Hi Ed002, thanks for all your input.

From what you say it almost seems like tapping is a systematic strategy employed by the club to drive prices down. If so then this is even worse than the manager bumbling along tapping one player after next of his own accord.

I understand we don't want to be too specific about LFC for libel reasons but are footy clubs historically known to use tapping systematically and if yes what's the biggest punishment they have received (if any)?

Or have I misunderstood totally and the decision to tap is made spontaneously for some other reason?

Thanks again!

{Ed002's Note - I don't think it is a club strategy. It was only one person who briefed a few choice members of the press.}

Eds 002 do you think klopp is in danger of losing his job over his tapping up antics?

{Ed002's Note - No but he is embarrassing the club and making things difficult for the owners.}

Who was that person?

{Ed002's Note - Klopp.}

We may as well pick up Mertens, Insigne, Gholam and Hamsik as well before going to the till.

Ox and Robbo have been fantastic, but I think we should wait until they have shown it consistently for 2 full seasons. This time last year we were ecstatic with Gini's signing, calling it a masterstroke etc. but we are frustrated by his inconsistency. In terms of talent, one could argue Gini and Can are better than Hendo, but we love Hendo because he hardly ever has a bad game. So hopefully Ox and Robbo will turn out to be more like the Mane signing than Gini.

Thanks Ed. Chelsea did seem to have more talented youngsters though. Clearly KDB, Lukaku etc were always going to be better than Ibe and Markovic. But LFC should get their loans system in order if top young talent like Woodburn are to progress.

{Ed002's Note - Markovic moved too soon - I made that clear at the time.}

Thanks Ed002 for the really insightful response.

While unconnected to LFC, if I may ask, why do Chelsea remain largely unable to produce first team players with a system as comprehensive as that? Is there a disconnect in the philosophy between development groups and first team, or is it just because of Abramovic's firing finger? And are there any other clubs who regularly churn out first teamers from a loan system?

{Ed002's Note - Courtois went through that process and is a regular. Christensen returned in the summer and is a regular. Moses had a few loans and is a regular, Ake went through it and is a regular for Bournemouth, Lukaku and De Bruyne went through the Chelsea set up and are doing ok now, plus Chelsea. Has a couple of squad players who have been through it. So it is perhaps not doubt too badly.}

Could it be that he sees his best position to be higher up the pitch where he did so well for Southampton but never excelled at Liverpool?

Just because he plays his heart out every time for Klopp doesn't mean he loves playing in that role. Also perhaps he's conscious that in mid thirties he won't be useful in his current role because it requires tonnes of stamina.

Coutinho never came across as a traitor to me, but perhaps mentally weak. While I can understand that performing in front of 55k is more mentally strenuous than ordinary people performing in daily jobs, a professional player should have the mental strength to keep their mind in the right place to be fully focussed to the cause. There seem to be an extreme sense of entitlement amongst footballers that somehow if their club does not honour their request to leave straightaway, somehow it renders their entire career pointless. We saw that mental strength in Suarez (however flawed as a character he may be) when he used his anguish to propel him to another level of performance. Same with De Gea and Ronaldo (when Utd refused to let them leave) .

I haven’t been this confused for a long time as I have been by this thread.

As a Muslim I can’t see how any Muslim may see this song as offensive. In fact it’s actually a wonderful thing when a (relatively) persecuted minority gets positive press due to some public role model. Muslims these days enjoy lots of respect and freedom in the west, and it’s very much down to positive role models such as Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, and more recently figures like Moeen Ali in cricket and Mesut Ozil in football who publicly express their religiosity. Muslims also nearly exclusively get negative press coverage these days, so it’s positive to see Mane and Salah being celebrated for their religion.

MK another thing I dislike about your song is that it’s putting a lot of pressure on Messi lol.

{Ed025's Note - well said hanif..

What a player! Hopefully he will realise that he's at the best club in the world with the best fans so won't even dream of leaving.

Saying the death threat has anything to do with Lovren's performance is totally out of order! Except of course if we say the support he got from the fans in response is what has spurred him on.
