Ed02 Just back from hols in SF and the Bay Area, what a fantastic place! I didn’t get to Mikes Grill as you recommend but got to eat and drink and some other fantastic places. Hoping to go back next year so will hopefully get to check it out then. Thanks for the tip anyway.

Theredwolf

{Ed002's Note - My home town going way back amn. Glad you enjoyed it - we'll be back in Spring.}

1.) 28 Sep 2018 05:52:57
Welcome back mate!

2.) 28 Sep 2018 08:13:10
San Francisco?! Wow.

3.) 28 Sep 2018 03:26:42
Ed2, SF proper hometown or outside of? I spent a few years just north of Ben Lomond on Hwy 9. Lived amongst the redwoods. Miss it terribly tbh.

{Ed002's Note - I was born in Bellevue, WA (near Seattle) but lived in the Bay Area from the age of 4 for 20 years. As a child in San Mateo and San Francisco then I went to college in Berkeley. I had a friend who lived in Scotts Valley which is near Ben Lomand.}

4.) 28 Sep 2018 04:47:02
I live in SF now, moves here 5 months ago. Mikes Grill, will have to check it out!

{Ed002's Note - John's Grill on Ellis Street. It is the restaurant from The Maltese Falcon.}

5.) 28 Sep 2018 08:32:28
Thanks guys, great place to have as your home town Ed02 have a great time when you go back.

{Ed002's Note - I have not been back for a while but am normally there every few months.}

6.) 28 Sep 2018 13:49:22
Ed01, I did not know you were a yank. You don't sound like one. Nice college dude, impressed.

{Ed002's Note - I am not a "yank" - perhaps you should look that up.}

7.) 28 Sep 2018 14:49:29
Berkeley hey? Check you out ed, knew you were a bright button.

8.) 28 Sep 2018 18:08:19
We’re simple people in the UK ed, all Americans are yanks to us not just the traditional unionists. Would you not be a yank though with where you grew up? My civil war knowledge is not great though.

{Ed002's Note - The Civil War was fought on the Eastern side of the United States NYR, not at all in the much nicer West. The term "yank" or more specifically "Yankee" is a term used by the Southerners to describe the Unionists, or more specifically those from New England (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire etc.). I would just be a plain Californian - although I have lived the vast majority of my life away from the United States.}

9.) 28 Sep 2018 18:58:16
Ed002,

Are you a dead head? I got the Jerry reference the other day, and was proud to say that the first live show I ever saw was the Grateful Dead in Pittsburgh in the Summer of 1995.One of Jerry Garcia last show. That was a life experience. Wish you well
Cheers
Matt in FL.

{Ed002's Note - I am indeed a Dead Head and I think I first saw the band at the Carousel Ballroom (Filmore West) in March 1971. I last saw them was in Seattle in June 1994 the day after the Nicole Brown Simpson murder. I did see Dead & Co in Mountain View last summer and we kept going to the NYE shows until 4 or 5 years ago, but my real fondness is for Country Joe and The Fish.}

10.) 28 Sep 2018 21:19:06
I bow to your superior knowledge of the civil war ed. I thought California and some of the western states sent solidiers to fight alongside the unionists so would also be Yanks too.

{Ed002's Note - There were soldiers from all over but the Yanks are from the North East.}

11.) 28 Sep 2018 21:42:20
Let me know when your back in town ED02, I’ll happily buy you a wine/ beer.

{Ed002's Note - I will do.}

12.) 29 Sep 2018 01:42:38
I stayed in a hostel on Ellis street about 13 years ago where Ellis meets Larkin street. Great hostel but one hell of a sketchy area, not sure if it has changed since but i have memories, some fond and some not so! Love San Fran as a whole though.

{Ed002's Note - That is the Tenderloin heading up close to Polk Gulch. They are not good areas I am afraid. Please never refer to it as "San Fran" or "Frisco" - locals don't like it. San Francisco or The City.}

I playin a band and do quite a few charity gigs here and there. Luckily some of those are local related including things that the king and rush have been involved in amongst others. The king is one of the most humble men I have ever met and had time foreveryone and rush was of a similar like. I always think rush is bypassed in a way in terms of being a great player but his contribution off the field is less published. I have always found him ago be a lovely bloke. One of the lads in the band is a blue and he had some great stories about Radcliffe and Southall. Have any of the Ed’s had anything to do with him or other posters?

Theredwolf

{Ed001's Note - Rush? No, only met him once and he was being buried under an avalanche of reporters so could barely get near him. He does get a bit forgotten, because he was around when Dalglish was and so was overshadowed to a large degree. He never lived down Dalglish's joke about him thinking Italy was like a different country.}

1.) 08 Sep 2018 09:21:34
A few years ago I brought my 13 year old son home from oz and we visited melwood. Rushy stops to sign a few autographs and my lad says, in front of him, "who's that? " I nearly died. Then I felt ashamed that I'd never educated him on the greatness of Ian rush. My lad now plays a classic fox in the box number nine role for his state team. I'm proud to credit it to the many hours of rush/ dalglish clips I made him sit through.

2.) 09 Sep 2018 10:22:42
I play in a band too but have only met Rush once after a game against Newcastle in 1986.

There was a tread a while back about good books about Liverpool. Just finished Men in White Suits about a few of the 90’s players. Well worth a read if anyone’s interested.

Theredwolf, you can read Bring The Noise. It is written by Ralph Honigstein about Jurgen Klopp and what makes him tick, how he started his coaching career and his tenure at LFC so far. I saw an interview from Honigstien and it was quite revealing with the snippets of his book.

2.) 25 Nov 2017 12:05:46
Cheers BRover I’ll give it a go.

Could you provide us with a recommended music playlist Ed then? I enjoyed the obscure music on the Sharkopod and sorry that yo7 no longer want to get involved with transfer info as your knowledge was one of the reasons that makes this site so good. Anyway take it easy and hope you’re well.

Theredwolf

{Ed002's Note - I will give you a few appropriate song for the day as you ask. As there is a Royal wedding today, that will see the bond between the English and German nations strengthen, you will no doubt by on tenderhooks until you get to see Ms Merkel's wonderful dress. Apparently, although marrying a prince, she will not be called Princess Angela. So "tenderhooks" makes me think of The Barbarians' "Moulty", the story of their one handed drummer, and that would be a good starting point. Thinking of young Prince Hal's bride to be, perhaps The Lollipop Shoppe (who were managed by an old buddy of mine) playing "You Must Be a Witch" could keep the tempo up as you swoon at the beauty of Ms Merkel on her wedding day. If you follow the English tradition of consuming ale all the way through the wedding, and then through the FA cup final, by the end of the day you will no doubt be hearing "Voices Green and Purple", as recorded by The Bees.}

Cheers ed. Yes can’t be fair if teams get better players due to contacts with large clubs etc. Wonder as well if more younger players would break through at clubs if reserve teams were stronger all around. It may help to keep youngsters grounded too.

Do you think limiting the amount of players teams can loan out would improve reserve level football and help youngsters develop more over a period of time rather than loan deals? Just interested as I’m not convinced that the loan system currently is very successful.

Theredwolf

{Ed001's Note - personally I would prefer to cancel the loan system altogether as it is affecting lower leagues by tipping the balance of power towards teams that just happen to have a mate in a big club etc.}
