Fee for Van Dijk agreed - 75 million.

23 Dec 2017 21:56:33
Reports tonight suggesting we've made a breakthrough in our pursuit of VVD and are willing to pay in the excess of 70 million .

christopher199

1.) 23 Dec 2017 22:05:15
I hope not, my word, if we spend that amount on him its just rediculous, he's been a plank this season, done nothing and dropped by Southampton. Is there any truth to this Ed2?

{Ed002's Note - I don’t know.}

2.) 23 Dec 2017 22:05:39
I hope not. Dropped from the saints side. Awful attitude of late too. We could get de vrij, and another with change.

3.) 23 Dec 2017 22:10:40
Ok, thanks anyway Ed2, hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas.

{Ed002's Note - Thank you.}

4.) 23 Dec 2017 22:45:03
EDDS, who would be the better option out of these 2 free’s MAX MEYER OR LEON GORETZSKA.

{Ed002's Note - I have no way of measuring such things.}

5.) 23 Dec 2017 22:46:31
It's most likely going to either be us or Man City. A few places are reporting that it is City, but nothing concrete yet.

6.) 24 Dec 2017 00:03:14
Vvd doesn't want to play at Southampton he's made it clear he wants a move so why would he give his all when saints knocked his transfer request back in the summer. If it is us he cones to an it's 60 or even 70 mill so be it that's the prices these days city paid 50 mill 2 or 3 years ago for stone. Vvd would do a great job for us in my opinion.

7.) 24 Dec 2017 01:04:35
He's hardly played recently, his attitude stunk when he did. He will take time to adjust to being on it, and by then, knowing us we would have labelled him a flop. I am saying now I don't want him, but if he comes I'll support him. Not sure it matters who comes in as we need two, of klopp doesn't give Gomez a go - my favourite CB is klavan, and I still think klopp sees him as third choice.

8.) 24 Dec 2017 06:04:57
Truth hurts. vvd should give his all for the pure fact that he's still pulling a wage every week.

9.) 24 Dec 2017 08:48:11
Unfortunately lavers life isn't like that mate if I had offers of a better job with more money I'm sure as hell not going to bust a gut for my current employer. I think he'll do a good job for us pal.

Hi ed, been reading the rumour/ banter pages today, can't see if this question has been asked.

If Liverpool sign Lemar would that mean the club would be willing to let Coutinho go or are the matters unrelated?

Thanks.

christopher199

{Ed002's Note - If Lemar arrives then I think it unlikely that Coutinho would stay.}

1.) 28 Aug 2017 18:40:38
I think Pipco always was going to go, we're just holding out for the best price. If we get Lemar then I think that's a good shout. I'd have loved us to sign Insigne but can imagine that would be a hard transfer to pull off.

2.) 28 Aug 2017 18:48:38
Bye then.

3.) 28 Aug 2017 18:46:07
Thanks ed. in your business minded, not football related opinion, would you get these deals done and let PC go? Also, when do I begin my apprenticeship to take over your reigns 😂.

{Ed002's Note - The consideration has to be the club and the team and if Lemar were to arrive then common sense dictates space needs to be made. Coutinho wants out - we know that. Most clubs simply move on and don't want to get in a difficult situation with folks who don't want to be there.}

14 Dec 2016 17:04:58
Loris Karius has been dropped to the bench meaning Mignolet will be starting against Boro tonight.

christopher199

1.) 14 Dec 2016 23:42:08
Did not think Klopp would go for it, if Migs messes up a lot of us are going to look very stupid.

2.) 17 Dec 2016 15:16:11
That is why I disagree with him being dropped even tho, I understand why he did it.

04 Jul 2016 15:46:31
Palace up their bid for Benteke.

christopher199

1.) 04 Jul 2016 21:35:33
Snap their hands off. no disrespect intended because he'll be a very good buy for someone who can play to his strengths which Brendan and his team misinterpreted as being our style of play.
No doubt he'll haunt us next season but the money could partly pay off our catalogue of poor buys or go towards a decent left-back!
If we can thin out the squad even more but keep a hard-core 25 or so pool of quality "squaddies" whilst keeping the wages down then now is the season to do it. I hate to use the word "transition" but without Europe we can easily mount a serious challenge on domestic fronts without breaking the bank!

2.) 04 Jul 2016 21:49:49
Take the money and disappear into the wind before they change their minds.

3.) 05 Jul 2016 01:47:13
I think people are mixing up Bentekes lack of confidence with him not being able to play our "style". He may not be able to run non stop and press quickly like Origi but do all of our strikers actually do that. He had the quality and scored a good few goals. All sorts of goals. He was getting into the positions too, that shows it wasn't the style. He missed so many sitters that if he had scored his goal tally would have been good.

{Ed001's Note - actually, the problem was that he was not getting into the positions, he was being caught stood around on the edge of the box instead of racing into the 6 yard box.}

4.) 05 Jul 2016 07:13:43
Spot on Ed. I postedvyour very words all thru last season till yesterday. The guy is just lazy and wsnts everything done for him. Many times last season, nhe always seemed to be behind the flow of play while Studge, Origi and Firmino are always on the move hence, they scored more goals than he did. I played the CF position and trust me, Benteke doesn't even do the fundamentals of the podition as in making runs and counter runs to lose his markers and win the ball. He just stands there hidden behind the CBs and expects the ball to cine to him. Tgat shows his ooor attitude and lack of desire to score and succeed. Tgat is not a style of play not fitting a player. That is a player who couldn't be arsed to do his job yet people wonder why he doesn't score yet iur other strikers score mire eithnkessvtime on the pitch. The answer is sopimple. They are willing to do what it tsjes to score while Benteke isn't interested in doing any of that hence, he's getting the boot.

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame, because a bit of effort could easily have taken him onto a whole new level. He has all the basic attributes needed, pace, power, height, strength, technique, but a terrible attitude to using them. He wants it all done for him.}

5.) 05 Jul 2016 07:51:47
Ed/ Ohio,
I agree on the observations, it's there for anyone to see. However, I wonder about the wording 'terrible attitude'. For me, Balo is the schoolbook example of bad attitude. Ben seems at least somewhat interested in making it here. In Ben's case, I think it is more a case of 'bad decision making' and 'not being well-equipped in the brain department'. And historically, I would have put some blame on the coaches and scouts and everyone involved. Klopp seems more normal in that sense - realizing, It was never going to be us, Ben.

6.) 05 Jul 2016 15:45:02
That's true ed. I was more talking about the numerous times he ran through clean on goal and fluffed his lines. I think his positioning became worse as he lost more and more confidence. Like you say it was a lack of effort for him to get in there and score not that he can't.

{Ed001's Note - such a waste of talent, it is a shame.}

Virgil van Dijk statement on handing in transfer request
"Unfortunately I feel I have no alternative after I was given notice of the Club's intention to impose a disciplinary sanction against me of a fine equivalent to 2 weeks wages. I will be appealing what I feel to be an unjustified sanction and their inability to follow the correct disciplinary protocol in due course.
Over the past six months I have held numerous discussions with representatives of the board, the former manager Claude Puel as well as the new manager Mauricio Pellegrino to inform them all of my desire to leave the club in search of a new challenge.
I am incredibly ambitious and want to achieve as much as I possibly can to fulfil my potential in what is a very short career as a professional footballer. I want to play European football again and challenge for major honours and as such I would like Southampton to consider the interest in me from top clubs should it still exist.
I have been left frustrated by the club's position that I am not for sale and am disappointed that enquiries from multiple top clubs have been consistently rebuffed.
The period of time that I have just spent injured and unable to play has put a number of things into perspective and made me realise just how important it is to take major opportunities should they arise.
I have consistently relayed my feelings to senior management at Southampton in what I believed to be private and personal conversations. Disappointingly, these conversations have regularly found their way into the media.
I would also like to make clear that I have never once refused to train. I can confirm that I was asked about my frame of mind and for all of the reasons mentioned above I was open and honest in saying that I did not feel I was in a settled mindset given the circumstances.
Following this conversation the manager explained that he only wanted players who he felt were 100% committed to Southampton and told me I would therefore have to train away from the first team.
As a proud professional I am insulted by the suggestion that it was me who refused to train and so feel it is important to point out the true version of events.
I had very much hoped to retain the good relationship I've always enjoyed with everyone at the club, especially the fans, but unfortunately in light of everything that's happened this has now been seriously affected.
I would like to make clear that I have nothing but gratitude to everyone at Southampton for giving me the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
However, the time for me to move on is now and I hope to be able to work with the club to find the best resolution to suit all parties. ".

1.) 07 Aug 2017 17:37:55
I'd still expect him to go to Chelsea as Southampton will ask the FA to look into our conduct and investigate if we bid.

2.) 07 Aug 2017 17:58:36
The FA will only investigate further if Soton go back to them.

VVD is damaged goods at Southampton and unlikely that they will keep him now that he has given up the percentage of the fee that Soton would have had to pay should they sell him.

{Ed002's Note - The FA aren't involved.}

3.) 07 Aug 2017 18:05:34
The EPL then?

{Ed002's Note - Everyone is just making stuff up.}

4.) 07 Aug 2017 18:23:27
He's not worth 60 million.

5.) 07 Aug 2017 18:24:53
BLOODY HELL FranklyMrShankly!
Right now more than anything else I just wish a great lion would bust into your mist and tear into you. Your negative, put-us-down syndrome is utterly suffocating bro.

A pity cause I see your a smart bloke and these pages could benefit from your contributions if you actually decided to make a few.

16 Sep 2016 23:15:54
Ed1 if you're around mate, just wondering your thoughts on the game?

christopher199

{Ed001's Note - Once again another good team performance with most of the team playing well. Most of all, it was pleasing to see the desire, the will to win present in all our players. Added to Klopp's tactics of harrying Chelsea, that will to win was essential to our chances. Conte was completely outmatched tactically, he had no answer to Klopp's set up.

Positives:
Henderson's goal, not just because it was a thing of beauty but because it showed what he is really capable of. His lack of composure in front of goal has always held him back from achieving his true potential, hopefully the confidence boost will fix that.
Lovren's goal, the ball from Coutinho was right onto his toe and his finish was top class, especially for a centre half.
James Milner is looking better and better at left back, though Willian was not the stiffest test he will face all season.
Matip and Lovren look like a pair, rather than two individuals.
We always looked dangerous, like we could score on every attack.
The biggest positive of all is that we did it without Firmino. We did not seem to miss him at all. That is a big thing with a player of such quality, when you lose them it can often have a negative effect on performances as the rest of the team lose heart. We looked galvanised.

Negatives:
The mix up in midfield leading to their goal. All 3 players were in place to track the run of Matic, but all of them left it to the others. As captain, Hendo has to carry the main portion of the blame there, he should be the one either tracking or getting someone else to track. He should have been the one instructing the players on the pitch. Those kind of things happen, usually less as players grow used to each other's game, but even the most well adapted team will make those kind of errors. Still, that doesn't mean you should just accept them, you have to look to improve communication within the side.
Milner's refusal to ping an early ball in with his left foot when the opportunity presented itself, especially after Origi came on. His constant desire to turn back onto his right will be an issue against the better organised teams in the league.
I hate to say this as people think I am just getting on his back and he is a genuinely nice fella, but Mignolet. Time after time he puts us under pressure with his kicking and dawdling on the ball. Luckily Conte is not tactically astute, or he would have instructed his forwards to pressure him more on the ball. Even so, Migs' decision making is appalling, his passing is weak and often wayward. He gives the opposition hope. Winning teams crush the hope of the opposition even before they get on the pitch, not give out hope that they can't hold onto a lead.

1.) 17 Sep 2016 09:16:02
I also think despite a short spell in the first half where a few passes went astray wijnaldum had his best display for us. He is becoming more and more assured and if he continues he will become a real asset to the team. You are right ed, we are finally building a team rather than having a group with a few outstanding players we are building an outstanding team.

I have to cencede to your opinion on conte too ed, i think the italian team fooled me into thinking he had a framework. He is a motivator nothing more.

Despite the mistake in tracking back hendo once again proved he is a top player and our deserved captain.

All in all very encouraging and mindful of burnley so will not be getting too carried away about our prospects in our coming supposedly easier fixtures.

2.) 17 Sep 2016 10:34:24
Mignolets terrible. End of. Ed there is no discussion. He's appalling and a major Thorne in our side, especially with our ambitions him in the side could literally be the difference between 2nd and 6th.

People believe its not that bad.

Its not just its his general goal keeping its the hope he gives other sides, the worry he causes the defenders (especially if they make different decisions to take a harder move because they don't want to give it to him), his passes is not just because there's klopps intructioms ( (he wants them to pass the ball out the back) . He doesn't have a clue about reading a game, matip surrounded by 3 Chelsea players within 4/ 5 feet of him clearly not in a position to receive the ball. Yes klopps wants you to pass out but its not possible there smash it up the field. He's that type well you told me.

Needs to go. If he doesn't your talking and elevation of our entire team, which won't be understood properly until he's replaced. Kafius has to come in.

3.) 17 Sep 2016 12:45:08
He's not terrible. Terrible is a ridiculous word to describe him. Not the best, but he's not terrible.

4.) 17 Sep 2016 17:25:21
Whether Migs is "terrible" or just "not great" is not so much the issue. The important questions are "is Karius better? " and "how does Klopp ease him in? " Hope he starts in the cup.

5.) 17 Sep 2016 18:02:47
I think while we romped for most of the first half, I think it became clear we were missing what Firmino offers by late in the first and in the second half.

Mane wasn't as influential without Firmino; Bobby is great at pressing and retrieving balls in the middle, and spotting Mane's excellent runs on the counter. They also interact brilliantly in the final third.

Coutinho has moments of magic (like this assist) but is still not the same pressing/ force in the middle like Firmino. I don't think we would have retreated as often in the 2nd half, with Firmino leading the attack -- as he usually drops deep and helps build up play / counter, which was missing for most of the 2nd half.

6.) 17 Sep 2016 18:06:35
I don't know how many times Mignolet played the ball to a defender who was being closed down by two players. Terrible, brainless, decision-making. He creates panic, confusion, and disorder at the back.

IMHO, we have two very brainless footballers on this team; Moreno and Mignolet. Thankfully Klopp has finally found a way (and reason) to drop Moreno (perhaps for good), but Mignolet is still there causing trouble. Bring in Karius and let's move on from the Mignolet Moment (a moment that has lasted several seasons too long) .

31 Aug 2016 19:47:38
I'm actually quite disappointed at how some of our fans have been so negative and abuse recently. I mean what's the problem?

The team and the club deserves our support. Stop being such dickheads and just moaning for the sake of moaning. It's pathetic and I don't think I've seen this page so negative like this in a while, especially since I don't understand what is actually so awful?

Was only jesting Ed002. I know you love me mate :)

{Ed002's Note - I would be happy to love you but suspect you don't have the money. All of the other Eds are a lot cheaper. Ed007 can be a lot of fun if you comb the hair on his back and feet in to alignment.}

23 Aug 2016 03:17:04
I think we all need to calm down over the Burnely result. Yes, we didn't play well, but we need to realise that we have a great manager in Klopp, the best manager we have had in a very long time and we need to give him the time in order to achieve success. Of course as fans we have every right to critique our manager (if he makes the wrong decisions, etc) and our players but I don't feel it helps if we push the team into a corner after a loss. Indeed, Liverpool football club will loose football matches this season as well as win many football matches, but the insane knee jerk reaction post match don't usually contribute to anything. Loosing to Burnley understandably makes fans upset, with me included, but I trust out manager to drill into the players and coach them not to make these mistakes again - and if they are simply not good enough to play for us then hopefully dip into the transfer market.

I think a lot of the fans need to calm down, I would much rather loose to Burnley and learn from out mistakes early on in the season and push on and get good results elsewhere in the league. We're far from perfect and I think most of us understand that, but we're a decent team and we need to support our club whether we win or loose and try not to come to rash, knee jerk reactions after a loss.

Regardless, I'm really looking forward to the season and even the years ahead because I'm positive that we are in for something special.

christopher199

1.) 23 Aug 2016 04:37:47
Well said mate, agree 100%.

2.) 23 Aug 2016 08:43:19
Its easy to analyze and criticize, especially when there is good cause to. But out of the opening few fixtures, Burnley was the one I was most nervous about. Its always horrible playing newly promoted bteams early, especially away. And more so when they know how to defend.
