Afternoon Ed's, are you aware of any interest in our own players?

Sturridge, Clyne, migs, etc?

Be interesting to see where they end up and if we set silly price valuations.

Triangle

{Ed001's Note - there is little interest in Sturridge unless the asking price and wages drop. Sevilla still hold interest in him.

Clyne was looking to return down south and Palace were interested. Not sure if anything has happened there. Bournemouth are a possibility as well.

Mignolet has a similar problem to Sturridge.}

1.) 21 May 2018 16:04:48
Apologies if a daft question ed001, but could you see us just coming to an aranagment to let them go or would loans be more likely as a last resort?

{Ed001's Note - those in the last year of their contract are more likely to come to an arrangement, loans may be possible otherwise if someone is desperate enough to pay £2m+ like the Baggies did with Studger.}

2.) 21 May 2018 16:57:55
I hope we see the back of Clyne before anybody, please, some club come and take him from us, he's good, honest! ;)

3.) 21 May 2018 17:29:55
Salah. I use reddit a lot for Liverpool based news and conversation. The sub is 98k strong.
I can't figure out why but, whenever I've mentioned how poor Clyne is on there I've been vilified. A lot of them see him as the saviour we need at RB and how we've looked so much worse without him this season.

The guy not only can't defend but he's utterly useless going forward. I think it's down to his FIFA 18 rating tbh.

4.) 21 May 2018 17:46:46
That's absolutely crazy shents, I don't understand what game some people are watching at times mate.

I agree with you, he is just poor at every aspect in the game, to be honest I think I'd go as far to say, any PL team who went for him would be stupid to do so, he's Championship level at best. The bugger gives me palpitations as much as Migs/ Matip does. Anybody who rates him can't be watching him. TAA would do a better job blindfolded.

5.) 21 May 2018 17:49:49
Shents me too! To be fair been banned for laughing at United in their page because I’m a child but yes they do love Clyne and I too state his lack of ability and people assum I’m in need of a doctor, defensively frail he cannot cross a ball, they all think he offers more attacking than TAA!

6.) 21 May 2018 18:36:40
It's probably because a lot of people assume muscular athleticism is indicative of footballing ability. It's not. The ManU fans probably love Clyne because he reminds them of their own Valencia. They may be physically similar, but there's a vast difference in footbaling skill and ability between those two.

7.) 21 May 2018 20:20:51
Considering how he whined about being dropped for Karius, surely Mignolet will have to drop his wage demands if he doesn't want to become third choice next season if Butland/ Navas/ Reina comes in?

8.) 21 May 2018 20:35:50
I’d rather Mignolet than Navas! Navas is the worst keeper playing at a top side. Hopefully he’ll have another nightmare on Saturday!

9.) 21 May 2018 21:26:25
Mignolet dropping his wage demands makes a change from dropping the ball.
Sorry I’ll get me coat 😐.

{Ed025's Note - i think you should mikey.. :)

10 May 2017 15:09:24
Ed (1) if your around. I see Stewart being linked with a loan/ permenant move away, do you know what the plans are for him? And why he hasn't seen more game time this year? I always thought he showed promise.

Triangle

{Ed001's Note - he has not done enough and is now considered surplus.}

1.) 10 May 2017 15:54:47
Im not entirely sure he got that much opportunity to prove himself. I thought given time he could be an asset for us.

2.) 10 May 2017 15:58:38
plenty of clubs interested in him, shame it did not work out, I wish him well, we cannot keep everybody I suspect a lot of fringe players will be moving on come the summer.

3.) 10 May 2017 16:02:21
I agree he hasn't done enough seems klopp liked him, it was then up to him to step up and put in that work but I don't think he did.

4.) 10 May 2017 17:55:43
I think some of you guys don't understand what proving and doing enough is, you can't get game time if you don't prove yourself at the training facility where the management staff see you everyday, so with the apparent lack of game time its seems he don't do enough when training etc, i like the kid but if this is true he probably needs go prove himself in the championship or similar.

5.) 10 May 2017 17:58:21
Stewart has been injured for a month or two which is why he has not even been playing for the U23's. Honest player but lacks that bit of extra quality needed for a top EPL team.

6.) 10 May 2017 21:31:19
Agree with costared above, his best games looked mid table quality. He seems like a good kid, best of luck to him if he does move.

7.) 12 May 2017 06:28:41
And to be fair mid EPL quality is still high quality so not like people are saying he is rubbish, just not the level LFC are looking to reach.

20 Apr 2017 10:03:47
Morning Eds,

What are the possible (plausible I'll throw in too) destinations for Sturridge If he were to be sold? Is there any mooted interest?

Triangle

{Ed001's Note - there is a bit of mild interest from West Ham. Palace, Stoke and West Brom would all love to sign him as well, the issue is that I am not sure he would have much interest in them. Maybe Palace could persuade him, they have the funds, but I can't see how they would use him in their current system. Stoke need a striker desperately who can score goals, but they look to be going backward under Hughes. West Brom just don't look to have the money to afford a deal for him.}

1.) 20 Apr 2017 10:29:06
What a shame that that's the level of club he'll probably end up at. He should be in his prime right now. Wish he could've stayed fit for us.

2.) 20 Apr 2017 10:40:46
Ed do you think a move abroad would suit him better France or Spain.

{Ed001's Note - yes, but the clubs that have the money to afford him are not the ones likely to need or want him, sadly.}

3.) 20 Apr 2017 12:17:21
Ed, do you think there is a chance he could stay or do you think Klopp is fed up of how little he is available?

{Ed001's Note - there is every chance he could stay, it is just more likely he leaves due to his injury problems. Klopp would prefer someone more reliable but that is all it is.}

4.) 20 Apr 2017 15:51:28
sad but he will never be fit for more than 5 games in a row.

5.) 21 Apr 2017 22:50:47
5 games at a push. On his day quality in front of goal but that injection of pace he had is long gone, the guy doesn't even lok interested in chasing a ball in behind anymore. The injuties have got to him which is probably fair enough considering the amount he has had but for LFC it's time to move on and get a decent price for him. He will score goals for whoever he signs for and best of luck to him but we need someone we can rely on up top if we are to push on.

6.) 22 Apr 2017 17:13:30
With a World cup around the corner I am sure he will want to be playing.
I hope he finds some fitness and gets his career back on track.

We have all seen how good he can be.

One for Ed001 if your around.

What happened in your opinion with Pepe Reina? Was amazing with us for a few seasons then slowly declined over several years?

Then, the departure was all very strange, a goodbye letter when going on loan etc.

Would you consider him one of the better goalkeepers we've had?

Triangle

{Ed001's Note - it was the loss of the goalkeeping coach that affected him badly, he was never happy after that. He was a very good keeper when working with Valero, but suffered without his help.}

1.) 23 Jun 2020 16:13:48
Clemence
Alisson
Reina/ grobbelar
Hon. Mention for dudek cl winner and legend.

2.) 24 Jun 2020 09:13:25
Also under Benitez with carra, hyypia, mascherano, Alonso we were set up as a well organised defensively solid side. After Benitez left we became a shambles at the back and the likes of kyriakos, konchesky, skrtel with declining carragher and Johnson made our backline so weak and CM players like Adam, shelvey, poulson, meireles instead of Alonso mascherano ahead of defence would make any keeper look much more vulnerable in reality.

24 Mar 2020 10:57:26
Morning Ed001, hope your well. Would any of the current crop get in to your all time Liverpool XI?

Specifically where individual brilliance would suggest players such as Van Dijk? But would you break up the Lawro/ Hansen partnership that dominated?

Triangle

{Ed001's Note - Lawrenson would not make my all time XI. It would really depend, what rules would they be playing under? The game has changed so much that you just can't compare players very much. If you were playing under old rules, on old pitches, none of the current crop would stand a chance. Playing on modern day pitches, with modern rules, then you would have to say Alisson must be at least considered.}

1.) 24 Mar 2020 11:52:01
Let’s say modern day rules and pitches. after all football is suppose to be moving forward and evolving!

Did you ever do an all time Liverpool XI article?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know if I did, so I have added it to the to do list.

If you are using modern day rules and pitches then Alisson has to be keeper, as none of the other great keepers had to worry about not being able to pick up the ball from pass backs. Other than that, most of the others who are good enough have not really played for us long enough to make it. Yet anyway. Mane would be pushing though but Henderson just has so much competition in midfield I couldn't put him in there. Trent is the only other one that I would argue for, but length of service stands against him (as it does the best right-back I have seen Rob Jones).}

2.) 24 Mar 2020 12:25:32
Not put big van dijk in ed?

{Ed001's Note - too early. He needs to perform for longer. Hansen is still miles ahead of him and the likes of Thompson, Lloyd, Yeats are ahead of him too.}

3.) 24 Mar 2020 12:36:06
Alisson

Neal (due to longevity)
Hansen
van Dijk
Nicol (left back - had to find a spot for him)

Souness
Gerrard
Kennedy

Barnes
Dalglish
Rush

If I did it again in half hour I would come up with a different team.

4.) 24 Mar 2020 12:42:08
Even if we r playing in modern times? So much of defending back when Lloyd and Yates were playing was about tackling and battling the striker all elbows and kicks. What about playing out from the back, could lloyd and Yates do that as well as Vvd does?

{Ed001's Note - they were both able to play football, most players then had more skill than modern players. Their technique had to be perfect to deal with the pitch.}

5.) 24 Mar 2020 14:35:22
ed001 he was just before my time but what about Ray Clemence. I to loved Rob Jones but Steve Nicol best right back for me as Phil Neal I was just to young appreciate how good he was then. And another before my time ed Emlyn Hughes how good was he left back Alan Kennedy earns the spot for them to winning goals.

{Ed001's Note - Clem was brilliant but he never had to play out from the back, so he can't be compared to Alisson really. Nicol was brilliant but he played everywhere so it is difficult to pick a speck for him. Emlyn Hughes was before my time too, he was on Question of Sport when I was a kid. I have seen some footage, but the biggest compliment I think you can pay him is that Shanks wanted him after seeing him make his debut. He was just that good that he won Shanks on first sight.}

6.) 24 Mar 2020 15:44:10
Souness Gerrard Alonso
Midfield three.

7.) 24 Mar 2020 16:07:42
I was tempted to scoff at your mention of Larry Lloyd at first Ed. But actually he played 150 games over 5 seasons, won the league and UEFA Cup and international honours, played in a FA Cup Final and was part of that resurgent new team that went unbeaten at home so long in 1972. He also had a second great career at Clough’s Nottingham Forest.
So that’s a good shout. He was just one of many what have become under-rated players due to the excellence that followed them.
I’d still have Van Dijk though lol.

{Ed001's Note - we are very spoilt as fans of a club that have had so many truly great players.}

26 Sep 2019 08:33:33
How do you think the kiddies got on last night ED?

Triangle

{Ed001's Note - they did ok, nothing special, but good enough to get through and that is the most important thing. They need games under their belt. The worry was that Gomez and Lallana, in particular, struggled badly and they are meant to be on the fringes of the first team.}

1.) 26 Sep 2019 11:01:55
I thought that also Ed, Lovren didn’t seem to cover himself in glory either mate did he. Do you think it might be a case of getting match fit for them senior players who played last night? What’s your thoughts on how Ox and Nabby performed?

{Ed001's Note - Lovren was ok, a couple of errors early on which were most likely down to rustiness but he carried Gomez for the rest of the game. It is just a chance to sharpen up the fringe players, but it is worrying how far off their game they were. Gomez showed absolutely no awareness whatsoever of anything that was happening around him. He never looked. Ox was fairly decent, he kept the game ticking over and made a few good runs. Did give the ball away a bit much, but that was in the opposition third trying to make something happen. You have to expect that ball retention drops in those areas unless you just play keepball. Keita looked like a player coming back from injury and struggled like one. When you throw in basically a second team, you are going to get these kind of performances. The problem is if they perform like that when called upon in the first team. That used to happen with Rafa's reserves because they didn't play reserve games and so had no match sharpness at all. It was that which cost us as much as anything under Rafa.}

2.) 26 Sep 2019 12:26:38
This isn’t a player bashing here cuz we did win at the end of the day so can’t be all bad. But I agree on jo. He’s not getting back in ahead of matip playing like that last night. I really like the lad and hope he gets back to he norm game ASAP.
Lallana just doesn’t offer anything for me anymore and is just taking up space that a kid could do.

3.) 26 Sep 2019 12:52:14
No reserve game's Tris how come?

{Ed001's Note - they didn't in Rafa's time because they were not willing to play in the reserve system at that time. Rafa didn't like them to either as it was uncompetitive then. He felt they were better just training with the squad.}

4.) 26 Sep 2019 16:10:44
Lallana was asked to play a deep midfield role, and that is definitively not the role he is used to. I don't think it is fair, to judge someone playing in a position that obviously doesn't suit him. With Keita, Ox and Lallana in midfield, it was down to Lallana to play the deep role.

5.) 26 Sep 2019 17:35:00
Lallana is finished for me, I’ve said it since the start of the season.

{Ed025's Note - i,ve said it since he signed drogie..

Morning Ed, question for one of your future podcasts, how do you see the coming years shaping under KLopp and the rest of league? We seem to have a very good team assembled but can you foresee Any significant challenges? (Players leaving, a resurgent Man Utd etc? )

Just read the match review, good read though you are being incredibly generous saying Fabinho slipped lol.

Triangle

{Ed001's Note - he did slip. Watch his feet go from under him as he tries to stop. There was a lot of that happening in the game, most of it while the player was nowhere near anyone else.}
