Evening Eds, is Brandt still a target for the summer? Or all the talks about Lemar means the interest has gone?

Thanks.

d.liv

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps, but it is unrelated to Lemar. Keep in mind that Salah arrived in what was effective in place of Brandt. There is iunterest from elsewhere but he does remain a player Klopp likes.}

1.) 20 Jan 2018 19:52:19
Ed’s he’s a big fan of Emile Forsberg too, do you see him as a possibility in the summer.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

2.) 20 Jan 2018 23:15:57
I don’t think the club could be bothered with trying to deal with RB again, specially since we are already taking one of their best players in the summer there is no way in hell we'd try for 2 haha.

3.) 21 Jan 2018 06:38:19
If we do go back for a 2nd, I'd like it to be timo werner!

4.) 21 Jan 2018 15:44:43
Speaking of Lemar. Has the interest gone due to the price tag, or do you see him as a possibility in the summer? Just read that he would favor a move to BarcÄ… - Ofcource he would. Is this just Monaco making things up to push the price?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Thomas Lemar saying where he wants to move to. Right now his focus is on Monaco and as Emanalo has said tho not wish to sell right now. And that I pretty much where it is right now.}

Question, also for the Eds:
Do any of you know (whispers and such) / think that Klopp will test even more a back 3, not just towards the end of games we are winning, but as a starting formation?
It can help solving some dilemmas
-Gomez to CB
-3 CBs should provide more cover/ stability than a holding mid + 2 CBs
-Trent more advanced
-No holding mid, which seems the case anyway, to accommodate a box-to-box couple of Ox/ Keita/ Gini/ Milner/ Grujic.

d.liv

{Ed001's Note - no it does no such thing. It is a system that relies on specific types of players to make it work. It also leads to defenders abdicating responsibility as there is an extra body to cover. Why not just stick with the system that is working? Why would anyone want to change it? That was the mistake Souness made, he broke a winning formula.}

1.) 18 Apr 2018 16:39:50
Back three means you are dropping an attacker or a midfielder for a defender which is not happening under Klopp. 4-3-3 with two B2B midfielders in Kieta and AOC with Jorginho doing the playmaking!

2.) 18 Apr 2018 17:16:43
Harry you are going to be very disappointed in the summer!

3.) 18 Apr 2018 18:12:04
It'll be a new crush by then, Kovacic, anyone?

4.) 18 Apr 2018 20:27:52
Dreamer!

5.) 18 Apr 2018 22:30:27
OP, Ed is correct. A back 3 does not provide any cover whatsoever. In fact, it leaves the back line more exposed in the wide areas esp. if you don't have CB's capable of defending out wide in space. For a back 3 to be effective, you need the right personnel to play it and we don't have that. That may work on a game by game basis BUT why change something that works? 4-3-3 is perfect for us so why play a back 3 with no real reason behind it esp. if you don't have the personnel to do so? Makes no sense really.

6.) 19 Apr 2018 15:15:28
It is only done at the end of games we are winning where klopp sacrifices an attacker for a cb.

We do have players that could make it work though imo. Gomez on the right Vvd down the middle and Klavan on the left. I think our system works fine with 3 midfielders.

Evening Eds, is it so far from a possibility to see Gini play in the Henderson role?
He came and is tasked with a more offensive role but seemed underpar lately, and more able to regain possession instead.

d.liv

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea.}

1.) 25 Mar 2018 22:26:27
Gini is ok but he couldn't do that position in my opinion. You want someone who wants to get on the ball intelligently and he just doesn't do that enough for me.

Still support him and I hope I'm wrong.

2.) 25 Mar 2018 22:32:21
He played the number 6 role a few times this pre season but I’m unsure what the verdict was.

3.) 26 Mar 2018 02:39:32
Maybe playing that role will transform him. With more time and space on the ball perhaps he'll stop hiding and take charge of matches.

4.) 26 Mar 2018 03:15:39
I wouldn't mind gini playing a holding role. Reads the game better than hendo but doesn't quite have the technical ability and strength hendo has. Klopp should get a proper holding midfeilder, use gini as backup and move hendo into an attacking role.

Hello everyone, long time reader. Was going through the squad size for next season and I can't see space for all of Lemar/ Goretzka/ CDM

Firmino, Mané, Salah (Solanke, Lemar, Lallana)

Wijnaldum, Keita, CDM (Oxlade, Henderson, Goretzka)

Unlikely all 3 will come at these conditions. Is it possible that Klopp will play a mid-3 without a real Defensive Mid, but actually with someone in Keïta who is better than Coutinho at tracking back AND someone in Goretzka who can add more than Hendo going forward? 3 B2B

Thanks Eds and Reds.

1.) 04 Jan 2018 08:15:11
I don't think we will be getting goretzka - it will be Keita hendo lallana oxlade lallana and lemar can play their too if he comes.

2.) 04 Jan 2018 09:34:02
Yeah i was thinking this yesterday, our obsession with attacking midfielders under rodgers seems to have shifted to an obsession with box to box midfielders under klopp. Our midfield seriously lacks balance and a lot of questions remain to be answered.

Its accepted that Can, Coutinho and Milner will leave this season. For me chamberlain is milners replacement. Coutinho will hopefully be replaced with a like for like skillful midfielder. But for Can, i don't see the logic in bringing in another box to box midfielder to replace him when keita is comimg in. Is keita to replace Can? To replace Coutinho? For me Cans biggest issue was that he was a jack of all trades but master of none because nobody ever knew what his role was. Sure goretzka is probably better than him but will it not leave us with the same problems? And what does all this mean for henderson who continues to struggle for form and fitness? Has wijnaldum done enough to stay next season? Is lallana going to be phased out? The only player who looks nailed on for our midfield next season is the one who hasn't even arrived yet!

I just can't see goretzka joining us because it will effectively consign us to playing a double pivot of him and keita every game for balance, it would leave a lot of our players out in the cold. For me the absolute best choice is to buy someone who has experience in the premier league, is defensively minded and has far more experience at the top level than Can. That player for me would be steven nzonzi:)

3.) 04 Jan 2018 10:19:33
If the focus is on more balance through a defensive mid i agree. Henderson maybe demoted to vice captain in the next 1/ 2 seasons and asked to be more of a squad player (ageing, injuries, not a natural defensive player) .

Much of the same about Lallana: Gini not at his best this season but Klopp did want him not so long ago, so he's starting; Oxlade could be powerfully/ bullishly putting himself in contention for both mid-3 and front-3. But Lallana more of a squad player, whether in mid-3 or front-3.

4.) 04 Jan 2018 11:08:28
Klopp well not bring in a dedicated defensive midfielder. It's counter to how he sets up his team. He wants a player who can control possession, launch attacks and cover when needed which is exactly what Hendo does.

Wasn't Macca asked to stay away from the website? Some Eds were angry at him for his winter transfer window behavior.

d.liv

{Ed025's Note - that never happened mate, macca is a valued source of information and a good friend of this site but like all of us if you get a prediction wrong some posters see you as the devil incarnate, things can change very quickly in football and clubs can change direction on players at the drop of a hat and then its seen as misinformation, we have some great contributors to this site with the likes of ED001 and ED002 leading the team and all information we provide is given in good faith..
