Hi Ed01, hope you are having a good day!

Have you heard of any update on Ox's injury? I thought i saw somewhere that he was expected back for pre season. But i have heard some people mentioning now that it seems to be a lot worse, like 9months+? very disapointing if true, as he was in fine form and would have been good to have him back for the start of the season!

Any info is appreciated!

alexdavies1993

{Ed001's Note - I have not heard of any time frame being mentioned sorry.}

1.) 09 May 2018 13:52:21
Hey Ed001, do you know what the injury has been classified as. All we've I've read is that it "ligament damage". I've ruptured my ACL recently and wouldn't wish that on my worse enemy but its made me more curious about injuries, specifically the knee ones.

{Ed001's Note - they have just said ligament damage. Unusual for LFC as they are usually fairly forthcoming regarding injuries.}

2.) 09 May 2018 14:07:31
The fact they are normally forthcoming makes me worried its a serious injury, is that why they are going for Fekir/ Atatcking midfielder? If it is his ACL he will be out the entirety of next season meaning we will need to fill his position, with Lallana seeming on the out and Milner not being able to play every game (Seems to slow down fitness wise later on in games) we need someone. These two would needed to have been replaced now/ soon anyway.

3.) 09 May 2018 18:31:04
ACL are potential career Enders depending on the severity. I know because that’s what happened to me and I had to leave the military. I have had surgery and physio therapy etc for years and still I cannot run more than 4-5 miles without the pain becoming unbearable, cold weather and going up or down too many step in a short period o time is also difficult. And all this was after a long period of diagnosis which can be difficult. I suspect Ox will have a lot better care than I did but it really can have a massive effect, especially for players that rely on a bit of pace. Again I used to be be pretty rapid, but those days are long long gone.

4.) 09 May 2018 19:40:37
That’s a rough one mate.

5.) 09 May 2018 19:41:51
Hard to say how long Ox will be out with that general information. If it had been an ACL injury I would expect him to have surgery by now. Looking at the situation it could have been an ACL injury, that would rule him out for 9-12 months, and research shows that just 55. % returns to the level of sport after surgery. But my first guess would be MCL (medial collateral ligament, on the inside of the knee), that would be about 3 months away from football training, but he could train strength and running a lot sooner. So I hope for a MCL injury, but we'll se in pre-season, unless there is more info from the club ahead of pre-season.

6.) 10 May 2018 01:22:28
5-6 miles Westwood? I don't think the pain would be an issue for me, fairly sure I'd be dead after 2.

7.) 10 May 2018 10:47:26
A lot of rumours from the normally reliable Paul Tomkins site he's already had surgery but has done both ACL and PCL ligaments, which is a nightmare scenario and one from which the surgeons cannot predict how well (or even, if at all) he will recover. Hence the lack of news so far. Really hoping this is not true but, if it is true, his career is massively under threat and in the very best case he will need a major rehab period (1 year plus I expect. )

8.) 10 May 2018 20:16:26
He has just posted a photo on Instagram post surgery. Hope it’s not a lengthy lay off.

Hi Eds,

Have we ever had scouts watch Hakim Ziyech or hold any interest in him?

He looks an incredible player (looks like Ajax have afew of those atm) with time on his side! I think he would suit really well with our midfield, and Klopps pressing style/ fast driving attacks. Although we probably already have the 2 forward midfielders taken up with keita and Ox! Would be an incredible rotation player for us, especially if his other option is Everton!

alexdavies1993

{Ed002's Note - We cannot answer questions about random players on the Liverpool page. However, as there is the most tenuous of links I will give you an answer.

Any Everton interest sounds like old news about a Martinez target from a couple of years back. Hoffenheim and Sampdoria were disappointed with January 2016 rejections for Hakim Ziyech who chose to move to Ajax in the summer of 2016 over interest from Fenerbahce, Dortmund, CSKA Moscow, Sunderland, Swansea and Southampton. Other sides including Inter, Roma, Crystal Palace Leicester all looked to the player when he was at Twente. His agent said last year that "Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs have come from England to watch my player" (who comes with a great deal of baggage) but there is nothing to substantiate that at all. Chelsea had a player on loan at Ajax, Spurs and Liverpool took a look at Kasper Dolberg and Riechedly Bazoer respectedly.}

Apologies Ed002! Thanks for the reply, much appreciated! :)

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome Alex.}

French Journo saying we have made an approach to leicester for Ndidi, any truth to this? Apparently they are currently asking for too much.

Hi Eds,
Seeing post from brazilian news outlets that Gremio has accepted an official bid from Liverpool for around £23m which was handed to Gremio on May 6th and there president has just accepted? Any truth to this?

alexdavies1993

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea and it would be a lot to pay for part of the palyer.}

1.) 14 May 2017 11:13:20
It does seem to be too much of a hassle too sort a deal out with his ownership issues.

What does the club have to do to sort it out the right way? Do they have to buy out the third party first or how does it work?

Cheers,

{Ed002's Note - You need to find someone to negotiate the purchase of the remaining rights from the third parties and his agent.}

2.) 14 May 2017 11:37:29
Does that include Gremio in this case, buying him out from the third party before being able too sort out a deal with us?

{Ed002's Note - I don't understand the question, sorry.}

3.) 14 May 2017 16:17:40
Ed I know you will probably scoff at this question, but please excuse my ignorance - please take into consideration this is completely hypothetical.
Say the player is owned 70-30 by club and third party. Someone buys the 70 off the club. As they own the majority, can he legally play for them, or do they have to buy the 30 too? I guess as third party is not allowed here, yes, but what happens if you pay say 20 for the 70 and the third party owners won't negotiate?

{Ed002's Note - The question is fine. If a player is owned 70 by a club and 30 percent by third parties he can only play for a new club in countries where third party ownership is allowed. If he were to look to a move to one of the countries where third party ownership is not permitted, then he could not be registered to play for the new club. If the third party owners were not open to negotiating a price for the rights they own, then again the player could not make the move to a country like England.

FIFA have outlawed third party ownership although legally they are on questionable ground in Europe with courts refusing to ratify the rules in Belgium and Portugal. Portugal allows third party ownership as do the South American countries.

It means clubs need to negotiate with third parties (often agents, businessmen or sports investment companies for the transfer of players. The likes of Kia Joorabchian, Pini Zahavi and Jorge Mendes (vis his company GestiFute) all dabble in third party ownership. Some European clubs have third party stakes in South American players - Chelsea for example.

There is also a slightly sinister and unusual issue (and something that the football authorities would like to end) in relation to a low-tier Uruguayan club. It is embroiled in an investment company called the Stellar Group who financially control Deportivo Maldonado, a Uruguayan side with no real facilities and a small fan base. They legally hold (or have held) the rights to a number of players who are high profile (Jonathan Calleri, Alex Sandro and Pablo Osvaldo all come to mind) and were "purchased" and then sold on at a significant profit to the London-based investment company and the agent who deals with most of these players, Gustavo Arribas, who is also the Director General of the Argentinian Intelligence Agency. Manchester City would liked to have purchased Geronimo Rulli outright but only 70% of his rights were for sale he could not therefore play in England. To overcome this, Manchester City have sold their portion of his ownership and Deportivo Maldonado have sold part of their portion of his ownership (in reality Stellar's and Arribas' portion) to Real Sociedad and then agreed to sell the remaining 30% over a three year period to Real Sociedad to overcome Spanish rules regarding part ownership. Manchester City for their part in facilitating this has and agreement that they can buy the goalkeeper for something like €15m once he is fully owned by Real Sociedad (or for a cost of €15M plus a negoiated fee for the remaining rights). As with any buy back clause, they would need to any higher offer made by another side in the future. Rulli would not be eligible for a UK work permit but I understand that he will seek a European passport. That would be seen by the UK as a passport of convenience and would not help him. The player knew that if he moved to Manchester City he would have to be loaned out and eventually probably sold. Like Calleri, none of this is illegal but perhaps it should be - it is well beyond the third party ownership that is rife in South America. Deportivo Maldonado is a effectively a shell for Stellar and Arribas to exploit Uruguayan tax laws.}

4.) 14 May 2017 17:02:43
Now that's an answer, thanks ed!
I presume that company no longer hold calleri's rights as he played today?

{Ed002's Note - Calleri is on loan from Deportivo Maldonado - the ownership of which is largely London-based.}

10 Feb 2017 09:36:36
Hi Eds, is there anything in the reports saying we also want Damarai Gray of Leicester in the summer? He looked good for Leicester the other night, maybe one for the future!

alexdavies1993

{Ed002's Note - I don't know of any approach and if Liverpool would see Damarai Gray as "one for the future" then why would he move?}

1.) 10 Feb 2017 13:48:05
We looked at him in the past I guess and decided not to move for him. He is playing regularly at Leicester. I would rather buy one top class experienced than another Potential.

Confirmed Firmino has signed a new long term contract, even did a cheeky no look sign! Great news!

Get in! Ed002 was right. no need for me to worry! Great news! Absolutely Love Salah (obviously) but still overall nobody above Bobby in my eyes at LFC at the mo!

Does anybody else get the feeling Emre Can will be moving to a Premier League team? There has been a few murmurs that he has bought a house here.

Is there any serious interest from premier league clubs in Can? Or are they just keeping an eye on the situation?

alexdavies1993

{Ed002's Note - Bought a house where? Which clubs are you talking about?}

1.) 10 Apr 2018 11:27:52
My uneducated guess a month or two back on here, was he will end up at Man City. Hope am wrong but but just what i think.

2.) 10 Apr 2018 11:28:58
Wouldn't be surprised to see him at Man City next season. The lad saw out his contract and never kicked up a fuss or disrupted team morale.
Let's just wish him the best wherever he goes. His replacement is a much superior player in Keita so no need to be bitter towards Can.

3.) 10 Apr 2018 13:07:46
As I've said before, I, too, think he will end up at ManC. It's clear Juventus want him, but I haven't read anything anywhere about ManC being interested in him. However, if they are interested, then there's no doubt in my mind that they can and will outbid any offers from Juventus.

Not Liverpool related but would love to hear peoples opinions on the Ronaldo V Messi arguments?

IMO Messi is miles ahead of any player i have ever seen in almost every aspect, i think Ronaldo is an incredible goal scorer but for me Messi is a level above in all aspects, he scores almost the same whilst being to create for anywhere on the pitch. I am convinced that left foot is robotic. Can only imagine the destruction that would be caused if they both played together.

Whats your opinion Eds and Reds?

alexdavies1993

1.) 09 Mar 2018 12:56:32
Ronaldo is a much nicer person, and I think he is a more complete player. Messi has weaknesses, Ronaldo doesn't.

However, Messi in terms of vision, speed of thought, technique, dribbling etc is just on another planet to everyone in the modern game. The problem I have with Messi is that he is lazy and arrogant in the wrong ways.

When Argentina were in a major competition final the other year, Mascherano got everyone in a circle and tried to motivate them whilst captain Messi stood away on his own. His arrogance cut him off from his team mates at a time when they needed him.

When Ronaldo went off injured in a major international final, he still tried his hardest to be involved and motivate his team mates. His arrogance is channelled. He still believed he was good enough to help from the airlines, but at least he wanted to help.

Ronaldo cares. On and off the pitch. His training routine is inhuman. His charity work is genuine and compassionate. You look at his face on the pitch and see emotion.

Messi was just blessed. He doesn't care and his charity work seems like it's half hearted and he's being signed up to it by his agent for his image. He's emotionless.

I will always prefer Ronaldo, but i'm under no illusion and fully accept that Messi is the better player.

2.) 09 Mar 2018 14:50:30
I think you need to google the charity work that Messi has done MK before throwing him under a bus. Building schools in Syria, Lionel Messi Foundation (medical research), visiting Haiti, Bangkok, meeting young people with disabilities and so on.

3.) 09 Mar 2018 15:52:27
I think it’s rather harsh judging players on their personalities when you have met neither. As you said footballing wise Messi is in a different planet, everything else you said is just pure speculation.

4.) 09 Mar 2018 16:23:07
Wow Ronaldo a nicer person than Messi MK? When I read that sentence I thought u were being sarcastic but then realized u actually meant it? That is incredible.

On another note Messi is the best IMO but the player I most enjoyed watching will always be ronaldinho, he was a joy to watch and made me love football when I first seen him.

5.) 09 Mar 2018 16:33:17
Off topic I personally think Ronaldinho had more talent than both combined.

6.) 09 Mar 2018 16:46:00
I often think that Smeg when people are judging players. Some of the players will be horrible human beings. I just support them on the pitch, off the pitch I hope they do the right things but I have no idea if they are decent people.

About the only current ex player I am glad is doing well is Lukas. But again I am making an educated guess on him as a person, oh and I support Rafa.

7.) 09 Mar 2018 17:16:25
Agreed mark08. For example I've never liked Jon Walters, he always did well against us, seemed to love beating us and seemed to be a bit of a dirty player. I recently saw an interview with him speaking of how he lost his mum when he was 11 years old, he was very emotional and I couldn't help but feel bad for him. It made me realize that what we see of a footballer is a fraction of their lives and unless we really know them how can we judge their character.

8.) 09 Mar 2018 19:22:26
Didn't Ronaldo open a museum dedicated to himself in Madeira? And Messi is the arrogant one.

9.) 09 Mar 2018 19:25:01
If you know about his charity work then it makes that charity work a bit self serving. If I were a multi millionaire and was involved with charity work I would not phone the media everytime I wrote a cheque. If these guys DID NOT do charity work they would be considered monsters imo. I like to think they do a lot we don't know about. I think 6/ 7 years ago Messi was the best but in the last 5 years I think Ronaldo is better, probably looked after his body a bit better. Of those 5 years maybe Messi steals one season.

10.) 09 Mar 2018 21:49:48
I think Messi is more talented. However, Ronaldo's dedication and focus - to me - has taken him over Messi in the past couple of years.
When Zidane won the best player award in 2003, I remember Gattuso saying it was undeserved and Zidane only won on talent, which means Maradona should've been the best for every year he played.
Talent has to translate to success. Ronaldo IMO is the best and most decisive player for now.
But for who's the best all time, neither is my number 1, 2 or 3. They are equals - on the same level.

11.) 09 Mar 2018 22:43:02
Messi is natural. Pure divine! Ronaldo is the best ever trained human product imo!

31 Jan 2018 20:05:52
Leipzig just signed Ademola Lookman on loan? Maybe an attacking player to help with them losing Keita today? ;)

alexdavies1993

1.) 31 Jan 2018 20:14:52
Keita will be signed by 11pm!

Ed01, Quick question wheres Grujic in Klopps plans? I thought he really like him. He never gets a chance even though he looked quite promising. Heard that there is interest from Bristol City wanting him on loan.

Personally i think we have to do everything we can to keep Firmino, so that means making sure he feels safe in his position. The only reason top clubs are not properly sniffing around him, is because he has made it known that he is happy here and wants to stay. There is no one else i would take to lead the line other than Firmino.

ED02 when does our current contract with New Balance run out? For some reason i have July 2018 in my head but we are with them for next season so that must be wrong.

Personally i would be happy to stay with New Balance, i think the kits feel different and don't look like they are made from a template like a lot of the big clubs across Europe.

Do Nike/ Adidas not like/ want to do busy LFC? We must have burnt our bridges bad if they wouldn't want anything to do with Liverpool considering the size of the club in terms of fans/ support.

Ed001 Quick question, If Alonso gets the 3 game ban, seeing as it is so close to the Burnley game does the ban count for Burnley? Or is that too soon which will mean he will miss the Liverpool game? I understand there next 4 Fixtures are Burnley, Southampton, Swansea and LFC. Hopefully misses the LFC game.

alexdavies1993

{Ed001's Note - depends on what he does. If he contests the charge then there will need to be a hearing. If he does not contest it, then his ban will start straight away.}
