There's something about our transfer policy I don't understand.

If we can't bring in a player who is the best available at the position, for instance Mendy, because of the wage demands, then why do we say to a player who's wages we can afford, say Sessegnon, that you will be playing in the Under-23's?

This makes little sense.

If you can't compete for the most wanted players, the finished article, then surely you have to take a chance with youngsters?

With this "neither here nor there" approach, will we not inevitably end up fielding teams composed of expendables and makeshifts (Klavan, Milner, etc)?

Liverpool's transfer approach has been a disastrous mess over the last couple of decades. I'm surprised you thought anything was going to change now. As long as we sign some decent players that improve our team, I won't be complaining too much though. At least the targets are better than the dross we have brought in the past few seasons.
Counting on Klopp to get it right this time.

2.) 03 Jun 2017 07:49:41
I'm wth you on that Buzzer.

Get it wrong and we'll fall behind big time, Chelsea, Mancs and Spurs will only get stronger.

Whilst the defence is a mess and needs sorting, I really hope we sign a creative/ direct player that can help un-pick teams that put 11 men behind the ball when they visit Anfield. Especially with Mané at the AFCON in Jan.

3.) 03 Jun 2017 08:11:01
Jesus christ why is everyone so negative? We are spending decent money on very good players that will improve our starting 11 and squad depth yet people are still not happy. let's wait and see who we end up with, back Klopp and the club.

Need to fix that defence.

With Basle, that is 8 goals shipped in our last three meaningful games.

We have bought so many defenders who had or appear to have no real future at the club - Coates, Llori, Sakho, Moreno, etc.

We never got to grips with the defence in the Rodgers era. And things have not changed yet.

The very first things really effective coaches seem to do is fix goalkeeping and defensive weaknesses. Guardiola at City, Conte at Chelsea, for example.

Fair point tiger but I don't think pep has fixed city by bringing stones in! He's a long way away from being a great defender.

2.) 21 Aug 2016 12:48:40
It's the one area where I feel Klopp has disappointed. Irrespective of individual errors, our defensive organisation remains poor.

The other point is that we don't appear to be able to break down well organised defensive teams, like Burnley yesterday.

Solid performance by the Reds at Wembley.

Mane will be very important for us. Great to see him in good form.

I wouldn't read too much into the result.

Barcelona are known for demanding enormous appearance fees, and not bothering to play more than half hour/ 45 minutes. It is part of the their preseason MO, and their commercial strategy.

Tigerxl15

1.) 07 Aug 2016 09:21:28
Not sure if its an advisable commercial strategy to have your pants pulled down in front of the televised world. There will certainly be less Mascherano shirts sold in the next week.

2.) 07 Aug 2016 09:30:00
They've only been at preseason a fraction of the time we have, think it's their second game and our second last.

3.) 07 Aug 2016 10:07:32
Didn't the play Celtic and Leicester last week fencey?

Klopp has said he wants players who want to be at Liverpool.

Rightly so.

If someone offers 50 million for Coutinho I would bite their hand off. And Goetze can do whatever he wants also. I couldn't care less. As Ed002 has suggested, he seems to be trouble.

Leicester have shown us what it takes to win the title. No sure Coutinho or Goetze have those attributes.

On that note, a salute to Daniel Agger. Oozed class on the field, and loved the club. YNWA.

Agree about Coutinho and Gotze.
This lad Zielinski who we're linked with appears to have the attitude Klopp wants. Looks like he really wants to join us. if reports are to be believed.
Not a bad player either.

2.) 10 Jun 2016 08:35:51
He's worth more than 50 mil mate.

3.) 10 Jun 2016 09:36:34
If sterling worth 50mil, coutinho is min 60 mil player.

Interesting news about Goetze, if true.

Ancelloti was appointed coach what, about six months ago and it is only now that Goetze suddenly Goetze learns that he is in Ancelloti's plans? At the same time that he fires his management company?

Far be it for me to suggest someone has dangled a fat January Bosman contract in front of him . . .

I heard he wanted to watch us play in the Europa League final to make a final decsion on joining but couldn't see the TV.

Far be it for me to suggest someone dangled a fat Bosnian in front of him.

Friggin Bosnians!

Only 3 other clubs in Europe could afford his wages. We are not one of them.

We had our chance in 2003. Rick Parry vetoed it. Why? Because his wage demand was higher than what we were paying Florent Sinama-Pongolle at the time.

Good one, Rick.

It's great to have a fantastic attack.

But it does not make up for a dodgy defence. Once you let in a soft goal, the whole team gets nervy. Then you let in another - and after that it may not matter how many you score. See Bournemouth last season for reference.

LFC is playing Russian roulette fielding some of the players that we did at the back yesterday. Luckily we played a team that was overawed by the occasion. That won't be the case in the group stages.

"Brilliant so with 7 days to go in the window we will be making statements regarding forthecoming transfers. "

Yes - it sounds odd when you put it like that.

But not so odd if you combine with Macca saying Keita is house hunting, and that VVD will likely come.

Apparently neither are training with their teammates, so something is up.

Clubs issue statements all the time. It's called messaging and communications. A very important part of how modern organizations work.

Big vvd just ignore the likes of Jayden1234 or whatever it is.

FSG are responsible for the current situation, and Klopp should walk? They are running the summer transfer business from Boston Harbour, are they? Then what are the people at the club in Liverpool doing?

They have had all summer to fix the defense, and find a defensive midfielder. Nothing.

We ship goals like we get points for doing it. This was a problem from before Klopp took over. Yet our defensive recruitment in the last 2 years amounts to Klavan, Matip, and Robertson. Who made these decisions? Henry? Werner? Linda?

And naturally FSG are going to look into selling Coutinho. He and the whole Barcelona armada have made the situation almost untenable.

If the OP is right, Klopp got ahead of himself, and screwed up. He and FSG need to get on the same page ASAP.

I think this whole thing could have been amicable (i. e. give us one more season), but the Neymar departure has left Barcelona humiliated and desperate, and now they will do anything to force the Coutinho transfer.

2 weeks to find a replacement for Coutinho? Who? At what price?

A bad situation all round.

Sturridge needs to reinvent himself.

Either into someone like Sheringham, or someone like Fowler.

Neither had great pace. It didn't matter. Like them, Sturridge can pass, and he can finish.

We have the easiest run-in compared to our rivals. And with everyone back. No excuses now.

I don't see the hate.

I see a player who is obviously struggling, and well off the pace.
In fact, he appears to be regressing, and making more and more mistakes each game.

I see a player who has not realized the potential he showed a few years ago, at Bayern.

Maybe he will come good, maybe not. None of us can predict the future. All I know is that right now, he is not at the level we need.

If it is due to lack of fitness, why is he starting?

Yes - Liverpool used to make great players. They also used to be ruthless with players who weren't good enough. Don't forget that part.

Chelsea will be very, very difficult to beat this season. Potential champions.

LFC? Too many changes to make too many judgements about the LFC team performance. Many of them looked like they had never played together before.

Obviously we lacked a cutting edge in final third. Two thirds of the possession and managed three shots on goal. Need Sturridge fit this season to have a shot (unless we buy another striker)

Karius could have come out for the corner. Otherwise looks comfortable in his position.

Wisdom looks clearly out of his depth.
