I share the lack of optimism of many others given the state of our club.

I currently have two consolations.

1. I have another new guitar (I know that doesn't help anyone else)

2. There is still a chance that Lucas will be here longer than Rodgers.

Travellingmike

{Ed002's Note - I also bought a new guitar recently.}

1.) 02 Sep 2015 09:38:08
Me too. I got a Martin D15 Mahogany. It's so sweet.

Oh yeah and another consolation is Klopp still remains unemployed.

{Ed002's Note - Way back in the day I had a 1958 D28 but we don't have an acoustic guitar in the house now.

Klopp is talking to a couple of clubs now.}

2.) 02 Sep 2015 10:30:15
Just bought a Gibson J185. Love it, helps me play away the disappointment each weekend!

{Ed002's Note - The only Gibson I still own is a an ES335 that was restored by Rick Turner. Gibson build fantastic guitars. I have a modern Gretsch GT5422TDC which I have just recently picked up and that compliments my Rickenbacker 1993P.}

3.) 02 Sep 2015 10:50:31
That's a lot of guitars for a rodeo clown, Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - Kicking around somewhere there is a banjo, mandolin and strumstick as well. And there is a music room with my wife's stage piano, saxophone and flute, various Fender Champs and cables, a PA etc..}

4.) 02 Sep 2015 11:47:11
Wife ? Very interesting!

One step closer

{Ed002's Note - Being French, my other wives are not interested in music.}

5.) 02 Sep 2015 12:05:14
I know talking about Klopp is really tiring and annoying, but which clubs is he talking to? (I know it's not Liverpool :/ )

And if you're interested, I can swap my accoustic for one of your electrics :D

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with Liverpool - move on.}

6.) 02 Sep 2015 13:41:18
I get Knight guitars to do all my setups Ed002. Or grumpy and sons as they're known. They do all Pete Townsend from The Who's guitars setups.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know them.}

7.) 02 Sep 2015 19:27:40
Erm try posting on the strummed instrument page.

oh wait.

Keeping up with all that is going on, including the pre-season friendlies and who is available for sale, as well as who we have brought in, I've come to a tentative conclusion of what Rodgers is trying to do.

I believe he has developed a cunning plan that even Baldric wouold be ashamed of.

We all know he wants to be known as the most innovative attacking coach (He has zero knowledge of or interest in defending).

All of the clubs buying and selling makes a perverse sort of sense if Rodgers really wants to re-introduce 4-2-4 as the system of choice.

Henderson and Milner can run better than anyone else, Can is nearly as good and Lallana also covers a huge mileage. If two men run a lot, surely they can dominate a 3 man opposition midfield. It's not as if they needed to be in 3 places at once is it? . oh!

Cna anyone please come up with a better explanation and save us from a game plan that is almost perfect apart from

1) a deep back 4 with a high press and huge gaps
2) Losing the midfield battle 37 weeks out of 38
3) Having lots of clever attackers with no space to play in

Travellingmike

1.) 03 Aug 2015 14:22:52
1.Play high up the pitch, Ask your defenders to move forward and maintian a very little gap between the midfield and Defense.
2.Drop Skrtel as he would not suit such system.
3.Use th width and try to draw players out wide creating openings in the midle.

2.) 03 Aug 2015 15:14:42
But do you think that's Rodgers plan?

3.) 03 Aug 2015 16:23:44
Except playing skrtel that's his plan and so he bought players (full backs who are more offensive than defensive)

The reason he picked skrtel throughout last season
1. Lovren was terrible
2. Sakho is Left footed
3. There were no RCB apart from Toure and Skrtel.

4.) 03 Aug 2015 17:29:51
Loren and anyone else for that matter who plays with skrtel look terrible because simply they don't know what skrtel is going to do,he doesn't communicate and has a strange habit of taking a step forward as if he's stepping out to play offside,but then immediately taking three steps backwards leaving the rest of the defence flat footed.its quite easy to see,unless your Rogers that is.skrtel was at his best with Carrara alongside him constantly screaming at him what to do.

5.) 03 Aug 2015 17:57:57
Robbush

Disagree mate, Sakho did formed a decent partnership with Skrtel. Lovren was terrible individually. Some of the goals went through his legs. He was constantly bullied by pacy wide players ( palace , stoke ).

Y would BR ditch one of his fav signing ( Lovren ) for any other player?

6.) 03 Aug 2015 18:25:05
Robbush is spot on. BR want to play the high line YET is blind to the fact that his best CB (in his own world) is aweful and unsuitablle for such a system YET plays him there continuously, tells you all you need to know about how inept he is about defensive football.

I keep seeing people the club has had time to get a replacement for Coutinho. I thought we replaced him in attack with Salah and in Midfield with Ox. I'm fairly certain Klopp and the club knew Coutinho would be leaving when they decided to spend 70 mill on those two.

I'm all for buying more better players whenever we can but I don't see any reason to replace Coutinho (again? ) .

And when else would you expect players to go out apart from after a match?

Would you prefer them to get tanked up the night before a match like they used to 40 years ago. I seem to remember in the 60ß's Liverpool were known for being particularly rubbish on boxing day and after new year?

Do you expect players from rubbish teams to wait until summer to go out again because they keep losing?

Ed01 that there is no conclusion to be drawn from those goal stats is precisely the point I was trying to make.

If the art of defending was dead, there would be a significant change in goals scored since it died, unless you want to argue that the art of attacking died at the same time as well.

Stats can rarely be used to prove something did happen but often and easily be used to show there is no evidence in favour of a belief or assertion.

Travellingmike

{Ed001's Note - no you weren't, you were using the stats to prove your point that the art of defending isn't dead. And you are still wittering on about it as if the numbers are in anyway relevant. I have already pointed out a number of things that can skew the stats to make them useless, but you are still trying to argue they are relevant. Pointless conversation as you are showing the reading comprehension of a brick wall. I am done bothering to reply to you, you clearly are not willing to take any notice.}

I think you are all mistaken. If the art of defending was dead there would be a big increase in goals per game but there has been only an increase of around 4% since the start of the premier league.

Here are the goals per game and 5 year averages. You can see the goals dropped during the mid noughties and have increased again since.

Year Goals/ 5 yr
Game average
93-93 2.65
93-94 2.59
94-95 2.59
95-96 2.60
96-97 2.55 2.596
97-98 2.68 2.602
98-99 2.52 2.588
99-00 2.79 2.628
00-01 2.61 2.630
01-02 2.63 2.646
02-03 2.63 2.636
03-04 2.66 2.664
04-05 2.56 2.618
05-06 2.48 2.592
06-07 2.45 2.556
07-08 2.64 2.558
08-09 2.48 2.522
09-10 2.77 2.564
10-11 2.80 2.628
11-12 2.81 2.700
12-13 2.80 2.732
13-14 2.77 2.790
14-15 2.57 2.750
15-16 2.70 2.730
16-17 2.80 2.728
17-18 2.70 2.708.

Travellingmike

{Ed001's Note - there are a hundred reasons that could be which are nothing to do with defending, such as a lesser quality of attacker or more defensively set out teams, such as Pulis, Allardyce, Mourinho etc. Just putting a bunch of stats down like that without context is just annoying and pointless. There is no conclusion to be drawn from these numbers by anyone who bothers to think about it.}

Hendo isn't the only midfielder to be maligned with false accusations.

During his time at Bayern, Toni Kroos was known as "Sideways Toni".

The lack of appreciation was one of the reasons he moved on.

I want Leipzig and otherwise as easy as possible. We can play the best teams later in the knockout stages.

If we get Leipzig, there will be a ticket (for the away leg) waiting for me in the in the office in Schkopau.
