Didn't watch the game just the highlights do my opinion my be skewed. We seemed to have a lot of defensive errors, against better opposition we would of been 3.1 down, if not more.

Did the full game seem different. Looking at those highlights, man city would destroy us.

Please tell me this isn't the case. 1

230 kickoff, international break etc, all poor man's excuses.

is this geezer for real or has he been drinking?
this must be a wind up right?

2.) 01 Apr 2018 18:53:14
Can't be amazing all the time. Played dodgy got 3 massive points. sign of a good team.

3.) 01 Apr 2018 19:06:16
So junior makes it sound we were amazing and Ben says we was dodgy, again I see no answer to my question?

4.) 01 Apr 2018 19:23:03
we played crap and won even klopp called it a dirty 3pts. Hope that helps.

5.) 01 Apr 2018 19:26:44
you yourself admit you didn't watch the game so I will leave your comments there
always best in life mate to first examine or watch something fully where you can ascertain all the fact before commenting and leaving yourself open to ridicule.

6.) 01 Apr 2018 19:38:47
Junior please read my entire post, not just bits and pieces.

Thank you kingkenny7 I was thinking this the case. Scrappy but a win none the less.

I fear though if it was a more competent side (like man city) we'd be destroyed. Just glad it was Benteke it fell too.

7.) 01 Apr 2018 19:50:42
Toxeth L8 when Man City played Crystal Palace on the 31st of December 2017 what was the score please?
I look forward to you reply.

8.) 01 Apr 2018 19:53:53
my pleasure mate, the worrying thing from my pov is that the derby match has a early kick off we really need to sort this out. Your last paragraph is spot on.

9.) 01 Apr 2018 20:06:44
I guess if you looked just at the Palace game you could be worried about the city game BUT. there are other games we have played recently that could make you think City will be destroyed. The game against city for example. We were away on Saturday remember, in the capitol. Tough game that we won. Someone said it, Ben elf I think, we were crap and came away with 3 points, sign of a good team.

10.) 01 Apr 2018 20:10:35
I Google it, 0-0 it appears. So where now from here?

I'm still not understanding your platform, but you're persistent so you must have a good one that I'm missing.

In case you misunderstood mine. I believe Liverpool should be blowing teams like palace away. If it wasn't for some good saves by Karius, and Benteke missing 2 sitters we would of lost that game. Our defence was liable for both.

Again this is what I gleaned from watching the highlights, that's why I asked if the whole game showed something different.

Sorry if I was mistaken for attacking our club. Im just a little concerned, because I thought we were getting passed these little errors in defence, or at least improving on them. The beginning of the season was a nightmare for it.

11.) 01 Apr 2018 20:17:23
I've been really worried about the city tie but ox's comments have given me hope. City like to play out from the back (well most of us do but they always do) and aoc said that plays right into Liverpool's hands. I think pep will change this and try something different and I think this will be their downfall. I'll say this though, if Liverpool get past city I think we'll win it. I honestly do.

12.) 01 Apr 2018 20:25:59
I thought your post was pretty clear and fair toxteth L8 can’t see what the fuss is about. And yes, it wasn’t a polished performance, WAY to many errors and a few players just not good enough for Liverpool. But a HUGE 3 points and sometimes it’s nice to win that way.

13.) 01 Apr 2018 20:02:33
Toxteth L8- We we’re crap pal, lucky to get the win and a performance like that will see us soundly beaten by City, although I’d be amazed if we are that poor against them.

14.) 01 Apr 2018 20:42:29
I cannot see how a match against palace is a yardstick to measure a game coming up against Man City
who themselves only drew against that same side that we managed to beat luckily or not
We imo should be applauding the boys for showing some guts to get the result
We played poorly and won Man U done it all the time when they won titles.

15.) 01 Apr 2018 21:20:22
City are cantering away with a league title and already have a cup in their cabinet this season. I very much doubt they will change the way they play just to face us over 2 games. We have proven we can beat City this season and them us. We will need another 2 massive performances from all 11 on the pitch if we are to go through. City will be favourites but I kind of like the underdog status. It takes the pressure off us.

16.) 01 Apr 2018 21:52:19
Toxteth - it was an average performance eith many individuals seemingly out of sync of each other. Excellent result given that. In the end and at this time of year the patterns you looked for don't matter. The 3 pts is all!

17.) 01 Apr 2018 22:42:29
Junior I get what you're saying, playing the way we did won't affect the next game.

I just watched the highlights and thought we looked poor. Didn't know if that was the highlight reel or not that's why I was asking.

Again we never put on our A game against teams like palace, where as we will against city.

My worry was, if we give man city chances like we did palace they'd finish it. I can't see Augero, Sane etc miss those chances we gave to Palace. We've done well with the defense this half of the season. The palace game was reminiscent of earlier in the season. The stray balls at the back were horrendous.

Anyways fellas, we can beat city. Heck we can beat any of the remaining teams in the Champions League. I echo Salah's statement, if we get through city, I believe we'll win it.

Eds, what's a typical market pool for English sides in the Champions League?

Toxteth L8

{Ed001's Note - eh?}

1.) 07 Mar 2018 04:31:42
Agree with Ed on this one!

{Ed001's Note - that was not the kind of thing you want to read when you first open your eyes in the morning! I have been awake 2 hours and still can't make sense of it.}

2.) 07 Mar 2018 06:47:14
This is a prize money question. The market pool is the amount of money put aside for teams of individual countries based on how much that country pays for CL television rights.

It gets split between teams of that country based on a number of criteria but, essentially, the team that gets furthest gets the most. As for the exact amount it's impossible to work out but last season English clubs got between 26 and 49 million euros each.

{Ed001's Note - why do people care? It is not going to make any difference to them.}

3.) 07 Mar 2018 07:19:22
Round, filled with water and about £29.99 from
Argos.?! I’m totally lost with this one.

4.) 07 Mar 2018 08:02:01
I feel like he's asking about betting odds but that's a pretty wild guess.

5.) 07 Mar 2018 08:45:27
Unfortunately, I disagree with Ed01 on this.

6.) 07 Mar 2018 09:24:23
57.3% (to one decimal place) 👍.

7.) 07 Mar 2018 09:48:17
I believe the answer to be over priced not so great players who will be off like a shot it the top Spanish sides come calling.
Of course I could and probably am wrong.

8.) 07 Mar 2018 10:14:34
To be fair ed it's just one of them things that some people wonder about. I looked into this a couple of years ago because I was interested how UEFA divvied out prize money, not because it's important, just because I was curious.

Ed002, what's the length of typical payments on buying a player? Not so much interested in numbers, but if both teams agree to a transfer, how frequent and long are payments made? Once a month? A season? I know this changes contract to contract, but is there an average?

Is it similar to buying a house or repaying a loan? I. e. down payment then agreeing to payments and length.

Toxteth L8

{Ed002's Note - If you are buying from England it would be a shorter period - from abroad there is no average but perhaps at the higher end two payments per year over three years. In England it was changed because Portsmouth sold Johnson to Liverpool but still owed Cjelsea for the player, Liverpool made their payments but Portsmouth failed to pass them on to Chelsea - it ended with the FA stepping in and Liverpool paid what Chelsea were owed directly and Portsmouth could not take the money for what was then a failing business. In the case of Suarez, Barcelona made payments in January and July for each of three years totalling the £64.98M paid for the player.}

Broke the golden rule and revealed a figure there ed haha. Good question and really interesting read. Thanks guys. I love reading these behind the scenes snippets, one of the great things about this site.

2.) 27 Feb 2018 00:37:55
Seriously, how good is Ed002 and the detailed information he supplies us with. We're very fortunate to have a site filled with such great eds and all the info they pass on. Even the the toffee Ed25 is great to have around.

3.) 27 Feb 2018 01:05:04
Good question, and thorough response as always. Agree with NYR, this site is as much a base for knowledge as it is for banter and rumours. Nothing else like it.

4.) 28 Feb 2018 02:40:54
Ed002,never got a chance to say than you, so thank you! Insightful as always.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

For sure happy we win. Although it pisses, me off when we lose to teams we should beat. Most of the times is because the players think all they have to do is show up to the game and don't try.

I get it, easier to psyche yourself up against the likes of Man City, and champions League.

But the good teams should never disrespect the opposition, whether it's Real Madrid, or Everton (lol)
