) 02 Jun 2023 21:21:02
Even if Thiago stays fit his contract expires in a years time, at which time Fabinho will be 30 and Hendo 33. Have we learned nothing from this season? We need to start planning for the future and if the right players are available now we should be buying them. I would be looking to buy 3 midfielders this summer and possibly selling either Thiago or Fabinho, being in the Europa League will mean plenty of game time for everyone.

5.) 02 Jun 2023 21:44:14
Agree with Thunderbird. We need three midfielders should look to move on either Fabinho or Thiago. Thuram, Kone and MacAllister look like shrewd signings.

6.) 02 Jun 2023 21:45:24
Kone and Thuram should both come in, Fabinho should leave, Thiago should see out his contract, should be plenty of minutes for everyone. Emphasis on the repetition of ‘should’.

7.) 02 Jun 2023 21:33:26
It’s strange how we’ve switched attentions from Mount to Kone and Thuram.

Completely different profile players. Perhaps Jones end of season form has convinced Klopp that the further playing forward midfielders are not as much a priority now.

{Ed025's Note - if thats the case JK then maybe there is a case for klopp to move on mate..

8.) 02 Jun 2023 22:50:42
Ed0025 I’m hoping we’re still looking at midfielders that can offer goals and assists. Jones finished the season well and it was nice to see but i agree and hope not that all our eggs are in that one basket now because of it.

{Ed025's Note - Jones had half a dozen good games at the backend of the season JK, now was that the case that he had been overlooked or that basically anyone would have looked decent in that midfield?, im not sure but i dont see him as the next coming who will solve the midfield problem mate, maybe as a back up to who you bring in would be my guess...possibly the new ox?..

9.) 02 Jun 2023 23:39:06
It's almost as if it's just rumours and nobody knows for sure.
Apart from the ITKs of course.

10.) 03 Jun 2023 00:21:59
It’s nice to see that Jones is slowly becoming Curtis - if he carries on his form into the new season until, say, Christmas we can all start telling each other how we all knew he was always a class player.

11.) 03 Jun 2023 02:45:59
So with Trent, Mac Alister, Kone or Thuram, Gravenberch, Rabiot, Henderson, Fabinho, Jones, Thiago, Bajcetic, Elliot, Morton and Clarkson does everybody think we’ll have enough coverage in midfield next season?

12.) 03 Jun 2023 05:59:53
I agree with Ed 25,concerning Jones, the formation we played in the final quarter of the season suited his skill set and he was able to show what he can do played further forward, but there were times in them games when we didn't have the ball when his defensive frailties came to the front.
Robbo staying back ment that Curtis was the one who could come into the space on the left hand side of the box and actually finish the chances that Robbo kept missing.
Curtis, Trent and Harvey are all square pegs In round holes for me, they have bags of quality going forward but all lack that defensive awareness.
Will the new system work going forward, or will teams figure out that all they have to do is park someone out on the left hand side and when Trent forgets he has 2 jobs to do, they will have a free area to run in to, just like Spurs second half Villa and Southampton all figured out and ran through us.
Me I think Kone and Thuram together in a 2 brings power and pace to that midfield that we have lacked this season. I think Jones and Elliot can still do a job for us in the cup games, but we miss Fab and Hendo in their prime and to be honest I think they are both done.

{Ed025's Note - jones is a decent back up WW but i dont see him as a regular starter mate, dont get me wrong i like to see young players come good but over loyalty to players has been a problem for liverpool mate and sometimes you just have to cut the apron strings..

13.) 03 Jun 2023 06:26:15
I like trusting our own players and Jones deserves more time. I’d prefer Thuram but don’t think we should go for both him and Kone. That’s the over sized squad padding that’s messed up our payroll and ability to manoeuvre in the market when we’ve needed to.

{Ed025's Note - but you dont have to over size the squad faith, you bring new players in and you ship out the lesser lights, its not about quantity mate its about quality and sentimentality has no place in football if you want to challenge for trophies..

14.) 03 Jun 2023 06:36:52
If they're all on the pitch at the same time.

15.) 03 Jun 2023 07:36:51
Ed025 I don’t know why your are so harsh on Jones he as only just turned 22 had lots of niggling injuries learning a new position as was more a left sided attacker as a youth player.
I think if he stays fit next season will be a massive season for him for one his biggest problem was he all ways seemed to one to take too many touches but he seemed a lot better at that in that run of games he had.
I think he had far more natural ability than Henderson and he has not been to bad for us.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think im being harsh Grino, hes a decent player but you dont win titles with decent players mate, over loyalty has been a problem for liverpool imo and this could be just another case, keep him as a squad player but invest in better quality is all im saying..

16.) 03 Jun 2023 08:58:38
WDW your mid looks a little light to me ?.

17.) 03 Jun 2023 10:39:22
Jones will become our very own Jesse lingaard.

18.) 03 Jun 2023 11:45:19
Liverpool won the PL and CL with “decent” midfielders. Hendo, Fabinho and Gini are far from the World class bracket. They did work tirelessly to a system that suited our style tho.

19.) 03 Jun 2023 12:45:29
Harsh on Fabinho Irish, he was easily the best defensive midfielder in the premier league 3/ 4 seasons ago. I reckon he Was world class mate.
Only Kimmich and Casemiro on that level at that time, I’m sure you’ll agree though it’s a massive shame how we Ran him into the ground with no help in there.

20.) 03 Jun 2023 18:11:05
That’s rubbish Irish go back and re watch the PL campaign Hendo was the best midfielder in the league that seasSon bar none. Deservedly won the player of the year.

Obviously if we are to win the PL at least two of the midfielders are going to have to have exceptional seasons and no matter how much you hope and pray Jones is not at that level.

21.) 03 Jun 2023 11:33:56
Completely agree Ed, Jones currently shouldn’t be starting for us. I have a soft spot for him given he’s scouser and just loves the club!

We should have better quality players starting, if Jones thinks he’s good enough then he can compete with them then it’s up to him to prove it.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think its fair on Curtis to ask him to be one of the leading lights in midfield SR, a couple of bad games and the crowd will turn on him i expect, maybe keep him as a back up because he is still young and learning his trade mate, its a big ask to rely on him at this point imo..

Any information regarding Khephren Thuram and kone? Have we begun talks like the rags are saying?

1.) 31 May 2023 20:09:07
Yes, they are taking a Eurostar to Kings Cross next week and will be visiting my house first. I shall tell them about the grand project and then the plan is to drive them to anfield. Hope everything goes fine. But, I feel the contract should be signed by 8th June, 5.29 pm latest.

2.) 31 May 2023 20:28:02
I know very little about these 2 players but don’t they both play DM?

3.) 31 May 2023 21:34:23
Wait and see, OP. Keep in mind that except when Klopp starts talking about players he like in the media (cough tapping them up cough), we do not do our business in the media. So let's wait and see.

4.) 31 May 2023 21:48:32
I've not seen them play before mark but read up a lot on them, watched highlights and looked at how their stats compare. Kone looks to be more of a box to box pressing machine. He makes more tackles and more blocks. Thuram seems to be more of a sitter. He makes more interceptions and wins more headers. I can't say i am excited for either of them having not seen them but on paper they fit what we need.

5.) 31 May 2023 22:03:25
I thought that as well MK when reading up on them. I am all for going back to full throttle pressing and if they do that job, then great.

6.) 31 May 2023 22:22:36
My sources are telling me, We haven’t declared an interest in the players mentioned.
But Klopp has spoken with their Dads, their Grandmas, their childhood girlfriends, and a bloke who once queued up behind them at Disneyland.

7.) 31 May 2023 22:24:59
Unless ed2 confirms anything I won’t believe it.

8.) 31 May 2023 22:59:09
LFC8, it was actually the bloke at the kiosk at Disneyland.

At least get the facts right, !

9.) 31 May 2023 23:29:45
Didier Digard talking about Thuram "Khephren's fantastic, " he said to RMC Sport. "He's very hardworking, very attentive. On rest days he's at the training centre. He recovers quickly for back-to-back matches and completes high-intensity training.

“He listens and applies himself. He has room for improvement and he's in demand. He simply eats up video analysis, additional sessions. He also advises others, because he takes on a leadership role. He's also discovering himself as a person.

"He's already in the France team, but I'm convinced that he'll have a very big career. But there must still be a little bit in Nice to go to continue his progress. "

Sounds like a similar profile/ character to Gakpo and the sort of player we would be interested in.

10.) 01 Jun 2023 00:36:12
I watch a fair bit of German football. Mainly Dortmund but also the comedy defending from most of the teams.
Kone is quality and his break up play will be great for us. Means we can start the transition to attack and be up the other end of the pitch quickly (just like old Klopp's heavy metal football) . He is also rapid and is like a Jack Russell going after the ball. Somehow he manages to get a foot in and win the ball. Probably means Fabinho won't play as often.

11.) 01 Jun 2023 05:33:14
@MK, I’m always wary of stats. A certain Margaret Hilda Thatcher was the country’s longest serving Prime Minister of the 20th century but I could probably put together an argument that she wasn’t perhaps the best. I’d also presume that somebody within the club looked at Naby’s stats (our very own version of Johnny McGurk) when he was playing in Germany.

{Ed001's Note - just remember Brentford only reached the Premier League after moving away from a stats-only recruitment model to revert back to using scouts to decide which players to sign. They still use stats to help identify players to look at though.}

12.) 01 Jun 2023 08:26:03
Stats are an invaluable tool, but they should always be used in conjunction with what the eye sees.
Always be dubious about someone who continuously spouts stats. It generally means they know sod all else.

13.) 01 Jun 2023 11:30:37
For once Flash, i actually agree with you. Stats without context can just be misleading. Hence why I'm not excited by Kone or Thuram. Their stats look good and you can gather a little about what type of players they are, but having not seen them play other than on YouTube (where typically it's a players best bits that get shown) i find it hard to be hyped up about them or judge how good they are as players. Whenever i've listed who i wanted to sign I've always stuck to players like Neves, MacAllister and Rabiot because I've seen a lot of them. Like most on here I watch a lot of Premier League and Champions League games to see players like that. Several posters on here do tend to throw names into the ring like Kone and Thuram but when I've asked anybody who has watched them regular to come forward with an opinion on them as players, nobodies responded. Which is strange given the number of posters who've been listing them as perfect signings for us. Their stats on paper look like what we need, but football is played on grass.

14.) 01 Jun 2023 12:45:21
MKS without context, stats mean nothing to me personally cos there are a lot of important things that stats cannot and will never be able to measure, IMO. I use my own eyes and trust what I see and Im good with that. I can ask a second opinion just to confirm or get another perspective but that's it.

I do not mention players nor comment on players I have never seen play. That's just some crazy, lame stuff that I find pathetic cos there's no shame in saying you've never seen a player play.

15.) 01 Jun 2023 13:25:26
Same here Oli. I used to watch loads if football from all kinds of leagues and competitions but to be honest I just don't have time now with work and kids. So half the players we get linked with now I've never even seen play ?.

16.) 01 Jun 2023 17:55:10
I’m in the same boat as you, MKS.

17.) 01 Jun 2023 20:29:47

{Ed002's Note - See other responses please.}

If the x3 right wingers were looking at to replace salah are sane/ olise/ / Neto. who would you and fellow posters choose? I’d probably choose olise myself but wouldn’t be disappointed with any of them.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any "list of three".}

{Ed002's Note - Bowen has signed a new contract and West Ham would demand a huge fee. The primary target remains the same.}

Why do people keep going round and round about what happened? It’s corruption it’s so obvious it’s hard to believe that people can’t recognise it., I’ve watched the game x2 and it’s the most one sidedl game I’ve seen with x12 men for years and I’ve seen a few … This just stinks that these frauds controlling our games are getting away with this.? Check their bank accounts and partners accounts because something will be found I’m sure … lots of wrong doing goes on around different leagues which as come to fruition . but so many seem sceptical that it can’t occur in the most watched league and money spinning franchise around? Baffles me completely.

Thanks for the thoughts Ed’s. I forgot about ox.
what about Rabbiot Nunes and jus bel as a midfield 3? You like ???.

{Ed001's Note - I don't see the point in buying Nunes. When would Bajcetic get games then? And what about Morton? I am not even convinced Nunes makes sense at all. Be expensive in both transfer fees and wages, better to use the money to buy the defence we need.}

I like jones but just my opinion that Elliot and Fabio and doak are going to reach a higher level. and we would probably get a decent amount on a transfer for jones at present… also if we add players to strengthen the squad then people have to make way…. Like I said tho it’s only my opinion ?.
