a couple of weeks ago I voted for Lovren as player of the month. A lot of people did as he was named player of the month. Ed01 even put a link up here so people could vote. It was brilliant to see the way we backed the big man when he was going through it. I also think it has done some good on the pitch too. I think dejan is trying to repay our faith in him. Fair play to him and fair play to everyone who voted and proved our fans have REAL heart. Nice one ed for making it easier to vote.

hi. Recently I keep hearing the term "inside forwards" could someone explain the position to me please as I have never heard of it? thanks.

Superred82

{Ed025's Note - when i was younger all teams played with inside forwards superred, it was part of a very attacking system where 5 played up front, the inside forwards played between the winger and centre forward though slightly behind, they would probably be seen as attacking midfielders these days mate..

1.) 09 Nov 2017 17:23:46
basically right and left sided attacking midfielders.

2.) 09 Nov 2017 17:23:46
basically right and left sided attacking midfielders.

3.) 09 Nov 2017 17:53:29
But behind the centre forward, or striker .

4.) 09 Nov 2017 17:19:26
thank you ed025.

{Ed025's Note - no problem mate..

5.) 09 Nov 2017 19:04:57
The no. 10 in that era, played the support striker/ playmaker position just like Pele played behind Tostao (the true CF in that 1970 WC team) or KK played behind Rush or Baggio played behind Casiraghi or Toto Schilacci. Brilliant times, Ed01.

6.) 10 Nov 2017 02:19:01
I thought the closest we had to inside forwards nowadays was the inverted winger?

7.) 10 Nov 2017 06:19:36
Lorenzo Insigne is an inside wide forward!

Hi guys, Morning. Question for the Eds or anyone else who has an opinion.

Looking at the last three games, they weren't the highest quality teams but not bad, do you think the boys showed enough that we have turned a corner and the team has started clicking? I mean, we did what was expected imo. ok west ham away isn't that easy. I'm really hoping we have. I see a lot of positives atm. Obviously salah is scoring for fun, firmino playing brilliantly, the Ox coming to life and scoring a couple in the last fortnight. Klavan has been pretty solid since he came in, Moreno playing much better. All this without couts (Who I feel may never play for Liverpool again) and Lallana. (I hope i'm wrong about PC

So back to the question. Have Liverpool turned a corner and started clicking or are we going to seriously struggle when facing teams with any real class. We are right back in the UCL mix. not far from the fourth spot and not impossible to catch the leaders.

I'll sit on the fence and say a definite maybe.

The performances have been good, we've started scoring as many goals as our performance warrants but there's still a few niggles.

West Ham had two or three good scoring opportunities which, had they taken them, could have changed the course of the game.

Basically progress has been made but there's more work to do.

2.) 08 Nov 2017 08:31:44
yeah, i'll go with that Putney. I am glad that klopp has shown alternative tactics, when people were accusing him of being a one trick pony. I like the look of us with three CBs, I dunno, it just feels safer seeing joe Gomes back there with matip and co. We have the PERFECT wing backs for that too.

We done arsenal with ease. We need another big win. Chelsea or Seville. I have said this about every game I think but those two games are season definers, win them and we are flying, lose them and we are in deep trouble.

Can I just say how good it was to see Mane fit. what a boost he gives us. Id rather have Mane on the left wing than Coutinio.

3.) 08 Nov 2017 08:33:42
You Saw how easily WH produced chances out of nothing, and how much problems we had defending Them. Take into account that they weren't organized and at the moment WH are on course for relegation. We haven't turned a corner, the opposition has just been poor.

4.) 08 Nov 2017 08:36:18
I always maintained there was no worries anyway. We had an insane fixture list. If you look at the table we are level on points with Arsenal and Chelsea who have both had slightly easier fixtures than us, and still managed to lose more games. We are now right on United's heels as well and they now have to play all the top half teams against whom, they can at best hope for draws and a couple of 1-0 wins under Jose.

I will put my head on the block and say we'll be in the top 4 by Christmas and win our CL group. City and Spurs are the only teams in the league who are better than us. I reckon we'll do both of them at Anfield anyway. Aside from that, i fear nobody though.

Klopp is showing signs of adapting and the pace of Salah, Mane and Chambo on the pitch together was frightening. I'm not sure if anyone noticed for Salah's first goal, but Chambo sprinted about 90 yards (went past 3 West Ham players) and at the last minute he ran diagonally across the box to pull the last defender away from Salah. He literally bust his gut to get there and then made a completely unselfish run at the end of it so Salah could score. Without touching the ball he was crucial to the goal.

With us having players who can break like that and be so clinical at the end of it in terms of decision making, we now have a weapon we can use against the big teams. We can sit in and then hit them ferociously on the counter. Couple that with the dominance we've shown against lesser teams this season and we could very easily extend our current run to 10-15 games unbeaten. Aside from Chelsea we now play the likes of Stoke, Bournemouth, Swansea, West Brom, Everton and Brighton. We are good enough to win all 6 of those games. The lads have to stay focused and not get complacent of course, but i can definitely see us climbing the table in the next 2 months though.

5.) 08 Nov 2017 11:23:43
Redfuzz, this West ham just won 3-2 vs Spurs prior to us. They are no slouch.

6.) 08 Nov 2017 08:58:38
RedFuzz, you talk as though we should not allow opposition teams to even get shots away!

No matter how good you are defensively, you cannot protect your goal all game every game. A slip, and slight positional error, a piece of quality from the opposition etc. can lead to a chance. Even with United playing 6-3-1 they still rely on De Gea three or four times a game!

There is a reason why all teams play with Goal keepers. West Ham had one clear cut chance and they took it. They had about 3 half chances which were either saved or missed. We had about 10 other chances aside from the 4 we scored. The reality is, not every chance goes in. If you say "West Ham had enough chances to score 4" you also have to say that "Liverpool had enough chances to score 14".

It's a nonsense argument. You can't completely stop all teams from getting any chances. You can only reduce the chances and put a decent keeper in the goal to stop most of the chances you do give away. You're in a dream world if you're expecting us to dispatch all comers without conceding a shot.

7.) 08 Nov 2017 13:02:15
I think its too early to judge but there has been positive signs and if we can get on a run for the 1st time this season, we could climb quickly with things as tight as they are. 4 points off second after a very inconsistent start and hardly had Couts or Mane and Lallana to return. Who knows the possibilities from here?

8.) 08 Nov 2017 18:14:49
I agree with you completely, MK. I will agree with Putney that progress has been made BUT a lot more needs to be done and I'm sure Klopp knows that and the good thing is, he takes nothing for granted cos he knows how things can change with one defensive mistake or one chance missed. Let's just keep our heads down and keep chopping wood and surely, things will continue to click for us.

I knew the ox would come good. In his last few performances he has shown, imo, why Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool were so keen to sign him. I think he has shown what we expected and more. The pace and the power. But his inter-play has been great too and his delivery and supply looks very promising also. People have a bit of a downer on English players I think, they don't seem as glamourous. Ox was always going to be an exciting signing, I don't get why everyone didn't realise straight away. You could say he has played against lesser opposition but these teams are still at a high level. Huddersfield are mid table in an elite European league and Maribor are in the champions league so its not like he has only performed against dumplings. Klopp has man managed well imo, he has held the ox back a little but it has made him play with a desire to impress and with added passion. So far so good concerning AOC. Now he has to perform in bigger games.

Superred82

1.) 02 Nov 2017 05:53:09
I think the Ox has had a decent start to his LFC career. I think it's only 2 starts though and the rest from the bench. When Mane regains fitness he will likely go back to the bench though for the majority of games.

2.) 02 Nov 2017 07:59:09
I think it was just 40 million on yet another attacker and for what seems a bench player for the foreseeable future.

Mane firmino salah
Coutinho
Hendo can

Keita next year.

At the time we needed a cb. It wasn't nothing against ox but was there not a 30/ 40 million cb we could of got in the last few days of the window.

3.) 02 Nov 2017 08:13:51
Can and Coutinho won't be here next year so maybe Ox will get more game time then.

4.) 02 Nov 2017 10:11:52
Top, spending on Ox did not prevent us from getting a CB as money was NEVER the issue. You are aware that you can want a good CB and also want to add depth to the squad in the wide areas as both were needed. You can walk and chew gum at the same time. We did not get a CB cos Klopp did not find a suitable one apart from VVD. You may disagree with that BUT that is the fact. This was not a case of either we get Ox or VVD or another CB. It was us trying to get both, a CB and Ox.

5.) 02 Nov 2017 11:54:07
i think we actually spent much more money than people realize. The transfer fee on Naby Keita has already been registered with eufa. A little sexy number of 63 million £.

6.) 02 Nov 2017 12:43:21
Loris you do also realise we never actually put a single bid in for VVD.

{Ed001's Note - that was not down to money.}

I know it's not Liverpool related (or maybe slightly, featuring an ex player) but I thought troy deany's actions on Saturday were well out of order. His behaviour was barbaric and I think he should be dealt with severely. The way he grabbed Joe Allen was animalistic and he looked like a psychopath. If you did that in any other place of work you could easily end up in gaol. I liked his comments last weekend about being the equaliser but he ain't the only player with a bit of fire. Fair play to little Joe for standing up to him. Can't believe he stayed on the pitch. If he had flicked him in the face he would have been red carded but grab him by his face, squeeze and then pick him up by his face and he stayed on the field. I think it showed a guy with a real temper. It's all very well calling yourself a hard nut on motd but he is going to be targeted by every defencive player from Tyne side to Bournemouth. Grabbing someone like troy did isn't far from chinning someone and I think his temper is going to be well tested this season.

What is everyone's view of it I'd be interestedto see if others thought it as serious as I did.

Superred82

1.) 30 Oct 2017 05:24:57
It was violent conduct and a red card, ref probably didn't get a good enough look at it. You need players with fire in their belly but it is a double-edged sword - as you know that fire can sometimes be directed in the wrong way. It was poor from Deeney but seen plenty of other players do equally stupid things, he'll likely get a retrosepctive ban and that will be that.

2.) 30 Oct 2017 08:25:12
Should be band for 6 months or more. Can the fa not take retrospective punishment? I hope so then maybe the thugs in the game might play football and leave the handbags at 50 paces out of the game.

seeing vvd not playing for saints gives me hope that he is being looked after to make sure the deal doesn't fall through. Spending 60 mil on a cb is going to be a bit of a waste if we don't sort our keeper out. migs might point at a fair number of clean sheets but that is only because the team are so good we don't give the opposition a chance on goal. migs hasn't found the form of last year, ivelost faith completely.

Can started the season pretty well. scored early, a couple of beauties but he did seem to go missing eh, not sure if that was coz of the injury though.

I'll tell you, for 220.000 per week, if he doesn't hit the ground running the juve fans will get restless pretty quick. if he starts putting in lazy performances, it won't be tolerated. he has obviously grabbed the 220.000 pretty quick but it could be his undoing. I doubt it, he will probably do really well in seria a.

All in all he has been a fairly decent player for us for a number of years. he has certainly done more than score 1 over head kick and for that I will wish him good luck.

I still don't understand why we didn't sell him last summer though.

not seen much of him either but he does look a sharp lively player. if he plays for that Melbourne club then city will have first dibs on him won't they?

Seems to have a bit of aaron ramsey about him but plays on the wing too, could be worth a punt.
