Hey ed,
I've you say you would go for matuidi potentially in the summer, do the club have any actual interest or is that just your opinion? I think him and hendo would cover so much ground in midfield. Also have we received the UCL prize money that was being upheld since we passed the investigation?
Thanks.

cblfc

{Ed002's Note - It is my choice and he is just what Liverpool need in a midfield player. The CL money has been paid which helps the club greatly.}

1.) 11 Mar 2015 23:49:24
Ed2 do you think we will go for him?? He is top quality pace and power
Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Quite frankly I wish I had said nothing.}

Hey eds, I've heard Borini was left out b/c we're looking to move him on this window. Is there any validity to this. thanks

cblfc

{Ed001's Note - yes but that is not why he was left out.}

1.) 29 Jan 2015 10:35:11
do you know why he was left out?

2.) 29 Jan 2015 10:35:11
do you know why he was left out?

{Ed001's Note - yes, because Rodgers wanted to give Balotelli the chance against Mourinho, as he thought he might have a point to prove and so show what he can do. It was a gamble, but it is an understandable gamble.}

3.) 29 Jan 2015 14:27:13
To be fair we need some magic Mario supposedly has some well for Italy anyway

4.) 30 Jan 2015 10:41:42
Surely Borini would have had a point to prove to both Mourinho and Chelsea?
Don't ALL of our strikers have a point to prove?

26 Dec 2014 14:01:20
Hey Ed002 I saw your post about Real Madrid, and you said they would be looking to move on benzema and Isco. I know LFC have no chance at either, but I was wondering if you could provide details about where both might end up. Thanks and merry Christmas.

cblfc

{Ed002's Note - This is not really something for the Liverpool page. In simple terms Real Madrid have planned out the transfers in and out for the season but this is not the place to be discussing where players will move to.}

Eds is it fair to assume that Balotelli has played his last game for Liverpool? With Brendan opening his mouth again it seems that he is trying to get ahead of this outcome. Also if he is finished at Liverpool is it possible he will be sold and a replacement brought in during January or will it wait until the summer? Thanks for any insight.

cblfc

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say, no idea if there are injury problems going to arise in the next few weeks or so. Rodgers would certainly prefer not to play him.}

06 Jul 2014 18:35:50
Eds, there is no truth in interest from us in Sissoko from Newcastle correct?

cblfc

{Ed001's Note - it is an old story mate, when Lallana looked to be falling through.}

hey ed
on the pod you mentioned periera and other younger left backs that seem to be more for future development. If the club are unable to bring in periera, are they comfortable with milner as the starting lb again next season. I know you are not in the room, but I was wondering if you had any insight.
Thanks.

cblfc

{Ed002's Note - Klopp seems happy with Milner as he is a regular starter.}

1.) 15 Mar 2017 22:04:32
True Ed002 but another person might argue that it just means that Klopp is happier with Milner than with Moreno as a regular starter.

{Ed002's Note - Klopp is not seeing the issues the fans are.}

Eds, I was wondering how often a player is actually watched before the decision is made to buy them? It seems to me that a lot of players, especially during summers with big tournaments, have interest "reported" after a handful of games that are usually an outlier. Teams obviously do not have scouts at every game but do they go back and watch film of the player at games they haven't sent scouts to? Also how much of scouting is quantitative with sites like whoscored or whatever playing a role? I understand every club will do it differently but if you could give insight into common practices I would really appreciate it.

cblfc

{Ed001's Note - how many times they will be watched and how they are watched varies. It is impossible to say as each is an individual case. Whoscored is not used as far as I am aware. Usually it is wyscout, scout7 or instat that gets used for scouting. A lot of that is scouts that are analysing performances or forthcoming opponents as well.}

1.) 07 Aug 2015 05:58:30
Appreciate it Ed, it just seems like a lot of purchases are based off of a small sample size and I was curious if that was the case.

{Ed001's Note - some can be. Origi was.}

2.) 07 Aug 2015 09:16:57
It seemed as if Origi was a bit of a knee jerk reaction because of his World Cup performances. Was this the case Ed?

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

24 Jun 2015 16:45:58
Hey eds, does the Firmino signing impact Lallana's future with the club? Seems we have a bit of a logjam at attacking midfielder.
Thanks

cblfc

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know what the club are planning for a number of the players bought last season.}

1.) 24 Jun 2015 18:20:01
Lallana didn't perform. He was bought to hit the ground running and dictate games when he played. And Unlike Lazar ect. He doesn't have age as an excuse

2.) 24 Jun 2015 18:56:55
Lallana is a very skillful player and showed his worth last season when he actually got to play. injuries hurt him, dearly so let`s hope he can perform this year instead of criticizing him after one injury-hit season which is unfair, IMO.

3.) 24 Jun 2015 20:45:16
Next season, there is no doubt that Lallana and Lovren need to step up big time.

4.) 24 Jun 2015 21:40:39
Lallana is quality. He'll be an important player this season. Our ability to rotate high quality players like Firmino, Coutinho & Lallana is exciting and a sign that the squad depth is improving. Sturridge, Bacca, Ings & Origi is a similarly stronger and better balanced set of strike options. Bacca looks a proper predator. Fingers crossed fellow Reds!

Hey ed I've seen you say that Benzema or Higuain could be a possibility. I was wondering if they were available last summer, and the club decided that Balotelli was a better "value?" I just don't see anyway we can get w/o champions league even if we can get rid of Balotelli's wages and receive a decent fee for Sterling, last summer I think we may have had a chance. Thanks

cblfc

{Ed002's Note - We are done with last summer.}

People are giving BR and Gerrard a lot of flack tonight, but I will say that managing an aging superstar is the most difficult thing to do in any sport. SG is still the captain, and I'm willing to bet the most dominant personality in the locker room. I would also bet that a lot of the younger players look to Gerrard for advice. This isn't fifa, and you cannot simply cast someone aside who has as much influence in the locker room as he does even if our best team doesn't include him in it for fear of real chemistry problems. It's clearly time for a separation, and I hope SG is the best player in the MLS when he gets there; but for all the mistakes BR has made in the media, transfer market, etc I do think people need some perspective with this issue.

cblfc

1.) I agree and will just add that even when he doesn't have a great match like yesterday he can still be threatening. His free kick in the first half was straight to the top corner, unfortunately for us their keeper read it well and his overhead kick in the second half if not blocked was bang on goal.

{Ed001's Note - I disagree completely on the not casting away an ageing star point. It has to be done or you end up with a disruption in the dressing room and on the training ground as they get frustrated at having their time on the pitch limited. Bob Paisley saw how that affected the team under Bill Shankly, so he always made a point of moving players on early. That is why he was so much more successful so quickly than anyone else has been. He was ruthless, but fair.

Hanging on to players out of sentiment is the worst thing you can do (unless you compare that to hanging on to a manager out of sentiment and paying them millions for 20 days work a year, that might possibly be worse. If nothing else, it makes it more difficult for any other manager to succeed with him looking over their shoulder). There are many reasons for it, for one being ruthless with players whose performance has dipped keeps the rest of the team on their toes and makes them work harder to keep their place. There is less friction as an older player knows he is not able to perform to his best and so gets frustrated with himself and will, unconsciously, take that out on those around him.

It is easier to put off the decision, but the easy route is very rarely the correct or best route.}

2.) 08 Feb 2015 09:05:28
Totally agree with Ed on this one. Bob Paisley once said let the players lose their legs somewhere else, they are not losing them here. He was ruthless and very,very successful with it.

3.) I have to agree with the eds on this one. Over the years the better liverpool managers always knew when to get rid of a player who was past his best. You have to be ruthless or they will only hold the team back. Unfortunately Gerard should have gone at the end of last season as it is clear that we are now a better team without him.

4.) Proven managers have the ability and courage to do what is needed to win and remain successful. BP and Shanks had that and did what was right for the club and which is not the easy way to go. If it was, EVERYONE would be a successful manager. We have allowed SG to linger here too long and as a result, is disrupting the flow of the team on a weekly basis.

It's ok for the club to carry some debt so long as yearly revenue exceeds debt service and expenditures by a considerable margin. The club's name still has value and the owners can sell it with the attached debt if they so choose. What's more troubling is that the club seems to be had in the market again and again. Why are we paying the majority of transfer fees in single installments upfront and selling players for fees paid in installments?

cblfc

{Ed001's Note - not sure how that is being had? It means there is regular income from the instalments, while the outgoings are pretty much accounted for immediately. Payment terms make little real difference in that respect, there are pros and cons to either way of doing it.}

nobody on this site has seen Fekir's medicals. The truth is we don't know had bad his knee is, and how likely a problem is to happen. That's why you pay professionals you trust to give you their opinion. Our recruitment was very poor before klopp arrived. If his knee checks out and he is a player we like, then we should try to find an agreement with Lyon. Simple as that.

Ed how much influence does Klopp have in recruitment. I'm sure he isn't negotiating transfer fees, agent fees, player wages, etc. But does he have an active role in picking which players we do target?
Thanks.

cblfc

{Ed002's Note - Yes, he will liaise with the scouts and the transfer committee. He will ask scouts to take a look at players and will consider those offered up by them. He has nothing to do with contracts, negotiating, wages etc..}

Ed this may seem like a stupid question, but do you know if LFC have any intention of doing this (acting quickly etc) regarding Shaqiri? I know we have no money, but potential sales in the summer may make this move possible assuming the player actually wants it, which I understand is a big if.

cblfc

{Ed002's Note - What I know I have explained above.}

I love Mbappe as a player but Robertson was always an option on the left as well. I think PSG wanted their pace on the counter and keep them higher up the pitch. Their biggest problem to me was shoehorning di maria centrally agianst us. That sort of thing works when you're playing an inferior side that wants soak up pressure, but I thought he was a ghost and really hurt them.

no verrati is a big plus. they're a little light in the midfield. I expect LFC to play well. Wouldn't shock me at all if we are on the front foot most of the night.

klopp on the sideline seemed to indicate that he wanted to bypass the midfield and spurs press. I think he was afraid of the quick counters. We clearly had the better of it and their pressing didn't really do much. Obviously losing firmino hurts as he could come a little deeper and create almost diamond in midfield and play in mane and salah. I hope shaqiri gets a run out as a false nine almost against psg.

This is the problem with our transfer policy. We pay what Ed002 said was way more than any other club for keita, and now people want to pay more just to get him to come sooner. It's the same problem with VVD. We fall in love with instead of identifying a skill set and finding multiple players who have that skill set. We have spent how much on gigi and ox and we still NEED keita. We really need to sort ourselves out in the market and learn from other clubs.
